Auto Repair Bootloop After Graphics Card Update

Aug 6, 2015

I am having a scary situation with my wife's notebook (which keeps our family photos) after installing Windows 10.

Her notebook is an ASUS G53JQ-A1 and the installation went through fine, except for the graphics card. The logos on screen were enormous and the resolution could not be improved through the menus.

On the Device Manager, the GPU was not even listed. The notebook was running the on-board GPU, which explains the bad resolution. Anyways, I, then, proceeded to the NVIDIA website and downloaded the latest driver, already compatible with Windows 10: [URL] ....

After the installation was complete, I had a black screen after the short boot and Asus logo. No mouse cursor.

Since nothing happened, after 15 minutes I force-restarted the notebook, only to have it go to the same black screen again. This went on for 30 mins, so I tried to hit F8 with no results.

Then the Auto Repair kicked in, but none of the options (short of REMOVE EVERYTHING) have worked so far. I will list everithing I have tried so far:

1. Reset this PC --> Keep my files
2. Advanced Options --> System Restore
3. Advanced Options --> System Image Recovery
4. Advanced Options --> Startup Repair
5. Advanced Options --> Startup Settings (just goes back to the Auto Repair main menu after a boot)
6. Advanced Options --> Go Back to Previous Build

The command prompt does open fine, but I have no clue as to what should I do there.

My questions are:

1. How do I get out of this situation without formatting the PC?
2. Is it possible that there was a conflict between the GPU driver (and all the auto-update and performance software that come along with the driver)?

Can A Graphics Card Update Go Wrong

Nov 29, 2015

I was recently playing a game and realize my graphics card wasn't running as good as I would like. Realized i hadn't updated the drivers in sometime so I went ahead and did. After restarting my computer after the updates like it told me too, my screen was pushed in 1in. on both sides and 1/2in. on the top and bottom. Along with skype and steam not opening, even though I was on it right up until I restarted my computer.

Graphics Card Isn't Detected At All

Aug 12, 2015

I recently updated to windows 10 from windows 8.1 and I have encountered lots of issues,

Firstly, my graphics card (GeForce gtx 760) isn't detected at all! Judging by the frame rate in the few games I can run, it seems to be just using the Intel built in graphics in my cpu. I can't open GeForce experience to update my driver.

Secondly, My computer is booting and running far slower than it was with windows 8.1 and a lot of programs won't open.

Graphic Cards :: Low FPS With New GTX 980 Graphics Card

Feb 23, 2016

In October I bought the MSI GTX 980 graphics card as an upgrade for my Radeon R9 280x. I presumed that I would be getting a lot better performance in games since the 980 is a much more powerful card, this was the case in some games like GTA 5 where I can run the game at much higher settings. However I have found that in a lot of other games my performance seems to have gone down, as an example I will use Borderlands 2 as I have been playing this a lot recently.

Using my old card I was getting pretty much a constant 90+FPS when playing Borderlands 2 but with my current card I am currently getting less than 60 at most times and during combat it can drop to 20's. This doesn't make any sense to me as I have not changed any other hardware other than the graphics card and somehow It is performing worse than my old card.

I understand that the CPU is one of the biggest FPS factors and know that an upgrade to that would be needed for a lot higher FPS but surely an upgrade shouldn't cause an FPS decrease.

My system specs are listed below.

Graphics Card Not Working Properly

Oct 23, 2015

I have an nvidia 860m graphics card (Lenovo Y50 Laptop with an i5 processor) and I cannot launch any games with it. I've uninstalled and re downloaded everything from the drivers to the games. My final conclusion is that something is wrong when my computer tries to use my graphics card, but I don't know how to fix it.

For when I launch Witcher 2, it says "Direct3D 9 device initialization error".For when I launch The Legend of Korra (game) it says "Error : Graphic::Startup() FAILED. No Graphic Memory".I looked at other threads, but I don't know how to reset a graphic card's BIOS.

Installation :: Download App Still Sees Old Graphics Card

Sep 9, 2015

I recently bought a reconditioned Desktop, (Hewlett Packard xw6400 workstation). It came with pre-installed Windows 7 premium and a Nvidia Quadro NVS 440 graphics card.

Once I had downloaded and installed all the available updates, I had the W10 icon in the taskbar. Fine!

But when I tried to install W10, a message told me that my version of Windows 7 was incompatible. I upgraded to Windows 7 professional and tried again. This time I was told that my graphics card was incompatible, so I changed it to a Nvidia GeForce GT610.

Following this I uninstalled the Windows 10 icon (KB3035583) completely from my machine. The following day the icon had re-appeared on my taskbar. When I tried again to download W10, I was again told my graphics card was incompatible, but although I had changed and discarded completely the offending graphic's card the W10 app was still seeing the Nvidia Quadro NVS 440 and not the GeForce GT610 which is now installed.

BSOD :: Constantly Crashing Because Of Graphics Card

Jan 4, 2016

I just started using my custom built pc started on December 26th 2015 (built in 2015 summer) because I finally got my monitor. After downloading my drivers for my video card (gigabyte amd r9 280x), everything worked fine. After downloading some games from steam, I played games from steam for like 2 days until my computer started to crash constantly when I turn on my computer (it does not crash when the computer starts but it crashes few minute later after I get into my computer). It crashes at random times, when I open files, device manager, browsers, games and even when I don't do anything on it. When I get really lucky, I could actually play games for a while but it always ends up with a crash.

Sometimes it's a BSOD but 80% of the times its vertical stripes, sometimes blue, black and white, and other different colours. Today it crashed over 10 times... and I gave up with my computer until I found out about this website.

I used whocrashed program to find out why it was crashing.

On Mon 1/4/2016 5:08:21 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:WINDOWSMinidump10416-21125-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0x42003)
Bugcheck code: 0x100000EA (0xFFFFE0005A351840, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)

Analysis above is one of my crashed event.

Video Card Is Not Compatible / Do Not Have On-board Graphics

Jul 17, 2015

I am using the MSI X99s Gaming 7 motherboard with the GTX 980 video card.I am having trouble obtaining the correct driver for the GTX 980 and the msi motherboard. What I want is the best resolution. I need the video memory to show exactly 4GB in dxdiag but instead it shows as 20000MB which is obviously a windows glitch. I have the Nvidia control panel. It is showing 4GB of vram. However the dxdiag utility is not showing this correctly. So I guess there is still some problem with the driver.

- Since I have windows 10 I need the update for the driver but that driver I installed specifically made for windows 10, has given me very poor results since my resolution has dramatically changed. I have used the Nvidia software to search for the windows 10 driver and it has found it but the driver is not very well coded. I am using DVI-VGA connection not HDMI however it should not matter because they output the same resolution anyway. The only difference is that hdmi also includes HD sound.

So I use a VGA 15" monitor. It should not be that that's the problem because even I use my banq 2024HD monitor (4K) it still happens. Maybe GTX 980 is not made for windows 10. That's why the new drivers are realy badly made?

I can roll back the windows 10 driver to the windows 8.1 one that gives me the best resolution. I can change the resolution to high so that everything looks nice and clean and the text is nice clear and small and not TOO large. When I play a game, it says that the video card is not compatible. I do not have on-board graphics.

Drivers :: Horizontal Lines Flickering - AMD Graphics Card

Aug 2, 2015

I've had a problem with windows 10 and my acer PC with an AMD chipset. I constantly have black horizontal lines flickering across my screen. It is worse when running games or Chrome.

I've had this problem before in Ubuntu when I tried using proprietary drivers instead of the default open source ones.
I didn't have this problem before I upgraded from windows 7 sp1.

It doesn't stop me using the PC but is rather annoying ^^.

I would attach a screenshot but I can't seem to get a line in a screenshot

Installation :: How To Upgrade Despite Incompatible On-board Graphics Card

Dec 28, 2015

I have a windows 7 system that I want to upgrade to Win10. The advisor says that the old on-board graphics card (built into the mobo) is not compatible. I went out and purchased a new PCI-e card that is compatible but the advisor continues to say that I can't upgrade. There appears to be no way for me to disable the old graphics chip in the BIOS.

I also tried to re-run the advisor analysis tool via the command line as mentioned in this post: Solved Cannot update to Windows 10 due to old video card - Windows 10 Forums

But the advisor still says that I can't update due to the old card.

Can I still upgrade to windows 10? If so what should I do?

Cannot Upgrade Because Graphics Card (Geforce 7300LE) Was Not Supported

Oct 7, 2015

I have a PC running Windows 7 Pro. I ran the 'Get Windows 10' app and it reported that it was not possible to upgrade because my graphics card (Geforce 7300LE) was not supported. I bought a new graphics card (Geforce GT610) and re-ran the app.

Despite the removal and replacement of the old card, the app still says I can't upgrade because the old card is unsupported. It appears that it hasn't detected the change. Is there any way to make the app 'forget' the original card? As far as I can see in device manager the driver for the old card has gone so what is the app looking at?

Installation :: Black Screen No Cursor (Graphics Card Driver)

Sep 7, 2015

I just updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Here's my specs:

Alienware M15x - R1 Notebook
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT
Intel Core2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz
(if you need more specs let me know)

So, I had problems going from Vista to windows 7 because of graphics drivers in the past, and I assume this is the same problem. What happened was I installed everything, came back and my screen was black, no cursor, with the laptop still on. I turned it off and turned it back on, and after the windows load-up it goes black again.

I tried using windows + p to project to a different monitor, but no luck. I tried a lot of different things that I won't bore you with.

Here's my guesses: My graphics driver is out of date, so once I get that up to date I think I might be good, but I'm not sure.

I'm currently on integrated graphics mode, which I think is working as well. I think the other setting is called external, but I'm not positive. I think when my battery is low and I start up my laptop, it switches to inegrated to conserve power, which is why I'm able to be on here right now.

I just downloaded & installed a driver for my graphics card from Geforce.com, and am gonna reboot, which is why I posted this now in case I can't make it back, lol. If you post though I'll be able to see it on my phone, but I might not be able to respond (I can't type sometimes - it closes my keyboard).

How To Get To Safe Mode When Having Auto Repair Loop

Jan 10, 2016

Obviously I can't click on anything or type anything because the loop is constant. I've been reading forums etc for the past couple of days for a fix for this Automatic Repair loop..nothing that would work and I notice many others the past year also never found a solution.

I burned on a dvd a Windows 10 bootup thing- as suggested by someone. That doesn't stop the loop either- and yes, I did get to the page via F12 that allows to change it to boot from the DVD etc.

System Restore Crashed Now Endless Auto Repair Loop

Apr 13, 2016

OS - Windows 10 (64 Bit)
RAM - 8gb
CPU - Intel Core i5 3.3Ghz
Vid Card - Nvidia GeForce GTX 570

Yesterday I had deleted a Word document by mistake, so I used System Restore to try and get it back.  System Restore told me NOT to turn off the PC whilst it was running, and next thing I know after it got halfway through my PC blue screened and I had to restart. Now every time I load up the PC it does the following...

It loads up to the Windows 10 icon  >  After a few seconds it says 'Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart' with the error code 0xc000021a  >   It then restarts itself but THIS time it tries to start Windows Automatic Repair instead  >  It then says 'Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC', and gives me the option to click Restart or Advanced Options.  This is where I'm having the most trouble, as the mouse and keyboard don't seem to be working at all on this screen so I can't even click any of the options.  It's like the screen has frozen/crashed  >  The only way off this is to then force a restart using the power button on the PC.

The above just keeps carrying on in a loop every time I turn on the PC now.  I still have access to the BIOS where my mouse and keyboard DO work.

Asus Vivobook S200E Stuck In Bootloop

Feb 6, 2016

So I decided I would try and put an SSD in my old Asus as it is quite slow. So before I cloned the drive I tried to reset it using the MS option in the settings. The first time it failed so I tried again and then got the same message saying it failed.

Now I am stuck in a bootloop, where it gets to the initial Asus screen, goes black and then loops back to the Asus screen.

Tried pressing F8 & F12 but doesn't get me anywhere, although Esc got me into: Please select Boot device so I think if I can just get Window 10 on the SSD and install I'll be good to go.

So I thought I would re-install W8 and then upgrade, however the guides say I will need the security key which for some reason is not on the Asus as it usually is on every other machine I have owned!
