BSOD :: Keeps Powering Off Laptop?
Jan 14, 2016
Since I have installed Windows 10 (reluctantly) my laptop keeps switching off whilst I am working with it.
I have an old Thinkpad and have set so the power settings so it never sleeps whether on battery or mains. However, it is always plugged into the mains and I never use it with the battery.
This may be a red herring but I do have Microsoft Solitaire going most of the time, so wondering if it could be a potential cause.

I just reinstalled Win10. Before doing so I could go directly to my password screen, without the previous window due to a tweak, and when I keyed in my password it would open automatically without having to press the "Enter" key. Now I must do so. My search has only found how to not have the first screen mentioned above but not the password part.

My HP Spectre 13 laptop won't complete a startup. It has the update of Windows 10 pro (from 8.1), a solid state drive (SSD), and classic shell. The computer started earlier today and I got a message that I could restart it to effect updates -- so I did. That restart seemed OK. Next I got a notice to upgrade my Kaspersky Internet Security (to KIS2016, I think) so I said OK. Then I got a message that I could restart to make the Kaspersky the effect. I did, and that is when I got messages in the following sequence.
(At some point a message flashed, too briefly to read, about a thread missing or something.)
1) "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you."
---- Messages: "preparing automatic repair" "diagnosing your PC"
2) "Your PC did not start correctly" [restart] [advanced options]
3) at [advanced options] offered this menu:
--(1) Continue - exit and continue to windows 10
--(2) Use a device -- Use a USB drive, network connection, or windows recovery DVD.
--(3) Troubleshoot -- reset your PC or see advanced options.
--(4) Turn off your PC
4) [Troubleshoot] offers:
--(1) Reset this PC - Lets you choose to keep or remove files, and then re-installs windows.
--(2) Advanced Options
5) [Advanced options] offers:
--(1) System restore -- use a restore point
--(2) System image recovery
--(3) Startup repair - fix problems that keep windows from loading.
--(4) Command prompt
--(5) Startup settings - change windows startup behavior.
--(6) See more recovery options - go back to the previous build.
So far I have only accessed the command prompt and listed folders with DIR. I am thinking of trying to use a system restore point, but I am worried about creating even more problems.
I suspect the problem is due to Win 10 or to drivers or to Kaspersky or an interaction between them. I will post this to Windows 10 forum, to HP Support, and to Kaspersky Support.

My laptop keeps freezing randomly, and seconds later it restarts itself. I'm pretty sure this problem started when i upgraded to windows 10. It use to happen every once in awhile but now it happens several times a day while i am on a browser or doing anything on the computer. I barely have anything installed on it and its fairly new, i bought it earlier this year. I did a scan with AVG and nothing showed up. It doesn't heat up either. I also updated windows 10 to its latest version and also updated the AMD drivers as well. Should i try to reinstall windows 10?
This is the laptop i have: ASUS Laptop R510DP-WH11 AMD A10-Series A10-5750M (2.50 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD AMD Radeon HD 8670M 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago, it is a HP Pavillion Notebook. For about a week now, maybe even since when I got it, the laptop sometimes fails to wake up from sleep. The screen stays black, gets slightly lit up to gray, then the computer and goes through all that comes with that instead of waking up.
The event log shows a Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework error.
System specs:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Recently, whenever I wake my laptop up from sleep (from closing the lid and then opening it again), sometimes I get a BSOD.
I think it started when I updated the Intel graphics driver, so I've booted into safe mode, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and I still get an issue.
I've attached the debug files, there was a previous BSOD a few months ago that I was getting due to a Nvidia driver issue, but I downgraded to an earlier version and it's stopped it, so I don't think the issue is there.

When I close the lid of my laptop, put it into sleep mode, or put it into hibernation mode, the laptop basically shuts down. The power light flashes on and off, but when I reopen the lid or press the power button to turn it back on, the screen flashes grey and reboots.
What I have tried:
Changing all of the advanced power options
Resetting my laptop (to before the issue started occurring)
Restoring my laptop to factory settings
Redownloading windows 10
Disabling the UEFI (BIOS) setting that allows the computer to be turned off to save power
Updating the drivers that were suggested on the windows eight forums
Downloading the chipset driver from Asus
Downloading the ACHI Link Power Management and trying all the settings
What I've done in the command prompt:sfc /scannow then Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.I also tried the chkdsk command but there were no problems found
When I started noticing the problem:After I downloaded VMware's player and created a virtual computer with Ubunt

After updating to Windows 10 Pro recently I get a lot of BSOD's (DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION). Mostly when my laptop wakes up from a well deserved moment of sleep. Also I noticed that sometimes the laptop awakens from sleep when I didn't ask it to wake up.
Culprit (driver probably). Here's the dump file I collected XPS-vr_21-08-2015_120314,69.zip

So I got a new laptop - MSI Dominator Pro GT72. I added two 8GB sticks of RAM on top of the current 16GB currently in it. It also had two Kingston m.2 SSDs in RAID 0. It was running with out any problems what so ever. I decided after that I actually wanted the ssds as two independent drives. So I removed the RAID setup and did a clean install of Windows 10 back on. That seemed to install all ok.
Then In the process of installing the drivers from the provided MSI disc it hung and then restarted. Then ever time after on login it froze a few seconds in. I thought I'd try a clean install again on the other SSD this time just to see if it reoccurred. Sure did. After installing some of the drivers and using the machine it crashed again and froze on login. I even tried all the updated drivers from the msi website instead of the ones on the disc.
I've run a memtest and absolutely no errors. I've updated the bios and firmware also. I then began running verifier to see if I could find a culprit. I got a BSOD before login repeatedly. I then got down to only selecting a bare few drivers in the test and was able to login with no BSOD. When I ran verifier with combinations of drivers they worked sometimes and only really seemed to crash when i stacked more and more drivers for it to test. I'm not sure if its suppose to work that way or not.
I thought it might have something to do with me separating the m.2 ssds from the RAID. I should mention that there is a 1TB hdd also in the machine.

I've had this machine since Oct 5. On Oct 14 it started BSOD, particularly on wake up. Event log shows about 5 reboots. I've turned off the sleep while on AC, told it not to put the HD to sleep, and waiting to see if that fixes it. I can get a full refund or exchange on this box through Monday.

Having successfully upgraded a tosh laptop with Win 10 and finding and installing all unknown device drivers (2 of them) the machine worked well. I then turned my attention to install any of the 3 different printers I have, Brother, HP and Epsom. With each printer I get the same problem, regardless how I try to install each one, either with the driver package, using the win 10 printer install routine the machine crashes. I get a black screen and the laptop trys to reboot and crashes again. After the second crash the laptop resets itself and I have to re-install my apps and device drivers again. Try again to install any printer and the same routine happens all over again.

I finally got me a BSOD on my windows 10, on laptop. I was tranferring some music files from my ssd on laptop to an external hard drive in a wifi hdd enclosure. The error is "EXFAT_FILE_SYSTEM (EXFAT.SYS)".The HD (WD10EADS) in the enclosure is formatted in Fat32, and I was thinking that might have something to do it the error. But the HD has to be in Fat32 in order for the WIFI enclosure to be able to see the HD, per the instructions of enclosure.

I am little frustrated as my laptop crashes frequently when not in work. It runs well when I am doing any task, I mean when mouse and keyboards are in use. But if I keep my laptop open and there is no activity, immediately after sometime, it crashes and shows BSOD. For each case of BSOD, the problems are different. I have analyzed the minidump file (Though I am not an expert, but tried) and each minidump files says different causes and lists different programs as affected, but I could not make a solution for it. analyze the dump files and tell me exactly what is causing the problems from the attached minidump files.
I am running Microsoft Windows 10 Pro on HP 14-r029tx laptop with 4th generation Intel Core-i3 processor, 4 GB DDR3 Ram and 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce 820M Gfx card.

Brand new Alienware 17 R3 and I get this BSOD probably 70% of the time on system start, restart, or awake from sleep. It only occurs once, after it has occurred it will never happen a second time in a row. All it says is the whole "IRQL Not Less OR Equal" thing, then reboots. I have followed the instructions in the sticky and attached the corresponding zip file.
I have already updated several things from the Dell site directly after trying some google research on the subject. In the last 24 hours I have updated the BIOS, sound drivers, touchpad drivers, video drivers (both onboard and for the 980M.) I also updated the wifi and LAN drivers from the Dell support site about a week ago shortly after getting the machine.

I've had several different error messages, but non of them are followed with any specifications about where the error is being generated. In chronological order:
Kernel Failure security check (Two times at random moments, until I tried to fix it, then the next errors at startup)
System Service exception
System Thread excetion not handled
Kmode exception not handled
The last two are now being displayed alternately every time I start the computer, until the advanced startup kicks in. I've been trying every step I founded online and it hasn't worked. I checked for errors in the memory and drives, and also runned a complete antivirus scan and a malware scan (Panda Free Anivirus 2016 and Malwarebytes), everything came out clean.
I am guessing that's something to do with faulty or corrupt drivers, since it works fine when is started on Safe Mode. Safe mode with Network, for some reason, won't enable the WiFi, and I don't have any other way to connect to the internet, so I can't let it check the drivers on it's own. I have tried downloading all the drivers in Acer's oficial page, but some are the same version or older than the ones I have installed. Others won't let me install them because the Windows Installer services is not enabled.
I have tried to repairing the installation and restarting it, but it throws an error message and does nothing. The next step for me it would be to return it to factory with windows 8.1, but I don't want to ignore an error that could appear again in the future, or that could get worse.
I have bought this laptop less than a month ago.

Windows kept asking me for the password upon startup and would not recognize the password I input each time. So I would have to reset it. I went to the forum and read how to shut the password feature off by holding the windows key + r , typing the letters provided and unchecking the box. The system then asked me to restart. My laptop will not restart - blue/black screen appears and nothing else.

I have a new Toshiba C55-C5241 Laptop, which came pre-loaded with Windows 10. (See Specs)
I clean installed Windows 10 last weekend. All went very well. I just started loading programs this weekend.
I started noticing the blue screen stops yesterday. These happen coming out of Sleep. I probably never would have noticed these before because I was not leaving the machine alone long enough for it to go into Sleep. So unfortunately I do not know when the behavior started - from the beginning or after some software installation.
Here are my reports: SCULLY-Sun_08_30_2015__64736_97.zip
Blue screens are mostly "Kernal Data Inpage Error" and the more serious "Critical Process Died", both I understand to be processor related.
I did not have the presence of mind to test or check any of this early on. But I do have images of the original factory installation and of the fresh, clean install (before any customization or software installs). I do not believe that I ever tried Sleep Mode on the original factory installation.
The stops happen very consistently when on battery power, less so when plugged in. For a while I thought they did not occur when plugged in - this was not the case. They seem to be more consistent when manually going into sleep, not so much when it goes into sleep from Power Settings.
All of the drivers in the clean install were the same as the drivers in the factory installation (at the time I finished). I did not turn off automatic driver update for a few days. I will check the driver list for changes later.
Software installed (in order) : Avast!, Firefox, Office 2010 (H&S), Nitro Reader, VLC (64 bit), Handy Address Book (a prog I've been using for years), Malwarebytes, CCleaner (never run), and Winamp. I am thinking of restoring the clean install image today (start over). Just to see if the behavior started then.
