Apps :: Drag N Drop File On Top Of Quicklaunch Icons Doesn't Work Anymore
Nov 2, 2015
I'm used to run files by drag'n'dropping them on top of one of the icons in quicklaunch. When I need to launch file with some app, while file is associated with another, or just use the other version of app. E.g. drag and drop png file on Paint icon or Photoshop icon, whether i need to edit it with on or another.
But now, when I drag a file of top of app in quicklaunch, icon turns to striked circle (). At the same time (what frustrates me even more), I can add a file/shortcut to qucklaunch by dragging it on the empty space (or between apps' shortcuts).
I have Windows 10 and everything was working just some time ago.
Normally, if I have notepad open, I would be able to click and drag an appropriate file into notepad, like a txt file, and it would open in notepad. Now, when I click and drag files into notepad, nothing happens.
when I try to move an icon on desktop using "drag & drop" , I get a black circle with a slash on it and it won't move. I have two computers using W10 and this occurs on only one of them.
1) After upgrading to Win 10 (I use office 365) I can no longer Drag & Drop a file into a message body, but it will allow by using the "attach file" tool in Outlook 2013.
2) The Windows Desktop Search is no longer active making those fast, live searches available, like searching thru my Sent folder. The Add In is disabled but when I enable it, and restart Outlook, it goes back to being a disabled Add In.
I am using windows 10 since a few weeks now and already encountered a startmenu bug earlier on. This was because of the Teamspeak Overlay which caused the startmenu to be completely unuseable. Ive removed this plugin and ever since everything worked perfectly, until a few days ago.
I received a complete system update which brought me from the RTM version of Win10 to the Build 10532. Apparently im back to the insider preview. This time for windows 10 Professional.
Ever since ms forced me to install this update my startmenu is completely unresponsive and doesnt work anymore.
I also uninstalled avast already and tried to disable dev mode in PS with this:
Since the latest update to 10041 I no longer have a cursor, my track pad doesn't work. I'm able to log in use keyboard and then get little further. Will plugging in an external mouse work? I don't have one on hand so wanted to see if that would make a difference before buying one.
I have a multifunction HP C5280 printer connected via USB to my router that has a built in printer server and it's a couple of days I can't print through it from my laptop anymore (but I still can print from my smartphone as always).
The problem started when I removed the device from control panel to try installing the latest driver downloaded from the HP website, because I wasn't able to scan from it, but at least I still could print. Since then, even if the printer appears as ready, Windows doesn't even send documents to the spooler: the printer icon appears on the taskbar but it just says "0 document(s) pending".
Additional informations: I already uninstalled the downloaded new driver and installed back the previous working one and it's not a spooler problem since I can print if I directly connect the printer through the laptop USB.
Why can I not drag my icons about my laptop? I am currently installing things for my nephews computer. His is a Lenovo, and does it no bother at all. I noticed Windows photo viewer is not on his computer though.
When dragging files in win 10 the icon is so big that u can not see where u r dragging to.Is there a way to turn this feature off ?
IN THE SCREEN CAPTURE WHEN I DRAG A FILE THIS ICON GOES WITH THE DRAGGING FILE AND MAKE IT HARD TO SEE WHERE YOU ARE DROPPING IT. CAN IT BE CHANGED TO HIDDEN OR SOMETHING>?
I'm liking 10 the more I use it. However there are a few problems Microsoft has to deal with. In 7 it was easy to copy a program to the desktop. In 10 I've tried for a few hours and I can't seem to copy a program to desktop. In fact when I find a program I want to save to desktop, I can't do it. Is there a pro that knows the method?
After doing an upgrade from Win 7 to 10, I find that the drag & drop function isn't working. I've tried the fixes found here and on several other forums but no joy. I got the download from MS which also loaded the install files on a thumb drive. I then installed using the "save my files(upgrade)"settings.
Windows 10 doesn't seem to allow drag and dropping within the Start Menu... As a result, I can't place anything there which doesn't include a "Pin to Start" option upon right click.
I'm also unable to drag/drop onto existing Start Menu items (see attached). Is there a registry hack to correct this ...
I'm used to drag & drop pictures when I have to insert them inline in a mail, or in a FB post or in Twitter. With Windows 10 I cannot! AS you can see here, my dragged picture cannot be dropped down in Gmail.
It's really difficult having to push through folders to get the photo instead of drag there in a second.
Ever since i've updated to Windows 10 i've been having an issue with permissions which im unable to fix.
Basically all of my software and files located on a non-system harddrive appear to be restricted in one way or another despite the fact that i've manually set all of the permissions and made myself an owner of all files.
Here are the examples of issues i've experienced:
1) I can't run any software i've installed on that hard drive unless im running it as administrator. This includes GOM player, Adobe Photoshop, Filezilla and other applications. 2) I can't drag and drop files from that hard drive to installed applications like GOM player or Adobe - it just won't let me. 3) I couldn't use archives and drag and drop files from and to archives without a warning about "harmful files" popping up constantly until i installed winrar on a system disk. 4) Some files gotten locked if they were downloaded using utorrent or any other application which downloads files. I think i was able to fix that by editing permissions and security settings in gpedit.msc and explorer though.
I can't drag and drop text/images from IE 11 to WordPad or other programs. When I try to do this the cursor changes to a black or red circle with a line in it. Drag and dropping in file explorer still works.

2) I can't drag and drop files from that hard drive to or from installed applications like GOM and VLC player's or Adobe Photoshop - it just won't let me since the cursor changes into a cross. If i installed the software on a system drive - i can drag and drop files (movies, photos, etc) just fine when i need to play something in VLC or edit files in Photoshop.

I liked the recycle bin icons used in Windows 8 better than Windows 10, so I changed them successfully to the Win 8 version. But, the new icons do not change to reflect full / empty even though both have been changed. The standard Win 10 recycle bin icons do work okay when I returned to defaults. Why the new ones don't change as they should?
I'll first describe my LANs network environment. Three Windows PCs and one Linux PC. Each PC is sharing one folder called TEMP.
The PCs: WIN10 - Windows 10 TP (non-enterprise edition) WINXP - Windows XP Pro SP3 WINXP0 - Windows XP Home SP3 CENTOS - CentOS 6.5
Using NetBIOS over TCP/IP on each PCs for name and IP address resolution No hosts file contains the names of the LANs PCs The Computer Browser service is active on WIN10 The Computer Browser service is disabled on all the other Windows PCs Samba services on CENTOS is on but the master browser in the WIN10 PC
Firewalls on all PCs is off except for WIN10 but the rules allow file/printer service through The same primary user account is used to logon to each PC No HomeGroup networking used. All PCs are in the same workgroup=LANSYS
Now with all that stated, I'll describe the problem. From WIN10, I can see the list of PCs in the workgroup and access the shared folder TEMP on each PC
From WINXP, I cannot see the list of PCs in the workgroup and can only access the shared folder TEMP on the other PCs when I use the IP address of those PCs in either My Network Places, Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer. I always receive the "Workgroup not accessible ...." popup window when attempting to view LANSYS from My Network Places.
From WINXP0, it's the same as WINXP
From CENTOS, in order to see shares I use the smbclient command. When I execute the command for WIN10, the command fails and reports that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is disabled on WIN10
But NetBIOS has to working on the LAN because I can ping each PC from any PC. I executed ipconfig/all on each Windows PC and it displays NetBIOS is enabled.
So it appears that NetBIOS Sessions service over port 139 inbound traffic on WIN10 is either buggy, crippled, or broken.
Before 1 hour i updated to the last build but some problems appeared. I cant open Market when i click it shows the logo and then it close also when i try to play an mp3 it pops an error box saying "the remote procedure call failed" i cant open videos as well and also photos tab from start doesnt work too . I had a clean installation of the latest Official ISO from MS.
