I used to have a gadget on my desktop that would open and close my dvd drive which was very convenient for me as I can't easily reach the button while sitting in my chair (and if I stretch, I CAN take out or put in a disc),Is there an app in Windows 10 will do that?
All my apps open momentarily and then close. The only exception seems to be the browsers. I can go through file explorer and open the files that way, but not by clicking on the desktop app boxes.
I have this weird issue that started when I upgraded to Windows 10. Whenever I open a program or in some cases an explorer window my mouse will freeze up for about half a second, as if the hard drive is bottle necked very briefly. I have two drives in my laptop, an SSD and a regular 750 GB hard drive. My mouse will freeze regardless of the drive that the program that is being opened is located on. This also occurs with a few specific explorer and Windows related tasks.
For example, when closing the task manager or emptying the recycling bin, the mouse does this freezing action, and while this is not a super serious issue it is rather irritating and sometimes the mouse will freeze even if there is no warrant for it. I could be simply browsing the web and it will lock up for a second. Looking at the task manager, there the HDD activity only goes up to 40-50% in some cases, so it is very annoying since there seems to be no apparent cause for this behaviour.
I have no reason to believe my drives are failing since they both check out just fine in benchmark and diagnostic programs such as AS SSD, CrystalDiskInfo and HDTune, I'm just really eager to know what could cause these mini mouse freezes. I don't believe it's a total system lock up since I could be playing music in the background and the music won't stop playing.
I just downloaded Windows 10 yesterday night and after using it for the first time this morning, I decided to try out Microsoft Edge. Whenever I open it from the app section or the bottom tab section, it shuts down automatically after two seconds. I don't so much as get an error message, it just closes as if I pressed the close button. However, when I ask Cortana to open up some sort of search, then the window works and stays open.
I have opened the builtin admn by changing the cmd to sethc so whenever i press shift 5 times at login it opens the cmd for me to type the net user admin /active:yes command but my question is i open taskmgr with the cmd I mentioned before I run programs from "run new task" command the programs opens but close automatically after a few minutes. How to make it not closing itself?
So, for the past 2 days my pc is displaying an unusual behaviour. Every installer that I download does not work.
Some programs like uTorrent or Dolphin or Hijackthis don't work. I have tried compatibility, I have tried running them as admin. And nothing worked.
Funny thing is, they run normally when I boot my pc in safemode. I have researched throughout the internet and I haven't found a similar problem nor solution.
If I access them through the cmd console, they run normally. Go figure.
Windows Store apps close sometimes when resuming from sleep? It doesn't happen all of the time, but on my Lenovo Yoga 2 pro, its often enough to notice. Its probably supposed to be similar to how Windows 8 would tombstone apps, but this seems a little more aggressive since its not suspending them . Its most annoying when Edge shuts down because its closing all of the tabs too and doesn't resume them when its reopened.
My main problem is programs suddenly close. When using a browser (Firefox or Chrome) the program will close. Approx every 3-5 minutes. However, there are times it will stay open for significantly longer. I've tried using Firefox with Addons disabled and still forced closing.
I have experienced this as well with another program I use for my ip cameras, Blue Iris. However, it only happens during playback, never when the program is open and either recording or ready to record.
Don't know if this relates, but I'm having a problem with my video card having an error every few minutes. "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". I've updated the driver from AMD's website, but still erroring. Then went to AMD and ran their program for completely removing the driver and reinstalled the driver. Fyi, after this driver, they aren't going to support this gpu any longer. AMD HD Radeon 6670
A bit of background, in approx late July, I received the invite to update to W10, ran the test to verify everything was okay. Upgraded. Ran W10 for a few days without errors, then did a fresh install. I shutdown every morning.
Dell XPS 8300 from 2011. PS, I had to type this question in Notepad because the browser kept closing.
Today,my laptop was awfully slow. When I booted it up it would say "Scanning and repairing D: drive 100%" but this didn't work with anything. When I went to "This PC" to see my D and C drives, my C drive was perfectly fine and it was showing how much GB it has left (___ GB free of ___ GB) but for the D drive it didn't show how much GB it has left. When I try to open it, windows explorer folder would not respond. The green bar which shows your progress of loading the folder (I don't know how to explain) would keep going and even if it reaches the end, D drive wouldn't open. Most of my games were in my D drive and now my laptop is really slow. It takes like 1 minute for chrome to start up.
I have been using WIndows 10 since they released it and one issue has been plaguing me since then. Whenever I leave my computer and come back after some time i will notice apps are opened sitting in my taskbar. The main apps that do it are Photo and Calendar.
I don't use those apps for either photo or calendar things and I am not even signed into Windows 10 with a MS account.
But every hour or so, these apps open up and hang out in my taskbar. I have even removed them from default apps and uninstalled what I could but no luck.
I know this has been asked previously. I am working on a single user Toshiba laptop. Recently upgraded to Windows 10. Now none of the apps are opening. Tried the fix listed. There was a link to install bUT I cannot get to the Internet so I am unable to use the link provided. This machine came with pre-installed software so I cannot downgrade back to Windows 7.
I have recently installed and have two profiles on laptop. One for my daughter and one for me, both login using Microsoft account. My daughter can open app store, but when I switch to my profile it wont open at all.
All started fine on Saturday but by this morning Outlook 2010 wouldn't open, Word 2010 no response, Nitro Pro v10 no response - impossible trying to work so I went back to Windows 8.1!
I have received the free update from Windows 7 to Windows 10.My issues originally started when the start menu with the apps on disappeared I researched the internet and managed to fix this by using Powershell and copying and pasting in some instrucitons
My computer has recently done an update and I am on build 10240 and now my apps do not work at all. I wish I could go back to WIndows 7 but am over the month where it allows you to which is very annoying as Windows 10 seems very unstable.how I am to get my apps working again I have researched the internet and tried some fixes (including Powershell again) but to no avail The apps do not work - not in the start menu or in the all apps section.
When I click on the calculator app nothing happens I tried SFC/scannow and everything is fine. On my dad's user account in the same PC it's working but on my user account it's not.
Just did the Windows 10 upgrade. It's buggy to say the least. I'm having an issue where my XBOX, WEATHER, STORE, MAIL, CALENDAR, and FEEDBACK apps open up by themselves like every 10 minutes. They all open at the same time. They don't pop up on screen but appear on my second monitor's task bar minimized.
The inbuild apps like store, calculator and all the other apps are not opening. I check the event viewer for errors. I got the error with event id 10010 and the error is "The server App did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."
For the last few days, I have been unable to get the Windows App Store, or any apps downloaded from the windows app store, to be able to open. It opens the initial window and then just closes and nothing occurs. This also occurs with the xbox app...
I have recently upgraded from 8.1 to windows 10 after it finish installing I reset my computer(Via the recovery tab). I then started installing my programs and everything was going well, but when I logged in the next day I couldn't open Task Manager or the admin command prompt(the normal one works fine), my windows update also takes forever to search for an update and nothing ever happens. It seems to be something wrong with the programs that require admin(I am the only user on the computer so I have administrator functions). I have some error messages but there are a few more. Here are a few: 'This program did not respond in a timely fashion', 'The service cannot accept control messages at this time' and I will attach a screenshot of the longest one.
I had a virus and was forced to do a system restore to 5/august/2015 and when I tried to open .jpg file and "Invalid value for registry" happened I tried some fixes in PowerShell and Photos app and Store app weren't invisible anymore but had this exclamation mark...
Any way to eliminate the error messages below when my neighbor opens Word, Excel or Powerpoint.
Background: I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. All went well and there were no problems. They had Office XP with Frontpage (yes that is old) loaded on Windows 7 and it worked fine. When you opened it there were no error messages after the upgrade was completed.
About a week later they wanted a clean install on the laptop because it had been awhile since they ever did that. I do a clean install, Windows 10 Activated successfully so now it was time to reload the applications.
After we loaded Office XP on the machine we started getting theses messages at the point it was loading. Eventually you would get to the application and it was fully functional.
I put the screen shots in the picture included in this post......
When I open the Task Scheduler, I get many error messages, which mostly resemble to "Task Name: The task object version is either unsupported or invalid" along with a few "The selected task 'Name' no longer exists. To see current task, click Refresh".
One thing I noticed, the tasks were all/mostly (I haven't fully checked) outside the "Microsoft" folder under "Task Scheduler Library" based on my research into the Registry Editor. I have also deleted a few with a back up for each, but, if I try to restore the registry files with elevated rights, I get an error message: "This app can't run on your PC - To find a version with your PC, check with the software publisher". This includes the "regidlebackup" task which I shouldn't have deleted, but it does not want to be restored.
I don't think this occurred before I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7.Also, I could revert back to Windows 7, but the problem is if this issue would be solved by doing so.
I have tried listing the tasks (before the changes in RegEdit) into a text file. For privacy, I have replaced my name by "????".
test.txt
Due to no one responding after 2 days or so, I took the risk of deleting the entries corresponding to the tasks' name in the registry after having exporting each entry. So far, the computer seem to work even after a restart and the Task Schedule shows no error after being opened and the logs/windows in the middle also work.
From my guess, upgrading to Windows 10 failed to delete the old entries after re-arranging them in the registry.
