View 4 RepliesI tried to do a search but it didn't come up with much. where the Save/SaveAs/Open dialogs don't open and instead the app crashes? I've seen it in Notepad, Paint and Word. If I kill all explorer.exe processes, and then launch for example Notepad from Task Manager, the issue goes away, but as soon as I reboot, it returns.
View 1 RepliesI have the latest free version of Macrium Reflect. I think that I can only get support from the Macrium site with the full paid version. Since the big Windows 10 update last week, I seem to be getting errors in the backup logs. I have checked the Macruim backup logs prior to the update and they are all OK.
View 9 RepliesI'm running Office 2003 in Windows 10 (upgraded from Windows 7) with no visible issues.
Except that when I want to save a Word document using "Save As" it prompts me for all sorts of unsuitable locations...My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, and some random programs which somehow landed up in the "Documents" folder. None of the shortcuts I'd like to see there (and which are in the folder, because I put them there!) show up. What to do?
I'm not familiar with the UEFI boot system in W10.
View 6 RepliesThis morning I had a computer crash . Somehow it got stuck on an upgrade . I Booted into system restore and tried to restore to earlier date. Error message came up indicating I had drive issues so I continued with the offer to scan and repair the drive. After drive was "fixed" by windows , I could not proceed with the restore by clicking on next. Its like I am getting an loop of disc errors. I went back to the restore dialog and then chose a restore point .Computer started Restoration but then had an error that indicated it could not restore due to some problem with candy crush ! I then shut down the computer . Restarted it and went thru the HP Diagnostics and everything looked OK so HP diagnostics let me restore the computer ...but this time I had to enter my password to my msoft account and the restoration went smoothly.
View 9 RepliesI've just followed Brinks amazing Clean Install W10 without having to upgrade guide and it went flawlessly. I'm now in 10 and have been installing drivers, updates and AV/Malware scans and setup. All done - ready to make a post install image using Macrium (which I have also used before on 7) [URL]...
I have followed all the steps (I believe successfully) and now have a separate SSD (not my OS SSD) with an Active Primary partition of 512mb. Ive copied the ISO which macrium created for the Rescue disc to it etc.
I then tried to get into the boot menu he shows in the guide and that's where Ive come unstuck. How to boot from this rescue disc on my other SSD. I'm not even sure copying the ISO to it makes it a rescue environment I can boot from.
Whether partitioning of pen drive is required to keep backup image on Macrium rescue pen drive?
View 6 RepliesBeen trying M. Reflect free edition on a Dell Studio XPS 8000. I did as usual and created a boot rescue CD with the PE file with no problem. Then I continued to make an image of my boot disk C and save it on my hard drive D.
Went to D and the image is there. Next I booted with the restore disk without problems, but after choosing restore, I can't find the image that was created on the D hard drive. I noticed that the naming of the drives also has changed and as such I looked everywhere but I can't find the image and as such I can't restore.
recently started using Reflect, moving away from TrueImage. I'm pretty happy with it so far, except for the outlandish price (yea, I know, free version fine for most but I like to password protect my images).
I notice there's an option to put the recovery on the boot menu, reminiscent of Norton Ghost.
I have two backup tasks that appear in the "scheduled backups" tab, and they run on schedule, but they don't appear in the "backup definition files" tab.
This happened due to an uninstall and reinstall.
How can I get them back into the "backup definition files" tab?
I still have the reflect folder in my documents, with the xml files that define the backup tasks. But for some reason, that isn't enough to get those tasks to appear in the scheduled backups tab.
Another minor issue: when I boot from the MR recovery partition, in order to run a restore, it doesn't know where to look for my backup files. I have to add the folder manually, and then it forgets again the next time.
MR Home v.6.1.1081
Trying to restore an image on to a RAID 0 SSD from stand alone version.
After loading the RAID driver Macrium SEES all the HDD's and can select images etc.
However when TARGET destination is chosen No HDD's are seen. !!!
Need fixing this --otherwise this backup software becomes USELESS !!!!.
Macrium --latest version.
When I set up a daily backup, it does not occur. I can do a manual backup, and it works, but the automatic daily does not. I have daily selected, and keep forever. I have my pictures and videos set to be skipped.
When I click on advanced settings, it says the File History is on, and the correct external hard drive is selected.
When I click on System Image Backup at bottom left, it says that Windows Backup has not been set up.
When I click on Set Up System Backup, it says that Express Zip Plus has expired, and prompts me to buy it.
I never installed "Express Zip Plus", and am not even familiar with it. Why should I have to buy something for my new computer?
How do I set up an external HDD to be used for system image backups? For example, specify how many images to keep, schedule the backup, etc. also, can I use the drive for anything else other than image copies?
View 9 RepliesHad this issue now since the 1511 update, when i set my image viewer to windows photo viewer it was reverting back to the win 10 photo app, i removed the app, I even installed photo gallery as it has the same functionality as PV, it now asks what software do i want to use to open every time i click to open a image.
I have set the defaults in several ways including file type associations etc. each time it reverts, I can open the image in PV after setting the default, then i close the image and reopen it to be greeted to the which software do you want to use window,
I have a small SSD holding my OS, and a large HDD for everything else. I am trying to change the default install path to my storage drive, but when I go to settings, system, storage, I am unable to change the default install path to my storage drive (F:). Everything else (pictures, documents, music, etc.) can be changed to F:, but app install can't. I am able to manually change it while installing programs, but I would like to set it as the default.
View 7 RepliesSince i have upgraded to Win 10 i can no longer save any documents i create with MS Word.I try to save and this error messages pops up every time, and now i cant save any projects i create.
View 9 Repliessince installing Windows 10, I can not save updates to word files or anything to a folder. I've read I should change the user settings that default to 'read-only' in the system folder. I've done this 3 times. The fix doesn't work.
View 1 RepliesPROBLEM: MS Office 2013 can't save files anywhere except in OneDrive (which I don't want to use).
BACKGROUND: Win10 upgrade on Alienware 17 R2 (2015 model) from 8.1 went well - no errors. After using for a few days (normal shutdown / startups), used MS Word to create a document.
Created my documentWent to file save dialogue, typed in filename e.g. "status update.docx".Almost immediately, the MS Word file save dialogue popped back up with the same filename, but now appended with a "1" e.g. "statusupdate1.docx" and received an error message (1st clue things aren't right)Hit 'Save' and everything looks okay except the document name shown at the top of MS Word is "Document1" (2nd clue things aren't right)Choose 'File, Close' and dialogue "Want to save your changes to Document1?" pops up (3rd clue)Choose 'Save' and "statusupdate1.docx" appears as the filename -- no matter how many times I hit 'Save' the 'Save as' dialogue keeps coming back with the "statusupdate1.docx" filenameI'm forced to choose 'Don't Save' in the dialogue to exit MS WordI CAN'T save in docx, docm, or doc in any location EXCEPT OneDriveI CAN save rtf versions everywhere
ACTIONS TAKEN:
Checked the web for fixes but didn't find any that workedRan sfc /scannowRan dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestorehealthChose to completely remove MS Office 2013 and reinstall (used Microsoft's MSO total removal tool which removes all registry entries in addition to removing the files)After re-installation, experienced the same problem with MS Excel files (new problem after remove/install cycle)Checked out Microsoft's Known Issues with Office and Windows 10, but no joy - [URL] .... Now every time I use Word, it also tries to save normal.docx which it can't save, and which takes multiple steps to finally abandon saving. Since word is used by Outlook, it also means that I have the normal.docx style sheet issue when composing mail or opening attachments. Installed Office 2016 in trial mode. No change. Exactly the same problem with Office 2016 as Office 2013.
I am trying to add an email address from an existing email from the Windows 10 Mail app to the Windows 10 People app. I click the email adress, click OPEN CONTACT, click SAVE. It does not save. Instead, it opens my list of contacts and asks me to "Choose a contact". I have to be able to save new contacts from my emails I receive.
View 9 RepliesI installed Win10 when the upgrade became available...all seemed well until recently. I am using Office 2007 and when i try to save documents, ie; excel or word, i am told i am unable to save to the document folders or previous .xls folders that i had created. The system will let me save the file to the desktop...then i have to drag and drop into the designated folders...with a prompt telling me that i need admin privileges. What gives with this?
View 9 RepliesI am in the process of creating an Image of HP Pavillion DVT7 2200 Notebook now. getting some steps to follow to restore it. The Laptop I have Macrium Reflect running on now will have the HD replaced as it on the verge of failing hence why I'm doing doing.
I have physically swapped out the old HD with new HD? I will have Macrium Reflect Image contained on the root of a brand new 1 TB External drive. start at the point of turning the PC on for the first time and if I should have the External drive plugged in before I attempt to boot the laptop for the first time.
OK here's my scenario, I have successfully used Macrium Reflect to create images saved on a 1TB external drive. I had 2 good images stored on it and tried to put 3rd image on the same drive. Please note that I have used one of save images to restore the system after replacing the failing hard drive. The create image process runs to what I think to be the very end then comes up with msg: "an error has occurred, Please see the history log for more details"
I could not find this history log, but figured maybe there was not enough space on the 1TB drive to completely write the image file. On my next attempt to create the image, I used a brand new 3TB external drive and it fails the same way. I have attached a photo of the error, where the history file is? I have left laptop up and running after clicking ok, did not want to risk losing the history file by booting back up. BTW, on the 3TB external drive it did create a temp file named xxxxxx.mrimg.temp with size of 0 kb.
I tried one again to use Macrium to backup only C:, clean install then restore only C:.
Once again it did more that I asked it to and removed the 16MB partition created by the clean install.
After clean install I had this, 4 partitions on Disk 0 (SSD):
After restore I had this, 3 partitions o n Disk 0 (SSD):
I did not run the Macrium fix boot option after the restore so when I rebooted Win 10 ran Auto repair then the system booted up normally.
Why is Macrium doing this?
Guess I'll ask in the Macrium forum and see what I can find out.
The reason I'm doing this is is Shift Restart from Power is not working, it just boots normally.
I just redid the steps in Brink's tutorial to setup Recimage, then ran reagentc /setosimage /path "locationResetRecoveryImage" /index 1
I'll try Shift restart again now and see what happens.
How do I save pictures on Windows 10? My mouse does not have a right click on this system.
View 9 RepliesI'm not tech savvy nor do I pretend to understand much of the content in this forum; however, I'm trying really hard to like Windows 10 (Edge) and think I'm missing something. I came from Win7 and have spent the last three days using Windows 10. I do a lot of research and loved the fact I could highlight a word or phrase, RC on search "Google" and have instant results. In addition, if I wanted to save something to the desktop....RC and save to desktop...very simple. Am I correct in thinking I now need several convoluted steps to get the same things done if I can do them at all? I know I can use a different search engine and get the job done but Edge is reputed to be faster.
