View 3 RepliesI noticed that when opening Desktop in Windows Explorer, it doesn't show any of the icons of This PC, My Documents, Network and Recycle Bin. I have enabled these icons to be shown on the Desktop through the "Desktop Icons Settings" option. However, Explorer ignores them and only shows icons that are manually put on the Desktop.

View 2 RepliesAfter several hours on my pc i open a windows explorer window and this comes up;
Now if i open up a new explorer window on top of that this comes up;
If you notice the icons are gone, if i close both windows and open a new one it starts over from the top.
Other issue is if i click on properties on files like images no property window comes up, i bet there is more but this just happen an hour ago. Everything works apart from that, bluetooth headset, games, videos, browsers, email etc. and... windows search doesnt work, doesnt turn out any results even if i search for something like notepad
It's been a few days now since icons aren't showing everywhere including Desktop (really bugs me, this one), Taskbar (Not actually disappeared, but deformed), and File Explorer. I did things like calling Task Manager up and end the process of explorer.exe and run it again, no luck. I restarted Windows, yielded no results. I also tried turning the machine off and on again, to no avail.
Here are some screenshots regarding the problem I am facing.
While Desktop and Explorer are not working as well as they should, Start Menu and Tablet Mode appear to be quite fine by themselves.
My machine is running Windows 10 Home Edition, not Insider Preview. I don't know how to find the version/build numbers, but I'm positive it's the latest build available since I just checked Windows Update.
After the Windows 8.1 debacle, Windows 10 has been a breeze. But instead of seeing the actual thumbnail of a graphic file in file explorer, I get this. Is there some setting where I can actually see what the picture is in file explorer?
View 1 RepliesI have a Surface Pro 3 with windows 10 ENT. Everytime I right-click on files that aren't system icons (my computer and things like that) I get this message:
I have booted with a clean boot. I have corporate antivirus that I cannot remove and I do have the classic start menu app installed ( I have removed this in the process of trouble shooting but have since reinstalled it as it had no positive effect)
Here is all the log info I could find from event viewer (entries are separated by ************):
Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 10.0.10240.16603, time stamp: 0x56553bcd
I removed the Windows Apps (3D Builder, Groovy etc.) using PowerShell and Remove-AppxPackage / Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage on our Windows 10 machines (64bit, some Home, some Pro) at home.
This worked satisfying enough, but for some (very few) local users the start menu entries for those apps are not removed. I refer to "All Apps" (the A-Z list of all apps).
Situation is like this: application is removed (checked with Get-Appxpackage in Powershell)start menu still refers to the Windows Apps with the text entry; it does not show the icon, but a coloured rectangle (sized like an icon)application cannot be started through this icon (as it is uninstalled)
(Screenshot shows the Maps (german: Karten) and Contacts (german: Kontakte) "icons")
I checked the usual places:
C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuC:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms
But of course there are no links to those Windows Apps.
How to remove these orphan "icons" from the start menu (A-Z list)? What makes Windows show those entries in the start menu's A-Z list?
Is anyway to edit "all Apps", especially to remove some icons from? I have uninstalled Edge, but the icon is still in Start menu of "all apps".
View 5 RepliesAll my desktop icons are stuck on the left side of the desktopAll file explorer view are stuck in details view. Now yes, I have turned off Auto-arrange, still refreshes to all icons on left. I have tired ALL sorts combinations of view + sort by... nothing. I have tired many anti-malware/virus scans and nothing has come up. I have tired CCleaner pretty much everything and the problem persists.
Of note, I had done a system restore a week and half ago to a specific point and that fixed the problem but for just a day, then it happened again. When I got around to having time to go for another system restore, that restore point was gone and now no other restore point is fixing the issue -_-That left me to think it might be something I installed or perhaps a windows update... but after having uninstalled pretty much everything I could that I installed in the last week as well as removing recent updates.... nothing. I have also tried making a new windows account (local)... nothing. Also tried in safe mode, still nothing.
I have an issue with some icons in windows 10, some of them are not being displayed by windows.
View 9 RepliesWhenever I open an app with icons for controls, they're all very, very tiny. This makes it hard to read what any of them are, and really hard to click on. I tried the "Change the size of text, apps, and other items" setting, but that doesn't impact the size of the icons within the apps at all. I have attached pictures for reference.
I'm on a 13.3 in Lenovo Yoga Pro 3.
Why can I not drag my icons about my laptop? I am currently installing things for my nephews computer. His is a Lenovo, and does it no bother at all. I noticed Windows photo viewer is not on his computer though.
View 9 Replieshow to change icons of pinned Windows 10 apps (on taskbar) like Flipboard, Mail, Shazam, Dropbox, etc?
View 3 RepliesAll modern apps have their icons broken in one way or the other.
For example, taskbar icons, left to right: Store, Mail, Calendar, Maps, Alarms
Or when I search in start menu:
Store
Maps
Mail
The icons display properly in All apps and when pinned as tiles.
I have used the Office XP shortcut bar with every windows version up to windows 7 without problems. When I upgraded to Windows 10, the Icons only show a ? and the program associated with the icon will only execute if I right click on the icon and click either open or run as administrator. The program name associated with the icon will display when I hover over the icon.
Is there any fix for displaying the actual icon picture? I have more programs that I use daily than would fit on the task bar. I don't want to clutter my desktop with icons. The shortcut bar allows me to organize my program icons in different task bars so I would like to continue using it.
As per the image below - why are many of my apps not showing their icons? There's not options to change them and I've tried pinning the original .exe and shortcuts to the app but there is no difference.
View 4 RepliesI am using Windows 10240 and I have the latest iTunes 12.2.1 installed. I have it pinned to my taskbar but when I open it it creates a second icon for iTunes on the taskbar. I have tried unpinning and repinning both icons several times but that doesn't work. It always creates a second icon when it opens.
View 4 RepliesJust got this error and couldn't find anything like this solved. The icons (or maybe the apps) are missing from the start menu.
View 3 RepliesI am missing the icons for a few pieces of software, such as office, i have tried resetting the icon cache, to no avail
View 5 RepliesSize of text and size of toolbox icons are tiny. About half the size as items on this text function. Tried everything ...
Fast Stone Image Viewer is example...
I just saw that there was a green check mark on some of the application icons on my desktop! Never seen this before! And then suddenly gone!
View 3 RepliesAfter disabling and uninstalling Cortana, Edge and others as well as Search I ended up with 2 dead icons in the All apps menu one for Search and one for Edge. When I drag the Search icon to the desktop it's named as:
@{Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_1.4.8.176_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewyms-resource--Microsoft.Windows.Cortana-resources-TileDisplayName} but not sure I want to start deleting various reg entries where this shows. I also tried in all the usual places where the shortcuts are supposed to be but nothing worked and the icons are still there so how they can be removed if at all. It's more of a cosmetic problem as I have no issues with Windows otherwise...
In my windows 10 start menu all my installed programs give a white paper (with curled right corner) icon. There are a few that give the original icon but most of them do not. I tried a new clean install but that didn't work.
I also tried:
-SFC scannow gedaan met deze opdracht: sfc /scannow
(heeft niets opgelost)
-DISM gedaan met deze opdracht: dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
-Delete imoage cach
-Rebuild image cach
-Used another account
-In the start menu folders the icons are as they should be
I even installed classic shell for a while and the the icons are normal! So I think there is something wrong with my start menu. I tried everything I could think of but nothings works. It's annoying to see the wrong icons although when I click them de app opens normally.
What can I do to get the normal icons back?
I created shortcuts for my most used Windows 10 apps/tiles to my desktop, but some of the shortcuts have blank icons. I re-copied some and they stuck, but a few others are still blank after several retries. i.e. Scan and Store are blank but Calendar, Calculator, Photos, Weather and Alarms have the correct icons.
View 1 RepliesSo, I decided to just do a reinstall of Windows 10 after having a couple of issues and downloading software such as iObit that is questionable at best (just found that out, glad I did some research online) and everything has been going really smoothly in terms of updating programs, apps, etc., but I just found this weird glitch or bug if you will. Take a look at the screenshot attached. Doing the simple ctrl+mouse wheel will make the desktop icons larger or smaller, but for some reason the text size is still SUPER small. My resolution settings are normal for Windows 10 (250% recommended) and I've never encountered this issue before.
