Dec 1, 2015I knew better but with the constant nagging for me to update...I accepted the update. This is where the problems started. My HP dv7 took the update and now only shows a sun burst and blue like screen...mouse works but will not do anything else...tried to boot in safe mode but nothing doing there either...... how to just get back to my win 7 home pre.

Sep 29, 2015Over the weekend I upgraded from 8.1 (which was working perfectly) to Windows 10. Unfortunately, it had a few problems - namely that it would 'hang' at random intervals (5 minutes to 5+ hours). In an attempt to isolate what was causing this, I was advised to use Msconfig to do a clean boot.
Unfortunately, in the process, I have rendered my PC near-useless, as I accidentally ticked the box "Use original boot configuration" under Selective startup. (I know, I know. I'm so cross with myself.) As a result, I am now presented with what looks like my old boot screen - offering Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 with Media Center, but no Windows 10.
(I originally had Windows 7 on what is now my D: drive. I ended up dual booting with this and Windows 8, but I'm pretty sure the version of 8.1 - which I've just upgraded to Windows 10 - was a clean install. It's certainly on my SSD (C: drive).)
Anyway, by using Change defaults... - Choose other options - Troubleshoot - Start-up Settings, I was at least able to bring up the screen that gives you Safe Mode as an option. This allowed me to boot into Windows 10 Safe Mode.
I went back to MSConfig and eventually found a way to deselect 'Use original boot configuration' (it was greyed out for a while). However, on restart, it still showed me the old options, i.e. no sign of Windows 10 Pro. It seems the only way I can currently boot into Windows 10 is via Safe Mode.
I've tried various things today - I tried to use Bcdedit to force it to look at the C: not D: drive, and I've tried booting with a Windows 10 DVD and using the Repair option (but partway into the repair process it starts thinking it's a Windows 8 machine again...).
I've just 'spoken' to a chap at Microsoft and he is adamant that there's no alternative (because there's no Refresh option under Settings - Update & Security - Recovery) but to reinstall Windows 8.0, and then upgrade to 8.1 and then Windows 10. As you can imagine, I really, really don't want to go down that route. But, at the moment, I can't even roll back to 8.1.
Given that I can still - sort of - boot into Windows 10, the correct MBR/BCD/whatever must still be on my C: drive somewhere, surely?

Aug 23, 2015I recently installed Windows 10 from 8.1 on my HP pavilion laptop (I got it just over a year ago, not sure the exact model). All I did was go through the free upgrade process.
Everything seemed to work fine in the first 24 hours, but now I encounter a blue screen with grey lines when I try to boot. Eventually, after a few attempts (on its own) at rebooting, I get to the repair/restore screen. System restore hasn't worked in the few times I've attempted it, and I can only boot up in safe mode without networking.
I have no media disc for Windows 10 or anything like that, and I'm relatively inept in programming.

Dec 31, 2015I have a Lenovo P580 laptop. The screen wire got shorted out, so I just always connected it to a TV and never really had a problem. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1. After getting that issue with the start menu and cortana not working, I tried the make another profile, etc stuff from the internet. I changed my laptop to always load into safe mode using command prompt... NOW, every time it loads up, it loads into safe mode... only problem is I can't see it or do anything because the output for my tv doesn't work.
So... I bought a new wire for the laptop screen... nothing. Bought a new screen... nothing. So I assume the motherboard is damaged... The HDMI and VGA ports worked up till I set it to boot into safe mode...
Is there anything I can do? short of replacing the motherboard?

Jul 30, 2015Okay, so I reserved my free copy of Windows 10 a few days ago, and tried to install this morning. It all seemed to be going smoothly... then everything disappeared, and I was left with a black screen for three hours. Finally in frustration I powered off and on again; The blue windows 10 logo appeared, and the loading wheel span for a few seconds, followed by the black screen again - no cursor or anything. I can't enter safe mode, either - it makes a really violent buzzing sound whenever I hit F8. I'm worried my laptop is irreparably damaged... I'm upgrading from Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop (or trying to).

Oct 16, 2015I installed Windows 10 on a MS Vista OS, Viao laptop about a month ago. Everything has been fine. I've been learning how to use Windows 10, and have been more or less happy with it.
On October 16, 1015, I booted the laptop just like I do every morning around 8:30 am. I got past the loading screen, got the Loading screen photo image, and then the login screen. I logged in, and got an alert that Windows 10 updates were available. Since I had 30 some minutes before I needed to actually USE the machine I told it to update. I clicked the update button, and Windows 10 partially logged me out to do the update. When windows restarted, I got past the loading screen, and got to the Login screen.
But after putting in my Windows credentials, I got a blue screen with a white circle progress indicator, and it sat like that for about 20 minutes.
I restarted by pressing the power button, but am now unable to even to the loading screen. As soon as I hear the "booting windows" sound, the blue screen with the white circle progress indicator comes up. I've tried this about 5 times, letting it sit for about 30 minutes each time.
I am trying to find a way to get into safe mode without the use of the "restart" function, but either that data doesn't exist or I am not using the correct search terms to find it.
Blue Screen Recovery Mode
Nov 12, 2015I upgraded my Toshiba laptop automatically from 8.1 to 10 when the software came out (months ago) - have had no issues with it. Then I was using my laptop then flashed blue and turned off. It now comes up with with recovery - your pc/device needs to be repaired .. Due to critical system driver missing or corrupted (see image) - I'm able to access the recovery settings - have tried refresh, system restore, automatic repair, nothing works and seems to get worse.
I've searched for the last day forums and most people seem to have boot/bcd errors and so don't work for this problem. I have a lot of personal files/photos that haven't been backed up for about a month and want to save them! I've downloaded the Windows 10 iso to a usb - but have only get semi regular access to a Mac so unsure if it's bootable.

Aug 30, 2015I have a new Toshiba C55-C5241 Laptop, which came pre-loaded with Windows 10. (See Specs)
I clean installed Windows 10 last weekend. All went very well. I just started loading programs this weekend.
I started noticing the blue screen stops yesterday. These happen coming out of Sleep. I probably never would have noticed these before because I was not leaving the machine alone long enough for it to go into Sleep. So unfortunately I do not know when the behavior started - from the beginning or after some software installation.

Blue screens are mostly "Kernal Data Inpage Error" and the more serious "Critical Process Died", both I understand to be processor related.
I did not have the presence of mind to test or check any of this early on. But I do have images of the original factory installation and of the fresh, clean install (before any customization or software installs). I do not believe that I ever tried Sleep Mode on the original factory installation.
The stops happen very consistently when on battery power, less so when plugged in. For a while I thought they did not occur when plugged in - this was not the case. They seem to be more consistent when manually going into sleep, not so much when it goes into sleep from Power Settings.
All of the drivers in the clean install were the same as the drivers in the factory installation (at the time I finished). I did not turn off automatic driver update for a few days. I will check the driver list for changes later.
Software installed (in order) : Avast!, Firefox, Office 2010 (H&S), Nitro Reader, VLC (64 bit), Handy Address Book (a prog I've been using for years), Malwarebytes, CCleaner (never run), and Winamp. I am thinking of restoring the clean install image today (start over). Just to see if the behavior started then.
Blue Screen At Boot Up - Resume From Hibernation
Oct 21, 2015I have been using Win10 since July. It has been working fine. Just recently I noticed a blue screen at boot up stating, "resume from hibernation". I have never used hibernation in my life. Sleep mode, yes. Hibernation, no. But I have an SSD and don't use sleep anymore. I do a full shutdown every time. I noticed the same issue on my Dad's Win10 computer.
The reason I am asking is I want to boot from a USB flash drive, but "resume from hibernation" will not allow that.
Blue Screen - Unmountable Boot Volume

Sudden Boot Loop Into Blue Screen
Feb 15, 2016I woke up this morning to a constant boot loop into blue screen that gives me a memory_management blue screen error and restarts then occasionally gives me a driver_corrupted_expool blue screen.
It tries to start up automatic system repair which fails and works very rarely. Once i am in the system repair screen i try the startup repair and it just doesn't do anything and redirects me back to the blue screen boot loop. I had restarted my PC this morning after it was working and then it just randomly started doing this boot loop.
I need fixing my issue with a bootable USB program i can use to fix the drivers or something. I need every other option other than reinstalling windows because i have tons of files i need on here.
BSOD :: Flips Out On Boot With A Blue Screen 50% Of Time
Feb 10, 2016My Win10 laptop flips out on boot with a blue screen, right before/after you can see the mouse. It never reboots when it says it will. And it seems to blame my graphics card for this, as Catylitst Controll on logging claims that there is no AMD driver or thats its malfunctioning. I have to reinstall it to get my computer working better than a snail's pace, and for Catylist Controll to reconise it.Will get a dump of the error, just gotta restart a few times, as i accidently deleted the error dump and used disk cleaner.

Laptop Will Not Boot And Is Stuck On A Blank Blue Screen
Sep 18, 2015I downloaded and installed the Windows 10 upgrade on Tuesday. Since then my Dell Vostro 3550 laptop will not boot and is stuck on a blank blue screen. I took my laptop to Geek Squad at Best Buy yesterday and he told me Windows 10 is installed but it will not boot. He loaded their MRI operating system with my CD/DVD drive and he told me my files are still on my laptop. They wanted $100.00 to get my files of my laptop into a flash drive. The flash drive cost $30-40. In order for them to fix my laptop, I would have to pay $200.00 for a one year service contract. Then, to solve the problem, they would delete all of my programs, and possibly all my files, from my computer. That totals a minimum cost of $340.00 and that is if they do not find anything else wrong. I told them I could not afford that and I took my laptop home.
When I got home, I tried again to boot my computer and I got this message: WDF_VIOLATION. I ran a pre-boot diagnostic and I got error code 2000-01 42. Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful. Status = 7. I looked online for information on this error code and found people saying that this means the hard drive has gone bad and needs to be replaced.My laptop was absolutely fine before I downloaded Windows 10 on Tuesday. Now my hard drive is destroyed and my laptop will not boot!
Unable To Boot - Stuck On Blue Screen With Spinning Dots
Feb 23, 2016I returned home from work today to find that my computer won't boot. Great, it's going to one of those weeks... After the bios screen and the windows 10 logo, the computer hangs on the following screen, blue background with the spinning white dots. It looks like it's trying to log in, but it gets stuck. The dots never freeze, or at least not in the hour or two I've left it- it just keeps spinning and trying to log in. Before I go further, I'll give you some specs:

Ok, where was I. The strange part about this is that everything was working fine yesterday, and I didn't really do anything since then. I upgraded from W 7 to 10 months ago and it's been working fine. There were no windows updates yesterday (Feb 22nd), and I didn't install any other driver or system updates. In fact the only things I did install were the Steam VR test and a game on steam. Nothing else was changed since the last time it booted properly.
Now, onto what I've tried. I'm at a bit of an impasse here because I can't really get the computer to do anything. Booting into bios works, but that's about it. I can't get into safe mode (W10, F8 doesn't work, can't restart into it from desktop, or from login screen).. I've messed around with cables inside the tower, plugged and unplugged hard drives. In the course of restarting many times, I got a "bios corrupt" error, after which it started recovering into the secondary bios (losing all my OC settings and other bios settings). But the problem persisted.
I then tried updating my bios, but I keep getting "invalid file" messages when I try to update from bios/Qflash. Finally, I didn't have a W10 recovery drive, but I downloaded one from Microsoft. Startup repair says it cannot find any issues, and attempting a system restore gives me the error "you must specify which windows installation to restore. Restart, select OS, then select system restore." that doesn't seem useful. Ok, on to command prompt. Trying to enter safe mode from here gives me a "boot config data could not be opened. System device not found."
