View 2 RepliesIf I pin iTunes shortcut to task bar and then launch iTunes, it shows two iTunes icons in task bar. How do I go about fixing this?
View 2 RepliesI have the latest version of iTunes pinned to my taskbar and whenever I open iTunes, it creates a new icon next to it.
I have had this problem recently on Windows 7, however I fixed it by pinning the 'open' iTunes icon to the taskbar and unpinning the 'closed' one. I updated to Windows 10 and this was not an issue. HOWEVER, now I've purchased a new computer and the problem is persisting BUT this time on my new computer, it doesn't give me the option to pin the 'open' icon. So in other words, if I pin/unpin one of the open OR closed icons, the command will happen to both icons.
Is there a way to duplicate the taskbar to my second monitor? Right now, there are no toolbars, notification icons, search or date/clock.
View 9 RepliesOne of my pinned items on the taskbar (MusicBee) refuses to act properly. It always shows two instances of the icon when the program is open.
I tried unpinning the items, opening the program from it's folder and then right-click > Pin to taskbar but that creates a duplicate icon as well.
I also checked C:UsersMYNAMEAppDataRoamingMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick LaunchUser PinnedTaskBar for duplicate shortcuts but there is only one.
When I pin Office 2016 to my taskbar, then click on it opens a new icon on the taskbar instead of using the one already there.
Also, not sure if this is related. But when I right click on this new icon and go to the "tasks" menu with the "New email message, new appointment, etc" links none of them work. Nothing happens when I click them.
Tried repairing and reinstalling 2016 with no luck.
I am after some software that will remove duplicate files. In this case, some program seems to have recreated duplicate folders with just a file called "desktop.ini" in it. I would like to be able to search for that and remove all the corresponding duplicate folders that contain just that filename.
View 3 RepliesI've been experiencing a problem with the Windows 10 Calendar app - it shows duplicate events. I'm using a Microsoft account (Outlook.com) and have it configured on the computer. Mail app Works ok and syncs. Calendar App shows duplicate events. If I access the same calendar on Outlook.com the calendar shows OK with no duplicates. On another computer with the same Setup the calendar does not show duplicates, Works as expected so this seems a problem confined to this one computer only.
This Windows 10 installation is about a month old (installed from scratch - no upgrade from 8) and has all published MS updates instaled and also all app updates. Have tried to uninstall the Calendar app, rebooted, reinstall the app, but duplicates persist.
I originally wanted to completely disable the UAC as the admin permission messages that popped for almost any/everything i wanted to do were very annoying. I dont remember exactly what i did, but it was something in gpedit or something similar to it. After i did that my windows store app stopped working, and appeared as a blank space in my task bar as it was still pinned there. As the store wasnt working, apps related to it like the calculator disappeared from my pc. They dont appear when i search for them, and links to DL ones from the store dont work either.
I tried the guide here Apps - Reinstall and Re-register in Windows 8 and 10 - Windows 10 Forums and did step 2, but that managed to break powershell and make it disappear as well as disabling my task bar and start menu. I cant right click anything in my task bar, and can only use the start menu's right click menu.
New to windows 10... Wanting to pin Apps to Taskbar. I could add some Apps (i.e. excel, Powerpoint) to taskbar through the All App menu an right clicking and selecting pin to taskbar. However, some programs like Outlook and Word I could not pin to the taskbar only to the start menu. Never gave me a choice to pin to the taskbar.
View 2 RepliesI recently installed Windows 10, and everything was fine until I started installing my programs and wanted to pin the ones I use most to the taskbar.
Some of them can be pinned to the taskbar, but others can't for some reason. Even though they have the option "Pin to taskbar" when I right click, nothing happens after I click it, they don't get pinned. I have tried all methods described in this article.
This is a screenshot of my desktop with all icons that can be pinned to the taskbar in green, and the ones that can't be pinned in red (examples: Steam, AIMP, CCleaner, Word). Note that "metro" apps can be added without any problem. Also, I didn't have this issue in Windows 8/8.1.
And here examples of the methods I have tried.
(right click from desktop shortcut)
(right click from start menu)
(right click from taskbar after opening the program)
chrome is running with a blue line underneath but steam has a yellow line and it's half highlighted yellow but it's not downloading or running anything and it's been like that for the past 10 minutes
View 3 RepliesI have upgraded to 10. I have Outlook on my task bar and when I open it it opens just fine but if I do something in Outlook like delete an email, it reverts back down to the task bar (it is still open mind you). Same with file manager - say I delete a file then it also reverts to the task bar but again in an open state. I have to click on it again in order to bring it up on screen. My preference is that my app stays on the screen until I have finished with it.
View 2 RepliesOk so, this is my work computer and I did the upgrade to windows 10 and my first reaction was to go thru and get rid of all these apps and things I don't need on a work computer. Well, Cortana was one of the first things to go. Big mistake. I realized later that Cortana was the only way to search my computer for files. I had removed her search box, and the little O icon on my taskbar. The only place she remains is in the start menu.
I have been googling for 2 days now trying to figure out how to put that dang search box BACK ONTO MY TASKBAR! I cannot right click the taskbar and select Cortana and choose to hide or place on taskbar or anything of that nature like all the articles I keep reading, because I removed her completely.
See?? Not there, no Cortana mentioned at all.
I cannot drag Cortana out of the start menu and pin it back on the taskbar, it simply will not let me.
Nowhere in the settings can I find the option to put Cortana back as a search bar on my taskbar. Or to just put her back on the taskbar as the O icon. I used the search feature from my start menu in Windows 7 daily. Yes, I can open the start menu and click on cortana, then click on the search box and type my inquiry, but 9 times out of 10 I am on the phone with someone spouting off information that needs to be accessed quickly and eliminating the few extra clicks it takes to access Cortana like I am currently, would make me so very happy.
This issue has been with me for 2 months, I am unable to do my work and projects due to this burden of my computer. I have followed everything, from step by step tutorials of how to solve this problem to HD video tutorials and still doesn't work.
My taskbar isn't working, cannot open the start menu and virtually anything. I can open my folders app on the taskbar but it will hang eventually. On the desktop, I couldn't launch any apps at all, except for the recycle bin (it will hang eventually too).
I have tried advanced troubleshooting but doesn't work at all. I wouldn't want to remove all my files too (kinda important and I could not move all of them to a hard drive).
The windows store app is missing from the taskbar and when I open "all apps" the box by "store" is blank. How do I load app for the store?
View 2 RepliesWhat i mean is when i move the mouse cursor over an app window in taskbar if it's a game in the passed i saw the game running/playing in the small window of the app or if it's a program. Now i need to click on it and enter to it to see what is going on with it.
Now the problem is only with battlefield bad company 2 when the game is running in the background instead clicking on it's icon to enter it and see what is going i want that when i move the mouse cursor over it it should show me in the small window the game. But instead i see only white small window.
I am using Windows 10240 and I have the latest iTunes 12.2.1 installed. I have it pinned to my taskbar but when I open it it creates a second icon for iTunes on the taskbar. I have tried unpinning and repinning both icons several times but that doesn't work. It always creates a second icon when it opens.
View 4 RepliesI've got a clean install version of Windows 10 10240 on my machine. The store Icon recently changed from the all white minimal version to the one shown in the image attached. The background color changes with the theme. I've run the SFC /scannow command and found no errors. Additionally, I've cleared the Icon cache using the instructions at the link below.

I just got a Surface Pro 4. I was having no issues, until out of the blue, the taskbar and start menu on it stopped working, and now it's an empty, glitched taskbar
I tried to restart the explorer process (which made it worse), restart the machine several times, and nothing has worked.
I have a problem opening folders that i pinned down in the taskbar.
When I click a folder nothing happens (with the exception of "this PC"/"Your PC", in which case it actually opens what it should open)
This problem is limited to Windows Explorer, pinned items for Chrome, Steam and Mozilla Thunderbird work just fine.
hp 15 laptop win 10 I upgraded from win 8.1 to 10 with a usb bootable. Everything went well and is working fine except! If I put a usb stick in with or without data then go to file explorer it shows a double entry for the usb stick. If it contains data it shows up the same in both entries. Is this a win 10 problem or my computer?
View 1 RepliesI've been running Windows 10 since last August, after upgrading from Win 8.1 on my Asus laptop.
I use the taskbar (launchbar?) to start my favourite programs, such as Excel, and some 8-10 files are stacked on the icon so I can right-click the icon and select/open my desired file.
That was until approximately 10 days ago, when clicking on a file name only opened Excel, and I have to do a file/open within Excel to get the file I want open. Other programs that are also on the bar e.g. my PDF program, still opens the file name I click on.
Just as the description states; I am using a Mac-style dock at the bottom of my WinX desktop and therefore have my taskbar located at the top of the screen. I am having an irritating issue from time-to-time, with the title-bars of some programs (or 'apps', as they seem to call them these days...) opening BENEATH the taskbar, making it impossible to get to the minimize, resize, and close buttons without first moving the taskbar to the right or left side of the screen, then moving or resizing the app window to access the buttons, and then moving the taskbar back to the top of the screen.
I am assuming the old XP "Keep Taskbar On Top Of Windows" would work, however some dufus-executive at Msoft apparently somewhere along the way determined this is no longer an attribute that anybody needs, probably since HE doesn't use it, and I cannot find the option anywhere. There used to be a tutorial over at 'Seven Forums' [URL] .... on how to reactivate it, but the link is now dead.
My Windows 10 PC used to allow me to import only new photos from my iPhone but today it wants to import everything again and duplicate what is already there.
Is there a setting that prevents this from happening as sorting out the duplicates each time I back up the phone is going to be a nightmare
Experiencing duplicated notifications with certain apps, such as Twitter? I'll get the original popup above the taskbar clock, followed a few seconds later by the same notification. And both are listed in the Action Centre. But in the new Twitter app itself, only the original appears.
I've tried disabling then re-enabling notifications, also uninstalling then reinstalling the app, but the issue remains. Can't find it being reported anywhere.
