I am currently running windows10 on a HP tablet. I have it in a docking station, which has a second larger screen attached.
Last night set it up, perfect movie playing on external, able to browse ect on tab. Removed it today, re-docked, no display (blank screen) on external. Reset duel settings, making tab the primary screen.
Now neither screen shows a display, both blank.
I am running windows 10 on my desktop and I have it hooked up to a TV to have two displays. I am using an HDMI splitter (2 Port HDMI Video Splitter from StarTech.com) but my Windows 10 is not recognizing the second display. The TV displays the same screen as my monitor but will not allow me to "extend" because not second screen is being recognized. What could be the issue?
View 1 RepliesI just recently upgraded from an earlier build of Windows 10 to the latest build 11099. That went okay. But the problem was when I decided to extend the system partition (as it had only 3GB free left), after rebooting to extend the partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard (it required me to reboot so it could unlock the partition). That seemed like it went okay too, but after restarting, I would get a BSOD and no boot up at all. It seems like the partition extension has messed up the boot files. I say that because a folder named "$WINDOWS.~BT" has been created in the root directory of the system drive. (Now it's drive G: because I'm on another system in another partition temporarily).
And some other folder as well:
So my question is this. Since I have all these boot files here, could it possibly be that while the partition was being extended, the software I used might have messed up those files, and now my Windows doesn't boot up?
If so, or whatever the reason for that matter, is there anything I can do to take those boot files back to where they belong?
Today I upgraded to windows 10, and the first thing I noticed was that the display on my main monitor was out of bounds(1920x1080 btw). I know the task-bar and icons on the desktop are there, but they aren't in the frame of the monitor. My other display is flawless, but the main one isn't. I turned down the refresh rate from 60 to 30 on the main monitor, and that let me see everything on my desktop, however, there is a flicker when I go over stuff. Also, I feel that there is somewhat of an input lag with the mouse.
View 1 RepliesToday I have been using my PC as usual, I got info of Windows Updates (I'm using Windows 10) I opened up the updates and restarted my PC. As the PC was launching I got no display at all. Blank screen, nothing at all as if the PC was not detected. I tried restarting PC, removing graphics card / ram then replacing them but no use.
View 1 Replies3 weeks before my AIO Desktop while trying to reset gave a WDF_violation error after that my display went completely blank. I visited service Centre he told me to replace my Mobo, so I did and got my PC today working but the service rep told me to roll back to Windows 8 since 10 had lot of issues. So while resetting my PC again it terminated and gave a WDF_VIOLATION again and after that my display went blank again. Note both the times after resetting this thing happened.
View 4 RepliesSo recently I upgraded to windows 10 at the same time I got a 4k display.When I set the display scaling to 150% on my main 4k monitor and ensuring that the scaling stays at 100% on my other two 1080p monitors, the entire chrome application is blurry when viewing on the 1080 monitors, and I cannot seem to fix this. Other applications seem to be okay.
Furthermore after the scaling change, some icons on my 1080 monitor's desktop get larger, as if some scaling is applied to them. Is there any solution to this? At the moment I have had to set the scaling back to 100% on my main monitor in order to use chrome on the smaller monitors.
My windows 10 Alienware laptop randomly blue screened and its not to shocking seeing, as all our windows 10 computers seem to bluescreen like its going out of style. but I googled the error tag and proceeded to fix it. The error was a Nvidia driver outdated and I then updated.
But I realized my background changed and to my horror was the same background as my primary PC (desktop gaming rig) There are a few ways the laptop and the desktop are connected Steam Geforce etc/Im a little concerned because I'm almost positive I have never once downloaded the same wallpaper on this laptop. and why it would steal my desktops wallpaper and replace it after BSOD I dont understand.

I am facing a problem with my laptop hp probook 450 G1 after upgrading to windows 10 ! After waking up from sleep I found a small blank white window in the left-up side . It last until the next restart pc ! I have updated windows update from setting>update & security > update windows. I have also downloaded the latest version of drivers from hp website.
View 1 RepliesI purchased a hp pavilion laptop a few months ago with Windows 10 pre-installed.
I haven't used it for a few days, turned it on this evening and I got a message on boot up saying
"preparing automatic repairs" and then my screen goes blank 3-5 seconds later.
I do not have a cursor and have tried various keys and different ways of trying to bring up some kind of option. I also tried plugging my laptop into my TV to see if it were perhaps the screen that was going wrong.
Recently I was trying to add comments to movie folders so that i can keep a brief description about it when i click on it. It was easy to add comment then i had a bit trouble to get the comment getting displayed in the details pane...after playing with the registry for a while i got that solved as well.
Now I ended up with a problem where the comment being displayed eds with just some 3 or 4 words with the remaining given in dots (...) and I get a full display of it when i hover the mouse over it, which obviously goes way in 5 seconds or so.
So what i need is to find a way to expand what ever that is shown in the details pane so that it shows the entire content in consecutive lines without being restricted to one line (without having to hover a mouse)
You might get a picture of it if you have a small details pane on the right and make it show your processor details when you open thisPC.
Whow, Win 10 seem so easy at the first installation but problems or bizarre things come out one after the others. Now, I can't move a windows unless this one has been reduce. Is it possible to get back this function has I use to do it with previous version?
View 1 RepliesI have a Dell 2305 running an AMD 64 bit processor.It originally ran Win 7.Randomly, I get an error message that the display driver stopped.When magnifier is running, its window goes black.It sometimes recovers...sometimes it crashes the system and goes into restart. AMD web site says its due to a timeout with no further way.
View 5 RepliesI have now a couple of windows 10 laptops (using hdd rather than ssd) where the system shows progress to 12% and then waits forever, maybe 2 hours or so before completing.
What is happening, but with the limited info that Windows 10 shows it is hard to estimate how long it will take. At least with chkdsk before windows 8/10, one had something to go on.
reminds me of Vista and defrag where again Microsoft thought it was an improvement to show less information.
Laptop display was turned off i.e. on screen saver, turned it on, after a few minutes screen went black, limited mouse movement and then BSOD. Please see attached minidump information.

I've been having this issue for almost a month now and nothing I have done has managed to fix the issue. Randomly I will get this error message:
After a few of these error messages it will eventually BSOD or freeze as seen here:
I will get both of these by doing pretty much any task on the computer, whether it be watching a video, browsing a site or even just sat at the desktop. However extremely interesting is the fact that this error will not appear in any form whilst playing games on the computer. It will not error or BSOD or anything. But doing any other task will do so, even if i have 1 program running on my entire PC.
Things I have tried so far:
Updating drivers
Uninstalling/reinstalling drivers
Installing beta drivers
Using 'Display Driver Uninstaller' to clear drivers
Cleaned out the PC of all dust present
Took out and reseated graphics card from motherboard
Put my 2 RAM sticks into different slots on the motherboard
Unplugging my 2nd monitor so I am only using one
Adding a TDR delay to my registry
Full virus scan
Updating my BIOS software
The only things I have not tried is swapping out hardware components as I am unsure if it is a hardware issue or a software issue as of yet.
I've noticed that the BSOD and errors become more common the longer the PC is left on. For example last night it was blue screening every 5 minutes of being active.
The error does not seem to continue whilst in safe mode as last night i spent a long time in 'Safe Mode Networking' in order to look up possible fixes. I am not sure if it does not continue because of drivers not being in use or because the quality is much lower than normal.
I was a Windows 8.1 user and I just can't get it through me that there is no button to go to desktop. When I alt-tab it only shows applications i have running I tried to enable all-desktops in the mutli-tasking option in settings.

* registry.exe in cmd with admin rights
* clicking on the main .exe located in the windows folder
I wanted to make an image of my machine since upgrading to Windows 10 and saw it kept on including my secondary drive (which has over 600 gigs of movies). I am not able to uncheck it.
I figured what the hell and disconnected the drive.My box will not boot without the drive!
I just built this machine back in December and I used a 500GB SSD for my main drive, while I have 2 regular HDD's for storage and movies.
I turned off, "hide protected operating system files" and found the folders "Boot, Recovery, System Volume information and $Recycle Bin" all showing up!
how this drive got dragged into the install, but I certainly do not want my main drive depending on it to boot.
I don't want to change ownership of the files and delete then manually either since I have a strong feeling it will kill my system.
how to go about "unlinking" these 2 drives?

View 6 RepliesI recently did the free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on my desktop. Everything went smoothly, except for the fact that Autoplay doesn't want to work anymore. I can get it to come up with the notification in the Action Center when I plugged a USB device in, but clicking the actual device name just gets rid of it from the list, and nothing else happens.
The weird thing is that this only happens in my main profile on my PC. I created a new profile recently (in addition to my main one), and Autoplay works flawlessly there. Is there some setting that got messed up for me during the upgrade?
I recently downloaded the Windows 10 upgrade and find when I switch to Internet Explorer , which I am told is included , the main page on IE refuses to load and I cant get into anything else . Is there something I should be doing to enable IE to work properly . It is listed in the Start Menu on Windows 10 so I assume I can use it .
View 13 RepliesI have my TV connected to HDMI and a small, old monitor connected to VGA on a Radeon 4600 video card. I have Kodi (multimedia player) set to open full screen when the default user account logs in and it does so on the main monitor which is my TV. I have the smaller, older monitor set up so I can still use the computer when someone is watching a movie on the TV. I have multi-monitor set to extend the desktop.
But my problem is when I open a program it wants to default to opening on the main monitor and when I open a program from the second monitor, it opens behind Kodi on the main monitor (and I have to click and drag it over to the second monitor) - so I would like to switch the old VGA monitor to be the main monitor and the TV to be the second.
Is there a way I can force Kodi to open and stay on the second monitor once I make my TV the second monitor?
Even after I got my new SSD it spedup everything but when bringing up the Download folder it super slow at adding up all the file details and icons. It's weird because this only happens in this folder while browsing in file explorer. Even my picture folder loads faster.
