BSOD :: Freezing Upon Waking Computer And Booting
Aug 26, 2015
Just to preface this I have not received a BSOD when this happens so I hope I'm still posting this in the correct location. However my laptop just freezes completely and I have to do a hard shutdown (holding the power button until it shuts off) whenever I wake my laptop up from sleeping or even when I cold boot it.
I have checked Event Viewer and I see that I have a couple of recurring errors, the first being:
"DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service lfsvc with arguments "Unavailable" in order to run the server:
{08D9DFDF-C6F7-404A-A20F-66EEC0A609CD}"
Wit the second being:
"The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start."
However I am able to boot into safe mode just fine, even safe mode with networking and everything behaves normally. I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on ...
I forgot to add that I did the upgrade from Windows 7 originally and had the problem so I figured it might have been an issue with the upgrade itself causing some kind of problem so I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro on it and the issue still existed afterwards as well.

So upgraded from 8.1 Pro. I never had any problems with 8.1 other than the occasional crash here and there, but nothing exceptional. Now every time that I try to wake the computer from sleep I get a stop message that states that it tried to write to read only memory.
I have run memtest86 overnight with 7 iterations and it passed them with no errors. I ran a burn test on my CPU to see if it was overheating, with it never going above 63 degrees Celsius even on the most extreme test.
The crashes are not random. They only happen when I try to wake the computer from sleep. However, it looks like what is causing them is random.
I have never overclocked my computer and I have never touched the frequencies with the memory.

I am using Dell inspiron laptop (pretty old one) which started acting weirdly. Upon examining, there was a problem with HDD so I had it changed.
As soon as I got new HDD installed and installed Windows 10 on it, computer started acting weird again - slow startups, random freeze etc.- but it was running ok and I was fine with it. But earlier today, it suddenly displayed BSOD and crashed when it was idle. Now to the main and the funny part, it does not boot anymore. To elaborate, blank screen appears after BIOS screen (right when the logo of windows should be displayed) and it remains blank for several more minutes before the logo and spinning dots magically appear, it doesnt disappear thereafter.
I figured, I could run startup repair or some other tool to solve the problem by booting from the DVD of windows 10. Now for this one, the logo appears with the spinning dots which disappears after a while like it should. And after it disappears, blank screen persists thereafter. Dumbfounded, I tried booting from a USB stick of Windows 8 I had which gave the same problem.

Two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.
I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.
I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen.
I'm attaching the zip file required.

I am currently trying to troubleshoot my computer as it has recently stopped booting up.
For months now, I have been having intermittent issues with BSODs, 'hardware errors' (in the reliability monitor) and freezes on multiple installs of Windows.A few weeks ago, I installed a new graphics card (Asus GT610 2GB) which replaced integrated graphics. Also, at the same time as installing the graphics card I 'refreshed' Windows 10 and installed all of the latest drivers.
All was running fine for a few days, until the computer simply refused to boot one day. When ever I try to boot now, the Windows startup screen simply hangs and never does anything. Safe mode simply boots to a black screen.I have tried to run linux live cds and Windows disks. All of which often fail to boot (they just hang on the startup screen).
So far, I have tested my ram with memtest86+ (8 passes) and hard drive with seatools (long test passed). I attach the last version I could get of the BSOD logs (the folder is slightly outdated as obviously I cannot get any logs now!)...

My pc boots up and loads to my home screen, the icons all load up but the computer freezes, I can still move the mouse around and click on icons but nothing happens. There is a constant loading symbol for my mouse cursor. I managed to get it into safe mode once and ran a virus scan and it detected nothing.

I've tried:
-Disable power from waking with my LAN, Keyboard & Mouse
-Look at powercfg -lastwake but it shows wake source count - 0
Event log shows power-troubleshooter wake source: Unknown
Event log shows this 1 second after I press sleep: "The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S5). This can result in reduced resume performance."
I thought it was because my time is syncing with network time, but I disabled the sync time automatically
I also checked my power plan to make sure nothing wakes the computer up, and I don't have automatic updates on. It's really annoying when you go to sleep and after about 15minutes the computer boots back up from sleep.

Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 Motherboard

so 2 days ago was the scheduled day for the windows 10 free upgrade. I was on vacation and didn't get to my laptop that day. So I come back the next day and my windows 8.1 computer keeps freezing and freezing and FREEZING . I then decide to reset it to factory settings and I don't see the free upgrade button next to my date in time so I think maybe I have to update to windows 8.1 sense when I reset it it reset to windows 8.0 . so I spend a whole day updating to windows 8.1 . Now its day 2 and I still cant see the free upgrade button...

I upgraded from windows 7 to Windows 10 Home 64-bit; this was never an issue on Windows 7. Basically I cannot find a way to keep my desktop in sleep mode. Multiple times it has turned on in the middle of the night, and pretty much every time I leave for the weekend I come back to find it turned on.Windows updates seem to be the issue, but lately I haven't been able to confirm this (though the notification always seems to be there when I login). I get the following when I try lastwake. My guess is that there are no details because I have Windows notify me instead of automatically updating.
I also have wake timers disabled.I thought maybe my mouse or keyboard could be the issue (though I've never had a problem with them in the past). I disabled HID-Compliant Mouse from device manager. And I unchecked the box which allows my mouse to wake my computer. After testing it out, this appears to have had no effect as my mouse can still wake the computer when I click it.

I have had windows 10 since the Insider program started but I never needed to use sleep until now. But whenever I put my computer to sleep it wakes up 30 seconds later. I have made sure that my network card, keyboard, mouse and controllers aren't allowed wake the computer. How can I stop my Computer waking up?

Still trying to figure out what it is that keeps waking up my computer from sleep.
I looked in the event logs and found this:
The system has returned from a low power state.
Sleep Time: 2015-08-30T03:12:34.409741300Z
Wake Time: 2015-08-30T03:30:51.010471500Z
Wake Source: Timer - Windows will execute 'NT TASKMicrosoftWindowsMedia Centermcupdate_scheduled' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.
What I don't understand is why is mcupdate waking the computer if Media Center was removed from Windows 10.
But more importantly how do I stop this from happening?

I have a weird error using Windows 10: I cannot change / adjust brightness at all. I have the latest updates for every drivers, programs and all, not sure why the system does this. Sometimes the screen brightness is 100%, sometimes just 50%. Not sure if the Catalyst Control Center is to blame, but I really need a quick solution, and until now I found none.

Client of mine called me this morning concerned about waking up his computer and seeing a command prompt open with the following in it ...
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10586]
© 2015 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:UsersNOTREALNAME>net use m: sclientstorage
System error 87 has occurred.
The parameter is incorrect.
C:UsersNOTREALNAME>copy /Y m:dinner.exe
The system cannot find the drive specified.Obviously I have not included the actually user account name. My client is a long-time subscriber to Norton, and I would imagine his system is as tight as Norton can make it.

I put my PC to sleep and when I wake it up, I'm getting no display on my monitors although the PC itself wakes up. I reboot the computer and encounter a BSOD "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys)"
I recently updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Nvidia drivers have been updated as well.
Uploaded zip file.

I'm getting a blue screen advising "ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY" a couple of seconds after my computer wakes from sleep mode. It's not sporadic as it happens every time.
I've downloaded the log collector and attached the ZIP file to this post. First time poster so I hope I've done it correctly!

I have BSODs after waking my computer up. Windows 10 upgraded from Windows 8.1. Waking from hibernate generates Kernel_Security_Check_Failure. Waking from sleep generates mostly IRQ NOT EQUAL.

With my new build computer, I am having serious problems with the sleep function. This was an upgrade from 8.1.
After attempting to wake up from sleep with an input, either a) the screen remains black, or b) the desktop is visible but soon after, everything freezes and no input is possible at all requiring a manual reset. The computer turns on and wakes up (fan and light).
Right now I've turned sleep off, but I'd like to have it working properly.
I have downloaded all the latest drivers from Asus and Nvidia, including chipset, LAN, Video, latest Bios, etc.
Specs:
Xeon 1650 v3
Asus X99 WS-E motherboard
32GB ECC RAM
Nvidia GTX 950
Intel 750 SSD M.2 Nvme 450gb
Samsung 850 Pro 1 TB
Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard
Asus 4k HDMI 2.0 monitor

ASUS UX303LN user. Before 3 days, my laptop started refusing to wake up from sleep properly, instead it reboots from a clean state, It is as if I am pressing an invisible reset button that starts the computer from scratch.
The first time this occured, I managed to catch a glimpse of a BSOD with a sad face, followed by a restart (unfortunately I have not managed to note down the message). After that every time I do the same there is no BSOD, the laptop just shows the BIOS posting and then it loads Windows. Event Viewer shows the same Error 41 after every reboot. Note that before this problem started to occur, my laptop barely had to start from scratch (every time I was done with working I was just closing the lid, returning in a functioning environment) for a good 2 years. I had to reboot maybe once/twice a month for the necessary updates.
Some more info:
-After crashing, the computer does NOT generate a memory dump, no matter what. I know how to setup a memory dump, however for the last 50 crashes it does not. I have tried selecting minidump instead of automatic dump without a result (the last dump was 3 weeks back for another reason). Disabling automatic restart after crash does not work either.
-The problem started 2 days after receiving the notorious KB3140743 update (that came together with KB3139907). Uninstalling the first did not work, the second cannot be uninstalled.
-Trying to alleviate the problem, I thought of changing to hibernate instead of sleep when I close the lid/ the system goes idle. For that I had to reenable hibernation (powercfg /h on) which I had disabled because I have not used it. It worked ONCE, just the first time, every other time the result is the same as with sleeping (reboot and error 41). Enabling/disabling Hybrid Sleep did not work either)
-Windows memory diagnostics shows no errors, SMART also shows no errors for the SSD
What I have tried (and failed) so far:
-Reverting KB3140743
-Updating/reverting display drivers for the 2 GPUs (intel 4400/geforce 840m)
-Updating/reverting/completely disabling intel 7260 wifi/bluetooth drivers (which are known to be problematic)
-Changing network card's "keep device awake" options
-Updating intel DPTF drivers (after seeing that they post some not critical errors in the event viewer)
-Disabling Throttlestop (a tool to manage the CPU's behaviour)
-Changing power schemes
-Tinkering with different SSD options (indexing/virtual memory etc)

a few days ago I updated my 64 bit windows 7 ultimate to windows 10 pro, and ever since then whenever I put the PC to sleep and try to wake it the PC tries to start but the screen remains black and after a while a BSOD will appear (now with a sad face on it... amusing...) stating driver_power_state_failure, it happens consistently and only under those circumstances (at least for now) I tried running the driver verifier (as explained on other posts BSOD on sleep, DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE - Windows 10 Forums) and followed the tenforums tutorial, but nothing in particular happened
I use the sleep function a lot and I cant have it like this.

Recently, whenever I wake my laptop up from sleep (from closing the lid and then opening it again), sometimes I get a BSOD.
I think it started when I updated the Intel graphics driver, so I've booted into safe mode, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and I still get an issue.
I've attached the debug files, there was a previous BSOD a few months ago that I was getting due to a Nvidia driver issue, but I downgraded to an earlier version and it's stopped it, so I don't think the issue is there.

I've been trying to fix this for a while, but I have had no luck. My sister for her birthday got a new laptop (Dell Latitude E6420 Intel i5 2540m at 2.6 ghz). I did the free Windows 10 upgrade for her, and when the computer is starting from a shut down, it goes to a black screen with the mouse, and the mouse is frozen. There is nothing I can do but hold down the power button to shut it down.
