Apps :: Password Protected Programs?
Feb 10, 2016I just want to know what software is available that lets you password protect any program you want. Something that is not a password manager.

View 2 RepliesHow do I get rid of the password when I start Windows 10? I have successfully done that a few times but it keeps reverting to password protected. I have used windows+R to get to netplwiz.exe and when that didn't work, I went on to regedit and followed the directions at [URL]..... It worked initially but now I'm back to having to use a password after the computer was put in sleep mode. Why does it keep reverting?
View 1 RepliesSo I have Windows 10 and want to get rid of the password protected login feature. I found some steps on this site which are vaguely "On your windows 10 Start menu window, right click at the Win logo > select Run option > in the Run box type netplwiz > OK > follow the prompts. Restart Win 10."
Did that. On restart, I didn't need a password. Naturally, I thought the problem was solved. Nope. When the computer goes to sleep, I need to enter a password to re-open it; when it is turned off or restarted, I don't need a password.
I have a Windows 10 PC, with one of it's functions being that of a file server/NAS for my home network. I set it up with password protected sharing and a user account/password that everyone knows and uses to access it. I didn't really have any reason to use password protected sharing at the time, but it was the default so I left it.
Now I have a couple of network streaming devices that can't handle password protected sharing, so I was considering turning it off. Is there any reason not to turn off password protected sharing on a private network? Obviously I don't mind everyone on the network having access, but I was wondering if it had any other potential security benefits that I haven't thought of.
Some (3, out of maybe 20) of my installed Programs, all working perfectly well, are not listed in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.
View 2 RepliesNot all my applications are found in the Windows 10 All Apps list by the Start button. How can I refresh it, or add new apps and programs to it?
View 9 RepliesI wish to remove from "All Apps" some Programs. I do not wish to uninstall them, but just to remove them from that list.
I found that I can add here X:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu things to autostart, but thats mostly it.
As example, i wish to remove "Steam" folder and Link in the "All Apps" .... but I cannot find anything how to do, besides of a uninstall
Same goes for lots of other stuff I get from Windows as default added... Cortana, Groove-Music, Mail, Contacts, Xbox and what not. I am simply not using all that stuff and it just bothers me that i have to scroll everytime so long to get where i want.
Is there a way, an Program or something that I can hide/remove here all unwanted Links to stuff I do not use at all?
In Win7 I had such a neat and completely clean Startmenu. This Tiles are nice, but I want to have everything clean and the way I want it, and not how the OS is forcing me to have. Like Accesoire... that Point in Win7 really came down to the Stuff i am SOMETIMES using, everything else was removed. IF i need something, i can check where to find that Application via Explorer.... and well, that never happened till now
What Application I can use for a cleanup?
Following Windows 10 upgrade, copy protected DVDs will not play (I receive a "DVD: copy-protected failed" message). The DVDs that are not copy-protected play and both types of DVDs played before the Windows 10 install.
View 1 RepliesI've been reluctant to upgrade to W10 because of fear that things already installed will not work. I took the plunge and upgraded W7-pro on my ACER laptop and my fears are true. No previously installed programs installed in W7 launch when I click the link in the Start Menu, including Office.
Additionally, when I click on links to system items, like services or event viewer or run or anything, I get the following message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action..."
On the taskbar there's File Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and an email client. None of the links work when I single or double click on them. NOTHING in the start menu --> all Apps work. I click, nothing happens, not even a message. If I double click the executable in File Explorer, the program runs.
I've run SFC, created a new admin user, tried a clean boot, even reinstalled Office as a test, nothing is working, no change to the functionality. According to W10, all updates are installed.
I'm glad I didn't upgrade, or break, my main PCs by installing W10.
DVD-RW are re-writable correct? I tired to format it and it said i couldn't because of write protection is there any way I can remove the write protection on it?

View 8 RepliesGot caught by this sneaky Windows 10 downloading to my laptop. This download created a new partition on my harddrive as a protected system drive. I have tried to take ownership of this new partition with no success, I have tried to restore to a previous date with no success - it fails. How I can remove this partition from my hdd?
View 1 RepliesToday I've been setting up my new rig and I've been hitting an issue, some programs will not launch. The three main programs I've been having issues with are:
-Paint, won't start no matter what I do
-Geforce Experience, starts the launcher but wont open the main program
-League of Legends, Launcher works but trying to start the game usually wont work.
I've tried various compatibility modes and administrator modes with these and yet nothing, not even an error.
I was having some issues with my previous build (Insider), and hard disk crashing, I went and did a full wipe and a clean install.
Unfortunately, some of my programs refuse to add to startup even when the "Start with Windows" option is checked. I've tried completely removing the programs and re-installing and they simply will not start with Windows like they should.
Aside from manually overriding the situation, (which is a workaround, and not a fix), how to resolve this?
I am running a dual boot with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 being default and Windows 10 Pro x64 as secondary. I have been running 7 for a couple of years and recently added 10. Maybe I'm not doing something I was supposed to but when I'm in 10 and try to run MS Office 2010, I get an error message that states: "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application"
When I try to run programs from MS Office 2013 a window appears asking me if I want to let this application make changes to my computer. Clicking yes or no does nothing. No error messages or windows appear after that.
Is there something I was supposed to run when I installed Windows 10? Maybe a migration tool or something to that effect?
Windows 10 comes with a bunch of programs I don't need (at all)
- agenda (I use Outlook 2013)
- Mail (I use Outlook)
- Films and TV (not interested)
How could they be completely uninstalled? They might not take up a lot of space, but I don't need them.
Last night I wiped out my ASUS T100 tablet to clean install TH2. But there is a 7GB Recovery partition from Windows 8.1 that I can't get rid off using Diskpart.
View 9 RepliesI tried CMD, StorageDevicePolicies in Regedit but nothing. Still Write Protected.
View 3 RepliesI have recently upgraded from 8.1 to windows 10 after it finish installing I reset my computer(Via the recovery tab). I then started installing my programs and everything was going well, but when I logged in the next day I couldn't open Task Manager or the admin command prompt(the normal one works fine), my windows update also takes forever to search for an update and nothing ever happens. It seems to be something wrong with the programs that require admin(I am the only user on the computer so I have administrator functions). I have some error messages but there are a few more. Here are a few: 'This program did not respond in a timely fashion', 'The service cannot accept control messages at this time' and I will attach a screenshot of the longest one.
View 2 RepliesIs there a way I can put my most used programs on the left side of the start menu? I tried doing it using the Most Used function; and then simply hiding the applications I dont want listed. But this function only lists Microsoft Store apps, and not programs I've installed myself.
View 9 RepliesI have passed from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I remember that on the windows 7 i could drag and drop in the start menu
all the programs i use mostly and in the mean time i could sorted the alphabetically.
I would like to have the same on Windows 10 but i cannot sort it out. How you can see in the attached picture, the list is always empty:
the first item in the start menu is "all apps" but it opens in the left of the screen.
I would prefer to make it bigger or even full screen like in Windows 8 so that you can see them all a-z, can I do that?
I have tried enabling full screen start menu - but it didnt change the all apps from being in the left side of the screen..
Not all the programs I have installed appear on the start menu (all apps).
Even if I right click the relevant exe file (from file explorer) and select pin to start menu it does not appear.
If I select pin to taskbar that works!
I downloaded an app from the app store. (Flipbook) I can't find it. I looked in my list of apps and it isn't there. I would like to add it to the start menu but I don't know how to find it.
View 2 RepliesI have a program xyz which has installed and put a short-cut on the desktop.
I have drilled down to C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms and 'yes'... there are my programs, but they do not appear in All Apps listing.
Since I do not want to have the shortcut on my desktop, I want to be able to get to it through All Apps, I am a bit non-plussed, never had this problem with W7.
My HP Desktop computer came with windows 8.1 and several additional programs.
I have installed windows 10 and the programs and apps were still there.
Since I have done a refresh I have lost the HP installed programs and the apps.
On the desk top the program and app icons are monochrome.
