View 1 RepliesI just bought a new lap top with Win 10. I have a lot of experience with XP and Win.7 but with 10 I'm a dummy. How can I get it to open and skip to the desk top?
View 3 RepliesI'm new to Windows 10. How do I pull up the icon of my DVD/CD drive and click on it to open it up in order to put an CD or DVD in and play it?
View 12 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 last night and have had nothing but problems. The biggest one is the fact that I cannot open the start menu, I had worked around it by right clicking it and then selecting what I needed from there. However now that doesn't even work.
View 4 RepliesMy desktop icons will not open full size. Each time I open one I have to maximize it to full size.
This has only happened recently, I presume since the last auto update.
How do I reset to open full size automatically.
I don't know if it is a pure coincidence, but yesterday I tried to upload some photos from my Smartphone and this is what's happened! It is very frustrating and I have googled the problem umpteen times with various wording and tried a few of the suggestions (Windows main support page included) but the probem persists. I'm ready to either go down the very tedious route of a clean install of W7 (which I would loathe to do) or chucking my computer out the window which would be even worse!

View 1 RepliesI'm getting this error while trying to preview a PDF in Outlook 2013, using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 as the default.
This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer:

The thing is that after updating on windows 10 it is unable to open my desktop by minimizing the Start menu, only via windows explorer. Start menu opens always in full-screen mode so I can't resize it (yes, full-screen mode is unchecked in the relevant menu).
View 2 RepliesSince the last win 10 update, my desktop Folder icons do not work right. When I left click I get this
when I right click I get this
The only way I can open a folder (such as Downloads) is to right click, then select open.
I have tried creating new shortcuts and they do not work. Regular program shortcuts work fine. If I create a new short cut to a file, (ie a photo), I have to right click and select OPEN to view the file, then when I create a shortcut, it does not work unless I right click and select open.
I restored system to earlier date and all is well. When restarting computer I get force fed update. Selecting NEW from context menu was not there. I fixed that. Why come I get cmd when I try to open a folder?
Without any third party software: Can I with Windows 10 set new windows to open on the monitor (with dual monitor setup) from which it was launched?
By default Windows opens a new window on the monitor on which it was used last. So if I close file explorer on monitor 1, the launch it from monitor 2's start menu, it will still open on monitor 1 because that is where it was last active, even though I launched it from monitor 2.
Every time I open ACDSee ultimate 9 and try to edit a pic. then my PC would be frozen and then BSOD appeared......
View 5 RepliesI upgraded to windows 10 today. but the update failed and I got a boot phase error. soon after my system reverted back to windows 7, but it took 4 minutes for my system to actually get to the welcome screen, and it's been doing that since my attempt at upgrading, could this be a result of hard drive falliure or just the OS? should I do a clean install?
View 1 RepliesI pretty much gave up trying to install this thing after 3 days of trying. Keeps trying to install and fails.
View 2 RepliesI don't really know whats going on but I wiped my old system, re installed win 7 and then upgraded to win 10 and now my oc motherboard bundle keeps failing. I can use the computer for 10 to 20 mins and then it powers itself down resets and comes up with a message saying the settings have failed, if I re load the profile and reboot the comp will work until I turn it off for the night and then the same problem following day.
The bundle worked fine since I purchased it at the beginning of the year and is oc through bios by overclockers uk so I thought it didn't make any difference what os I used....

So I've had this computer for about a year now. I made it from used parts but in very good condition. Recently, I just turned it off, and when I turned it back on, an error popped up, something like winboot.exe, it doesn't really matter.
I tried to do a clean install of win 10 and win 7, and both times my SSD didn't have a partition.
I didn't delete it beforehand so it was weird.. And when I try to create a new one, an error pops up and I can't create it.. I did a clean install on a new HDD and the windows works, I just miss the boot speed..
I can not access desk top short cuts to open files in office programs. They exist, i can see them on the desk top but do appear when i go to files.
View 2 Replieswhenever I try to install the AMD drivers either via running the installer or auto detect, in the end I'm getting a message saying files did not install and to check the log file. I've got an Asus r9 280x. Control panel says "microsoft basic display adapter" under display adapters.
View 1 RepliesMy wife's Samsung laptop gets a failure whenever trying to do an image backup. Actually, this has been happening for quite a while - even before she installed Windows 10 when she had W7. I was hoping that the problem would go away with W10 but it hasn't. Backup runs almost to the end and then fails with the attached message. The message says to run dskchk on both her drive and on the backup drive which I did. No problems were found. (I backup my desktop on that drive all the time with no problems.) I tried backing it up on another external drive that also tests good but got the same error message.
View 9 RepliesI have 3 drives. A 60GB Intel SSD which my OS is installed on, a Samsung 120GB SSD which has just games, and a 1TB HDD for all my other media and documents. A while back my power cut out and when trying to reboot it would fail until I tried booting from my 120GB SSD, which didn't make much sense as my OS is my 60GB Intel SSD. After that I had no issues for a long time until recently where my computer (after updating overnight is my guess) wasn't booting until I tried booting from my 1TB HDD, which confused me even more as again my OS is not installed on my HDD. And now I'm basically in a situation where my PC will boot every once in a while FROM the 1TB, today it wasn't booting from any drive for a while until I unplugged and replugged the SATA cables from all of them then tried again. I have a backup of my OS on a hard drive and made a system repair disk for windows 10.
View 1 RepliesTrying to update to windows 10. Failed over a dozen times. The update is free for me.
View 2 RepliesI'm updating from 10041 to 10061 and every time get the "oops something went wrong..." message with no error code around 30~40% into installation. Any remedy or am I not the only one?
View 6 RepliesThe upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 x64 keeps failing. I get this error code: C1900204.
I have tried removing the folder and executing the command. Keep getting this error: C1900204.
New Skylake based build with Windows 10 Pro on a 250GB Samsung SSD. After initial startup I decided to format the drive to repartition it and did a clean install of Win10. Shortly after, the wireless connection to the router kept failing every few minutes and I would have to repair it. Then suddenly for no reason I could find I couldn't open the control panel. Clicking the taskbar icon would cause the screen to blink and all the taskbar icons would disappear and reappear. Decided to do a reset and that seemed to work until suddenly, again without warning or reason, I couldn't open the File Explorer and it did the same thing the Control Panel did and couldn't find a way to repair it.
Booted up from the Win10 install USB device and did another clean install of Win10. Got all of my programs reinstalled and running and all was well so I quickly did a system and partition backup with Todo. The wireless connection was working but suddenly I once again couldn't open the control panel. I had installed all Windows updates after doing the backups including the new version update but I don't know if there was anything in there that might have triggered the control panel issue. I booted up with the Todo emergency boot disc and did a partition restore. Everything is once again functional and I'm delaying running any Windows updates. Ran NOD32 virus scans and SFC /SCANNOW and neither found any problems or issues.
I'm just cruising along at the moment waiting for another incidence to occur. Is it possible I have a flaky SSD? Windows 10 seems to have a few issues with SSDs such as showing two instances of the same drive in File Explorer.
I have Windows 7 Pro on a Dell 5420 laptop. I've tried the upgrade multiple times and it always gets to 84% and then the screen goes black/blank. It sits there for upwards of a couple hours. After that it reboots and says Restoring previous version of Windows and I end up back at Windows 7.
I don't know if there's any logs somewhere I could check to try to figure out what the problem is.
Do I have any options for upgrading this laptop if the update from 7 to 10 won't work? From what I've read I need to get the in place update to work in order to get a valid Win 10 key so I might be screwed...?
My backup is failing ( three times) with 0x80780065.
There are three backup sets
EXTERNALDRIVEFranksBackupsFRANKSPCBackup Set 2015-06-01 070022 98,038 Files, 536 Folders
EXTERNALDRIVEFranksBackupsFRANKSPCBackup Set 2016-01-21 181147 691 Files, 7 Folders
EXTERNALDRIVEFranksBackupsFRANKSPCBackup Set 2016-03-04 160552 376 Files, 5 Folders
I would like to delete all three backups and start over using the windows 7 backup and restore offered by win 10 backup. Is this a viable plan?
