Feb 10, 2016I turned on the system and Edge won't work but IE11 does. How do I change this.

View 9 RepliesI am having a problem whereby my default browser keeps changing from IE11 back to either Edge or blank. Why this might be happening or what program is causing it to change? I thought it maybe the Windows Auto Update that keep changing but am now not so sure of that since the last recorded update is back on 14th January and my default Browser got changed again last evening.
The only other programs that run regularly are Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities. However, I have been through the settings of both of those programs and cannot detect anything that would indicate that they change the default Browser.
Also, in IE11 under the advanced tab I have ticked the option the "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser" and yet (a) I do not get a notification and (b) the default browser keeps getting changed.
Before I wiped my Windows 7 install, I exported my IE11 favorites into an HTM file, "bookmark", by using IE11's "export" feature.
My clean Windows 10 install only has 2 browsers: Edge and Chrome. I do not want to install IE11.
How do I get the saved favorites/bookmarks to be imported into Edge? There is no browse function. Edge only allows an automatic import, and that seems to require a functioning IE11 install.
Since the last update I have had to deal with popups in Edge (even though its on in the settings). Any good popup blocker that's not going to make W10 more complicated than it already is from time to time?
View 2 RepliesHow do you enable the "Cleaner Reading" panel. Mine just shows a blue area and stops.
View 3 Replieswhen open IE11 in win 10 Pro 32 bit ver.1511, it wont open all site but when i open IE11 run as admin... then works prefect. Chrome and mozilla works like a charm. I am creating prefect image from dreams for my company but IE11 is tough.
View 8 RepliesIs it possible to move the command bar?
When I click at the extreme left, I get a 4 pointed arrow which suggest I can move it, but it will not (yes I have unlocked it!).
Just noticed that clicking on this option doesn't open it in file explorer like it does on my Windows 7 machine. I can browse my FTP drive fine from within internet explorer 11. It's not a major issue as I can type the address in file explorer and get it that way. It's just a little frustrating this option doesn't work.
View 1 RepliesI've been noticing a slower than normal connection/download speeds for youtube videos. All other file and video streaming sites and file downloads use my full bandwidth speed while youtube sometimes streams at half or less my full bandwidth speed. I use youtube's stats for nerds connection speed and task manager for my readings.
Things I've noticed with youtube:
1. The more youtube videos I watch the slower/lower the connection speed is for youtube videos. I don't have this problem with other sites.
2. Deleting the cookies for google.com and youtube.com along with the temporary internet files doesn't restore full connection speed.
3. A larger file cache is used when you select your quality manually vs auto with the same quality.
Things I have changed in windows:
1. Change Maximum Download Connections per Server Limit in Internet Explorer is set to 16 in group policy.
2. Limit reserved bandwidth is set to On and 0% in group policy.
3. Internet explorer data space to use is set to 1024MB.
Favorites have become inaccessible during the process of Organizing Favorites. My IE Favorites were on OneDrive long before upgrading to Windows 10. I have used IE11 in Windows 10 for 2 weeks. Since using Organize Favorites in one sub-folder the IE Favorites I see in the Favorites menu are no longer what is on OneDrive.
Clicking on Favorites in the Menu Bar I see only the one folder I Organized, with one sub-folder, and the sub-folder is empty. Clicking on Organize Favorites, I see all of the Favorites I expect to see, with the one folder I had previously Organized at the top of the list, sorted out of alphabetic sequence. If I look at Favorites on OneDrive they look normal. If I look at this Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUser Shell FoldersFavorites
The data in that key points to the OneDrive Favorites folder as expected. The IE11 Favorites Bar is visible and active even though the Favorites menu is hosed.
One more piece of weirdness - clicking on the star icon in the upper right corner (View Favorites, feed and history) results in the correct display of Favorites. So Favorites accessed by the star icon and by Organize Favorites (under Favorites in the Menu Bar) are displayed correctly, but clicking on Favorites in the Menu Bar results in a useless display.
Edit added - I turned IE11 off in Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off. After a required restart I turned IE11 back on. Favorites displayed in the Menu Bar are incorrect. How can I reset Favorites in the Menu Bar to show the contents of the Favorites folder on OneDrive?
Since installing the November Windows 10 update (11/17/15) none of my favorites are being stored in the default Edge folder. While in Edge the favorites are available but when I go to the default folder they are not listed. Is there another location they may be being saved or has my default location somehow been changed? My AppData folder shows a creation date of 11/17/15 with no modifications being made in favorites since that date.
View 1 RepliesSo we have these tools that need elevated rights within IE to install correctly. In windows 7 we always did the right click, run as admin thing. However, now after the upgrade and Edge there seems to be no availability to run it as admin. Tried all the icons & right click that I can find for Edge but not getting the option anywhere.Tried also with the Edge app from /Windows/Systemapps and it didnt give the option either. Of course if I go back to IE it allows me..
View 9 RepliesEdge is a great browser! However one thing I really miss from IE is having my favorites sidebar always visible at all times. With Edge you have to select it EACH TIME and pin it to the window display. This becomes a real pain and seems unnecessary. Is it possible to configure the favorite's sidebar to be always on by default? A real extra would be to have it on the left hand side again like IE which seemed to have this facility/capability just right. The horizontal favorites across the top is useless because so few are visible. (No luck with other forums) else I'm going back to IE.
View 7 RepliesWINDOWS 10 PRO: Pursuant to the tutorial in Ten Forums, the FAVORITES folder in the EDGE browser is stored in the DataStore folder. Is that correct? Is the tutorial correct? My check of the folder indicates the tutorial was correct.
View 6 RepliesWhen I first got Win 10, the Edge browser worked great but after a time it simply quit working. The opening screen with the icon comes up but then it goes back to my desktop. I can still use Explorer but Edge had some features I liked and I would like to go back to it before too long. I have seen some comments here about proxy servers and the like but I am not brave enough to tinker with that.
View 7 RepliesI upgraded my computer to Windows 10, however I cannot play Flash content in Edge browser. It is enabled in the advanced settings in Edge and it is still not working, saying I have to update my Flash plugin, however it is supposed to be bundled with Edge.
I do not have a problem with Flash content in Chrome or IE11 browsers, but would like to be able to use Edge as well.
Now, I also encounter the following error message from Windows Update:
"Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3087040) - Error 0x800f0922"
which I guess is related to the issue of missing Flash Player in my Windows.
I mistakenly chose IE as the browser for my emails to open in when I imported my mails from outlook and I wish to change this to MS Edge. How to I go about this? I've checked in the settings, but it doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for. MY IE doesn't function as well as Edge and I'd like to correct this.
View 2 RepliesThis problem has frustrated me to no end. For some reason, flash videos on websites like Gamespot, IGN and Gametrailers will not work with the Edge browser. All I get is a black screen with sound, or most of the time without any sound at all.
Here are some of the things I've tried already:
1) Updating video card drivers. I'm running the latest NVidia drivers, version 361.75
2) Used sfc /scannow and DISM commands. sfc /scannow finds the driver opencl.dll as corrupt, but that's a well known bug. I still can't view any videos regardless of whether I'm using the Microsoft or NVidia version of that .dll.
3) Reinstall the Edge browser using this video
4) Checked whether Adobe Flash player was turned on in Edge about a million times
5) Uninstalled all Windows 10 updates (including flash related ones) and then reinstalled them.
I am wanting to remove or at least disable edge browser in Windows 10. I will never use this web browser and so would like to get it out of the way.
View 9 RepliesI've discovered one useful feature of Edge is the ability to cast video to my Sony TV. However, the playback is sometimes jerky. Is there a way optimising the playback settings when casting videos via Edge?
View 2 RepliesYesterday mid-day my Edge browser screen-font-size suddenly went from "normal" to miniscule. At the time I was reading info on a sports web-site. Just prior to that my touch-pad (ASUS laptop) suddenly reverted to having the touch-pad feature "TAP" as ON, and because I have a small shake in my hand, this feature most-often causes problems.
When I converted from Win 8.1 to Win10 a few weeks ago I immediately searched for and found the option (under ASUS Smart Gesture app) and turned all TAP features off. It worked fine until yesterday. I searched for possible solutions and discovered I could not access ASUS Smart Gesture, so I re-installed it- that feature is now turned off again, but I cannot get Edge to display in normal font-size. That's the only place it occurs
In the metro version of IE for Win8.1, you could swipe right to go back to the previous page in the browser. I cannot find any way to do that with either IE or Edge in the just released version of Windows 10.
Is there any way to simply swipe on the page to go to the previous page so that you don't have to go up to the top left corner of the screen and hit the back arrow?
I cannot use the Microsoft print to pdf feature on my Lenovo laptop from the Windows 10 Home Edge browser. The print screen shows a blank preview. Print to pdf does work on the laptop from any other app such as Word, OneNote, etc.
I can print to pdf from Edge on my desktop running the same version of Windows 10 and Edge.
I have completely uninstalled the print to pdf feature on the laptop, all the way to uninstalling the print server drivers and disabling the feature in the Windows 10 installation. And then enabling and reinstalling it. I still cannot print to a pdf file from Edge on the laptop. It is not a print problem, as this feature does work on all other apps/programs.
So I decided to give Edge another try, and seeing that I am still unable to directly import my favorites from Firefox I went around it by exporting them to a HTML file, importing them into IE and then into Edge.
Well only half of them ended up appearing in edge and I now have a ton of empty folders...so I would like to delete them all and start again but I cant find a way to completely remove them all.
After the "November update" to Windows 10, the Edge browser no longer uses a folder structure to store favorites. Instead, it now uses an Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) database. So, that means you can no longer just do a copy-n-paste in an attempt to export your favorites. I've created a demonstration project that reads from this ESE database and produces an HTML-based "bookmark.htm" file that can be used to import into other browsers (like IE, Chrome, etc.)take a look at this article for the technical details: URL....or if you're not squeamish about loading an EXE file from a hobbyist like me, you can download the executable install file from: URL...
