Automatic Screen Dimming

Sep 15, 2015

I tried everything I can, but can't seem to fix it. I reinstalled windows several times (actually, seven times), trying to get an update to not install, but it still got installed. So basically, what's happening is that whenever my screen is light, it's brightness goes up, and whenever my screen is dark it's brightness goes down. Now I wouldn't have minded if it were not noticeable, but it's very distracting.

Performance :: Computer Goes Right To Automatic Repair After BIOS Screen?

Dec 8, 2015

I was trying to play a game the other day after not playing for a long time. I hadn't restarted the computer in days. The game wasn't loading properly so someone suggested restarting the computer. I decided to restart my PC. Waiting for it to restart i was met with a Windows failed to start or something like that. I clicked advanced options i first clicked System Restore and of course all the restore points i set every month were somehow gone. Because i waited and waited and waited and suddenly it told me there was no restore points found. I then tried opening up the command prompt and switching to the D: drive because for some reason my HDD becomes D in the automatic repair. But anyways i punched in chkdsk /f. I was surprised at how much it found. I then thought it might actually start now! I restart. It doesn't work. I turned off the computer last night and haven't touched it since.

P.S. I also tried Resetting. That failed too.

BSOD :: ( Preparing Automatic Repairs ) Then Screen Goes Blank 3-5 Seconds Later

Feb 10, 2016

I purchased a hp pavilion laptop a few months ago with Windows 10 pre-installed.

I haven't used it for a few days, turned it on this evening and I got a message on boot up saying

"preparing automatic repairs" and then my screen goes blank 3-5 seconds later.

I do not have a cursor and have tried various keys and different ways of trying to bring up some kind of option. I also tried plugging my laptop into my TV to see if it were perhaps the screen that was going wrong.

Automatic Repair Loop

Sep 21, 2015

I'm trying to resolve an issue with a Windows 10 desktop, HP small form factor purchased with OEM Win 7. Windows Update suggested Windows 10 and now the machine boots to the automatic repair screen but there is no mouse or keyboard function where the option panes appear.

While I did purchase the computer myself originally, it was purchased for the use of my church group, and two weeks ago came under the care of my co-deacon and friend. So, let's just say there is no recovery media now for Win 7 or Win 10. I can create a recovery disk here at home from one of my local Win 7 systems, but not sure if that will work or not.

I'd be perfectly happy to un-install Win10 from the machine, but there doesn't seem to be a way to get to the recovery partition... all F-key options have been tried.

This is a Core Duo processor.

Automatic Login Of Last User?

Oct 20, 2015

With one small decision, Microsoft has made me decide to revert back to 7.

What is that decision? The decision, a staggeringly incompetent one, is to automatically login the previous user on a multi-user system that has no passwords.

Yes - with W10, if you have multiple users with no passwords set, the previous user is automatically logged in at startup.

Who could possibly think that behaviour is ever desirable? It's an absolute howler.

My family and I all use the same computer. We've never needed or wanted passwords - we just want our own desktops, shortcuts etc.

It seems the only way to prevent an automatic login is to make everybody have, and enter, a password. There's no way around that, apparently. Until then, I'm reverting to W7.

How do I stop automatic W10 updates? Every time I have an update downloaded thing fall apart. Either Outlook stops working (Outlook not available try again later) or my Favorites bar disappears and has to be redefined, or like now, my Adobe is all sc.... up and I cannot delete adobe files or access my adobe files when I am travelling and off line. This Windows 10 is the worst mess I have ever seen in 61 years of IT/IS/Data Processing. My next PC will definitely be a MAC.

I don't want to turn off windows update, I just want my laptop to never ever restart on its own, its a ridiculous "feature".

Disable Automatic Update From The STORE?

Jul 30, 2015

I'm aware that automatic updates via windows update cannot be disabled in windows 10 Home - does that apply to the store also.

In my Surface 3 (updated to win 10) the option to disable store updates automatically is greyed out with a message to contact my administrator (which is me!)

(I also have another win10 VM running pro where the option is not greyed out)

No Option To Turn Off Automatic Updates

Dec 21, 2015

how there's no option to turn off automatic Windows Updates. There's only the option to allow new updates to download and install automatically. And the other option to choose when you want to install the updates. But no option to turn off Windows Update from downloading updates. If you wanted to download and check for new updates manually.

Why must Windows 10 security depend on Windows Defender to run occasional scans and to protect the computer, when you have your own security product such as example Norton. Which does regular frequent scans and has more regular definition updates than Windows Defender? If you have a high performance computer. Store apps you can get and install. Most apps have lagging and crashing issues at odd times if your in a middle of a project, watching media or playing mobile app games.

Using third party themes that Microsoft provides. Particularly themes that has multiple wallpaper slideshows. Causes desktop to act up. If you adjust if you're a gamer. Adjusting the graphic settings from Window to Full Screen or vice versa constantly. It causes desktop screen to be chopped, leaving echo past activity screens that you have closed. Which then makes you having to come to the conclusion of restarting Windows to get it back to normal.

As for pc games. If you play some games that aren't Windows 10 supported. You experience issues trying to get the game to load, crashing back to desktop or even internet stability issues for games that uses internet. It amazes me how Microsoft promotes Windows 10 with full of pride of them saying in certain Outlook Microsoft newsletter promotions. That they say Windows 10 is perfect for gaming. When it clearly proves the opposite.
