I recently upgraded to Windows10, and now my system freezes frequently. It mainly happens when I am using Mozilla Firefox, but also at other times. Each time I have to do a hard shutdown. What can I try?

I just did a "reset" of Windows 10 on a previously owned PC that was given to me. It seems to have worked fairly well at cleaning up and re-installing windows 10. The first thing I did was download and install Mozilla firefox 42.0 web browser because that's the browser I'm most familiar with using. I also switch my Windows settings to "high contrast" because I have vision problems. Everything seems to work fine except in the firefox browser when I go to certain web-pages the graphics on some web-pages aren't rendering at all, and all I get are large blank spaces where there should be graphics instead.

The pc never shows anything on screen or gets to a place I can boot from disk. Switched HDs to go back to win7 but still the same. Cannot get anything on screen. Just constant boot.

I'm not sure where to post this so I thought I'd start here. As part of my office network of 4 computers I have a 2013 basic Compaq desktop computer that I upgraded to Windows 10. This computer remains on all the time and I sometimes remote into the computer using Teamviewer. About once a week the computer will disappear from Teamviewer as if it was shut down. The computer is still on but the screen is blank and neither the screen nor the computer will wake up as if it was in a sleep or hibernate state.
Now here's the bizarre part: if I unplug the power cord from the monitor and plug the cord back in, the monitor turns on and the windows login screen immediately appears. I can login and it looks like the computer is starting up again even though it wasn't shut down before.
ive updated and checked up on all of my drivers and in the scan they seem to be fine and completely up to date, and for a day after I didn't have any more problems but the problem recently started up again, and I haven't been able to open up any of my adobe apps and most of my applications without encountering the BSOD. I'm not sure but I believe I'm also having problems with photoshop being unresponsive but I'm unsure if that's possibly related? since it started up after the BSOD problems showed up
View 1 RepliesI have built a number of PC's and my latest PC crashes at irregular intervals. I have tested the memory and have a new power supply. This was occurring in Windows 7 and is still happening after upgrading to Windows 10.
It happens at irregular times and does seem to be heat based.
Windows 10 gives me a blue screen message about closing down and I have checked the event logs with out success.
My newly built computer is borderline unusable due to constant hangs - the computer will frequently pause then continue after about 45 seconds, which makes doing any work basically impossible. During the course of writing these few sentences running the log collector, and uploading the logs, it hung 5+ times. The only programs that typically are running are Word and Chrome. BSODs are less frequent, but still an issue.
This is tied to the network card, but maybe there is something else (or multiple things) going on.

So when the th2 update first became available i updated and was getting daily BSODs i went through and checked everything some were saying it was most likely memory corruption. I rolled back to see if it would stop blue screening and it did was stable for a few months. I figured Nvidia or most drivers had to be compatible by now and i wanted some of the bug fixes from 1511 so i updated again using an msdn ISO i had access to. Since then daily Blue Screens are reoccurring, I don't know if i buy that my hardware has gone bad as it's 100% stable under base Windows 10.
I can add a link to the .dmp file later tonight when i get home but for now I will include the descriptions of the BSOD.

I was remoted in from work and ran an SFC /SCANNOW it found nothing then the PC BSODd again so i can't upload the dmp file till tonight.
Beginning from Saturday while playing with crashes and freezes I might have fixed my driver problems, but upon booting up my PC the next day, I was receiving constant Memory_Management BSOD errors every 20 minutes to 1 hour when trying to play Fallout 4 for example.
When I came back from work today just a hour ago, I also received the same BSOD when I logged in, but later it just worked fine and proceeded to desktop. Weird.

Since building my new Desktop PC and installing Windows 10 Pro I have had a rather worrying issue, it has happened about 3 times since January. On each occasion I am doing simple things with the PC nothing taxing on the CPU etc... Suddenly I go to move the mouse and it will not move I assume the mouse is disconnected, but my keyboard does not produce any results either I cant be USB related as the keyboard is a PS/2 port connection.
What is stranger still is that the reset button the the PC tower does nothing, I have to resort to holding the power button down until the whole device shuts off. The reset button does work though normally it only stop functioning when I stumble across this issue. I hate restarting the PC like this because I am adamant it is not good for the lifespan/integrity of the SSD.

I get these random critical process died BSOD when I'm doing random things -- watching a movie or playing a video game. It happens during internet browsing as well.
View 5 RepliesI have read other threads on Win10 freezing after upgrades but they are very different than what I am experiencing. Just got the Surface Book this morning. It is the i7, 256 Gb hard drive, 8 Gb ram version. Without installing anything the system randomly freezes. Does it more often if using the stylus. The only way to recover is a hard reboot. I turned off BitLocker and reduced it from every few minutes to maybe 1x per hour. Looks completely random. I also changed to local login and appeared to reduce it more. Can actually use the stylus some now. I have downloaded all the updates. After reading all the problems with Win10 freezing I am wondering if it is an OS bug and not a hardware problem. It has me seriously considering taking this back to the store. I am going to try turning the blue tooth off and try it that way but without the stylus this laptop is not worth the 2400 to me.

Let me get straight to the point:Up-to-date Windows 10 install (ver 1511 OS Build 10586.36)I haven't tested it but it seems like when the computer becomes inactive after a period of time, the whole system freezes - the mouse isn't moving, the desktop remains static on the last windows that were there, the time remains static (it doesn't change), CTRL+ALT+DELETE doesn't work.
Only solution seems to be to a hard reboot.In all other aspects the computer works fine: no virus (as determined by up-to-date version of Free Avast AV), SSD runs super fast, computer reboots, shuts down and goes to sleep perfectly. It's just when I am working on the computer and get sidetracked and when the computer becomes inactive, the computer freezes.

The problem was caused by the motherboard (BIOS P1.90), it seems that does not support 8X4GB ram modules. I have removed 4 modules and the problem has disappeared. I do not think that the memory modules are defective because memtest found no error.

I installed a copy of windows 8 that I owned and then upgraded it to windows 10. It was working fine for a couple of weeks, and suddenly it had and error and is stuck rebooting itself with a blue screen error.
The error appears to be different every time but the ones I have seen repeated are "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" and "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION".
I can get into the BIOS and that's about it. I can't find a way to boot into safe mode and when I try and install a fresh copy of windows 10 via USB created from microsoft i still get a blue screen error after a couple of seconds.
Background: For the past few weeks or so I was on W8.1 on my SSD and Arch Linux on my SSHD. However now when loading up Arch I get a { DRDY } error presumably on the SSHD, and W8.1 crashed very soon after logging in. I noticed that sometimes that the computer does not freeze until I open up a game (Total War 2). TW2 had been working fine previously. I would go ahead and reset/refresh my main W10 drive but I'm not sure if that's the issue. I have never gotten a BSOD just a freeze then sometimes black screen with a mouse.
What I've tried: I consistently virus scanned with Malwarebyte's and Defender to find nothing.I hoped upgrading to W10 would fix the issue, but it did not./sfc scannowSMART check (no issues)check Task Manager/used Proc Explorer (or variants) can not see cause of disk usage spike
What I believe could be the issue: I want to say the drives are failing, but I'm honestly dumbfounded.I've read it's possible to the SATA cables.
Tried creating another user account, and so far no issues with the new account. Also added some logs, if more are needed I can add them.

I recently replaced the mobo and the CPU on this system. I am getting BSOD and/or the computer randomly freeze or restart on its own. I did run the computer in safe mode for a whole day and did not have any of the aforementioned issues.

The mouse didn't work, everything was frozen.
I restarted my PC and it froze at the spinning dots loading screen. Before that, I had a screen saying "preparing your desktop", or something like that.
I already had this problem, and solved it by leaving my computer powered on the whole night
I have been getting random BSODs, sometimes they happened 3-4 times a day and sometimes I will not have one for 3-4 days. View 9 RepliesI recently did a clean install to get Windows 10, but I'm getting two issues atm. The major one is a freeze crash where the computer will freeze, and the have the audio go really slow, robotic or at other times it will stutter/repeat. Sometimes the screen will also go black. It started happening around once per a day after I installed Windows 10. The only way to get out of it is to restart the computer, but when I restart it, the computer doesn't get past the windows loading screen. But on the 2nd restart after manually pressing the power button, it finally goes back to normal and boots up properly. It's happened around 4-5 times already since I installed Windows 10 a week ago.
The second issue might be related but around once a day, my screen turns black and I get a notification that Nvidia driver (model #) has stopped responding and has recovered. It's really quick and lasts only 3-5 seconds, so its not that annoying. This is a issue that I've had for a while even back in Windows 7. I always update the drivers for the GTX 660 Ti using Geforce Experience from Nvidia, but it never solves the issue.
I did get 1-2 BSODs since installing Windows 10, but I'm not sure if they are related.In the dump file, there is information that says the BSOD error is a "VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR (199)" with the driver reporting a invalid fence ID. I looked it up online and I tried a solution, but it didn't work. I'm a bit stuck on what to do next. I also forgot to mention that if I press the sleep key on my keyboard and later awake from it, windows tends to slowly crash and eventually BSOD. By slowly, I mean that the taskbar starts to disappear as well as the start menu, but I can still use my programs such as Chrome to a limited degree, which is quite weird.
After maybe 10 minutes, I get a complete freeze and I need to restart my computer. After many attempts of restarting, it usually works fine if it doesn't freeze in the first half an hour. I attached the log.
