View 1 RepliesI originally started with a HDD with windows installed on it and data in anther partition on the drive, then got a SSD and moved the windows partition onto it,
my drives and partitions look like this:
I'm not sure if to remove the old SYSTEM partition or not, and if the SSD needs one also, My boot is also a lot slower on windows 10
I have a 500GB HDD divided into 3 partitions: The main one currently doesn't have an OS, the secondary one has Windows 10 64bits and the third one has Windows 7 64.
I want to carry(backup and then restore) the Windows 10 from the secondary partition over to the main one but without losing all the data on the main partition(movies, games, programs, etc.). How do I do that if possible?
I am planning on building a new PC in the coming months and am trying to figure out the best backup solution for it.
My current plan is to install Win10 and all programs on a 500GB SSD and store all personal files on a 2 or 3TB HDD. I've found plenty of tutorials online for moving the Windows "Users" folder to a separate drive either during installation or afterwards.
However I am wondering if doing that will mess up using Window's backup? If either the SSD or the HDD fails, will Windows Backup be able to restore all the files to their proper locations (i.e OS and programs to SSD and data to HDD)?
I've used Windows 7's backup in the past to restore all my data after a HDD failure and it worked flawlessly. However, I'm not committed to using it exclusively. Any other backup options. This computer is going to be the family computer, with all my wife's data on it, so I need to make it "just work".
Upgraded to 10 yesterday. Any way to make a Windows 10 recovery CD?
View 8 RepliesSo I managed to break my partition table, but I was able to recover my entire C: drive and copy every file and folder to an external drive. My question now becomes, is there anyway to, when I reinstall Windows, to restore from that backup (since it's just a data backup of files and folders, not a system image)? Would booting into linux (so that partition isn't in use by Windows) and simply copy-past-overwriting the old files effectively give me my system back?
View 3 RepliesI chose the "fast" ring update on the windows insider app in order to get the preview for windows 10 on my lumia 1520. It updated fine but since the migrating data process began, it has been stuck in a continuous reboot loop. The screen shows the nokia logo and the windows logo briefly, then shows the at&t logo (since I bought the phone in the US) with "not for resale" written in the bottom left corner. How can I fix this? I don't mind losing all my data.
View 3 RepliesWhy is my Lumia 730 with Windows 10 Technical Preview unable to Restore backup data from OneDrive? Today I received an update from Windows Insider Program. Before installing it, I Backed up my phone data (Lumia Denim) to OneDrive. Then downloaded and installed the update, and now my phone is having Windows 10 Technical Preview. Although it was installed successfully, still I found some bug in the Flight Mode option . Flight Mode was ON and I couldn't turn it OFF. So I tried RESET MY PHONE.
While resetting my phone, it asked whether I would like to restore from the already Backed up data from OneDrive. I selected YES, but after successfully restoring data up to 20% the phone notified me that UNABLE TO VERIFY YOUR ACCOUNT. I repeated the process thrice with no solution. My phone is working phone, but I need the backed up data, mainly the contact list from the backed up data at OneDrive. How I could get my contact list back from back up without RESETTING THE PHONE. [No issues with my Internet connection]
I have a bootable windows installation Thumb Drive. Can Macrium make a backup of this thumb drive so in the event of this thumb drive going faulty, I could make another Thumb drive with the backup image.

View 2 RepliesI just got a new system coming from a Win 7 Pro machine to a Win 10 Pro System . Im having an issue with removing the password from 2 spots : When waking up from Sleep & from Screen Saver. When I boot up it doesn't ASK that's all good! !
What I have done so far: Win Settings ( require sign in NEVER is selected ) and Run : User accounts must enter a password ( That is Un Checked ) I tried signing in and out of my Microsoft account still doesn't work!
I also did all 3 steps here! Still asks for Password after Screen Saver & Pin after Sleep!

I have Windows 10 media on a flash drive, and I was going to load it onto my other laptop that had no OS on it. I got to a screen that had said "Setup is Starting". Then, a box popped up saying," Windows cannot open the required file D:Sourcesinstall.wim. Make sure all files required for installation are available", I checked and the file is there, but I can't continue with the installation.
View 4 RepliesAs of this afternoon I am being asked to enter a password every time I wake my desktop pc even though I've set it so a password is never required. The message on my pc says, "Authentication is required when this PC wakes from sleep. Security policies on this PC are preventing you from changing this setting." The only thing I have done differently today is set up the mail app to handle my different accounts. This is frustrating.
View 8 RepliesI have Aspire V5-573G, which has all hardware requirements for Windows 10. The problem is when I tried to upgrade from windows 8.1 to 10 after 30%, the installation stops and roll backs to windows 8.1, I tried this 3 times and fed up. It gave me error "The installion failed in the FIRST_BOOT phrase with an error during BEGIN_FIRST_BOOT operation".
So I tried to do a clean install, I have booted to USB key, formatted hard drive, but it gave me error "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x800701E3". Both the way I couldn't install windows 10.
Everytime I open the messages tile, this message keeps popping out, authentication required, continue or cancel. What's this about? I'm on windows 10 mobile.
View 2 RepliesI've had two system crashes over the past day or so with an error saying that a required component was missing. The first time gave the error code 0xc000000f and I had to rebuild the BCD and then do a refresh of the windows installation. I didn't catch the error code the second time but I believe it ended with an e. the second crash, like the first one, required boot media before it would restart, but did not require a system refresh. What could be causing these errors? I'll give my system info below.

We have written several programs in VB.2010. They all have a setup and deploy project to create the MSI file. There is a launch condition for a specific file.
This same technique is used in many other programs we have. All work in Windows 7, 8, etc. but not in Windows 10.
The file is there where it supposed to be.
Some programs work using the same exact file in Windows 10 and some do not. All work on Windows 7, 8.
The file is QBFC13.dll and is in C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesIntuitQuickBooks Search Target is [CommonFilesFolder]IntuitQuickBooks

During the Local account changing process(From Microsoft Account). I have changed my username from existing one to new one and i leave the password fields as empty. After the completing the process. i restarted my laptop and i try to re-login. Now password required to Login.
View 5 RepliesWake up this morning and wife's PC demands a Microsoft Password in order to operate the computer. I know nothing of Microsoft passwords - never needed one before. The solution: Log on to the Internet to reset the password -- BUT you cannot log on to anything without the password. Research on another computer reveals the cute trick of holding down the shift key while restarting in order to get back to a previous build of Windows - BUT you need to do this as an administrator - which you can do by signing into Windows - FOR WHICH YOU NEED A PASSWORD!

Having problems with Windows 10 asking for credential verification multiple times? I can get this multiple times a day. I also tried deleting all the credentials related to my account & it appeared to work temporarily & then went back to having credential problems again.. I believe it's something server side because I can verify & then sometimes immediately you are asked to verify again or few minutes/hours later it asks again.
When I look at my account online, sometimes it will show multiple "Surface" computers with the same S/N or with no S/N (Now this doesn't always happen)
I also notice with my email accounts (While using the native Win10 email app) it will state my account is out of date & it will no longer send/receive emails. This happens on 2 MS accounts & 1 gmail account. I have actually reinstalled Win10 & the problem has only gotten worse. Before it used to only happen maybe once every few days.
When Win10 needs verification again, sometimes the store apps will won't open until you verify again. All regular desktop apps continue to work just fine during this process. Also, updates to Win10 & the store apps may stop updating if it's not verified once again.
My present Windows 7 computer has the C: Drive (OS) and two additional storage drives, D & E. When getting reading to do a clean install of Windows 10, is it necessary to electrically remove the storage drives in case of any conflicts, if any, during the installation of Windows 10 or can they remain intact during the clean installation of Windows 10?
