Jul 29, 2015Windows 10 just came out today and I have been attempting to install it on my Windows 8.1 Pro desktop. I was able to get it to work on a Windows 7 Pro with no problems. I have been using the Media Creation Tool that I downloaded straight for Microsoft. Every time I have run it on my Win 8.1 Pro, after downloading it, it comes up with an error message saying: "Something Happened: setup has failed to initialize the working directory".
I also tried to create a Win10 bootable USB but when I booted to it said my key wouldn't work. I looked over several times and it wasn't wrong. I got this copy of Windows 8.1 Pro from Dreamspark but it is a legitimate version of Windows.
I have also tried updating my Win 8.1, using the Windows Update Diagnostics Tool, and using the "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" thingy.
I also tried deleting the $Windows. ~WS and $Windows. ~BT folders and re-downloading Windows 10 but no avail.

Jul 29, 2015Having some trouble installing on this tablet. It worked fine on my other computers. I tried installing from a USB drive and got " setup failed to initialize the working directory". Then tried upgrading directly from the media creation tool site and got "something happened" error sometime aftr it completed downloading.

Jul 29, 2015I have a legit Win 7 laptop. I made a Win 10 reservation a few weeks back. Today, I went to microsoft[DOT]com/en-us/software-download/windows10 to download the "Media creation tool". I chose the 64-bit version because my laptop is 64-bit. The first 100 minutes was Downloading. Next 15 minutes was Verifying Download. Third stage was something about media center.
And then I got to a choice of a) Upgrade your PC now or b) Prepare USB drive (or something like this). I chose Option A. It got to 3% when I got this error message: Something happened. Setup has failed to initialize the working directorySee attached screenshot.
I thought to myself, "Well, the Windows 10 installation files are now on my hard drive. I won't have to wait 2 hours again." Well, I'm wrong. I double-clicked the Media Creation Tool exe file again, and it's back to downloading Windows 10 from 1% again!

Sep 15, 2015I'm using Win 10 Home and all windows 10 apps like store, xbox app, photos etc everything forecloses.
Have already tried both the methods as mentioned by you a couple of times - but no luck.
Method 1 wsreset.exe returns the following error:
ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches.
Have also tried sfc /scannow error - finding corrupt files but can't repair...
Have also tried DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth error 0x800f0906.
Drivers/Hardware :: Keys Take A While To Initialize
Jan 3, 2016What I mean is that specifically, my T, Y, Shift, Tab keys take 15 to 20 minutes to register. Before then, I physically have to push down hard on the key to make it work. I tried with a different keyboard. Same problem. That narrows down my issue to a software or internal hardware issue. I am asking this now because my parents have to get work done on the computer and want to use the keyboard completely right after the computer starts up. Is there anything I can do to diagnose the problem?

Sep 2, 2015Since I put vmWare 10 on my laptop , my external HDD wont initialize. it says its there but when i try to initialize it tells me my drive is too small for GPT, Its 500gb. When I installed VMWare i might have had the external connected and i believe i opted for to split partitions into 8 parts. I have some data and files on the drive that i need but once i take them off i will just format it. So how can i initialize the drive and/or get my data and store it some where safe? I am running windows 10 BTW

Dec 7, 2015Following the November Update about six important apps such as People and Windows Store itself have failed. Their tiles have gone blank, they do not respond when clicked, nor do their entries in all apps -- if they are there. Store cannot be found anywhere and I cannot download / reinstall from the online Store.
I have used the Add-Appx Package command from within FixWin 10, and directly, in Windows Power Shell, without success.
(for some reason I cannot paste it here) .
However, Power Shell does report on each of the failed apps with a brief statement of why it cannot re-install / re-register them.
Video And Audio Take Several Minutes To Initialize And Sometimes Don't Sync Up
Oct 31, 2015Almost anytime I try to use audio or video on my laptop it gets stuck for a while before it starts playing (video is worse). It happens both online and offline with things like windows media player, soundcloud, and spotify, but I notice it most frequently on youtube. When I click on a video, it takes ~1-3 minutes for it to start playing. If I pause a video and come back to it a couple minutes later, the audio will play first, then the audio will stop and the video will play alone until the two sync up and return to playing normally. I downloaded a browser extension to try and record what was happening, and amusingly the extension will not start working until the video is also working, so I assume there is a similar mechanism of action between all those things.
This is a used computer I've had for about 4 months. I've used Windows 8.1 and 10 on it during that time and had the same problem on both operating systems. It's an HP Pavilion g7-2251dx.
Customization :: Screen Saver Keeps Resetting To 1 Minute And Won't Initialize
Aug 4, 2015I set the screen saver to " blank" and " 10 min. " and at some point it re-sets and won't initialize and the time is set to " 1 min. " It never comes on at that point.
So, I set it again. and again at some point it's back to as if it was not set again.
At first I thought it was just me not doing something right but it happened to my Mom's computer as well.
Update : It seems to change when I shutdown and then start up in the morning as well as any re-boot.

i already tried uninstall the app, which cause me stuck, because i cant install it anymore i also already tried wsreset, not working i disable few stuff... tried turn back on but nothing working...
turn on back location/position function to on (i disabled it) also in local group policy , i set back to allow microsoft account (i set to block sign-in because i dont want to login)
i read that there is another method that stop windows update service then move/rename softwaredistribution... so windows update make new fresh directory i havent tried it, because it seems there is something wrong with the app itself and if possible i dont want to messing with system files.

Aug 14, 2015I upgraded my Lenovo U310 laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 a week ago. Everything seems to have upgraded successfully. The only problem that I can find is that none of the video streaming from Windows 10 apps can be played. I get an error 'Unsupported video type or invalid file path' when I click on a video article in USA Today or when I try to stream video from any other apps, NBC News, MSN Money, etc... from Windows 10 store.
I have no issue streaming videos from any of the browser though. What could be missing that could cause video streaming to fail?
Computer Failed To Sleep

Jan 9, 2016Windows 10 could't see my Seagate GoFlex Home external drive. I tried to find new drivers - nope. I tried to re-install - nope. I initiated the return to Windows 7 without problems. I have two hard drives: C: for programs and E: for Data. The problem is that Windows 7 won't load. I get the logo screen and then the choice to restart normally or not. Nothing works. Things I have already tried range from deleting programs and device drivers to reinstalling the updater. Have run a clean boot and ran from the updater, the build. a startup disk, and from a usb flash drive. I have deleted my printer drivers, virus software, and cleaners.

Aug 22, 2015After unsuccessfully trying to installing windows 10,it was stuck on 46% for 17 hours.
I tried to reinstall my windows 7 Pro Disc,it wouldn’t boot and was not recognize the disc,l tried to load and boot an Linux Ubuntu & Mint via usb & disc,didn't work.
I tried an XP pro disc that l downloaded and burnt onto a CD,that loaded XP pro on my PC. Which seems to work apart from not been able to access the internet.
I'm thinking maybe l should wipe the hard-drive and try to reinstall my windows 7.

Oct 20, 2015So after a stressful day at school I got home anxiously waiting to get on my computer, only to find out that after a recent update my computer has completely stopped responding. Now in the first few hours of dealing with this problem I was able to access the Windows repair options, only to find out that all of them failed. I was unable to do a system restore, nor diagnose my computer or even nuke it.
Later on things eventually got worse because now I'm not even able to access the options to fix my computer anymore or even downgrade to Windows 8.1. All that pops up after my computer starts up is "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system.
Updates :: Failed Update Loop
Mar 5, 2016The update creating this issue: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3140743).These are the steps of the loop:
1) My PC downloads this update automatically in the background. I have no option to stop my PC from downloading it.
2) I am forced to install this update. There is no option for me to shut down/restart without having to install the update.
3) During the restart, I get a notification that my PC was unable to complete the update and hence the changes are rolled back and the whole process starts again.
This thing has been going on for days, wasting my time and getting on my nerves.Why is Microsoft so dumb?
A) If at all my PC has downloaded an update, why don't they save it somewhere on my PC till the update process is successfully complete instead of downloading it again and again wasting my bandwidth?
B) Why have they not given options to opt out of (downloading/installing) troublesome updates like this?
C) Is there a solution to this issue?
Shut Down When Electricity Failed / Now Does Not Start
Aug 4, 2015On my desktop PC, ugraded to 10 on Friday morning, been using all weekend no problems. On Monday we had a winter wonderland, was checking snow history when electricity went off momentarily. PC shut down. I had perhaps 5 wiindows open at the time.PC powered back with message that windows had not shut down properly, it would repair, said it couldn't do, and since then will only start , and say restoring your previous version of windows....over and over again.
I got on this laptop,downloaded correct 32 bit version of 10, burnt disk from iso. can boot into that disk no problems. Have run all the recovery options. Reset - no changes made. Repair startup - no can do. Restore previous - cannot do either to 10 or 7. have run out of options. Even attempting the last thing I want to do, Install, does not work.if I choose upgrade option, it tells me to remove installation disk and start nnormally which I cannot do.

Laptop Won't Start After Reset Failed
Nov 22, 2015I tried to reset Windows 10 after having problems with Drive C ,after going through some of the procedures a notice came up saying it couldn't reset. Now nothing comes up on the screen only the Samsung name flicks on & off. I have pressed the F4 key to no avail.
