Why do programs like Paint and Photoshop take FOREVER to load? It's not like my computer slows down as they are loading either. My computer is running well without any issues, but this is still a problem. I was part of the Insider Program and I am up-to-date. Also, the Photos program can't edit any files because of their "file types." This happens to ALL file types.
View 1 RepliesI have PhotoShop which runs fine under win10 bty BUT I really like the little Photos app for quick editing however. It doesn't work all the time.
The app itself never fails to launch but with about half of the pictures that I try to edit give me the error that says "Can't edit" YOU CAN SEE A SCREEN CAP OF THIS EXACT ERROR.
Now, I have checked permissions of the files and even with photos with identical sets some will edit with no issues and the others get that same exact error message!
I have done everything I can think of including uninstalling the Photos app and then reinstalling it from the store. DID not change anything.
Yes, all of the jpg default programs are set to the Photos app (triple checked all those).
I don't know of any other software that can do this so I usually use Microsoft Paint to do this. Sometimes I want to edit out some information that are in the screenshots that I take. I don't know of any software that can securely blur out the information. I'm always afraid that someone can take the blurred images and then use some powerful software to unblur it. If I use Microsoft Paint's eraser feature, "erase" those information from the screenshot, and then save it as a new JPEG, will someone be able to recover the information that's been "erased" with Paint's eraser feature?

View 9 RepliesI installed Windows 10 last week as an upgrade from Windows 7, and the internet part is working good. But something with the file explorer didn't work. The Document, Pictures, Music, and Video files are still there, but the thumbnails load slowly, or not at all. If it means anything, there's a green bar that slowly moves across the top of the screen.

View 8 RepliesI'm using an Intel SSD 240GB 520 series. Always loading very fast, i.e., about 8 seconds from cold boot.
Since windows 10 is installed, boot time is about 20 seconds and desktop icons take some time to refresh and load their images.
Regarding the boot time: I've narrowed it down the an unexplained read/write access on my external HDD eSATA which is used for backups, though currently all backup process are stopped.
When I remove / turn off my external HDD, boot time is about 8 seconds. I can't figure out why all of a sudden it required this access to this HDD.
As for the slow icon refresh.. how to fix this.

In the past few weeks I have had stuff just dispear from my computer everything from important documents to programs being uninstalled without permission Shortcuts and file association...
I have done several scans for virus, malware and general crapware using Sybot S&D AdAware, Avast!, Avira, Norton, McAffee, MalwareBytes, and they all come up clean for that crap....
Still getting used to the changes from Windows 7.
Why has Paint been removed from my apps list? I have it on my computer but the only way to find it is to search for it.
I simply want it either in my Apps or on my desktop.
I've notice that Paint on my pc doesn't have a Text option. I don't know if it's hidden somewhere or if it's just not there.
View 1 RepliesNormally when i use the net all is fine. Noticed today when i run a video convertor programme in the background the loading of web pages is extremely slow. Stop Freemake video convertor and page loading is normal speed. I assumed it was memory, did memtest and no errors found. CPU monitor sits on 100%. Had similar problem with Villisoft last week. Time for a new CPU methinks but having said that would 100% cpu usage slow down webpage loading to that degree.

It would load my desktop slowly or freeze if I leave it the I see the mouse with the loading icon and it will load for an hour. I try restarting multi times. I also went into safe mode and it loads fine I disabled all my auto start up programs and tried logging in normally and still takes the same amount of time. This hasn't happened since a month or two ago.. I also tried turning off the fast boot thing.Also I want to try reinstalling windows ten how can I go about doing so if I don't own the disc becasue the upgrade offer. I can only use my pc in safe mode as its not starting up correctly.

Have used defender which did find something on my wifes user and cleaned it and then nothing after or on MWB . PC is generally running as fast as ever and fibre is coming in at 40/20mb .
I upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10 on my desktop computer. When I restart windows the boot went well, after that, a blue loading screen with a loading circle in the middle take too much time to load. It takes around 5-7 minutes before the Login appears (the login where you enter your password).
Is there a way to fix it and to make it faster? 5-7 minutes is too long. (I already have Fast Boot checked)

Ok so since upgrading from 7 to 10 file explorer has been a absolute nightmare! Everything was either incredibly slow, didn't happen or only partially load. After enduring this to this day I have decided enough is enough and started diagnosing by limiting the startup services using MSconfig.
After going through enabling startup services groups at the time and restarting the computer everytime! Eventually I found the service that was causing the problems with file explorer. The service is called Windows search and once disabled it restored functionality to file explorer. The search function in file explorer works but the search in the taskbar doesn't.
Step by step guide:
1. Hold Win+r to open run
2. Type msconfig and hit ok or enter
3. Click Services
4. Navigate to Windows search (you can sort the list in descending alphabetical order)
5. Uncheck tickbox
6. Click apply then ok
7. Select to restart now
After upgrading from 8.1 on two different pc's, browsers (both edge chrome) load first page quickly but subsequent pages load very slowly. I'm on wireless netgear router.

Since 2 or 3 weeks when I switch on my notebook, after loading my desktop it hangs loading startup programs.When it hangs, I can't even shut down, I have to press the power button 4 seconds to shut down.It happened with my 3 notebooks, but it remains only in one of them.This problem remains in an HP EliteBook 8540w running Windows 10 Pro 64 bits. In this notebook I had uncheck the "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" when I installed Windows 10, because it didn't shut down properly.I don't know what to do, I tried SFC and DISM tool, both found errors but were unable to correct them.
View 5 RepliesYesterday, after getting infected with malware, I decided to freshly reinstall windows 10 on my computer. However, after reinstalling it, I noticed that my bootup was very slow. During the windows logo part of the bootup, the screen flashes once, and the loading circle of dots becomes slow and low quality. Afterwards, the screen turns black for ~40 seconds, and then I get to the login screen.. And sometimes, I get that issue after logging in.

I can edit and view the tags (? these are called tags right ?) like 'Comments', 'Title', 'Authors' etc for .JPG and .JPEG files but cannot do the same for .PNG files. How do I it ?If it is not possible, then is there any way to convert 100s of png files to some other format ?
View 6 RepliesNoticed that Microsoft Edge being extremely slow in opening applications or loading web pages or is it just me? Sometimes it takes ten to thirty seconds to open webpages with the dreaded spinning circle. It would be a while before I could clean install due to lack of funds but I wonder if it's my 25/25 internet or just edge being the culprit?

One night I go on my pc to find out that it doesn't work properly anymore. I boot up normally but when I try to open any program, the loading icon appears on my cursor and after about 10 seconds my desktop crashes. My wallpapers turn from their normal wallpaper element to white plain background (the same way when a program is not responding it turns white).
Even if I am able to open a program, it will take 1 plus minute to open it, and then take another minute to close it. I tried to download drivers but it wouldn't let me because it just crashes.

I can't reinstall windows 10 as I don't have the disc since I got it for free from the windows 7 upgrade, and my windows 7 reinstallation disc is broken, so that's a no go.
Some (3, out of maybe 20) of my installed Programs, all working perfectly well, are not listed in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.
