Ive just got a new pc that roughly half the time doesn't shutdown correctly. It displays the shutdown screen, goes blank and then does nothing. It remains powered and the fan comes on and off when need. (Its only a small Atom CPU). Ive tried disabling USB selective suspend but that doesn't seem to have worked.
View 3 RepliesHave upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Set a desktop background as part of initial setup. Picked a photo of my daughter and used the fill option to display the image correctly on the screen. Every day, the background image gets set to a stretched version of the image(that doesnt actually exist anywhere) and I have to reset to the correct image file and set back to fill.

View 4 RepliesI have 7 or 8 computers around the house, most dual boot Windows 10 pro x64 and Linux. When you shutdown a Windows machine and start a Linux machine there are errors and Linux won't boot (The HDD's weren't shutdown properly ~ the OS's have there own SSD's && share a data drive, this is the drive that registers the error). You have to boot windows and shutdown from a cmd 'shutdown.exe /s /t 0' or similar. Is there a way to set windows to actually shutdown with the standard gui shutdown routine?
View 3 RepliesWhen I put my laptop to sleep and then attempt to wake it up, it will power on (going through the boot up screens) instead of just waking up, thus causing me to lose any information open on the computer.
I have tried a few things to try to wake it up to no avail:
sfc /scannow in cmd
unplug all usb devices before going to sleep/waking up
rollback graphics drivers
resetting power plan settings and power button settings back to default state
Is there some memory dump file to fix this?
I have tried disabling some suspect services tasks, and drivers, but nothing works. I have a couple of MiniDumps here which haven't told me much.
View 1 RepliesHere's some background; for the first few days Windows 10 was fine, no problems what so ever but then it I was just listening to music browsing the web, no games or any cpu/ram intensive stuff running and all of a sudden my music stops and then I get taken straight to my bios screen as my PC just restarts out of nowhere. As it is starting up however it shows the black screen with the Windows logo in the middle and the loading circles spinning round, then it shows a black screen and I hear the sound of Windows starting up, wait a few seconds and it says "Configuring updates" or "Configuring Windows" (can't quite remember) Anyway, as it comes back on it I get a little notification saying Windows updates were installed. Then 5 or so mintues later it does it again. Either it's coincidence or it has something to do with it but for a few hours when I was playing GTA V nothing happened for the rest of that time of my PC being loaded.
Again, I was watching an MP4 (I use VLC Player if that has anything to do with it) and it blue screens out of nowhere (I can't remember the exact reason but I've uploaded the crash dumps here [URL] .... ) dunno if the blue screen has anything to do with the random crashing
TL;DR: Windows 10 keeps randomly turning itself off without warning, sometimes going straight to the bios screen and loading back up sometimes just completely off and requires me to turn it back on.

Prior to upgrading to Windows 10, my system was running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. When running my previous OS (WIN 7) I rarely had errors listed in Event Viewer. Now after upgrading to Windows 10, I get errors/warnings I never used to get under Windows 7.
The error is of the "Critical" level in Event Viewer.
After doing a normal shutdown, and then booting my system, I check Event Viewer and always find the following critical error:
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

I never used to get this error after doing a normal shutdown (prior to upgrade to Windows 10, when I was on Windows 7). Now it happens all the time. Why this error is occurring after doing a normal shutdown followed by a boot?
I suspect it's a glitch with the first production release of Windows 10, but I have no proof of that. My system runs fine, yet I get the above error (and a number of other errors) since I upgraded to Windows 10.
My pc is still running when it somehow crashes my monitor switches off to a black screen showing no signal pc requires hard shut down to turn off sometimes even flipping switch on power supply for it to shut down. I have a verifier file to this post but im unsure if it shows the issue as the problem is not showing up as an event. the problem seems to be at random instead of being provoked I restored back to a windows update for 12/25/15 instead of before verifier to see if problem persists after a critical update was installed.
View 9 RepliesI have been fighting with my computer for about four weeks now, and I am not getting anywhere. In a nutshell, my computer started to randomly shut down and seldom reboot. There are no specific patterns I notice, except that when I try to find out what's going on the random reboots/shut downs happen more frequently (3-5 time per hour). When I just use the computer, it lasts longer without any issues. I may get between 1-4 hours. No BSOD and no error.
Now when the computer shuts down, it is a hard shut down. It is as if I turned off the power button from the PSU itself and turned it back because when I turn the computer back on, it turns on briefly and shuts down again, turns on again, beeps the all things okay beep, and boots to window. It is worth noting that this behavior started happening without adding any new hardware, software, or driver.
Here's what I have done so far to try to ameliorate/diagnose the issue.
1) I reset the PC - Here's my post on that issue if you want to take a look.
2) I did a clean install - (truly clean install).
3) I boot into the Bios, and it stills reboot/shut down (this causes me to suspect a hardware issue, but what?).
4) I open the case and ensure that everything is properly seated on the MOBO.
5) I cleaned out the PC of dust
6) My temperatures are normal, no overheating going on.
7) I ran ad-ware/spyware check - nothing has been found.
8) I ran a virus check (yes, with windows defender) - nothing came up. I don't think it's a virus since the problem continues even after a clean install.
9) It's not a lack of power issue. My PSU is 1000W and I am not using that much power.
10) I did a stress test for over an hour, and everything was normal (this causes me to doubt it is a hardware problem).
11) I am sure I have done more than the before mentioned steps, but I can't remember them all.
At this point, I suspect my issue might be hardware related; however, I really do not know what this could be, and I do not want to start buying new hardwares (i.e. PSU) without knowing what the issue really is, particularly when it endured a stress test without any issues. I thought of applying a thermal paste/grease on the CPU, but since I am not overheating I don't think that's necessary. So, I am at a lost on what my next steps should be. I am not savvy enough on reading memory dumps files... my computer is not generating any of those files anyway. But I know I can force my computer to generate them.
Every time I try to put put my laptop to sleep, hibernate, restart it or shutdown, it stalls for about 10 minutes before giving me a Driver Power State Failure.
Having installed "WhoCrashed" and "Windbg", I was able to determine it was related to "ntkrnlmp.exe", "ndis.sys", "raspppoe.sys" and a vpn driver at one point or another. I "believe" I managed to uninstall the offending vpn driver but of course still overall have the same issue.
This appeared to occur while trying to do a windows update last week but I can't be sure. I presume, there is a out of date or corrupt driver but just can't seem to determine which one.
On my system, I have Automatically Restart set in the system failure but when it BSOD's, it says that the system will restart after the dump but it appears it just stays at the blue screen without restarting even after an hour on atleast 3 occasions since I've upgraded to Win10 from Win7 Home Premium on August 11, 2015, the system is able to restart and shutdown normally.

View 3 RepliesI have bought a Lenovo yoga 2 pro 2 weeks ago and upgraded win 8 to win 10 almost immediately. I have had this issue for some time, when I install some software. Some buttons are blocked or the text is too small. I have been having resolution problems as well which I solved by adjusting it but this issue doesn't go with changing it.
Here what it looks like .....
The taskbar for the last 2 weeks or so has not been working correctly. The Windows 10 start icon does not respond at all, along with the search icon, the speakers icon, the new notifications icon, and the calendar/date. The only icons working are the 'task view' icon and the 'show hidden icons' little arrow icon. The right click menu works on the start icon and the right click menu for the taskbar "properties" box also works, and that is about it. Of course any apps I have added or any default programs already present in the taskbar work also, although since I upgraded to Windows 10, I have noticed it is almost impossible to get a right click menu on an icon in the taskbar; very iffy at best, but mostly just completely non-existent.

Apparently, the main way to do this is from within Windows 10, but that's obviously not an option.I have access to a Windows 7 computer. If I make a Startup Repair drive there, will it work on Windows 10?
If not, can I at least use it to boot my computer and run chkdsk and sfc?Is there some website where (using my other computer) I can download the image of the Windows 10 Startup Repair, or something like that?
I lost power throughout the night and my desktop keeps coming up with "your pc did not start correctly". Restarting it won't work either. When I troubleshot and do a "reset this pc" it keeps coming up with "there was a problem resetting your pc" no changes were made". Nothing is working for me.

Had problems with Firefox. Tried to download to replace existing Firefox. CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up. Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
- Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry. If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.
I recently upgraded the 3 machines on my home network to windows 10 home.
Currently when I open up "this PC" and click on network, only one of the 3 computers shows up, and this machine is not the local machine on 2 of them. However If I type in the UNC address for the other machines I can access them.
If I set up a home group all the computers show up in the home group roll out under "this PC" but still not in the network.
Something else that is strange. If I look at "network and sharing center" two of the the computer see one private network name and the other one sees a different name.
Having issues with Action Center since yesterday. Two things can happen 1) will not open when clicked, or 2) will open, briefly, for one or two seconds, and will close itself, while not allowing any click on it.
