Apps :: Macrium Reflect Restore Over Corrupt Drive
Feb 10, 2016
This morning I had a computer crash . Somehow it got stuck on an upgrade . I Booted into system restore and tried to restore to earlier date. Error message came up indicating I had drive issues so I continued with the offer to scan and repair the drive. After drive was "fixed" by windows , I could not proceed with the restore by clicking on next. Its like I am getting an loop of disc errors. I went back to the restore dialog and then chose a restore point .Computer started Restoration but then had an error that indicated it could not restore due to some problem with candy crush ! I then shut down the computer . Restarted it and went thru the HP Diagnostics and everything looked OK so HP diagnostics let me restore the computer ...but this time I had to enter my password to my msoft account and the restoration went smoothly.

Trying to restore an image on to a RAID 0 SSD from stand alone version.
After loading the RAID driver Macrium SEES all the HDD's and can select images etc.
However when TARGET destination is chosen No HDD's are seen. !!!
Need fixing this --otherwise this backup software becomes USELESS !!!!.
Macrium --latest version.

I have the latest free version of Macrium Reflect. I think that I can only get support from the Macrium site with the full paid version. Since the big Windows 10 update last week, I seem to be getting errors in the backup logs. I have checked the Macruim backup logs prior to the update and they are all OK.

Been trying M. Reflect free edition on a Dell Studio XPS 8000. I did as usual and created a boot rescue CD with the PE file with no problem. Then I continued to make an image of my boot disk C and save it on my hard drive D.
Went to D and the image is there. Next I booted with the restore disk without problems, but after choosing restore, I can't find the image that was created on the D hard drive. I noticed that the naming of the drives also has changed and as such I looked everywhere but I can't find the image and as such I can't restore.

recently started using Reflect, moving away from TrueImage. I'm pretty happy with it so far, except for the outlandish price (yea, I know, free version fine for most but I like to password protect my images).
I notice there's an option to put the recovery on the boot menu, reminiscent of Norton Ghost.

I have two backup tasks that appear in the "scheduled backups" tab, and they run on schedule, but they don't appear in the "backup definition files" tab.
This happened due to an uninstall and reinstall.
How can I get them back into the "backup definition files" tab?
I still have the reflect folder in my documents, with the xml files that define the backup tasks. But for some reason, that isn't enough to get those tasks to appear in the scheduled backups tab.
Another minor issue: when I boot from the MR recovery partition, in order to run a restore, it doesn't know where to look for my backup files. I have to add the folder manually, and then it forgets again the next time.

I am in the process of creating an Image of HP Pavillion DVT7 2200 Notebook now. getting some steps to follow to restore it. The Laptop I have Macrium Reflect running on now will have the HD replaced as it on the verge of failing hence why I'm doing doing.
I have physically swapped out the old HD with new HD? I will have Macrium Reflect Image contained on the root of a brand new 1 TB External drive. start at the point of turning the PC on for the first time and if I should have the External drive plugged in before I attempt to boot the laptop for the first time.

OK here's my scenario, I have successfully used Macrium Reflect to create images saved on a 1TB external drive. I had 2 good images stored on it and tried to put 3rd image on the same drive. Please note that I have used one of save images to restore the system after replacing the failing hard drive. The create image process runs to what I think to be the very end then comes up with msg: "an error has occurred, Please see the history log for more details"
I could not find this history log, but figured maybe there was not enough space on the 1TB drive to completely write the image file. On my next attempt to create the image, I used a brand new 3TB external drive and it fails the same way. I have attached a photo of the error, where the history file is? I have left laptop up and running after clicking ok, did not want to risk losing the history file by booting back up. BTW, on the 3TB external drive it did create a temp file named xxxxxx.mrimg.temp with size of 0 kb.

I tried one again to use Macrium to backup only C:, clean install then restore only C:.
Once again it did more that I asked it to and removed the 16MB partition created by the clean install.
After clean install I had this, 4 partitions on Disk 0 (SSD):
After restore I had this, 3 partitions o n Disk 0 (SSD):
I did not run the Macrium fix boot option after the restore so when I rebooted Win 10 ran Auto repair then the system booted up normally.
Why is Macrium doing this?
Guess I'll ask in the Macrium forum and see what I can find out.
The reason I'm doing this is is Shift Restart from Power is not working, it just boots normally.
I just redid the steps in Brink's tutorial to setup Recimage, then ran reagentc /setosimage /path "locationResetRecoveryImage" /index 1
I'll try Shift restart again now and see what happens.

I have recently had to re-install Windows 10 and had problems before so decided this time to do a clean install and then run the system image backup. This went well but when it came to the testing of the restore a problem arose. I was using the Repair Disc created after the system image backup completed and could not understand the source file indicated was not where I had put the backup.
The restore said the file was on the C: drive which was what I was trying to restore to.

I've just followed Brinks amazing Clean Install W10 without having to upgrade guide and it went flawlessly. I'm now in 10 and have been installing drivers, updates and AV/Malware scans and setup. All done - ready to make a post install image using Macrium (which I have also used before on 7) [URL]...
I have followed all the steps (I believe successfully) and now have a separate SSD (not my OS SSD) with an Active Primary partition of 512mb. Ive copied the ISO which macrium created for the Rescue disc to it etc.
I then tried to get into the boot menu he shows in the guide and that's where Ive come unstuck. How to boot from this rescue disc on my other SSD. I'm not even sure copying the ISO to it makes it a rescue environment I can boot from.

Maybe I have a misunderstanding of how System Restore works. Yesterday I uninstalled a program that I'd like to now get back. The company that made the program no longer offers archive downloads for that program in particular. Today it occurred to me that I could do a System Restore to when the program was still on this laptop & all would be returned as it was.
The first 2 times I tried was a total fail for returning the program but when I went back to a week ago it was there. Something is missing & it errors asking for the old install software that doesn't exist anymore (the program was purchased it 2008).

I've received 5 files from 5 sources, both Excel and Word. Every time I try to open one I get an error message "File is corrupt and can't be opened." I can work on my own files, but not downloads.
I tried the Windows 10 "workarounds" but these didn't work. I've tried to download using both Firefox and Edge, no difference.

Running W10 pro...with office 365 Outlook/Excel etc...
Opening an excel file within an email gives me 'corrupt' file. If I save the file I will be able to open it up *sometimes*. I have tricked the OS into opening the file by printing from the email attachment and then clicking 'save'. Sometimes that will actually open the excel file but not always.
I even installed excel previewer for mobile and confirmed that excel (desktop) was the app to open excel files but that did not work.
This is happening with Word as well.

Bullet Points within Microsoft Office applications are not displaying correctly.
I have tried to restore default fonts settings in "Control PanelAppearance and PersonalisationFontsFont settings" and I have also downloaded all the Windows 10 default fonts, right clicked, install and overwrite all files. Now I seem to have duplicate fonts with _0 and _1 at the end of some of the font names. I've also ran an sfc /scannow command but it didn't find any issue.

Because of a problem with 10 a tech told me to revert to 10270. I backed up everything important to my D: drive first. I did a complete formatting of C:. Then upon installing 10270 onto C: I first blew away the partitions on D:, realizing what I had done just after hitting the keys.
I have run Easeus's free Partition Recovery software but it finds absolutely nothing, even in deep scan.
Is there another reliable method with which to attack the problem of restoring the partition tables for D:?

I Bought an HP Pavilion Slimline (s5310f) computer in 2010 with Windows 7 Factory installed OS. Than I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate OS.
Installed Windows 10 Pro.
I deleted Windows/OLD.
What is in the Factory Image that shows up in MY PC files ? It is also listed in System Restore? Is it Windows 10 Pro or Windows 7 that originally came with purchase.
I read somewhere that Windows 10 does not have a Factory Restore only Recovery.
[URL] ...
Is it safe to format the Factory Restore drive D for other uses?

My HP pavilion dv6000 is running windows 10 currently the 1511 version. Pc is passworded and associated with Microsoft account. Somehow it developed fault that resulted to spark on the board resulting to system unable to power on. I have a new system but I need to transfer my files from the old laptop's hard drive so I used the socket that connects internal hard drive to another laptop as external hard drive via USB. it FAILED to install the hardware. It installs as unknown in device manager. I have tried on other sockets and PCs still noticed the same thing. Hard drive is healthy..
I am almost certain this has to do with windows 10 attempts to prevent me from losing my files to theft perhaps my hard drive was stolen, something that is obtainable in earlier versions of windows. However, that's just my guess.
Meanwhile I have NOT tried connecting the hard drive via IDE socket to try booting windows 10 on another laptop BUT I tried booting it as OS on external hard drive & it is not read by the laptop
How to access the hard drive and get my files as the spoiled laptop shows no sign of coming up soon.

Question; My computer had to be reformatted because of a lock out by a hacker, can I use a restore point that I made before the hack, to restore my files? The restore points and system image are on my back up drive , I restored a couple of files from it. and the folders are there but I do not want to screw things up, as I don't know what I am doing.
