Oct 4, 2015Been having a hard time diagnosing the root of the issue I've been having with my custom-built PC. Two weeks ago, I started getting display driver crashes every time I was in a game. It would crash, then recover. This continued for a few days. I shrugged it off because I am aware that NVIDIA drivers have been having issues with Windows 10 lately. They are prone to crashing. However, a few days later and continued sporadic display driver crashes in-game I had my PC completely restart and then nothing happened. The monitor was blank. The LED's on my fans were on. I tried to power down the PC via shut down. Nothing happened. I had to shut it down by flicking the PSU power switch off. I then flicked the power back on, pressed the power button on my PC...same thing. LED's on fans were on, but the PC wouldn't boot. I opened up my side panel and saw that the CPU fan was not spinning. I powered everything down. I proceeded to take out the CPU 4-pin connector and use the other one (it was originally an 8-pin). The PC then powered on and has been working perfectly until today.
While in-game I had around my display driver crash and recover 5 consecutive times within seconds of the other. Eventually I turned the game off. My PC was normal until maybe an hour or two later I tried to launch another game. This caused my PC to instantly restart after getting past the main menu and loading a save game.
I proceeded to shut down. Used the original 4-pin when this happened the first time. It booted up, so it obviously wasn't a bad connector. Same thing. Tried a different PCI-E connector. Same thing. Then I proceeded to reseat my GPU, RAM, CPU, GPU and mobo power connectors. Well, I am now booted back up, launched Witcher 3 and no crash. Was in it over 10 minutes until I turned it off.
I was moving my PC around the week prior to the first time all this happened. I am wondering if my GPU simply got loose? My mobo doesn't have those things that snap into place, as you would on RAM slots. I also upgraded my RAM at the beginning of September.
Maybe I need a new PSU. Maybe I need a new mobo.
PC specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel i5-4590 3.3GHz;
CPU Cooler: Stock Intel;
Mobo: ASRock H81M-HDS Micro ATX LGA1150
GPU: EVGA GTX 960 2GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+
PSU: Corsair CX750;
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600MHz;
HDD: Toshiba 2TB 7200RPM;
Keyboard and Mouse: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red Keyboard + Corsair M65 RGB Mouse
Temps are all normal. I know the CX line of Corsair PSU's isn't the best. I've had this since around July (around the time I got my GPU) and I don't have coil whine. I don't plan on keeping this PSU forever, I do plan to get a better one but at the moment this is what I have. I DID have coil whine or some sort of sounds when my display drivers were crashing soon as I launched a game. But again, since I reseated my GPU, RAM, etc, it appears to be stable and launching a game no longer restarted my system.
Nvidia Driver Crashes / Then PC Restarts And Get Critical Kernel-Power
Oct 27, 2015I have been getting these nvidia driver crashes, where the monitor turns off by itself and then recovers and I can continue using it normally, but lately the drivers just crash and a few moments after, the PC reboots on its own but fails to turn on the monitor, which forces me to do a manual reboot. After the manual reboot, I go to Event Viewer and find these errors: Critical, Event ID 41, Source Kernel-Power. Error, Event ID 3, Source Kernel-EventTracing.

Aug 4, 2015After upgrading to Windows 10, my computer now restarts after I have left it idle for more than about an hour. I havent caught it in the act so I don't know exactly what it does when it restarts. I changed the update settings to notify me before restart so that shouldn't be the issue in this case.

Aug 3, 2015Whenever I hit restart or attempt to shutdown my system, it proceeds to show me the blue "Restarting" or "Shutting down" screen with the white dots going round in a circle and NEVER shuts down.
I have no problems letting the system sleep or hibernate but restarting or shutting down doesn't work. I have to resort to long pressing the power button.
Performance :: Unexpected Restarts But No BSOD
Nov 24, 2015Over the past 2 days I have experienced 4 (2 each day) shut downs and reboots. All while the PC has been idle for sometime while I'm working on another PC in the same room. Event log screen is attached but the bug check tab has no values.
The system is on a UPS and there have been no hardware changes in several months. I'm on Build 1150, V10586.11.

Sep 23, 2015My laptop keeps freezing randomly, and seconds later it restarts itself. I'm pretty sure this problem started when i upgraded to windows 10. It use to happen every once in awhile but now it happens several times a day while i am on a browser or doing anything on the computer. I barely have anything installed on it and its fairly new, i bought it earlier this year. I did a scan with AVG and nothing showed up. It doesn't heat up either. I also updated windows 10 to its latest version and also updated the AMD drivers as well. Should i try to reinstall windows 10?

Installation :: PC Will Not Shutdown Or Hibernate (only Restarts) Since Upgrade
Sep 4, 2015I have a desktop that I ran the update on from windows 7 to windows 10.
When I go to shutdown it appears to begin the shutdown process. However, after a few moments with black screens the PC shows the BIOS splash screen and begins to start windows.
If I leave the PC alone for a while, it goes to the login screen, where it attempts to sleep only to end up right back at the login.
I have tried
- Turning off fast startup - Doing this results in apple sys error on restart (I do not have iTunes installed)
- Disabling wakeup by keyboard, network devices, and mouse.
- Turning off quick start in bios
I am now wondering if a clean install is my only option, or if there is some other way of keeping windows 10... just having it work properly.
BSOD :: Random Restarts With 0x124 Dump
Feb 10, 2016I would get a black screen for a few moments, before the computer just restarts. No BSOD, no screen tearing or strange noises from the case, no indication whatsoever that it was about to restart. So I started trying to figure out what was wrong. Using Bluescreenviewer and WhoCrashed? I found out that it was a 0x124 error citing the ntoskrnl at fault. Reading online, it seemed that this was generally caused by either a thermal issue, hardware problem or in some cases driver problems.
I started updating everything I could. Graphics drivers, mouse drivers, keyboard drivers, BIOS drivers, etc. Still got the restarts. They seemed to be appearing only when I was playing games (don't use this particular PC for much else, so took a while to realize), so I decided to check thermal issues. Using MSI Afterburner and CPU-Z, I found that my CPU was never reaching any significant heat (my Hyper 212 EVO keeps it under or around 40C even under heavy load), and that while my graphics card got hot, it never went beyond 70, so it didn't seem to be a thermal issue there.I ran memtest86 to try to identify ram issues, and it came back, after a night of running, clean. I did a dskcheck /r, and while it took a bit of time, it too came back alright. In order to truly rule out driver issues, i reinstalled windows 10, and still it kept happening.
I read online that there was a chance that the power supply could be acting up. Since I had been meaning to update my graphics card, and needed a new power supply to go with it, I decided to do that. I plugged in my new PSU, and my new GPU, and it went fine for about a day or two before the restarting resumed. I tried playing with the case side open, to truly rule out cooling issues, and it still restarted. I moved the computer, and plugged it straight into the wall because I had a suspicion that maybe the extra cable wasn't giving it enough juice, but it still restarted.
I'm now at my wits end. I've tried everything I can think of. My new GPU never goes to high temps, my CPU seems to be running fine, I haven't found any ram memory problems, my new PSU can't be to blame, and so I don't know whats left.
Tl;dr
Restarts started after some inactive time. Seems to be a 0x124 bsod error
Tried the following:
-update all drivers
-update BIOS
-re-roll to previous versions of graphics drivers
-re-install windows 10
-purchase new PSU and GPU
-memtest86 came back ok
-dskcheck /r came back ok
-tried playing with side off
MSI never shows the CPU or GPU going into any dangerous territory in terms of temps.
BSOD :: Computer Randomly Restarts While Doing Tasks
Aug 28, 2015I have an ASUS Desktop PC M11AD Series computer with an Intel core i5. I am running windows 10 Home on my computer and ever since I got Windows 10, It has been randomly restarting. It will restart while doing simple tasks, like using Google Chrome, or using Skype. I have tried to monitor what apps cause the restarts, but it is extremely random. I upgraded my computer 2-3 weeks ago, and it is starting to get on my nerves. I have switched my browser to Microsoft Edge and it has been working fine.
When this occurs, my computer will freeze for about 5-10 seconds, and then it will to a regular restart. Sometimes when it boots back up it says "Windows is updating" and sometimes nothing. I have disabled auto updates on my computer and I just can't seem to find the problem. Sometimes it will freeze in chunks like 3 seconds, it works for 1 second and then 4 seconds and then restarts. My friend also has Windows 10, but his doesn't restart. I can't find out what build I'm on, and I upgraded when Windows said I could upgrade.

Jan 3, 2016Recently my PC has been restarting after around an hour, when playing any graphically intensive games.-It has never crashed when just using the internet, idle etc. Only when playing games has it happened.-I have tested the RAM, CPU, GPU using benchmarking and HDD is an SSD.-I have tried a clean install of Windows 10.-My OS and drivers are up to date.-I also monitored my temps when in game and they are running normal when the crash happens.The system will hang for a few seconds and my headphones give off a loud buzzing. The PC will then restart after a few seconds but none of the fan or component lights go off like it is losing power.

Dec 9, 2015Yesterday (12/7/15) I got on steam to play some games with a friend and about 5 seconds into starting CS:GO my computer screen turns black, and it restarts, with no error/crash message.
Earlier today I got fed up with this so I decided to wipe my computer and do a clean install of Win.10 but the problem still persists. I mean the computer runs really quickly now, but the second I play any game, or compress anything it crashes, and restarts.
How can I stop/fix this issue?

File Explorer Crashes When Right Click
Dec 26, 2015This is the first issue i have had with windows 10 ever since installing it in august. Ever since yesterday whenever i click on a file in the file explorer window it will gray out and stop working. Unlike the average hang this one will stay grayed out for about 5 to 10 seconds, my screen will go black for about half a second and than everything will be back to normal. I am thinking that this could be a virus but i have run a scan 2 times and nothing showed up. Other than the file explorer not working everything is fine. This is really weird since it only started yesterday and i have never had any issues like this in the 4 years that i have had my computer.

Oct 23, 2015Ever since I upgraded to W10, I get this problem wherein if I insert a disk in either of my two optical drivers, it would take Windows forever to read them and if I click them before they complete loading, Windows would become unresponsive and Explorer would crash. Mind you, it also happens even if the contents of the disk have already loaded. But even though the contents of the disk have showed, they all have blank white icons.I already tried sfc /scannow and they it reported no issues.

Ran Memtest86+ on each stick for 8 passes with no errors.

Ran Windows Defender Full Scan with no findings.
Ran Malwarebytes Full Scan with no findings.
It happens when I play games. I ran one 3DMark test with no issues. Ran it again and it reset as it normally does. I ran Furmark for 5 mins with no issue.
Right Clicking On Drive Crashes Explorer - 14257
Feb 10, 2016When I right click on a drive in explorer to get properties/use tools like defrag/disk checker it is crashing explorer. I have already done a "repair" install of 14257...I had 14257 installed already and essentially did a reinstall of it using an ISO image. I have done SFC/Scannow a dozen times and that isn't working either.

Jun 16, 2015I've been trying to update to the latest build for some time now, I'm currently on 9926. The update downloads fine and it also goes through the process of installation fine, up until it's time to restart the computer for the final step, that's where the problem begins. It gets stuck on a boot up loop, it loads to the windows logo and says preparing automatic repair and restarts the computer again and again with the "preparing automatic repair" message. I made an installation disc for 9926 so that's how I'm able to reset the computer but I've also made one for the latest build but I still get the same boot up loop problem. I really want to be on the latest build and I'm worried that I won't even be able to install the official release.
