BSOD :: Erases Files Without Any Notification

Sep 27, 2015

I have noticed this issue for a few days now. The issue occurs in the same PC.I have my old Windows 8.1 system in an SSd drive, so I booted and took screenshots, reg settings and an entire backup, which I took in a folder on my backup drive. I then shut down my pc and changed startup hard drives (I have a tray system with interchangeable drives).I booted using my newly created Windows 10 system and browsed the folder where I took my backups, .reg settings and .docx documents containing my notes for system configuration. The files were not there! I first browsed the location for my reg files (Windows was still booting at that time) and saw the folder where the Entire backup was saved. After a while, I tried to go inside the folder and the system informed me that the folder was not there! All my files in that folder were gone!

Other older files were still there (backups and other items saved by the Windows 8.1 system).I have no virus on both systems, no files available in the recycle bin (only SIDs that I can't access at all and Recycle bin size that *could* contain the backup files, almost 54 GB).My question, is there any security feature, glitch or something else deleting my files?I am very sure that the files were automatically erased by my Windows 10 system upon access or booting, some kind of security feature maybe.

BSOD :: How To Read Dump Files

Nov 24, 2015

I wasn't quick enough to note down the full error as Windows did a crash dump, but I did notice the offending file was an Atheros driver. This was confirmed by Control Panel | Reliability Monitor

Windows

Shut down unexpectedly

I've used the DM Log Collector to get the DMP file, but I'd quite like to study it myself, and send relevant parts to Alfa (who make the offending Wi-Fi adaptor with the Atheros chipset).

BSOD :: No Dump Files / Various Different Messages

Jan 14, 2016

I have a fresh install of Windows 10 Home on a factory built PC (Chillblast) that was running OK under Windows 7, but is now Blue Screening on Windows 10.When I boot the PC from cold about 1/3 of the time it will blue screen. The messages vary. Sometimes it will say IRQL Not less or Equal, or Page fault in non-paged area, or Memory Management.

The messages always happen pretty much at the exact second that you would normally get the logon box up. It never Blue screens when I'm actually using the computer, even if I'm hitting it hard with games. It also never blue screens on a reboot. Only when it's booting from power complete power down.I suspect that it's software rather than hardware, maybe a driver?

The only message in the logs is that the computer as recovered from an unexpected shutdown. It rarely creates Dump rile.I thought that it might be bad RAM. I have two 8GB chips. Both are the original chips that the computer was sold with. If I try with one chip in it runs perfectly. It doesn't matter which chip, or which slot the chip is in. It runs perfectly with all combinations. If I put them both in 1/3 of the time BSOD.

I've run Memtest86+ and it didn't find any problems. I've also run the System File Checker and it didn't find anything. As this is a fresh install I don't have much loaded. It started blue screening with only the basic software needed to run my hardware, and an Anti-Virus (Avira) loaded.

Windows 10 is installed on a totally new disc, straight out of the box (Sandisk SSD).Other than the hard disk and a soundcard, the PC is pretty much a factory build, with a factory configured motherboard. It's not overclocked, and I haven't tinkered with it.Before I installed Windows 10, I occasionally had a Stop 0X000008a error, but I don't know if that's relevant or not as it was a different OS on a different hard disk.

BSOD :: Error While Downloading Files

Oct 17, 2015

Have tried finding a solution on the internet but so far no luck.. I keep getting BSOD when downloading (and only when downloading) files. L1C63x64.sys ...I have attached the dump files.

Everything seems to point at my network adapter driver. Which is from Atheros. Alas they do not have drivers for Windows 10. Anything I can do here? I already tried driver verifier and it doesn't seem to be a 3rd party problem. Also did a memory check and it's not that either..

Uploaded the correct zip ....

BSOD :: Changed Permissions On All Files On C Drive Now Get Black Screen?

Nov 12, 2015

Windows 10 In Windows Explorer, I right-clicked on C: and went to Properties and then selected the Security tab and edited the permissions to Allow Full control and it ran for a long, long time. When I re-booted the computer it works fine until after the Sign In screen then the screen goes black. I have a cursor and if I hit Ctrl-Atl-Delete I can select Task Manager but then the screen goes black again. I can boot into Safe Mode with Networking and I can get a Command Prompt in Safe Mode. I have looked at ICACLS but I'm not sure how to use it to re-set the permissions back to normal Windows 10 settings.

Random Shutdown / Sometimes Reboots - No BSOD Or Memory Dump Files

Oct 13, 2015

I have been fighting with my computer for about four weeks now, and I am not getting anywhere. In a nutshell, my computer started to randomly shut down and seldom reboot. There are no specific patterns I notice, except that when I try to find out what's going on the random reboots/shut downs happen more frequently (3-5 time per hour). When I just use the computer, it lasts longer without any issues. I may get between 1-4 hours. No BSOD and no error.

Now when the computer shuts down, it is a hard shut down. It is as if I turned off the power button from the PSU itself and turned it back because when I turn the computer back on, it turns on briefly and shuts down again, turns on again, beeps the all things okay beep, and boots to window. It is worth noting that this behavior started happening without adding any new hardware, software, or driver.

Here's what I have done so far to try to ameliorate/diagnose the issue.

1) I reset the PC - Here's my post on that issue if you want to take a look.
2) I did a clean install - (truly clean install).
3) I boot into the Bios, and it stills reboot/shut down (this causes me to suspect a hardware issue, but what?).
4) I open the case and ensure that everything is properly seated on the MOBO.
5) I cleaned out the PC of dust
6) My temperatures are normal, no overheating going on.
7) I ran ad-ware/spyware check - nothing has been found.
8) I ran a virus check (yes, with windows defender) - nothing came up. I don't think it's a virus since the problem continues even after a clean install.
9) It's not a lack of power issue. My PSU is 1000W and I am not using that much power.
10) I did a stress test for over an hour, and everything was normal (this causes me to doubt it is a hardware problem).
11) I am sure I have done more than the before mentioned steps, but I can't remember them all.

At this point, I suspect my issue might be hardware related; however, I really do not know what this could be, and I do not want to start buying new hardwares (i.e. PSU) without knowing what the issue really is, particularly when it endured a stress test without any issues. I thought of applying a thermal paste/grease on the CPU, but since I am not overheating I don't think that's necessary. So, I am at a lost on what my next steps should be. I am not savvy enough on reading memory dumps files... my computer is not generating any of those files anyway. But I know I can force my computer to generate them.

BSOD :: Multiple Error Messages - Corrupt Files Can't Be Fixed By SFC

Jan 9, 2016

I keep getting blue screens randomly with different messages, including KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, and more. It doesn't seem to be associated with any particular app or thing that I do. This morning, I woke up to find that is BSODed in the middle of the night for apparently no reason.

I have tried SFC /SCANNOW (corrupt files can't be fixed), DISM restore_health, reinstalling Windows, check disk... You name it.

Keep Getting The Same Notification?

Jan 2, 2016

I am set up to start up without having to log in. but every time I start the laptop after about 5-10 minutes I get a notification asking me to 'click here to enter your most recent credentials, your microsoft account needs you to sign in again. If I click as it asks it takes me to Settings - mail and accounts which reveal that I am signed in. It makes no difference to my mail account whether i click or not as I can access the mail app and the store and anything else that needs a Microsoft account without problem. I am assuming that an update a few weeks ago caused this. It has no effect on the machine and if I click the notification and get the settings page all I have to do is close the settings app and the notification goes away until the next time I start up.

No Other App Uses Notification System

Sep 9, 2015

For me, the notifications on my desktop only show mails, system notifications and nothing else. No other app uses the notification system, while they could (for example skype, viber, games and so on).The notification system is another failing feature or we hope to be improved?

And secondly is the expand button, where you can press the little arrow and it will show you 50 more characters of the message/mail you got. it is obvious that this doesn't work, if you have used it you know: if it is an email, you want to read it all, or you want to mark it as read, or you want to reply, but you cannot do it through the expand button, so it is useless. On w10m you can answer an SMS from the notification bar after pressing the expand button, which is great! But why not any other app uses that feature? Is the expand button another failing feature or we hope to be improved and used by other apps??

How To Identify Notification Sounds

Oct 29, 2015

I have a desktop PC (see specs) that is persistently giving two different notification sounds but not showing a banner in the notification area to tell me what is warning/notifying me of. I think I have determined what events are being triggered by changing each notification sound in turn to a distinctive chime that is not used elsewhere. The two events concerned are "Device Connect" and "Device Disconnect". Strangely I seem to receive many more disconnect notifications than connects.

The sounds spoil my enjoyment when listening to music or watching movies etc. Obviously I can switch the sounds off by selecting "none" as the sound to play with these events but, just as obviously, I would like to know what is constantly connecting and/or disconnecting.

I am connected to a home network but I'm connected via ethernet cable and am not attaching or detaching any other equipment when the sounds occur. I'm a bit worried that I'm being scanned over the internet but I'm connected via a cable modem/router. Is there any way to show the reason for these notifications?

BTW, I'm using Windows Defender and Firewall together with the paid version of Malwarebytes.
