View 2 RepliesI think this started with the new November build, but Skype seems to be auto-starting, even though I have not installed it.the process is called Microsoft Skype.
how can I disable this process, so it won't start up every time I boot?
any other unneeded windows processes that are recommended to disable?
I was using skype as usual, put my computer to sleep, and woke it a few hours later. (Laptop) Anyways, I tabbed over to skype, and started fiddling with video options (I was trying out a spare webcam since my laptop's is horrible). I compared the two feeds for a while, and clicked the drop-down option for my laptop camera to compare again.
This is when my skype stopped responding, and I closed it with Task Manager. When I opened it again, I received an error telling me I was already logged on. When checking Task Manager for any skype processes to close so I could entirely restart the program, I found this: [URL] .... I have it highlighted. I can't end the task.
Skype does not work in Windows10, not possible to reinstall. First I could not close Skype.
Today I could not open. Restart the OS, no start. I tried to install Skype again. Does not work. After an hour it is still updating.
Chrome destroyed by windows 10
Edge sux:
- slow
- cannot work with Discuss properly
- browser URL space is not intuitive. OMG Double work to find your banks, everything. Terrible. Please pay for google, buy something
- not efficient in monitor use: unnecessary thick headings, unmanageably (by touch pad) thin rolling column.
Bing is less useful then google:
- Cannot translate,
- no scholar.
I was trying to get Skype Desktop to work on W10 v1511 and decided to uninstall the Skype Video App that comes with W10. Now I want to get it back! Short of reinstalling W10 how do I go about reinstalling the Skype Video App? I know it must be obvious but I'm at a loss.
View 4 RepliesI have headphones set as my Default Communication Device, speakers as my Default Device and when communication activity is detected, all other sounds are set to mute.
Using Skype (desktop), on W8.1 this worked fine; on answering a call, the music through the speakers is cut. However, on W10 (both Home and Enterprise) the sound through the speakers is not muted.
Seems to be the exact opposite of the following...
Skype muting other sounds in Windows 10 Pro.
how to delete the call history of the new integrated Skype Video App ?
View 1 RepliesWhen i shutdown windows Skype will not automatically close, giving me the error in the picture below. I have to manually right click on the Skype icon in the system tray and quit it, then shutdown windows again. It's a hassle.
I've reinstalled Skype. I'm running latest version of windows 1511 and all upto date. I'm using the Skype desktop app, on a desktop pc, in desktop mode.
When I open the Camera app I get "Something went wrong" 0xa00f4273 error. ... and the application crashes after that
In Skype/Hangouts the camera is working BUT the frame rates per seconds are very low - around 5. So the picture is really laggy.
My driver is: USB2.0 VGA UVC WebCam. Device manager says the driver is up-to-date. In ASUS's website there aren't any webcam drivers.
tried updating skype but getting error code 1618.
tried updating AVG anti virus but update failed: update detect running installation. Complete that installation before starting update not installing or updating anything at the moment.
I went to default apps and chose Windows Media Player as my default for Music, but some playlists still want to open with Groove. Is there a way to disable Groove without it affecting my other apps?
View 1 RepliesI just reinstalled and there's no option in her settings to turn off the web search she does when you search for files on your pc and such. How else could I turn it off if its not listed in her settings?
View 5 RepliesIt's interesting to see that after i "disabled" it from the options, the process Cortana is still running and is tied to searchui.exe . And after deleting Cortanaware, the windows search bar stopped responding!
Is there any other way to stop this from the services or something? i've looked for it and found nothing. It's funny how MS tells you Cortana is "disabled" but the process in task manager is still up and running just fine.
This is how to permanently disable Cortana, first start into safe mode and navigate to [URL].. you will need to Take Ownership of the Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy folder and then delete the file SearchUI.exe. How to remover it from the start menu.
View 9 RepliesOn every computer I've installed Windows 10 on (a dozen+) despite me setting all my default file types and applications, the first time a specific file type in opened, it still asks if I want to use this program. I've attached a picture of the first time I'm trying to open a MOV file.
Like I said, I've already specified that it should open with VLC, but it still asks anyways. I've tried this through Settings and Control Panel but it still doesn't work.
In the picture it does say iTunes is a new application, which I know would probably make this happen, but even without a new application being installed after setting my default file types, it still happens. Once I get through this screen it won't ever come up for MOV files again, but it will if I opened an MP4, and nearly any other file type on the computer. It doesn't usually happen with anything besides media files, but ANY picture; movie or audio file will do this (among several random others). This happens on EVERY Windows 10 I install, and I'm tired of having to keep two dozen dummy files and opening them all to disable this message on each computer. Is their a way I can prevent this message from coming up.
Strange, Settings > Personalization > Start ::
I can disable "Show most used apps" and "Show recently opened apps" using this key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced]
"Start_TrackDocs"=dword:00000000
"Start_TrackProgs"=dword:00000000
But I also need to disable "Show recently added apps" via registry and I couldn't find the related key.
i have recently updated to windows 10 and i have the same problem that i had in windows 8. I've never been able to solve it. The option "show app notification" is disabled and i have the message "Some setting are managed by your organization". Attached you can find a screenshot of my problem.
View 2 Replieswhen I set a default program in the Settings app and then open a file, Windows still asks which program I want to use. Admittedly, it does this only once per file type, but this is extremely annoying in a work environment where there are numerous computers.
For example, I went into the Settings app and set the .AU3 file extension to be opened in a specific program. Then, I double-clicked an .AU3 file, and I got this window:
It has the correct default in the above image, but it asks if I want to "keep using this app." Why? Can I make this stop?
I am using the Group Policy Editor to disable Windows Mail and Windows Calendar.However, both programs are still available. Is the GP Editor completely worthless?
View 1 RepliesI activated the ctrl alt disable login screen for Windows 10 by using this registry key from this forum.(Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums).
I downloaded and installed the key to disable only to find it didn't work so I tried to manually do it by changing the number from 0 to 1 only to find its already at 1.
I also tried going the user passwords2 to find the box to disable ctrl alt disable login is already ticked, but is greyed out meaning I can't untick the box.
When I'm using skype I can't do anything else. That is to say, when Skype is in use I can't access anything else using the internet.
View 2 RepliesUpdated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and the desktop Skype is now very blurry. How to resolve the issue?
View 6 RepliesMy mic is so quiet on steam and skype, starting from a couple of days ago, up until then my mic was perfect. I have checked many forms and youtube videos with no success.
View 1 RepliesI am absolutely clueless as to what is going on, everything was working fine last night. But now nothing is playing sound except from browsers and skype. I have tried black ops 2, gta v, shadow of mordor, steam trailers for games, but to absolutely no avail. It's really starting to annoy me, as all i want to do is enjoy my Sunday afternoon. And there will always be the odd bloke that asks, I am using Razer krakens, plugged into the side of my Blackwidow. I've completely uninstalled Razer Synapse, and restarted my PC countless times.
View 1 RepliesI have installed windows 10. Files were transferred well, but skype isn't working properly. I can hear the other side, but the other side can't hear me. Also the printer isn't working..
View 3 RepliesEvery time I try to send a message thru the message app it doesn't send thru Skype. It always fails to send .
