Still trying to update to windows 10. Have updated windows 7 w/sp1 and have checked that my computer is ready for update 10. Everything goes great until final shut-down and restart. Then I get black screen with Blue Flag and locks up, will not go any further. After 5 hours of waiting tried turning off and it restarted and gave this error message: Instalation failed in the safe OS phase with error during Boot. 0xC1900101-0x20017

Okay, so I reserved my free copy of Windows 10 a few days ago, and tried to install this morning. It all seemed to be going smoothly... then everything disappeared, and I was left with a black screen for three hours. Finally in frustration I powered off and on again; The blue windows 10 logo appeared, and the loading wheel span for a few seconds, followed by the black screen again - no cursor or anything. I can't enter safe mode, either - it makes a really violent buzzing sound whenever I hit F8. I'm worried my laptop is irreparably damaged... I'm upgrading from Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop (or trying to).

I've been having a problem with upgrading to Windows 10. I've tried using the tool both by running it on my PC and putting it on a USB. It gets through the first part of copying files and does the first reboot, then it starts back to the screen and the Installing Features and Drivers sits at 0% for a few seconds then resets and restores my old version with this error:
0xC1900101 - 0x30018 - The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with the error during SYSPREP operation.
When I originally looked this error up I read that it might be an encryption error so I decrypted both of my drives, ran the install again.. Same error. So now I am at a complete loss as to what to do so I can get myself upgraded.

I have Win 10 installed and activated on one computer - Asus z97 Deluxe/USB 3.1 mobo - but it ABSOLUTELY refuses to install on another computer - EVGA z97 Classified mobo. Regardless of the method - and I have tried all I know of - I ALWAYS get the same message: "Installation failed 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during Boot Operation".
All bootable win 10 USBs and DVDs refuse to boot. Out of desperation I even purchased Win 10 Home (which means I simply purchased a too expensive key. I was extremely disappointed that no different software came with with the purchase. Some of the solutions I have found are so difficult I might have been able to write a C++ program that would be much simpler.

I am running Windows 10 onmy HP Pavillion. I upgraded from Windows 7 around a month ago. Recently I was running a disk battery calibration check and after I restarted from that I get the message when I login that the "User Profile Failed the Logon. User Profile Cannot Be Loaded". From everything I have seen online it sounds the best method is to login under safe mode as an admin and either create a new user profile or repair the current one.
Now the problem is when I go to advanced startup options and select safe mode, it starts up but then asks me to login using one of my two accounts. Neither is the administrator as this doesn't show up for me. The current account that I am getting error obviously won't work under safe mode and the other account I don't remember the password. I inserted a travel/jump drive to try and change the PW on this but it wouldn't work. So basically I have no way of getting to start it up as an administrator. The local PC place said WIndows 10 has had known issues with this. However I had this problem happen with Windows 7 too so I am not sure.

I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.

I've tried downloading and installing Windows 10 via the System Update for the past 24 hours (I've tried it 5 separate times). Every time it gets to 84% overall, and 36% configuring settings, then goes to a black screen with nothing on it (including no cursor) and almost no HDD activity. This has happened all five times.

Intel Core i7-2600 CPU

Upgrading from windows 7 to 10, started install at around 10:30am and left it....around 2:30pm it started the large circle with the % in the centre, and again left it for another hour or so and came back to a black screen, no cursor or anything.
I waited until about 7:30 and still nothing and did a reboot by holding the power button down. On restarting, I get the windows 10 logo with the spinning dots, and then it cuts to black with no cursor. The CPU light does what it would usually do on startup, and when it first cuts to black but then the screen seems to change to a different black (if that makes sense?!) and the light only blips extremely quickly with a long period before it blips again
i know this is another update gone wrong post but I can't seem to find any with the same problem, just similar ones. I've read it can take a long time, but it's been nearly 11 hours and is very frustrating!
i'm not mega pc savvy, I get 2 options when I boot, and I've looked and there's no option for me to do a safe boot, or to revert back go windows 7. If I leave it on black screen for too long it automatically goes into sleep mode.

I have been trying to download windows 10 on my laptop (windows 7). It does the download and looks like it is all downloading fine and it starts rebooting and then it goes to a blank blue screen and doesn't go off the screen. I have to turn my laptop off just to do something on it, it then restores my old version of windows and doesn't download windows 10.
I then check the update and it says "failed" with the error details "code 8007002C"

I've been having some issues to get Windows 10 installed. I've got an ASUS ROG G20AJ desktop computer running an i7 processor and a GTX 760 graphics card. I got my Windows 10 update and everything went fine, and the installation process began. The problem is, when it gets to the 32 % of"Installating drivers and features", the screen goes black and I can only see the cursor. The installation process won't complete and it's been like 8 hours now. What should I do??

Installed the 'Windows 10 Login Screen Changer' that I found on this forum, clicked 'change background' and bam...black screen. I turned the computer off and on again and still black screen with a Cursor.Ctrl Alt Del does nothing. My keyboard still lights up, and pressing Windows + P brings up the project menu but doesn't solve the issue. Forgot to mention I'm running the newest build of Windows 10 and have been for several weeks without any problems.

I just attempted to install Windows 10 on my new PC. During the upgrade process, the screen went blank @ 75% and didn't come back. There was active HDD activity, so I waited until it stopped before restarting the PC.Upon restarting the PC, everything went fine and I got the "Hi" messages and so on. After that, the screen went black again and didn't come back.
After waiting, I forced-shutdown the PC and turned it back on. Windows logo appeared and everything seemed fine. Login screen appeared and I could login. After that, the cursor froze and the screen immediately turned black - and it stays that way. What's wrong?
Specs:
AMD Athlon 860k processor @ 3.7GHz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 750Ti 2GB (MSI)
1TB HDD
8GB DDR3 RAM
I'm currently using a secondary PC and may have to go back to Windows 7, but I can't seem to interact quick enough to get to the option that allows you to revert. It freezes and goes black before I can.I tried tapping F8 on boot but nothing happens, it goes straight to Windows logo.

I installed Windows 10 yesterday and I had kept my laptop on power and I went away for a bit and when I came back a couple of hours later, my laptop's screen was black but the lights on the laptop blinked so as to show that it had just restarted. So I waited for it to start, however the screen is black and there's absolutely nothing happening.
I googled the problem and found that people could see a cursor or a pointer on their screen but it's not coming for me. Also, my laptop is a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 14z. I need to access my computer, I have to travel in a week. Also, I was updating from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, and I don't have any CD for Windows 8 as it came pre-installed with it, with the shopkeeper telling me that Windows 8 comes installed in the BIOS so there's no CD. Anyway, I really need to access my laptop asap? I have got absolutely no clue as to what I should do.

I was in Windows 10 setup using the Media tool. I have reached the step where it restarted then a big circle came up with three parts under saying like "Copying Files" and other two things. Then, suddenly it restarted and only a black screen was there. No cursor, sounds, screen. Now I am installing Windows 10 again but fearing the same will happen again. This is NOT a black screen at the log screen; I have not even finished the installation yet and get a black screen.

I tried upgrading my windows 7, but failed 5 times.
step 1 on copying files are 100%

It's always stuck at 75% step 2 and when go to step 3 is freeze ( 5 times in row, I'm thinking give up or buy new laptop with windows 10)... I'm currently downloading ISO file to blank DVD hopefully it's works....
