View 4 RepliesI'm running the RTM on a netbook and have noticed that, unlike in Windows 7/8/8.1, I'm no longer able to hit Start and type in an executable. I have a bunch of portable apps that I typically type in and pull up. Now, the Start menu search pulls up ever OTHER file except the executable. It's very annoying and don't see why this shouldn't work.
What's worse, is if I pin the app to the start menu, it doesn't search it then. Say, I pin "puttyportable.exe" as a shortcut (and rename it to just PuTTY) to the start menu. Typing in "putty" gives me nothing - just the same associated files that were in the puttyportable folder (ini files, etc).
When I connect my Nexus 6 phone to my windows 10 computer with usb cable, the system beeps but the phone don't show up in file explorer. Do I need to set up something?

Because of this I find my eyes have to work harder to get where I want to. 'Classic Shell' installed for Explorer only, seems to do nothing regarding this.

View 4 RepliesSeems plenty of stuff around to GET audio from TV TO a phone --I'd like it the OTHER way around --FROM PHONE TO TV.
I can use Bluetooth for a Bluetooth speaker - but Bluetooth is pretty horrible compared with decent HD audio -- and the top end phones have quite decent DAC's in them making transmitting HD Audio worthwhile.
I want it primarily to CAST Internet radio streams (.OPML streams) to my TV speakers - chromecast should be able to receive the audio.
I have no problem with local Audio FILES (using PLEX) and VIDEO (again using PLEX) but there's no option for capturing and streaming Internet radio either.
There's a Tunein app on the phone that can do it (sort of) but the interface is so horrible (can't select stations by genre etc and no way to save favourites for example) so if I can stream the audio output from my phone which captures Internet streams from Logitech media server and Cantata / MPD streams I'd be happy.
So, it's from PHONE TO TV not the other way around. I've got the latest Chromecast device too.

For some reason; itunes keeps giving me the message "itunes can not sync your phone because you do not have enough access privileges" or something to that extent. And the odd thing is for some reason it just started happening today. The syncing had been working fine up until today.

After upgrading my Windows 8.1 system to to Windows10 , when I restart or turn on my computer the numbers lock key is not turned on. This may sound trivial, but if I forget about it, my passwords won't work because many of the passwords contain numbers. Is there a way for me to keep the numbers lock key on when my computer restarts?

View 1 RepliesWhat I need to do in Windows 10 to get my Numbers Lock to stay on all the time? Each time I start the system I have to remember to press the Numbers Lock button. On my Windows 7 it stayed on all the time unless I purposely turned it off.
It's no real big deal to push a button, but it's just hard to type in a password or user name and discover it didn't work simply because this darn button was turned off by the system.
I did do a "regedit" and changed the numbers in the box to #2 and restarted the system. When the system restarted the Numbers Lock light was on and I figured I must have fixed it. However when I booted up today it was off again.
I figured out on the pro version but the home version doesn't have GPedit.msc. I disabled Defender but I still see antimalware services executable running in Processes.

View 9 RepliesNo matter what I do Windows always labels my secondary TV screen as my PC screen and vice versa. It's not really a problem in terms of functionality but it does annoy me that I can't change it. I've been through countless televisions and GPU's over the years but it always remains so possibly there is a good reason for it?
Anyway, the 'issue' has been persistent since W7 (and possibly before?) but I'm wondering if there is now/or always has been a work around for this?

I was just working with my Task Manager startup items and noticed there are several items that have numbers in parenthesis next to them. What do those numbers mean? Are those numbers telling me I need to do something, as in are they registering any sort of "alert" message?
View 3 RepliesWindows mobile for phones is currently at build 10134 (according to the latest leak) and the desktop version is at build 10135.
I find this interesting because Microsoft was so behind with their mobile builds vs the desktop. Could this mean Microsoft has played caught up internally with the mobile build?
I don't know, but I would like to start seeing universal updates to universal apps, instead of apps updating separately for desktop and mobile.
Just thought it was interesting to bring up - especially since we all want more stable versions of Windows 10 mobile, maybe it means the core OS is even closer to the desktop version.
I was trying to install WMP on my PC; I disovered that it was already installed, even though there was no icon on the desktop, start menu or application bar.
Anyway, I'm now trying to set it as the default application for opening music CDs. The problem is that it is not listed in the default programs, and I cannot seem to get it included on the list. I know how to associate programs with different file types, but that's not really what I want; I'd like WMP to launch automatically when I insert a CD.
So I just installed Windows 10 a day ago, and all I have to say is wow, Microsoft did great. I'm blown away by it's speed/ease of use! Anyways, when I click on Cortana, the only options that I have are to show or hide the Cortana icon, I don't have a "Show search box" context menu selection. I installed Windows 10 through the insiders program page when I installed.
View 8 RepliesSo, I have just bought a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 14) running Win10. After Win7 everything is a bit of a shock. The current problem I have encountered (there are many more) is that I don't seem to be able to force Win 10 to make Photoscape the default app for managing images. I can open individual photos with the program but only by using the 'open with' option.
Trying to use 'Settings', it tells me Photoscape is there, however, it is listed as 'unavailable'. Furthermore, when attempting to make the change Win 10 lists only its own photo app or 'Go to the store'.
I'm wondering if there is a way I can add Control Panel to my start menu in the same area where Settings is currently located.
