Mar 24, 2016
I somehow messed up my max memory setting from 8196 to 520 in the system configuration under the 'Boot' tab. Every time I try to restart my laptop, it said bad_system_config_error. How to change back my max memory setting to default. Btw, I'm using lenovo y510p and my os is windows 10.

So, wandering around in the wonderland that is The Witcher 3, my computer froze. I reset it using the reset button and got a DISK READ ERROR (ctrl+alt+del to reboot). And then I found that power cycling my SSD worked, which was nice. Upon rebooting back, Windows performed a disk check, then diagnostics, a restart, and then I got into Windows proper. Checking WhoCrashed, it gave me back BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO, and the following (large 316 MB) dmp file: [URL] ....

I used avg tuneup to check the disk for errors on next boot and my computer turned off while it was checking for errors. After this happened I can't get windows 10 to boot into login. I get a message saying it can't boot windows and I get a bad system config info error.
I am using a N5050 Inspiron Dell Laptop.I tried booting into command prompt and running the command chkdsk /f /r /x and when it finishes it says it didn't fix anything or fine any errors. Ubuntu says it has bad sectors when I tried to run a fix on the partition in gparted. I tried burning easyre windows 10 recovery disc on usb and DVD-r without any luck on ubuntu. Yes I know how to setup my computer to boot from cd/dvd or usb. I only have access to windows command prompt and ubuntu system on external usb jump drive I have no access to windows computer.

I'm receiving a BSOD with "BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO" when I reboot my computer. I only noticed this since I turned on my MSI "Fast Boot," but this is a BIOS setting, so I don't know if it is related to the problem, since this error code (0x74) refers to a corrupted registry.
When I restart, I get this BSOD every time, and then it reboots into Windows after the BSOD, every time.
I ran "sfc /scannow" in an elevated command prompt, rebooted (got the BSOD again), and ran it again. Then I ran the dm_log_collector application. I attached my resulting .zip file.

First of all i was just cleaning my pc, ran a disk cleanup. I came across this program called driver booster from Clean, Optimize, Speed Up and Secure PC - Freeware Download - IObit, along with some of there other programs from it, i ran a norton scan, the driver booster, there defragging program and a full clean up program they offered. It was getting pretty late and the defrag program was on 40% and the driver booster kept prompting me to reboot after it had installed some drivers. I turned my pc off by accident and decided to go a bed. I woke up with the error bad_system_config_info, i had this problem before so didnt panic, i restarted, did startup repair which did not work, then booted up into safe mode which did not work, i tried some bootrec commands that some people over on reddit told a guy with the same error to do.
No fix, bootrec scannow and scanos did not find any windows installations which was odd and then i decided it was time to just give up and reset however it got to 30-40% and stopped, it said it could not reset and ran into a problem. I burned a windows10.iso to a disc and booted the pc with it and tried to reset with that, still stops at 30-40%. So im now here with little to no hope on getting my pc to boot and im posting this to hopefully get answers as my problem is very different from any others on reddit.
What im thinking is either it was the drivers that the program installed. The cleanup program also did a registry clean up which may have screwed things up in the BCD which ive heard is a cause of this error.
P.S i have windows 10, maker of the pc is zoostorm.

I built my very first PC in the weekend. Everything was working fine, but after a restart, I had an error message saying something along the lines of "Windows couldn't start". I then had several options where I ended up choosing something like "Start Windows from a version that worked" which erased like half of my programs and many of my drivers. I then proceeded to reset the computer entirely and restarted.
Now, the computer is working again (as it were before) and I've installed everything again, including all the drivers (I hope). However, when I restart the computer, I get a blue screen that says: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll start for you. If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO. It then restarts and works perfectly. This only happens every approx. third restart, the other times, it boots just fine.
I bought Windows 10 Home on a USB which I used to install on my new SSD. All the drivers should be up to date. What to do?

I have gone into settings in my Windows 10 and changed the default music player from groove music to windows media player. But when I click on music files, it automatically starts playing in Groove and NOT windows media player. I have restarted Windows several times with the same results.

I would like to change default system fonts that are used in applications, file managers, shell menus, windows titles, but I can not find the option to do so. I am comming from the Linux Mint where you have option "fonts" in control panel and there you change fonts, but here in W10 I can not find anything similar. Also, on my laptop Acer E5-571G, fonts are kinda hard to read, they are not very clear, like here on this site for example. Clear type tuning or however it is called is turned on. This is why I would like to change fonts to something else than default.

I have an HP DV4 Laptop(i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) that came with Windows 7, I recently updated to Win10. Everything seems fine except of the high CPU usage in System and Compressed memory. I narrowed it down to the Realtek Memory Card reader. I should also mention that right after the Win10 update two Realtek Memory Card Reader entries were in Device Manager with yellow exclamation icons.
I deleted them and had Windows install the drivers from Windows updates, after that everything LOOKS fine. And there's only one entry now. After a while I noticed the fan making a lot of noise, wasn't like that in Win7.Anyway, after hours of troubleshooting I eventually came back to the Realtek reader, sure enough after disabling it CPU went to normal.I have also downloaded the newest driver from realtek site.

I have a new HP laptop which has a new Windows 10 image on it. I was able to set up my Microsoft account on it, so I can log-in with it, but if I go to SETTINGS | ACCOUNTS | YOUR EMAIL AND ACCOUNTS, nothing ever shows - the animated graphic at the top (flying dots) continues forever and nothing is ever displayed.
My login id has admin rights, so I don't think it's not a permissions issue. Why I can't see/change the account information??

I have an old VAIO Laptop-VPCEC4S0E, and I really wanna boost it. So it came with window 7 and I updated to window 10 on my hdd. Now the things I wanna do are as follows. The laptop is very slow, and there is nothing at all on it that i need. I need to destroy whatever is on it, and get it back to factory settings. Will that return it to window 7? I dnt know. On the other hand, I want to remove my hdd and replace it with an ssd.
Plus i wanna remove my old memories and put newer ones (6gb into 8gb).Should I start with restoring to factory settings (again not sure if it will be back to win7), then install window 10 on hdd, then clone it to the ssd, then swap the hdd with the ssd? is that the right order of doing these things. And I will fit the memory change with the hdd-ssd swap.In I wanna make my old laptop like a new purchased laptop with an SSD, new memory and a Window 10 on it.

I see a lot of people talk about the system process and say it uses a large amount of ram when they aren't even doing anything, in my case it stays low except when I launch games.
For example I can run CSGO and system won't budge, then I can run League of Legends and itll jump to around 500-700mb or dayz where I've seen it jump to almost 2gb and dayz will actually go down in memory while system goes up. I also don't see any performance hits and when I close the game out it will shrink down to around 100mb.
My question is if this is supposed to be happening, I've found a fix in where I just disable Superfetch and system will never budge past 0.1mb. However I notice things like Skype will start using over 100mb where if superfetch was enabled it would sit at 35mb.

Is there any way to stop the "system and compressed memory" from happening? I am so annoyed by it's constant 90% Memory usage! I used to have only 8 GB of RAM and it would use 7GB out of the whole 8GB. I recently upgraded to 16GB and everything was fine. System and Compressed memory was only using 1-2GB but now it's skyrocketed up to using 90% memory (14GB). What the hell is this feature?

I have a new Lenovo A740 all-in-one desktop. It has a core i7-4558U and 8GB of ram. It is also running a updated version of win 10 home. For some reason i keep getting a pop up on my screen that says "Close programs to prevent information loss, your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close google chrome". I never have a ton of intensive programs open and it always seems to pop up and tells me to close google chrome and/or Skype.
When i go into task manager and look at my processes google chrome and Skype are using a very low amount of memory. At the top of the processes there is "System and Compressed Memory" which is using 1,942.8MB of memory and my system says i am currently using 75% of total system memory. What could be causing this is how can i fix it.

Since I have installed Windows 10 on my laptop there has been a significant amount of increase in RAM usage. Main contribution to it is coming from NT system and kernel, which is using around 60% of the memory. Is there any fix for it. I cannot use anything apart from Chrome, otherwise memory usage reaches the maximum limit.

Installed Win10 yesterday for free, everything went without a hitch that day. Today after rebooting and having installed new updates, I fire up World of Warcraft and after a minute of playing I get a freeze for 20 seconds, followed by an error message from Windows that WoW is causing memory issues.
I open up Task Manager and WoW is sitting at a happy ~1.5GB RAM usage, while another program called "System and Compressed Memory" is at 3.4GB RAM usage, after a minute it went back down to ~200MB, but kept spiking to 1-2GB
I read up on this process online, but only ever came up threads of people having issues about it consuming too much CPU, mine was sitting at 0-1% usage during that lockdown for that process.
The process is supposed to facilitate RAM usage, but so far it has only caused issues, and I never had any RAM issues on Win7. So, is there a way to shut this thing off?

I am having an issue with System and compressed memory constantly using at 35% CPU, resulting in the fans on my laptop running all the time and being very noisy.
I have read:
Solved Is this normal? System and compressed memory process ALWAYS at 20% cpu - Windows 10 Forums
Why is using so much CPU?? SB, th2, all updated and indexing done. : Surface
System and Compressed Memory Service High CPU Usage - Microsoft Community
and i have also tried adjusting the pagefile from system managed to Initial 2Gb and Maximum 8Gb, and disabling sleep.
But nothing i do seems to stop this usage, some people seem to report that it goes away after 30 minutes or so, or rebooting a few times seems to sort it out, but nothing seems to be working in my case!!!
I am running a genuine copy of windows 10 Pro...
