View 1 RepliesWindows 10 is a very nice OS... But it sure has some annoying stuff... Well at least on my machine... Maybe I have a Registry setting that is set wrong... Here is what is happening...
I use a lot of txt files... But this is really ticking me off... I did not want to use the word I was thinking about...
I search for a fiIe, I find it, I click on it then and get the"What do you want to open this file" window, I pick notepad and open it, get what I need and close it...
A minute later I need to open the same file again and I click on it and the "What do you want to open this file" window opens again... Windows 10 can't remember what I used to open the file a minute earlier...
I made the txt file with notepad to begin with you would think it would know to open a file with the program that made it... If I want to open it with something else I would right click on the file and click "open with"...
But windows 10 gives you the same window when you double click the txt file or right click and click open with... I don't remember windows xp or 7 doing this...
When I boot up, reboot, Windows Notepad opens automatically with an error box "! Access Denied" - when I ok that it leaves a Notepad blank screen open. I close that and boot up is complete and I can work normally.
Cannot see anything in startup.
Since upgrading to Win 10, I have a couple of issues. Note Pad...it fills the entire screen and it won't resize. Whole screen or minimized....that's the extent of Note Pad. The calculator is the same...full screen only. I worked around that by downloading the win 7 calculator.

I hate Windows feature that enforces installing localized software - e.g. I live in Poland so if I set my location as "Poland" many apps will be installed with Polish interface, which I don't want to.
Therefore I've installed my OS in en-US version and left US as my location. Now it's all nice in terms of apps interface, as it's always English. Most programs cause no problems with one exception - Notepad...
Whenever I open a txt file with Polish national characters, I see "bushes" instead of them. I tried to open them as UFT-8 encoded, but it hasn't worked. I've changed Notepad default font into CE encoding - no effect.
I tend to believe the default Notepad encoding is set to westerns somewhere, but I can't figure where to look for the appropriate setting - how to change it, so txt files displayed correctly?
any way to remove blue color ?
View 3 RepliesNormally, if I have notepad open, I would be able to click and drag an appropriate file into notepad, like a txt file, and it would open in notepad. Now, when I click and drag files into notepad, nothing happens.

;notepad[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shell]@=""notepad.exe %1""[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shellopen]
@="Open &With Notepad"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shellopencommand]@="notepad.exe %1"
The above don't seem to give me open with notepad in context menu unlike in win7.
Can't delete a word in notepad, issue is still persisting since the upgrade from win8.1 to win10. For Example, consider the following sentence (without quotes "Under the hood".I usually use shortcuts,so if I want to erase "hood" I won't erase by pressing Backspace key until it is erased completely. There is a shortcut in windows to erase a specific word, and that is Ctrl + Backspace. That way if the cursor is at the end of word "hood" and I press the shortcut to erase it as mentioned above,it won't,instead of erasing the word it'll just make a rectangular box in vertical positon. You can try for yourself too,try erasing a single word with the shortcut Ctrl + Backspace. It won't,it'll just make a vertical rectangular box.
View 1 RepliesI have a friend that has this problem,When he tries to print from either notepad or rich text document it says that it stops working,With no error code.
Printing from Chrome browser and Thunderbird email client work just fine. And his other computer prints just fine from notepad and rich text document.
Is there anyway to change the default 'Calibri' font that is set on opening Notepad or Wordpad?I would love to open Notepad to find the font set at something I like. 'Verdana' for example, so I can just get straight on.I know I sound lazy, but I use Note or Wordpad a lot, often dozens of times in a day, and I need to use a font I can see. I'm just sick of having to do this adjustment every bloody time!!
View 4 RepliesI have attached an image of my Disk Management screen. Disk 0 doesn't look right to me. Is there a problem here? if there is, how do I correct this? I am running W10 and the C drive is a Samsung SSD drive.
View 9 RepliesWhy the specified network password is not correct? My password is CORRECT!! It's a good password and the only password used on these computers. When I try to network from my win 10 laptop to win 10 desktop I get this error message? I went to Control Panel Networking and troubleshooted and it said I didn't have permission to network. Yet I had no trouble when I was working the same computers in win 8.1 and win 7. There has been no change in networking procedure in win 10 which worked well in win 7 and 8.1.

I have been able to "successfully" boot the CD Drive into UEFI mode to install Windows 10 onto my new 4TB SSHD, but I run into the error were it stats that the partitions are not in the recommended order, when the ONLY partitions on the disk are the primary and the "protective MBR" before it at slot 0. Now, when I am in windows for the first time everything seems fine, but as soon as I restart after doing basic setup, I run into an issue where I cannot browse any partitions (I try to open "This PC", but it acts like it is indexing indefinitely and I never see the drive listing).
It looks like Windows 10 may not be appropriately setting the order for the partitions. the moment I left my original installation on my 1TB HHD intact, so that I can still have an operating PC, and find out some info on this.
Here lately when I start my Surface instead of auto signing in like normal, I get an error saying Couldn't connect to network, please try again, or something along those lines. However, it was trying to login to a random account under my name, not my normal user account. This account doesn't appear under Users and Computers either so I'm confused. It's very annoying because my device always defaults to this account to login but it can't.

I recently upgraded to windows ten but ever since I did my computer keeps telling me I do not have the correct permissions to read/write files. I have tried to change the settings to allow the one and only account the permissions. It works temporarily but after a few days it goes back to not allowing me again. I also tried activating the built in administrator account to save files but of course a built in administrator account cannot access the same things as the original account can.
View 4 RepliesMy desktop and laptop are both running Windows 10, and I sign into both computers using my e-mail address and password from Office 365. On each computer I have enabled sharing for each drive with the permissions I want. I am not using the HomeGroup feature because I want to share entire drives, and support for HomeGroup says it shares a very limited set of folders.
When I try to access either computer from the other, it asks for my credentials and I give the same e-mail and password I use to sign in. The response from Windows is "The specified network password is not correct."
I have seen a number of posts about this message, but no solutions that worked for me. Many solutions involve entering the computer name as the domain, which I don't think is applicable, since I am signing in with my Microsoft e-mail. I tried entering the computer name anyway, and it did not work. I have also tried updating my credentials with the Credential Manager, and (when that did not work) deleting the credentials and re-entering them when asked, still to no avail.
I am using the Edge Browser, and I find sending a link via e mail cumbersome. I am using outlook 2010, is there a " Correct" or easy way to send a link via e mail and it was in IE ?

View 8 RepliesAfter I installed Windows 10 from Windows 7 I noticed that if I searched for a program such as lets say "iTunes" it won't show it to me as a program but instead it will take me to the program files. How can I make it show every program I had installed from windows 7?
View 4 RepliesI am troubleshooting an issue for a neighbor. When using File Explorer (or while on the desktop), if he tries to delete a file or folder, rename it, move it, etc. the open file explorer window (or the desktop) does not change to reflect the action unless he refreshes the windows (or desktop) by hitting F5 (or for the desktop right clicking and selecting Refresh).
View 6 RepliesI have a windows 10 tablet and the clock is constantly losing time by significant amounts. Just a few minutes after starting the clock slows by as much as 10min and eventually gets to several hours slow.
Yes, the time and timezone are set correctly in settings.
Yes, it is set up to sync with time.nist.gov
The really puzzling thing is that the bios/uefi clock is correct and stays correct. So in my limited knowledge it seems the problem must be with windows.
I'm using the bush windows tablet and after installing windows 10 my screen won't register where I press the screen in the correct place.
