Booting Up And Getting To The Home Screen With Task Bar Can't Open Window
Oct 22, 2015
Updated to 10 and it's been working ok but now after booting up and getting to the home screen with task bar I can not get the main window to open. If I open an app (left click opens the menu ok) ie Firefox it shows in the task bar and the small window appears but the main window will not open. It probably something simple but I am stuck.
I recently upgraded to window 10 from window 7 with iso file. I didn't had internet access then, but my window run successfully. Later, when i tried to attach another display with Laptop it did not detect it. So, i installed the windows updates. But after installing i was unable to boot into windows. A black screen with blinking cursor appears right after the Dell Logo. I am only able to go into bios setup by pressing F2, no safe mode option. I tried making a bootable Pen drive for repair but even it wasn't detected. I already change the boot priority in bios menu. Therefore i am unable to fresh install the window as laptop cd drive is not functioning from quite some time.
It's a minor annoyance but once every 5-10 tries the mouse will fail to grab a program or explorer window when it should be dragging it across the screen. I'm positive it's not an issue with my wired mouse because I never had problems before Windows 10. Just to make sure I used the mouse to drag files and folders around over 100 times with perfect accuracy, so it's definately something funky related to just the title bar of any program.
I did some exploring with the search window & set it up in Cortana, but I don't like it & would like to know if/how I can revert/change it back to say, "Search The Web or Computer" vs. "Ask me anything." I don't understand ho The Reminders work; is it only for that day (or I thought you could set up a reminder for a future day/like in a calendar.
Have run into a wired issue, and I'm not quite sure why. After upgrading to Windows insider build 10565 I am not able to open bing.com as my homepage in either Edge or Internet explorer 11. I can open any other page without issue, but not Bing. If I set google as my home page... first time every time, no problem, set it back to Bing...Can not find requested page pops in after about 30 seconds of trying to connect. Have cleared cache, run DISM diagnostics, nothing reports as an issue. If I set Bing as a Favorite in the favorites bar, open to google as my home page then click the link, it opens without issue, but when set as the home page... How to correct it.
Now it won't open from the favorites link either, same message: This page can't be displayed
Make sure the web address Bing is correct.Look for the page with your search engine. Refresh the page in a few minutes.
In windows 10, when i left click the start menu (the little 4 boxes on bottom left) search bar, anything on the right side like time and date/sound/ network, etc nothing opens up at all.
EDIT: IF I SWITCH MY SEARCH BAR TO A ICON AND LEFT CLICK IT AND PUT IT BACK TO NORMAL MY SEARCH BAR WORKS BUT NOTHING ELSE. AND I HAVE TRIED THIS COMMAND TO FIX IT BUT IT DID NOT WORK Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"} INSTEAD IT MADE MY WINDOWS STORE HAVE NO ICON AND IT CRASHES WHEN I OPEN IT AND FOR SOME REASON THE NAME OF THE WINDOWS STORE IS SOME WEIRD CODING STARTING WITH
sfc /scannow found nothing and i cant right click any programs like firefox, if i rightclicked it in the toolbar nothing pops up.
Firefox 43.0.2 and Win 10 ... when use Cortana and speak 'Open Firefox', Firefox starts but does not open at the defined Home Page ... instead starts at a Google search with a search argument of "Open Firefox".
Firefox is defined to be the default browser and after FF starts the Home Page can be accessed by clicking the 'Home page icon'.
When FF is started without using Cortana, the Home page is displayed.
Can a file folder open it it's own window all by itself without any of the drive's other folder structure showing? I have certain folders I must refer to frequently and I'd like to create a shortcut which would pop one open in a new window without having to wade through the whole drive's folder structure. This was normal on my last pc running XP but I can't seem to duplicate in Win10.
Running Windows 10 and whenever I tried and right click a file and select "Open with" I don't that that small window to appear and show me what apps to select. The window where the file is on loses focus but nothing happens until I click or press a key.
I've been using windows 8 since it was about a month old, and this always worked this way for me, if I am in file explorer looking at pictures and i open one, a window opens for the image viewer then if i go back to the file explorer and click another picture it will open in the same window that the other picture was in.
now when i upgraded to windows 10 it made me use the new win10 photo viewer, it was ok but it always opened pics in a new window. so i found out you could use the old win8 photo viewer in win 10 so i did that, but it still opens in a new window every time.
is there any way to make each picture open in the same window like it did in windows 8?
This is the error message I'm getting; "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The of folders cannot be opened. The operation failed".
I have tried the following;
- Running outlook.exe /resetnavpane
- I have ran the SCANPST.EXE program.
- I have also COMPLETELY uninstalled Office (using REVO Uninstaller, which removes registry entries also) and reinstalled it.
What happens now, after a fresh install, is that Outlook just will not open. It's looking for a PST file, and if I point it to any of the 3x PST files I had before this issue it gives the error as above. So why should a clean install not have a PST file?

When I want to open some picture in windows 10 photo viewer he open separate window with some album and other stuff, and I don't want that, I just want to see that photo that I open. I am really struggling with this new photo viewer, is there any fix or something to force that photo viewer to just open my photo when I click on her and not the other window with albums too.
I've been fighting properties window since I installed window 10... I use this function a lot. The problem is the properties window opens in the background. So I have to minimize all the windows I have open to see the properties window. The weird thing is the properties window is the only one that does that, When I open a new window of anything it opens in the forground. Is there a way to force the properties window open in the forground.
Do you see how his web tabs appear in the taskbar? I remember that from when I was a kid and I was using XP and I'd like that back but I can't find a way to enable it, and I'm not sure what that's called.
Whenever I open a folder and position it on desktop whereI want it to be, after closing and reopening it again, it repositions. With a few opening-closings I realized that every time I open the folder anew, it gets repositioned a bit lower, diagonally. This wasn't happening on Windows 8.1. Is there any way to keep the folder in the same position every time I open it?
In IE, there was a setting to open links (e.g., ones selected by shift-clicking, or ones with a target attribute in the anchor tag) into a new window instead of a new tab. I can't find a way to do this in Edge - in general, the number of user-adjustable settings seems to be MUCH smaller in Edge. Is there a way?
It only happens when I open the Downloads folder from Quick Access and This PC.
I've already checked the Folder Option. Launch folder windows in separate process and Open each folder in its own windows both are unchecked and I also tried everything that I've found, but nothing works
I downloaded Windows 10 several hours ago. Nothing in the lower task bar will open. When I left click on the start button, nothing happen. When I right click, I get a menu but nothing will open. When I click in the "Search" area, no cursor appears. I don't know how to get to my pictures or documents.
Why is my start button (or anything else in lower task bar) not working?
Also - I use Avast security protection. Since I downloaded Windows 10, my firewall is turned off with Avast. I clicked a button to turn it on, but I am not being allowed to do so. Do I need to change something in the Windows 10 settings. First I need to learn how to pull up the settings since the start button is not working.
I tried the powershell command, but it did not work. Is there any quick fixes to this? I'm not ever good with OS related problems! Also, I can't use cortana, so I am guessing this is definitely an OS related problem.
My laptop pulled down the latest Technology Preview a few days ago and now my Wi-Fi is totally messed up. I cannot even open the network settings from the task bar icon.
If you have an on board Intel graphics controller as well as an add on graphics card, windows thinks you have one more monitor connected than you actually have. so when windows loads its outputting the video signal to a bogus monitor.firstly wait long enough so the mouse cursor to appear when you move the mouse.(blank screen with a white mouse cursor). Then press the space-bar and enter your login password or pin (yes your doing this blind)
You should now be logged into windows.if the desktop dose not appear after 30 seconds then press WindowsKey-P down arrow twice and enter.
My pc which i recently upgraded to windows 10 a few months ago without any issues, now its not booting up windows. It starts and i can access the bios page but after that i get a black screen with a blinking small dash/line.
