I am trying to block all porn sites on the laptop that I let kids play on. I tried using the hosts file to block them, I found a huge list of porn sites to block. But when I tried to load other sites like Facebook, YouTube, etc. It will take forever to load as I believe it is checking the whole list of sites.
Now what am wondering is there anyway of doing it and not have any difference with the speed of any other website? Because youtube should just come up with no issues. But with all those sites in the host file it takes forever.
I can open the sites, type in my ID and password and the original screen pops back up asking me to log in. I went over to the Google browser and was able to get in with no problem. This has started only after installing Windows 10.
I have been looking how to add a site to "Top sites"in Edge. Also tried to find out in the past how to do it with IE.in my favourites, I store many websites. But the sites I use daily, I would like to add to top sites.I would not like to wait until Edge decides when to add it to top sites. If I find an interesting website, I would like to force Edge to add it to "top sites".
I've found two sites (so far) that have scrolling compatibility issues with Edge. Musician's Friend: Musical Instruments Store is one and the other is the Cakewalk/Sonar forum [URL] ...
In either site, I can scroll (vertically) through front pages without problems. But, when I get into individual threads, for example, and try to scroll though them, either scrolling slows down to very slow or stops.
It would seem to be a setting in Edge, as I have another desktop (my recording studio backup system) with the same version of Win 10 (Pro 64 bit) and it does not do it in that system.
I've reset, to default, all the settings I could find in Edge.
I'm using Windows 10 Pro, 64 Bit, and the "Top Sites" on the Startup page seems to have disappeared. I don't remember installing any software or drivers lately.
I installed Windows 10 a couple of days ago and really like it so far. I have been trying out the new MS Edge browser. I noticed up towards the top in Top Sites it would populate with websites I visit frequently. Kind of like it did in IE previously when one would click on a new tab and it would show the top frequented sites. Makes it easy to return to them.
So this afternoon I noticed in Edge, suddenly the top sites field was blank all the way across.
Why this would have blanked out? I did not do any clearing out of anything...
This happened two weeks ago. almost 30 percent of images on facebook will not load. some web sites or pages will not load, for example [URL] ...... for this site I'm getting SSL connection error ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR in Chrome. I try http and I get a blank page. I tried opening this site on Firefox, Edge and still the same. The same goes for Facebook. I tried on other browsers and still some images wont load. I do not have a third party antivirus/firewall. tried disabling windows defender ( including firewall) and still the same.
I have two VMs , Win 8 and Ubuntu 14.04. everything is working fine on these two VMs. so I'm quite sure something is wrong with my Win 10 but cannot think of anything. I was thinking it is most probably a firewall issue, so I'm posting in Security section.
I oftentimes will use the top sites list to click on a webpage, I click on a new tab and that list is populated with the 8 most used sites I go to. Oftentimes, I will click on a new tab and suddenly the list is totally blank. I can close Edge out, reopen it, and it is populated once again.
Does not appear to be any rhyme or reason to it, seems to be totally random when it happens. And when it does, only way to get them back is to close Edge out and reopen it.
I can set an alias in the hosts file on a win7 machine and access it just fine but doing the same in Win10 prompts for creds that never work even when entered correctly. What did win10 change?
hosts file entry: 127.0.0.1 hostname alias
ip - works fine hostname -works fine alias - Prompts for creds and creds don't work
I have gone to the extent of fully disabling UAC from reg, same outcome. Network and file sharing is set to password access and not homegroup. Simple file sharing is off.
Something to note. I always disable ipv6 form the adapter but when I ping my hostname it shows the ipv6 loopback. Why is that? When I ping the alias it returns 127.0.0.1 ipv4 loopback that was entered in the hostname.
I have a custom hosts file which has a lot of entries redirecting back to 127.0.0.1 (this is normal). One of my DNS servers is being updated, so I added a new entry to the hosts so I could get to my sites. This worked fine.
After about 30 minutes I noticed I'd lost access to my site and when I checked my hosts file it's reverted back to how it was first thing this morning. All of my custom entries are there apart from the one for my server.
So something is monitoring and resetting it.. I've ZoneAlarm firewall and anti virus, avast anti virus and super anti spyware installed. I'm assuming it's one of them, but I'd like to be sure.
Is there any way to monitor the hosts file and see who/what is changing it ?
I have changed from W7 to W10 but find that although I am logged in as the administrator, I am unable to save any changes to my hosts file and get the message that I don't have accees/permission and should contact the administrator.
I am trying to add some information to hosts file in windows 10 but unable to save the changes - it is prompting access denied message. suggest the way to edit and save hosts file.
My hosts file grew to 900mb because of a n00b programming mistake. This caused the internet to be unusable. When I try to edit/delete it, it says Cryptographic Services is using it.
I tried to download a RAR file from a trusted web site but the file is blocked from down loading it keep coming up that the file has a Virus in it, I contacted the Admin of the site they say the file is fine so why is windows 10 Blocking a trusted web site Downloads ? [URL] ....
I cannot use the Microsoft print to pdf feature on my Lenovo laptop from the Windows 10 Home Edge browser. The print screen shows a blank preview. Print to pdf does work on the laptop from any other app such as Word, OneNote, etc.
I can print to pdf from Edge on my desktop running the same version of Windows 10 and Edge.
I have completely uninstalled the print to pdf feature on the laptop, all the way to uninstalling the print server drivers and disabling the feature in the Windows 10 installation. And then enabling and reinstalling it. I still cannot print to a pdf file from Edge on the laptop. It is not a print problem, as this feature does work on all other apps/programs.
I have a provider who has emailed me numerous times a password reset. His notice that the password reset e-mail had been sent, yet I never receive the password reset email. I email him back and he says it was sent! I have checked spam, junk, and every other place I could think of and its not there? I don't know where the problem lies, Windows? Outlook? Server? My ISP said they do not block or screen emails.
I am using incredimail and keep getting a message "ima file is not associated with incredimail do you wish to associate it YES NO" neither make any difference .It seems to have come and gone with different builds.
I have a few problems with Edge. On my desktop edge will not display any .pdf files. I get a "something prevented edge from displaying this file" or some such thing.
I then switch to IE11 and all is fine. Adobe reader is installed.
On my laptop, edge will not download anything. I did the edge reset,
