BSOD :: System Freezing From Fresh Boot Or Sleep After Several Minutes
Sep 28, 2015
I have been monitoring for several weeks to try and find a pattern. After startup (fresh) or from sleep by Pc works fine for a several minutes or hours then just freezes!! I thought it was the sleep issue but now i notice it does it from a fresh start.
I have also tried using different browsers no different. It can happen when dragging to another monitor but it also happens when doing nothing it just freezes the mouse. I cannot recover i cannot activate Task Manager. I have reboot via pc power button.
I have latest drivers i think also Event viewer report not shutting down properly not sure if that is the crash or what. I keep loosing lots of work I am on.

I run Win10 under Parallels at MacBook. Few days ago it started to crash about 30 minutes after boot. I don't need to do anything, just wait and it will die. Usually it's REGISTRY_ERROR, but sometimes another error.
sfc shows some errors, but they don't look dangerous.
I've talked to Parallels guys and they claim it's Windows issue, not VM. Checked Win7 VM and works fine.

Yesterday my laptop running windows 10 started freezing randomly. Everything seems to be normal when suddenly computer doesn't react any more for few minutes, then works perfectly well again. It's quite hard to find the cause. Only thing I have noticed that when it freezes, disk usage is very high. Could this be my cramped desktop (basically no space left) ? I haven't installed or downloaded any torrents lately. This week my laptop was mainly used for heavy browsing and projecting continuosly for hours, some powerpoint and audiocity usage. Also my windows partition is low on space (20GB left).

I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 and had no problems for a while until I began using sleep mode. About every night or two when in sleep mode, my system shuts down. I'm not here when it does so I don't see a blue screen and appear to have no other problems. I used WhoCrashed and get this info every single time I check it.
crash dump file: C:WINDOWSMinidump100815-12343-01.dmp
uptime: 14:28:45
This was probably caused by the following module: ntkrnlmp.exe (nt!KeBugCheckEx+0x0)
Bugcheck code: 0x9F (0x3, 0xFFFFE001FD59D710, 0xFFFFD001F6446990, 0xFFFFE002062B69E0)
Error: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.his appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.
I can build computers but I suck at figuring out problems like this. All the drivers are up to date and since this started, Nvidia has had 3 driver updates that I've tried that make no difference.

I installed Windows 10 right after it came out and have had very few problems but in just the last few days it stopped waking from sleep. The power light used to flash and it would wake from a mouse or keyboard button press but no longer. The system power will come on from a press of the power button but the screen remains blank. If I remove power from the system and then repower it and turn it on it will start the BIOS and re-boot to the state that it was in when I put it into sleep mode. Clearly the hibernate process is working but something is haywire with the wake process. How to troubleshoot?

My Windows 10 (64bit) has always had issues with "page fault in nonpaged area" errors, usually when rebooting from sleep. Yesterday, my system crashed again again. Instead of booting up as normal, it crashed again with the same error, rebooted, and crashed again. My computer can no long boot to Windows.
I've searched online and have seen that it could be my RAM, so I tried running one stick at a time and it didn't work. I also tried to use a bootable flash drive (made with Media Creation Tool) to reformat my hard drive / reinstall Windows 10, but I get the same error/crash when I boot from the flash drive.
Here's my system specs:
CPU: Intel I-4790k
RAM: G.Skill RIPJAW 2x8GB
MOTHERBOARD: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150
STORAGE: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 without a problem, but after a while I thought; why not do a clean install? I went ahead and tried to perform a clean install from the windows 10 settings, and chose all drives, and a quick reset.
It then started the process, after which it crashed with a BSOD telling me something went wrong and that it would restart. After that it kept restarting, sometimes with a BSOD, sometimes just freezing on the windows 10 logo. There were different BSOD errors each time it would crash, I can't remember all of them.
Some of them were along the lines of a driver stack overrun, some were telling me system32/winload didn't exist.
We tried a system restore from USB, but there was no difference. We tried going into the BIOS menu, sometimes it worked, sometimes it froze, and we made sure that the USB would be the first the PC would boot from. Still no difference.
At this point the PC just froze on the windows logo, still trying to initialize the system reset I think. I unplugged the drives and plugged them into my laptop to check what was wrong, and both drives were wiped, with nothing left, no hidden files.
Only with both drives unplugged, the PC would give me something different, an error saying that there is no operating system, which is obvious, so I don't think it's the PC, but windows that is generating this problem.
I tried booting from USB multiple times, with a system restore on it, a windows 10 installation on it, and a windows 8.1 installation on it, since that is what my PC started with.

I've had my new computer a few weeks now and just noticed that in the task manager, under 'Processes', it says "10%" at the top of the RAM column. If I hover over it, it says "Total physical memory reserved by individual processes". If I move to the "Users" tab, the number at the top of the "Memory" column reads "10%" and underneath it shows 355MB in use (which is obviously no where near 10% of 24GB).So, basically I'm wondering if this is all normal. My first thought is that the 355MB listed is the actual RAM in use and that that is different from the amount "reserved by individual processes". If that's the case, it seems extremely counter-intuitive that the number in a column (355MB) wouldn't be the amount being referenced by the "10%" at the top of said column.

I've just built my new PC and am ready to create a system image. However the drive I want to create a system image of is 21gb and I don't have a USB that large. However I do have a hard drive, although that has things on it already so, my question is:Can I put my system image onto a drive that already has things on it or do I need to partition?

PC specs:
Gigabyte F2A88XM-D3H
AMD A8 APU
kingston v300 SSD 120gb
WD HDD 1tb
I recently built this system for a family member as a low budget media/gaming pc. This was originally setup with windows 10 on the 1tb main drive, so I know everything works. Now we decided to put an ssd in as a boot drive, and I cant seem to get it working.I wasn't able to clone the drive due to inconsistent sector sizes between the drives.
I've finally completed the install on the drive after many failed attempts but when I try to boot from it the message reads "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device".

Since I've upgraded to Windows 10, most of the time when my Surface Pro 3 goes to sleep or stand-by, most (if not all) of the universal apps (mail, edge, etc.) freeze. When I return from sleep, their windows are all completely unresponsive, except for the minimize and close button on the top right.

My build is unstable and I upgraded... 1st time around and it was for the most part stable. I had some lag issues; when system was left to idle, system would not respond or the system would take forever to perform tasks, and hardware install issues; plug and play pick up and drop. Couple of blue Screens, I run a custom build over clocked and it is my first one so I expected this to happen.
So I decided to do a clean install
System Specs (BUILD):
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Formula
Processor: Intel i7-4770K
Memory: (part number)-G.Skill [TridentX] F3-2400C10D-16GTX
Graphics Card #1: SAPPHIRE R9 290 4GB GDDR5
[Code] ....
I have updated motherboard BIOS and rolled them back.
I have manually downloaded new drivers from Asus & AMD websites for 64-bit operating system: Windows 10 as well as let Windows install threw the auto up date program, and full system lockup/crashed are consistent; lock-up none blue screen.
Regional and language match. tch
System says Window is activated.
Ran admin command prompt sfc /scannow with no errors.
On
my probably 13 fresh install config., would really like some insight into what might be happening to cause these system lockup issues, reading and posting on forms from my smart phone isn't the finest thing to do.

I have updated my desk top with no problems and have set it to sleep after an hour, however it still goes to sleep after 10 minutes. It then sits with the blue sign on screen with no account pic or sign in box for ages before going to a blue screen which flickers for a few seconds before giving me the sign in options. I have tried adjusting all the power saver options to no avail!

When I walk away from my computer, I want it to go to sleep in 20 minutes. Sometimes I return after an hour, and the computer is still awake. There's obviously a rat in the woodpile here. Some software is changing my sleep setting from 20 minutes to "Never" without my permission. Sometimes it will sleep normally for a day or 2, then suddenly something resets my sleep time to "Never".
Is there a way I can block this activity, or re-set it to the proper 20 minute setting on each startup?BTW, I had the same problem in WIn7 and Win8. I was hoping it would be fixed in Win10. It has not.

Ok, I have read several people having problems with the sleep/power save modes.
I have a similar problem. I can't keep my screen from going blank. Now what I have done is I went into the power save and sleep modes and had everything set to "never" including "none" on screensaver. Well in 5 minutes the screen goes blank but the computer, drive and my previous items & webpages are right where I left them. I also tried setting the time the display goes to sleep for 30 minutes and it stills goes into blank mode in 5 minutes. My assumption is, no matter what I set the power/save and screensaver to it still goes into a 5 min no activity screen blank.
Computer is a HP ENVY dv7, AMD A10,Quad core with 16Gb mem; 650Gb drive. Previous OS Windows 8.1. All drivers were updated to latest before update to Windows 10.

How this started So I was running on my old build just fine. I wanted to upgrade from an i7 to make streaming hurt a bit less and maybe experiment around with some server stuff. Anyway, I went to Fry's on Sunday(?) and bought everything. I got Windows installed and everything the following day (Feb 1, where the first BSOD occurs). When I installed Windows, I completely wiped my SSD and did a new install of Windows 10 Pro via USB. Installed all my drivers and thought everything would be good to go. BSOD on day 1. I thought it couldn't be too big of a deal and went on.
Where we are now Now, I've gotten 3 BSODs. I cannot get another one to happen. I ran memtest overnight and my RAM completed 48 passes with 0 errors. I know this isn't a 100% sure way to know that the RAM is fine, but it seems like a pretty good indicator. Granted, it's Patriot, which is like the lowest tier of RAM, so it's very likely I just have faulty RAM.
I've attached SSD and RAM support lists. Technically neither is on the list, but it seems unlikely that this is the cause. Other, similar, Patriot memory is supported and the smaller version of my SSD is supported.
All of my drivers are up to date from Nvidia, Intel, and Gigabyte. SSD firmware is up to date. Periphels have up-to-date drivers as well. I can't see an out-of-date driver being the issue here, although my BSODs would seem to indicate that is the case unless there is an obvious hardware failure.
What to do? I have 30 days from Sunday to take anything in for a full refund or swap. If this is a hardware issue, I'd like to go in and get it remedied immediately. If this is a driver issue...I'm not really sure what I can do. I can't get the BSODs to happen, they just happen when they do. All of my drivers, firmware, BIOS, etc. are up-to-date.
Should I do a fresh install of Windows again and work from there?

My settings app keeps freezing, but only when I select System > Apps & features and System > Storage, at least as far as I am aware of.
I am running build 10586, but already had this problem in build 10571, the first one I had as an Insider for PC.

I've been trying to fix this for a while, but I have had no luck. My sister for her birthday got a new laptop (Dell Latitude E6420 Intel i5 2540m at 2.6 ghz). I did the free Windows 10 upgrade for her, and when the computer is starting from a shut down, it goes to a black screen with the mouse, and the mouse is frozen. There is nothing I can do but hold down the power button to shut it down.

I have been having an issue for a few weeks now where my computer will BSOD or freeze whenever I play certain games.
At first I thought it was a specific game (Xcom 2) that was doing it, but it has since started happening while playing other games that didn't have that issue in the past (One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 and Sonic Racing Transformed).
I included the file as requested on the posting instructions.
Note I ran the program today, but I havent had a crash since yesterday so I am unsure if the information will be there? If necessary I can run Xcom 2 for a while to force a crash, but for obvious reasons I would prefer not to if it isn't needed.

Never once had a blue screen or crash in the years I ran 7, which is pretty surprising given the stress I've put this thing under. After upgrading, my system's locking up constantly and I got my first BSOD last night. look through the dmp for me? Looks like it's a problem with one of the USB drivers, but I'm not sure where to go from there.
