View 1 RepliesI have had Windows 10 installed for about 4 months now and things have been going decent. A couple of days ago my system received a Windows 10 update that took about 2 hours and looked like it was installing Windows all over again (but it wasn't) and once this happened I couldn't find the Microsoft Edge application and the start button would not work at all. After doing a system restore to a date prior to the update things are back to "normal" except for this one problem.Currently my start menu does not show any Recently Used or Favorite Apps in it as shown below. If I select the All apps button it also shows nothing:
I made sure that all of the settings in order to see recently used apps and all my apps are correct as below are my settings:I have tried a couple of solutions that handled Cortana not searching for programs or "some" apps were missing from all apps but I have yet to find a solution to when absolutely no apps are showing in the start menu. I know the applications still exist on my machine as I use Firefox and Microsoft Word and Outlook plus many more apps but they aren't showing up at all. I am also under a local account instead of my Microsoft account and both have this problem.
I have a problem with a video driver that wants to be installed, but when it's installed the system becomes unstable (it can hang or automatically restart). This is a long standing problem on certain ASUS notebooks with certain NVIDIA display adapters. The driver is for the NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT display adapter on an ASUS M70Vn with a 64-bit architecture. I am currently using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, which provides a stable environment and works good enough for my purposes.
How can I prevent the NVIDIA driver from being installed with the Windows updates? In earlier versions of Windows (for example, Windows 7), you could select which updates to install by putting a checkmark in front of the updates you wanted installed. Not so with Windows 10. All you get is a list of updates that are available and a click-box that says "Install now". I'm running Windows 10 version 1511 (OS Build 10586.0).
I am trying to get the little Reserve Windows 10 icon to show up in the taskbar of the new laptop I purchased. After some hunting around, I saw that one of the updates which must be installed is KB2976978. However, it is not being listed on Windows Update, and is not in my list of installed updates either.
View 1 RepliesRandom apps are not showing up in the "All Apps" section of the Start Menu after installing a clean version of Windows 10 (not an upgrade), and re-installing all my favorite software, In other words, finding a launcher to countless programs now means visiting "C:/Program Files/WhateverRandomSoftware/launcher.exe." Well, that;'s no fun.

All says "Waiting for install". After I do install, the same updates are listed next time I run Windows update.
I have run the Microsoft Office Cleanup tool, that did not solve the problem.
I have run Avast Register Cleanup, that also did not solve the problem.
Since a recent Windows 10 update was automatically installed last week I can't open any exe files.I get the following error "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00000e5). Click OK to close the application."

View 1 RepliesI have had this issue for a while, any way to restore these. The Cortana Live Tile and Cortana entry in the All Apps section are both missing so I cannot re-add the Live Tile back.
View 3 RepliesI recently update my Windows 8.1 to win10, but when i finished installing windows 10, my internal WiFi wasn't working (the wifi icon has an red X). at first i try enable it with the command prob (netsh interface) and it told me that the "wifi "doesn't existe. i reinstalled it back to windows 8.1 and the wifi rework again! days later i retry windows 10 and i get the same problem again.i have an Acer Aspire 7741, with an atheros AR9271wireless Network adapter.
View 1 RepliesWhen I made the decision to move to Win10 I also decided to get a new SSD. So I had Win8 on my HDD and I've been trying to get Win10 on the SSD. I tried cloning the drive however it does not look right and it won’t boot to the cloned drive.
I also tried installing Win8 on the SSD but it said the drive wasn't formatted correctly.

when I reset my PC due to a pop up war from IE running in the background, My PC seems to be running better but I am missing preinstalled apps. Facebook, twitter is not there and when I went to windows store the message is ..
You own this product it can be installed on this device
Shows the facebook icon and under it has the the file size and it just continues to say pending
So , I tiried the " fix " in powershell but some of the commands used do not exist it says. I even went to windows club to find out and their commands did not work in powershell either
I have recently upgrade to Win 10 from windows 7 and it was running fine until it started booting with the analyzing and repairing windows screen. I had tried to get out of it by windows repair and by system restore but there were no points to restore too. I ended up trying the windows reset which failed when I selected to leave my files so then I tried the reset including removing my files. It failed part way through saying it could not complete the action and now when I boot up every time I get "An operating system wasn't found" etc. I do not have a windows CD or know my windows registration number.
View 4 RepliesI seem to have two instances of Java installed on my Win10 Pro 64-bit Laptop .. see screenshot below. Can I safely uninstall one of them?
If "yes" then which one? I have no clue how I ended up with 2 x Java installs on my laptop. I'm assuming I should keep the 64-bit install, and delete the other? I use Chrome as my usual browser, but very occasionally use Edge
In which directory are installed the apps of store in w 10 ?
View 3 RepliesMy HP Desktop computer came with windows 8.1 and several additional programs.
I have installed windows 10 and the programs and apps were still there.
Since I have done a refresh I have lost the HP installed programs and the apps.
On the desk top the program and app icons are monochrome.
I noticed the installation dates of about 12 programs and drivers have been changed to 24/12/15 in Control Panel / Programs & Features (see screen shot). I haven't made any changes and Reliability Monitor does not show any automatic updates. The programs still work.
View 3 RepliesI switched my microsoft account to a local account and now my laptop cannot start applications I have installed, such as Chrome and WoW. I tried switching back to a microsoft account and this did not resolve the problem.
I can see the installed programs in Programs & Features, but they cannot be uninstalled.
The shortcuts that were created for these programs say they cannot find the file location.
While I could just go ahead and reinstalled, this will be a problem for ones like Wow, and its a brand new laptop which I intended to keep as organized as I could :P not a great start.
I have found a few threads on here and other sites to try and fix it, but no such luck. I am not hitting that old 512 app limit, as I only have 242 installed:
PS C:WINDOWSsystem32> Get-StartApps | measure
Count : 242
Average :
Sum :
Maximum :
Minimum :
Property :
I also have tried rebuilding index, and removed everything and set to default. This does still include my start menu icons, which have apps. Any time I search though, NO app is found.
I have an original Dell Venue 8 pro on Win 8.1. The device performs nicely but is crippled by only 32 GB of storage even though it has an SD card slot. For some reason, in the upgrade from Win 8.0 to 8.1, Microsoft disabled the ability to install Windows Store apps to the SD card. Currently, they can only be installed to the C: drive, which is almost entirely full. I've already removed the recovery partition and have designated One Drive files online-only.
I run disk cleanup constantly- Windows 8.1 is just too bloated. Whether Windows 10 will re-enable the ability to install store apps to removable media? Considering that cheap tablets are being released with minimal built-in storage, it seems silly to restrict this function. Although desktop apps can be installed to the SD card, the limitation of Win Store apps defeats the purpose of having a Windows tablet.
I already have a Microsoft account that I've been using for some months with OneDrive. When I start Cortana it requires me to log into that account. I do so, but then it pops up a screen telling me to "Enter your old password one last time", and then "From here on out, you'll unlock this device using the password or PIN you just set up.
Before we can say goodbye to your local password, you need to provide it one last time." It then gives me another password box and says "(leave blank if none)".
But it won't let me leave it blank, and when I re-enter my Microsoft account password, it tells me its incorrect...even though it works fine with OneDrive. What PIN it refers to, nor what it is trying to accomplish...but it has stopped me trying out Cortana.
I have installed adobe creative cloud but its folder is showing in the navigate pane. I want to remove it from there.
View 3 RepliesWhen installing programs most place their shortscuts in the Public folder instead of placing them in the user folder. What am i doing wrong? I never had this problem with Windows 8.
View 2 RepliesI've noticed now on multiple computers I've installed Windows 10 on, that a quick win-key search isn't able to bring up installed apps. I'm sure this isn't how it's meant to be, and that there must be a fix... right?
