Browser/Email :: Stopped Downloading Buttons On Website
Feb 10, 2016
sometimes when you are looking for stuff and you reach a site you are presented with a whole confusing array of download buttons, install applications or whatever really hiding the actual download you want - sites like DriverMax come to mind for example. Finally Google is going to try and tidy up this lot -- about time too.The confusing downloads can often lead to people installing all sorts of unwanted spyware, PUPS, viruses etc etc.
I consider myself as reasonably experienced - but sometimes I've found it incredibly hard to get the actual download I'm after having navigated through endless traps of arrows etc to spurious links.Note Torrentfreak is a perfectly 100% legitimate News site so no illegal software being offered. !!!!
I was quite surprised at the lack of some of the basic features of Microsoft Edge that have been found in IE for years that are critical in my mind. One of these is the ability to have a drop down list on both the back and forward buttons in the browser to be able to quickly go to a page you've visited without having to click through each individual page.
I was hoping that Edge would get that feature in some of the updates that have taken place, including this most recent November update, but it hasn't happened yet. In the meantime, it's looking more and more like I'll return to IE.
The Microsoft Edage has changed Internet Explorer to open multiple website. I am unable to right click the Edge to open another website but keep the current one. Can you tell how to open the multiple website in the Microsoft Edge?
I have 7 "Favorites" listed in Chrome. Is there a way to transfer just these 7 to Internet Explorer? These two are installed on a Dell tablet running Windows 10. I thought it would be easier than going back and forth typing the websites. (Not using Edge).
I think after one of the accumulative updates Windows Explorer started to open MSN in my default browser. This is very annoying.
I've tested my theory by restarting Windows Explorer from the task manager. Of course restarting the computer. Disable Automatic startup of Microsoft OneDrive. I scanned my System with Malwarebytes, nothing was found.
When using any version of IE Explorer, when viewing a webpage and want to create a desktop shortcut to that webpage I would simply right click just about anywhere on the webpage and select Create Desktop Shortcut from the drop-down Menu and Presto a new icon shortcut would appear on the desktop.
However, when using MS- Edge, when I Right Click on any webpage all I get is a small drop down-down menu with no selection to create a Desktop Shortcut. I have tried every which way to create a Desktop Shortcut of something I am viewing when using Edge to no avail.
I was just wondering if it is possible to keep website as the home page but change the search engine to google? I current have the default homepage where all the news and everything are there as soon as I open edge. but I HATE bing as my search engine and would like to change it to Google search engine but keep the same home page is there anyway to do this?
Whenever I try to download anything with Edge it says "couldn't be downloaded". Every single time.
For example:
When I click on "Retry" it is always downloaded but replaces the "." before the file type with a "_".
This is what ends up in my "Downloads" folder.
So if I want to download anything I have to click on "Retry" and then go to my "Downloads" folder and rename "xxxx_zip" to "xxx.zip".
Is there a way around this? It is the "retry" that bugs me most - I understand the renaming so you don't run it by mistake - but both are a little annoying.
I'm attempting to download Win 10 64-bit Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website. On the Nvidia driver search page, after I've selected the search parameters and conducted the driver search, I come to an download button page. I click the download button and I arrive at an Agree & Download button page. When I click on the Agree & Download button, nothing happens. It's as if the Agree & Download button isn't active. Something is blocking the download.
I suspect there is a setting that is preventing the download. What are the recommended settings and where do you find them in order to set this browser to be able to download drivers?
Creating "New Email" just stopped working as it normally does. It shows in the task bar as "Untiltled - Message" but does not show in Outlook and when I click on the mini window, I only see the desktop.
This is not a problem just a observation. I noticed something strange when I went to download Brink's reg file to bring back the Photo Viewer. Either Pale Moon or Windows 10 thinks it's a .TS video file.
At some point in the last couple of weeks the Send To/Mail Recipient function has stopped working. When I select a file and do the send to, Windows starts thinking, the explorer window that I have selected this from stops taking input and then eventually, with no error messages, the explorer window closes and desktop explorer resets.
My Default mail client is Outlook 2013 (15.0.4745.1000)
For 2 weeks my "Mail" app has been frozen and I use Windows Live Mail to get emails. My "Calendar" has stopped working, can't open it up to get appointments nor to add to dates. My "People" app has never worked, I am assuming this app has all my contacts in it, have to use Live Mail for my contacts. Yesterday "Edge" would come up when I clicked on it then would flash and disappear behind the task bar but today it is working, not complaining about that. When trying to do "updates" it says it can't. When running Norton Full Scan it get stuck at Microsoft Tap Tiles.
I must have done something wrong. I unpinned all of the apps from start in order to re-organize. The apps are still listed under chrome and I put a couple of them back and of course they contain the symbol of the website. After I put the first one back, I clicked on it and instead of going to the website, it went to the chrome browser.
I have a small Apache web server which hosts a few websites. The system runs on Windows 10 Pro OS. The previous system ran on Windows 7 Pro. It was upgraded to WIndows 10 Pro about 4 months ago. After the upgrade to Win10, someone noticed that pdf files hosted on the websites were no longer opening in browsers but were being downloaded instead.
This isn't a huge issue but in cases where the pdf is large it slows down the opening time significantly and is why I had hard-coded into the sites to open the documents in the browser data stream rather than downloading them.
As I do not know what caused this, I have not been able to find a way to get it to work again. Is the change due to the way Windows 10 interprets things or do I need to update the Apache version or something else entirely.
Whenever I open a link in email I get asked which browser I want to use. I have selected Explorer as my default browser and I keep checking the box that says "always use this app" It is very frustrating. How do I make Windows 10 understand that I always want to use IE.
I use an independent email provider , not through Microsoft, which has always been fine until 16th of this month when it stopped working via my laptop and I cannot find out how to resolve the issue...
I am having a problem whereby my default browser keeps changing from IE11 back to either Edge or blank. Why this might be happening or what program is causing it to change? I thought it maybe the Windows Auto Update that keep changing but am now not so sure of that since the last recorded update is back on 14th January and my default Browser got changed again last evening.
The only other programs that run regularly are Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities. However, I have been through the settings of both of those programs and cannot detect anything that would indicate that they change the default Browser.
Also, in IE11 under the advanced tab I have ticked the option the "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser" and yet (a) I do not get a notification and (b) the default browser keeps getting changed.
After I upgraded to latest windows 10 build (1151) ,I seem to have a problem of Chrome opening the first several requested web pages after computer comes out of "sleep" mode. I get the page that says cannot connect . After I hit retry it finds it . Sometimes the web pages don't load properly ie no pictures , just a listing or the picture color is not right. After a reload it works fine. After the first few pages of problems everything works fine again. It's like Windows or Chrome is having some delays accessing the requested pages when starting from a sleep mode.
So we have these tools that need elevated rights within IE to install correctly. In windows 7 we always did the right click, run as admin thing. However, now after the upgrade and Edge there seems to be no availability to run it as admin. Tried all the icons & right click that I can find for Edge but not getting the option anywhere.Tried also with the Edge app from /Windows/Systemapps and it didnt give the option either. Of course if I go back to IE it allows me..
