I have two computers running windows 10 and until recently they were both connected via WiFi, but recently after having problems with the WiFi my ISP told me the router should be connected to the master telephone socket.
Until they told me this the router was connected to a phone extension roughly halfway between my two computers, one downstairs and one upstairs. and it has been like that for almost a year with a reasonable speed to both computers, but just recently the WiFi speed has dropped so much it is almost impossible to use it.
So i have moved the router upstairs and connected it to the master phone socket and its so close to my PC i have used a Ethernet wire to connect to the computer and my download speed has doubled to the PC.
But one problem i have now is the other computer is now not visible on the network. so why when they were both connected via WiFi both were visible, but now one is connected via Ethernet and one WiFi they can not see each other.
Also now my router is upstairs the laptop downstairs connected via WiFi is so slow its useless. What to do i know i can get homeplugs but do they really work ...
How to solve my various BSOD events with windows 10. My windows logs are also full of critical errors.
Essentially, every few days, (I can't replicate the issue at will), after I've used my laptop (Fujitsu u904 Lifebook) on it's docking station (Network via Ethernet), when I reboot off the docking station (Network via WiFi) I get a combination of errors. These range from:
- a message saying that Windows was unable to start the The Group Policy Client
- a blank desktop with no shortcuts
- clicking on the start button doesn't work (but the windows key does)
While not all thee errors happen together, what does happen is that I'm unable to connect to Wifi and the network icon is not visible in the tray.
I know error this is about to happen, because when I power down from the docking station (I never take or put my laptop on/off it without it being powered down), I hear an error sound and then when next rebooting (off the dock), the Wifi symbol on the lock screen before entering the password has changed to the Wifi symbol with a small circle at the top left. Sure enough my windows event logs show various errors including a number listed as error No 7031,
I'm not a techie but read elsewere that if this happens, entering "netsh" & "winsock reset" from the admin screen does solve the problem after rebooting, but I'm having to do this every couple of days.
I've attached a download of my laptop's data.
I have in the past readily connected two computers directly via an Ethernet crossover cable under Win7 and Win XP but cannot get this to work under Windows 10. No specific messages, just cannot see the alternate device from either notebook. make this happen under Win 10 ?
View 2 RepliesEvery time I try to join a wifi network, my computer crash within a few seconds. It says "system service exception" igdkmd64.sys in the bsod. So I just cant connect to the internet anymore.. im on my phone right now.
Windows 10 from win7

I have a desktop PC running Win7 64Bit Ent. It's not actually in use, so nothing is connected. I also have a laptop running Win10 64Bit which I'm using to type this post. I have some audio files on my desktop that I'd like to pull off of there, and put them on my laptop, and then maybe on a cloud. My 1st question: Is it possible to simply use a USB cable between 2 USB 3 ports if I simply power up the desktop with the USB cable connected? Does the USB protocol provide for me to see those HDD's on the desktop via the laptop? I'm quite limited for physical space, and I don't need the desktop to be running permanently, I just need to get these files off of it. If that's NOT a solution, what is the next easiest method?
View 6 RepliesEver since i updated my windows 7 to windows 10, i am unable to use any of mobile's Wifi-hotspot to use internet on my laptop which i used to do earlier hassle-free.
Now whenever i try to connect my laptop to a wifi-hotspot of any of my mobile phones the laptop seems to connect with it and also shows 'Internet Access' sometimes (or Limited Access most of the times) but when i try to open any of the websites it doesn't open.
How do i connect my laptop (Win10) to a portable WiFi-Hotspot?
my store isn't connecting to server while my device is connected to my WiFi
View 3 RepliesYesterday I downloaded Windows 10 on my wife's laptop and she immediately lost access to my Brother MFC-8500 printer which she was previously accessing though a wireless network and a router. The Brother is hardwired to the desktop, which was also upgraded to Windows 10, with a USB cord and is listed under printers on the desktop as "Brother MFC-8500 USB." Could you give me the procedure and the syntax for making this printer accessible once again to the laptop? If the syntax requires the desktop's IP address, could you tell me how to find it because the tutorials on the Web still talk about the Control Panel which seems to have been replaced with "Settings."
View 6 RepliesWhen I pair laptop and Bluetooth headphones Urbanears Plattan ADV , my WiFi connection is lost I have visible network in notification area but I can't connect : msg - "Can't connect to this network". I solve problem with restarting router but that's not good.
Windows10 , HP Pavillion notebook
I am unable to connect to any WiFi connection. I've tried many adapters, different USB ports (2.0/3.0). I've even tried using the WPS button on my adapter and router. After entering my WEP key, it gets stuck on Verifying and Connecting.
I am currently using my laptop's Wifi, through a LAN shared connection. I am also able to use a Tether from my phone's WiFi connection.
I feel that something went wrong during the installation, as I had to make two attempts, and after many hours of finally getting it to work, many applications are laggy/unresponsive. I am, for example, currently unable to open up the App Store or Settings - they open for about 10-20 seconds and then close. I have a fairly high-end system spec, so that is not the problem. Forgot to mention, I have the most recent Intel LAN drivers from my motherboard's website.
I was wondering if it's possible to utilize both WiFi and ethernet in tandem. I'm pretty sure some of you are going to tell me that I can only access the internet through one of these, up to my bandwidth limit, but that's not what I mean.
I'd like to access the internet through my WiFi connection, yet have a wired connection through my router to access the files on the other computers in my house.
I was using free upgrade from windows 7. After installing Windows 10 on my laptop, I cannot connect with wifi but can with ethernet. What should I do?
View 1 RepliesThere is 2 computers and 2 virgin superhubs in the house i live in (not both mine) both ethernet connected. Occasionally i have to unplug my superhub and connect my desktop computer to the Wifi on the other hub which is in the next room.
My computer obviously "remembers" the password for the WiFi and i used to be able to just unplug my hub and it would automatically connect to the WiFi without me having to do anything.
Since switching to Windows 10, when i unplug my hub, it says that it is connected to the WiFi however it says "limited" and no websites work, effectively not connected even though it says it is.
To solve it i have to leave my hub unplugged and restart my computer and it connects instantly and works. Whilst that isn't a huge problem, i sometimes could do without having to save what i'm doing just to restart the computer as i have never had to do this before.
So I've got a simple question really when a laptop is connected to a WIFI network then a Ethernet connection is plugged in which one will it use as priority?
View 3 RepliesMy Internet through ethernet and wifi were both working fine yesterday and now nothing..
I've tried troubleshooting, Driver installs, ip config, firewall settings, and spent hours reading forums but just can't sort it.

My friend just got this computer and hes trying to connect his WiFi to it but its only gives him the ethernet option. How he can connect to wifi instead of ethernet? Its running windows 10

The same problem also occurs in reserve if you get me. Disconnecting the Wifi and then plugging in the hub, it also says limited connection until i restart the comp. Virgin Media have been of no support whatsoever, to be honest I didn't expect them to be as it seems like a computer/windows problem.
My laptop is for some unknown reason not connecting to the internet via wifi or ethernet. It will also not diagnose the problem as it says The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running and it cannot fix it.
View 4 RepliesSo for about 2-3 months I've been running hardwired Ethernet internet instead of wifi. I keep my Dell plugged into my tv. The other day I tried to move it and use wifi in another room but I have no option. When I first started with Windows 10 on release day I was using wifi with no problems and when going the Ethernet route it was always plug n play when you going to wifi vs wired.
1. Even after unplugging the Ethernet cord the symbol doesn't change to a wireless symbol the Ethernet symbol just has a little red box.
2. Tried turning airplane mode on and off as well as full pc reboot
3. Right clicking internet from the bottom right of the screen image and clicking open network and sharing doesn't give any wireless options
4. I've tried troubleshooting also with Ethernet unplugged and no success.
So just to repeat Ethernet works perfectly. Wifi used to work. My roommate who also is running the same version of Dell wifi works perfectly. Same account and everything.
The only thing I can think of is the pc updated one day as I have automatic updates and it wiped the driver maybe.
After the cumulative update on 30 Aug 2015 WiFi isn't working... Even if I connect to Ethernet port it is not recognising. What to do
View 5 Repliesi've been with this problem for months and i have tried multiple solutions offered by others on the internet, yet i'll give it another try here.
i'm using a powerline adapter directly plugged into the wall on my desktop. And it has worked excellent before, but suddenly someday it did not get a valid IP adress anymore for my pc, i have tried giving it an ip adress manually but without succes. i also tried updating the driver but there was no update.
my network and sharing center displays unidentified network and windows problem solver detects the problem 'network name' does not have a valid ip configuration.
So yesterday my internet stopped working which is ethernet to d-link hardline ac adapter to router. Xbox is connected same way and it works perfect. Tried all the usual reset/restart stuff. Keep getting unidentified network no internet. My router reads my PC so i know its connected. Updated the ethernet controller drivers to win 10. No luck. My wireless adapter doesnt work either but i hooked it up and while it connects to my router and has a good signal it will work for a few mins and than drop out.
View 8 RepliesI have a kind of big problem with 10 Pro. My problem was "ok" in 8/8.1 Pro. As title says, I would like to give WiFi priority over ethernet. Why ? You may ask, I'm using laptop as a hyper-v machine ( prepare migrations from 2003/2008 to 2012 and others IT Admin things ). I know where to change priority but Settings aren't saved. Even after setting WiFi on top of ladder, after going to the settings again it's 3'rd. That way I have no internet connection because of my VM Networks and their DNS settings.
View 1 RepliesMy desktop is connected to my router by Ethernet. However, the printer I use is in my wife's office on another floor. It is a wireless Epson Artisan 730. I have added a Dlink DWA-171 wireless usb adapter to my desktop to print wirelessly to the Epson.
However, every time I want to print, I have to disable my Ethernet connection so the WiFi connection will see the printer. Then I'm done printing and I re-enable the Ethernet (faster, more stable).
Strange issue that just started today. My Ethernet adapter shows unidentified network and none of my apps have internet access, however my web browsers work just fine. I am even making this post from the adapter that supposedly has no access. I have been searching around for a solution, but no problem seems similar to mine. Check out the screenshot below.
