With Win7 I used to be able to copy a recent or pinned file from any MS Office jump list by right clicking and selecting Copy from the context menu.
For Win 10 the menu is still there but when you r/c the file it doesn't appear to be in focus and consequently nothing is saved to the clipboard. This is certainly the case for Excel and Word , I expect it's the same for all Office apps. Can't find anything applicable in the usual places?
Jump List pinned shortcuts working fine on Notepad, Excel & Word, but pinned jump list shortcuts for File Explorer do not work. I click on them and nothing happens. I've tried removing them and re-pinning, but the only shortcut that works is the file explorer one. Is this a known bug or just on my Windows 10 install?
Where you open your jump list in File Explorer and then click on something like your Videos or Downloads Folder to have the jump list close like normal, but then nothing open? I also noticed that when I right click on the start button, I can't get any of the options on the menu to launch either.
So jump lists via my taskbar and windows 10, I'm not having much joy. I've just got a new desktop (Jan 2016) with windows 10 pre-loaded and I installed office 2010 - jump lists didn't work - so I thought I'll uninstall and install office 2016 64bit - jump lists still don't work....
But they work for IE and notepad and file explorer but not for firefox or photoshop elements. I've tried deleting the files from:
In versions prior to 10 one could drag and drop items in jump list. In Windows 10 it's different (but certainly not better. Why do they mess with this stuff????)
In Windows 10, if you open File Explorer, you can drag and drop the pinned folders under the Quick Access header on the left. When you right click File Explorer icon pinned to taskbar, the items will be in the same order as established in the Quick Access heading in File Explorer.
1. Recent folders in explorer jump list are not updating. They seem to be random folders from my second HDD and clicking on them says the folder has been moved (which is not true) and it offers to delete the shortcut. Deleting also does nothing, item still remains. Disabling recent folder in settings > personalization > start also has no effect
2. If I tick 'show recently used files in quick access' in folder options it also has no effect. When I open folder options after this it is unticked again.
3. I can't pin anything to quick access, I get 'parameter is incorrect' error.
Since I upgraded I cannot open my excel. It was working fine in Win 7. It tells me that I need to download Msvcr90.dll. I did and it seemed to work for Word, but it does not want to open Excel.
I'm running the latest version of Windows 10 Pro and I have somewhat of a quirky problem. My taskbar is at the bottom
of the screen but I have it expanded to 2 rows, e.g. twice as "thick" vertically as the default. When I right-click on any pinned icons on the bottom row and move the mouse up vertically to access the jump list of that particular program, the jump list
disappears. It seems to be a focus problem of sorts as if I resize the taskbar back to the default, the issue doesn't happen.
Ok I am a bit stuck here as I need to save a very large csv file to a txt file that has a certain format for it to be used in another application as an import file, I will attach the sample csv files here
My sheet will look like this
And the saved txt file needs to look like this in this format with the first line reflecting the same headings as below.
Opening an excel file within an email gives me 'corrupt' file. If I save the file I will be able to open it up *sometimes*. I have tricked the OS into opening the file by printing from the email attachment and then clicking 'save'. Sometimes that will actually open the excel file but not always.
I even installed excel previewer for mobile and confirmed that excel (desktop) was the app to open excel files but that did not work.
I've been running Windows 10 since last August, after upgrading from Win 8.1 on my Asus laptop.
I use the taskbar (launchbar?) to start my favourite programs, such as Excel, and some 8-10 files are stacked on the icon so I can right-click the icon and select/open my desired file.
That was until approximately 10 days ago, when clicking on a file name only opened Excel, and I have to do a file/open within Excel to get the file I want open. Other programs that are also on the bar e.g. my PDF program, still opens the file name I click on.
I can place a new folder or custom shortcut in the correct start menu location (current user or all users) but it will not appear in the All apps list. If I go to the folder or shortcut and right-click Pin to Start it will appear as a tile in the start menu, but still will not show up in the All apps list. I think this behavior started with Version 1511 since it was working for me in the previous version.
Since receiving a windows 10 update I have been unable to download excel and word documents sent in emails. Also all PDF files have been changed to Microsoft Edge ??
I've newly installed W10 Pro and am constantly being pestered with permission nags (see attached) while attempting to reorganise files within the Local Disk.
I've tried changing the User permissions via "Properties>Security" but encounter nothing but a load of error messages.
I upgraded from Windows 7, bypassing 8 entirely so I've never had to tackle this issue before. I'd like full access without annoying UAC-related notifications every two minutes!
I use Notepad++ to edit Python files which have the file extension .py such as "sample.py"
I would like to set Notepad++ as the default program to open .py files.
When I open a .py file I get the popup asking me which file I want to use to open. But I do not get the choice to set the default program to open this extension.
When I go to Settings|Choose Default Apps By File Type the .py extension is not listed.
Looking through the registry I see that there is no .py handler.
Q: What is the method to manually add a file extension and associate it with a program?
Outlook & Excel 2013 (not 365) cannot open emailed excel file after windows 10 upgrade. states file is corrupt cannot open. worked fine before. Had another open same file on their windows 7 it worked fine. I can open excel files that are already in my computer
I have the windows 10 ISO file on my hard drive and am trying to copy it do a DVD+R. But I get a message that tells me that the DVD has to be formatted to NTFS. When I try to format I don't have a NTFS option. Isn't there a way to move the iso form my hard drive to the DVD? If not, where can I put the file so I can save it?
I tried Copying Windows 10 ISO image file to DVD many times with free ISO burner but It failed. If possible give me a link of any good iso burner and also tell me the steps to burn the file.
Have just upgraded to windows 10 and when I try to export a csv file using excel, the file is missing columns and not formatting properly. Have tested same csv file on different laptop (not upgraded to 10) and it's working fine. What I need to do to correct this problem.
Never had a problem before in copying and pasting files, from one External Hdd to another External Hdd.
All of a sudden windows 10 will not let me copy and paste multiple files, will only let me copy and paste single files only. I have used copy and paste, Ctrl C and Ctrl V, used copy to folder and paste to folder.
I've never liked the concurrent file copy that Windows has had. I drag a season of TV over to a hard drive, drag another season over while that one is copying, and all of them copy slower and slower to all finish at the same time. I'd like a Consecutive copy rather than a Concurrent copy. Seems like a small thing, and rather than installing alternate file management programs (teracopy) I was wondering if there was a slick way to change it natively in WIn10?
When trying to copy and paste a file from File Explorer (or Desktop), my "Paste" operations remains disabled. As if the copy operation never actually copied the file. I also noticed that when I select "Cut" (file/icon becomes somewhat transparent), then moment I right click on the location where I would like to paste, the file/icon that the transparency stops, and once again the "Paste" function is not available.
The same goes for Ctrl+X/Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. This also does not work.
When I boot into safe mode the operation works however, and intermittently in "normal" mode the operation does work. It seems as if some service/driver/thing stops the functionality.
I want to move pictures I have taken with my Windows 10 Tablet to an external usb. I can copy them one at a time, but I would like to be able to select several picture by hitting the ctrl key or the shift key, but when I bring up the on screen keyboard, that does not work. Is there a solution for tablets?
