View 2 RepliesI have noticed a bug in windows 10 home.Copying any file from/to a pen drive connected to my windows 10 PC is very slow. Transfer speed is 5mbps maximum.Same file is transferring at normal speed(20-25mbps) when I transfer it within local drives(i.e. D drive to E drive) Hence I can say, transfer is slow in case of PC and Pen drive ONLY.
P.S:
1) Same pen drive is working perfectly in another PC having windows 8.1 running.
2) Drivers are up to date.
3) I upgraded(not done clean install) from Windows 10 insider preview to Windows 10 home.
I was wonding if I can backup OneNote? Like if I want to do a clean install of Win10 in the future. Right now I'm using Notepad for all of my notes but thinking about moving everything to OneNote if I could back it up.
View 9 RepliesI have 2 Alienware M18X laptops. Both have been reset to factory settings and windows 10 installed via a usb. They are exactly the same computers. One works perfectly but the other freezes or black screens not long after the desktop appears. My question is can i back-up the one that is working and restore it on the 2nd one? Hardware is both the same and diagnostics show there is no fault.
View 4 RepliesI have been having a problem with unwanted deletion of emails. I just purchased and began using Outlook 2016.
Is there is a program available for backing up emails received and sent with Outlook 2016?
I purchased a laptop a while ago and it came with windows 10 home. I'd like to upgrade to Windows 10 pro, but instead of paying for an upgrade in the windows store I'd rather use the unused copy of windows 7 ultimate that i already own since you get w10 pro when upgrading from w7 ultimate. All my data is on the C drive so how would I go about backing it up so I can restore it on the new OS? Also would I lose all the drivers and programs for the laptops features such as the webcam, keyboard backlight, etc?

View 1 RepliesI did the upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro. Privacy concerns aside, I like Windows 10. I haven't had any problems with software and hardware compatibility. I use 27 different email accounts within WLM 2012, for a variety of reasons. Many of these email accounts have additional folders that I have added. The accounts consist of sbcglobal.net, live.com, msn.com, outlook.com and windowslive.com.
I'm using a Dell XPS-17 L702X laptop with two 500GB internal drives. I will place the WLM 2012 backup on my second internal drive, Drive D. I need to know exactly how to backup WLM to this second drive so that I don't lose any saved emails in the various accounts. I will then import everything from this backup to the clean installation of Windows 10. Is this possible, or will I have to install WLM 2012 on Windows 10 and then add and configure each email account?
I am using Windows 10, and I am trying to copy one folder to another folder using File Explorer. If I click on a file folder, I find that the "Copy to" and "Move to" icons are both greyed out. The only option that I find available is the moving or copying of individual files. I need to move folders with a lot of files and sub-directories in them.
View 3 RepliesIs it at all possible to take the OS, already installed, from your PC and put it onto a USB? I plan on getting Windows 10, but want to be able to revert to Windows 7 if I don't like it. (I don't have the computers disks, as it was a hand-me-down birthday present from my older sister.)
View 1 RepliesI have a gaming rig I bought a month ago. It wasn't set up right, so I'm formatting the drives and starting from scratch. I'm trying to copy 60GB of stuff to a external drive before I wipe it. It's been going for about 6 hours now and stuck at 99%. It says that there is 0 bites remaining, and 25 seconds. It's stuck there and won't change. Should I just cancel it, because 0 bites are remaining I assume everything is there.
View 1 RepliesI have just upgraded to Win 10 but now when I try to save pictures from my Nokia it says access denied, even the Nokia suite does not sync? I tried to use snipping tool to capture the dialogue box but I can not save that either, tho I have copied it below. I have lowered UAC status, but that does not work?
View 9 RepliesI am using Win10 10240. I have a problem copying a large number of big files. The setup is a bit tortuous.
The source is an old WD Cloud NAS on ethernet via my ethernet connected router. The destination is an external hard drive on USB3.0
Using file explorer, I drag a bunch of folders to the destination and copying begins but either stalls soon after or indeed never starts. When it works the speed is around 10Mp/s but why does it stall at random places?
I've tried just copying a single folder too. Single files are OK. I've looked at the resource monitor and so on and can't see anything odd although I'm no expert there.
I don't know of any other way to get these files across. The WD Cloud software is hopeless and not fit for purpose in my view. Would a command line xcopy batch file be better? Or third party stuff?
I got my free upgrade to Windows 10 and I tried installing it. But it got stuck at 24%, copying new files 83%.
View 2 RepliesIs there a rugged copy program that can copy a partially corrupted file (*.mpg) from a CD/DVD onto your H/D? What happens is that when the normal windows copy operation encounters that portion of the DVD that is faulty, it tries over and over again (endlessly, it seems) and then just hangs and I have to reboot, forcing that irritating wait for it to scan the C and D drives on reboot. This occurs with any program I try that attempts to read the entire file from the DVD, such as PowerDVD, windows explorer copy, Media Player, windvd, dos copy, etc. I assume it is because a cluster with a faulty cyclic check is encountered, and the windows read operation can't just accept the data anyway and proceed, but, instead, keeps on trying to reread and getting the same cyclic error over and over again.
What I need is a read option that "accepts" the error, transfers the bad cluster as it came across (errors and all), and then continues until it reaches end of data. I get this when some of my home-recorded mpg movies hang up somewhere in the middle, but, if I know in advance and skip over the bad part, the remainder of the movie plays just fine. I need a program that will ignore the cyclic error and just go on. I know we had this back when I did mainframe programming (the ACCEPT option), so I wonder if there is any windows program that does the same for mpeg files on CD's or DVD"s.
I had reserved a copy of windows 10 and i was able to download it through windows update. once it is downloaded i was asked to restart for updating. copying files stuck at 0% for 5 min and windows 7 ultimate x64 rolls back.
I can even see an error message in windows update page shows Windows 10 Pro installation failed error 80070006
Even though I had only 1.3GB used on a 32GB SD card, I could not copy a 7GB file from my C-drive stating there was not enough free space. Why and what to do.
BTW - the sd card was NOT formated in FAT32 and was formated in the NTFS.
Followed the tutorial, extracted the iso. Ran set up. How long should I let it stay at 0%
View 3 RepliesI'm recently upgraded form windows 7 to windows 10. I'm facing the annoying issue that windows explorer steals the application focus after it finishes copying files and comes to front. Any option to disable this behavior?
View 1 RepliesI tried updating my Win8.1 to Win10 twice.
The first time, it hung at 26% total, 89% copying files. Then it bricked my system completely so I made a clean install of Windows 8.1. There was nothing else installed than Windows & Updates.
Tried to update it with a stick made by the Media Creation Tool --> Stuck at 23%, 77% copying files.
I tried everything: Disabled Network Adapter, pulled all Cables (only mouse left) out, I also detached my second HDD.
I am trying to install Win10 on my SSD (Samsung 830 Pro, 130GB). I am running a Z77 Chipset.
I'd love to install completely new with the Image but that doesn't work because of the activation later on..
I'm stuck with a fresh Windows 8.1 install now, that's not really what I wanted. I'd love to update to 10 since I had it as a Insider too.
I have made several attempts to upgrade my desktop from 8.1 to 10. Each time the install freezes at the "copying files = 3%" point. When I reboot the system returns to my 8.1 setup and shows the above code with this explanation. "Installation failed in SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation"
View 9 RepliesFirst time running into issues with my SP3. Was able to download the latest build without any issues. Restarted and the overall install is 18% (blue ring has disappeared) and the Copying Files step is stuck on 63%. Been like that for 15-20 minutes or so. Should I wait it out or try to shut my Surface off?
View 5 RepliesWith Windows 8, if I copy files or folders from one disk to another, a window appears which shows the progress. This is very useful. Windows 10 does not show this window. Is there a way to make it appear?
View 3 RepliesWith Win7 I used to open one external drive, then through My computer locate the other drive. I would have each drive on its own window. I could then select relevant files on one drive copy and paste into the other drive. With Win10 if I click on File explorer I can open one external drive, where can I locate the other drive to put in a separate window. If I click on the other drive, it just opens it in the same window. Win7 and previous versions used to be so simple.
View 5 RepliesWindows 10. I'm at the "Upgrading Windows" screen and it's been stuck at 25% (copying files 84%) for over an hour. Is this normal?
View 7 RepliesRecently I had to reinstall Windows 10 on my laptop. Earlier I had downloaded and installed many apps from Windows Store. I have a copy of C:Users{user}AppDataLocalPackages with me.
Is it possible to get back the apps by copying the entire folder to my machine? Is there any option to get back the apps? Or should I download and install them once again?
