This may have been addressed already.The Start, Search, and Notification features stopped working today for the ADMIN User. They do nothing when I click on them.They are working for other users on the same PC.Haven't updated anything except Java. how to reset them for the ADMIN User. For whatever reason, only the admin user is affective.

The left-click on my Start icon has stopped working and several reboots have not resolved the situation. My Windows key doesn't work either. I cannot launch Edge either. I'm running Windows 10 Home on a new Dell laptop.
What the heck is going on and how do I fix it? I've got apps that don't appear on my desktop which I am completely unable to use now.
For what it's worth, I can right-click the Start button since my latest reboot but I can't left-click it. (On the previous reboot, I couldn't right- or left-click it.)
I need this machine working ASAP because I use it for my job and my shift just started!
I've got a system here which is acting up and I'm looking for ideas of how to resolve. Specs are:
Windows 10 Home (upgraded from W8.1)
i7-3632 8GB RAM 64bit
Inspiron 17R5720 laptop
Here's the problem: Everything works fine upon boot, but then, something happens over time, and things stop working.
Start left-click not working/Start right-click works
Notification left-click not working/Notification right-click menu shows, but open action center doesn't work
Quick Launch opens and works
All icons pinned to the taskbar work including File Explorer
Cortana and search not working - can't type in box
Speaker icon left-click does not work, right-click does
This is all intermittent, and resolved with a reboot.
Something sets it off to stop working - perhaps the screensaver/lockscreen?
Fast Startup is off, hybernate off as well.
Sometime in December, 2015 my keyboard Windows button and my task bar Start menu and Search stopped working and without the ability to START I lost all the tiles. Windows has now become very cumbersome to use.
I have given up on Windows 10 and it's too late to recover Windows 7 (Windows 7 was great). Really wish this had not happened as I have been a Windows user since version 3.1. I guess I posted this here because I'm frustrated with the problem and need to air it out. Must buy a new PC.
Clicking on this box does nothing now - how to fix this.
I have altered the Start menu to Win 7 style but that box has worked since.
So, this last update seems to have killed the start menu again. After reboot, it might work, it might not, but not too long there-after it just quits working all-together if it was working before. Same with search and Volume toggle. Dang! Mines an AMD machine which is perhaps a factor.

I restarted my computer and since then, the start menu, notifications and all apps like the xbox app and store app no longer work. I did Recovery hoping it would fix everything but didn't. What can i do?

The blackness remains, even when I pan and zoom, but the road/normal layer works fine. I have the most current & up to date OS, Win 10 Home, 10586.36 & new Dell laptop.
View 1 RepliesI've upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro. Everything is fine and Windows are working very smooth and nice. But there is one thing that really bothers me: Windows Search (including Cortana) does not find links to programs inside the Start Menu.
Now before you ask, I have re-built the Windows Indexer. Several times. I've also checked to see that .lnk files are being indexed. The Start Menu Folders (inside the c:Program Data and c:users[username]App Data) are both being selected as index locations. Actually, the search is able to find folders inside the Start Menu files, but not the files themselves.
I tried the other day to search for a program on the start menu and it worked fine. I then set up Cortana for speech mode and all I get now when typing in the box are four blue dots scrolling at the top of the search box.

-So I created a new user account, this fixed the problem for that account
-So I tried to sign in to the newly added local account with my Microsoft account and entered my username and password
-I then got a screen asking for my old password (I assume its the microsoft password)
-I got a message telling me its not correct for this device (I only have one password)
-So I left it blank (as per the on screen instructions)
-The I got an error screen 'oops something went wrong, its probably our fault' and that's it, cant get any further.
So I thought Id transfer all the files and settings from my old account to the new account, and Ive hit a brick wall, how can I do this ? the new account has no knowledge og my applications, documents, pictures, etc. I just cant install everything.
I have my Windows 10 for around 3 days now, the thing is, in the second day after my computer froze when i was playing counter strike, everything in the task bar but my shortcuts stopped working, they dont open anymore, but when i click it, the cursor blue loading circle shows up but nothing happens.

It came right after I installed a new graphics card though in the days before I had noticed strange stuff like when I searched for an app and clicked on its icon within the start menu nothing would happen. File explorer, settings etc stills works but are very slow.

It looks like Microsoft should be responsible for publishing a solution to this problem realizing how many people are having the same trouble.

I have called Microsoft tech support and chatted online five times but they have not been able to resolve the problem. Windows 10 worked alright for over a month, but then this problem occurred. I believe there was a Windows 10 update around that time.

Tried restart, nothing works. Also the builtin apps are not starting. The store app was pinned on task bar, it is also showing blank. When I try to open app from search, it tells app cannot start try refresh to fix. Nothing happens on refresh.
View 11 RepliesI got home today and went to open the start menu on my computer, but it didn't respond. Neither does the search menu, nor Windows Edge, or Groove Music or the Windows 10 video program. All of my other programs on the task bar open when I click them, and when I right click the start menu button I am given a list of options, but not ability to access any of the application that I don't have on my task bar or desktop. I tried running POWERSHELL and sfc /scannow, but it found not integrity violations. So now I am not sure what next.

View 4 RepliesNow, for some odd reason, on my computer, the sound, start menu and cortana stopped working and I can't even get past the sign in menu without it telling me to sign out so they can "fix" this problem which I've done 3 times now so I have no clue if I screwed up this computer or what.
It started with the sound first, then the start menu so I decided to restart my computer manually (which was a bad idea, apparently) and I guess Cortana just died on me when I got back on.
Also, my computer is on Windows 10 Pro Preview still.
For the second time in a row after an update my start button and task bar have stopped working. I downloaded a batch file from a forum site the last time and it worked, so i used it again. My system is now working again. As this appears to be an issue that Microsoft cannot resolve I am now going to turn off automatic updates.
View 9 RepliesI checked on the stability report last night, and I found out that the "Get Office" app has been having issues every single day.
The computer does not crash, and there was no error message. Without examining the stability report, one would never know there's anything wrong.
I uninstalled the app, and everything seems to be fine now. I sign onto Windows locally, without using my Outlook account.
I Tried to connect to my 2 other PCs this morning. I just get a screen where it says it's 'Initialising Display parameters' but will not get past this screen.
Was working perfectly yesterday! I can take control of these same computers if I try it from my Linux Ubunto PC. So that rules out the network and all of the other PCs which are still on win7
my most used App the Windows Weather app has stopped working, I click on it to open and it open and then closes again right away. Is there anyway I can fix this? Is it a common Win 10 app system fault with the app or is my PC specific that has the problem?

View 2 RepliesFor some reason; every time I try and start outlook; it encounters a problem and crashes and closes on me. Even after i use the office disc to to a install repair; it works for a short time; then the problem starts all over again. It says microsoft outlook has stopped working. This is with office 2010 by the way.
