Can't Pin Or Unpin To Taskbar
Sep 3, 2015I just noticed today that I am unable to right click on an item on the taskbar making it not possible to pin or unpin.

View 2 RepliesI'm a minimalist, preferring not to clutter up my screen with all kinds of icons, etc.
I used to have Cortana hidden off screen, but still able to respond to me if I said; "Hey, Cortana."
Now, recently, the icon has popped up on my taskbar, and when I go to change it, hide it, etc. I only get the options of "Show App Icons" "Show All Notification Icons" and "Show Touch Keyboard Button"
I want to use Cortana, but cut down on all of the icons on my desktop screen. I don't think it was this way before the recent W10 update.
Did the Win 10 update last night. Now I can't run my pinned Excel files ("The item you selected is unavailable. It might have been moved, renamed, or removed. Do you want to remove it from the list?") But when I say Yes, it's not removed. If I click the icon for "Unpin from this list" it is also not removed. If I right click the item on the Pinned list and click "Unpin from this list" it is not removed. If I drag the file from its folder down to the icon ("Pin to Microsoft Excel") nothing changes.
The update apparently changed the locations of all the pinned files from my nonstandard location (D:DropboxCurrent where D is my Data drive) to elsewhere (C:UsersDaveDocumentsDropboxCurrent, which location does not exist). I can't figure out how to change this. The pinned list seems to be somehow locked so I can't change it, and this is the essence of the problem.
How to unpin the search & task view from the taskbar? They take valuable space in the taskbar while they can easily be triggered with windows key shortcuts.
View 2 RepliesI can't unpin an app from the Start menu
Here's a gif of what (doesn't) happen
I can pin items to the taskbar but when I right click on an item I can't unpin. Only had this problem with 10240.
View 8 RepliesI've just upgraded to windows 10 from windows 8.1 and I'm experiencing a glitch: when I try an pin or unpin things (e.g. from the start menu or quick access menu in explorer) the icons don't move.
However in the context menu the text that said "Unpin from start" or "Unpin from quick access" changes to "Pin to start" or "Pin to quick access respectively".
I've tried doing a sfc /scannow in an elevated command prompt but it showed no errors and has made no difference.
The same thing happens when I try to uninstall apps, they don't move.
I reinstalled windows 10 on my laptop and after that the pin/unpin options is missing from the context menu (right click) to pin/unpin tiles from the startmenu.
View 9 RepliesI've upgraded from Windows 8.1 (x64) and I wanted to change my start menu tiles since I had a start menu as opposed to the start screen. Naturally, I tried right-clicking the tiles that were present and unpinning them from the start menu, but the option doesn't show up! If I try and right-click shortcuts, executable files, or menu items for programs the option to pin the item to the start menu doesn't show up.
I can pin things to my taskbar easily, but I can't pin it to start at all! I'm currently running Windows 10 Build 10240 on a 64-bit Intel i7-4500U (Dual-Core) @ 2Ghz with 8GB RAM and Intel Integrated GPU.
I've searched everywhere, and even uninstalled Cortana from Windows Features.. It's no longer running.. but i can't figure out how to unpin it from the Start Menu.
FYI: Removing hidden Windows Features:
- you'll need win6x_registry_tweak from MSFN or here's a mirror.
- you can remove Windows Defender, Adobe Flash, Search, Indexer, HyperV, etc.. completely
Available commands:
Code:
install_wim_tweak.exe /o /l
- list all packages
Code:
install_wim_tweak.exe /o /c **PACKAGE** /r
- remove package
I love Windows 10. I really do. Every time I right-click a tile, select something such as "Unpin from Start," absolutely nothing happens. The tile remains, I can reshape it, move it, just like before. I can even open it from the Start menu. When I right click the tile again, I see "Pin to Start," even though it's already there.
The thing is, when I restart my computer, all the changes have been made. Basically what I've learned is that every time I want to re-do my Start Menu, I have to restart the computer multiple times.
I had reserved my free Windows 10 upgrade for my 2-in-1 Dell Inspiron 13 7000 laptop. However, even though the application said my notification was coming, I couldn't wait. I downloaded the operating system from the Microsoft website before I received my notification. Does this premature download have anything to do with it?
This only happens with the options "Unpin from Start" and "Pin to Start."
I would like to automatize cleaning the Windows 10's start menu from all these default pinned apps that I'm not using. I don't want to remove apps, only unpin from from start.
I tried to google, but didn't find any. There seems to be no command to pin and unpin apps in start menu. Any alternative methods? The information about the configuration of start menu must be stored somewhere....
A few days ago, after an automatic Windows 10 update on my desktop computer, I found that: right clicking icons on the taskbar does nothing - none of the options appear; the start button on the left of the taskbar only works by right-clicking and accessing the old Windows 8 style options; the search icon on the taskbar does nothing; the Windows 10 calculator has disappeared - when I press the calculator key on my keyboard a message appears saying "You'll need a new app to open this calculator". It seems to have been deleted from the computer.
Until these things happened Windows 10 was working well.
I'm using Build TH1 10240 with all updates (just checked before I posted this to be sure) dual booting W7 and W10 with no known problems other than the taskbar issue.
The taskbar hides and appears fine when nothing is up but the desktop, or the settings window and other items from the computer but doesn't hide when a have IE up, I'm using IE11, just don't care much for Edge yet, maybe as time goes by I'll start using it more.
Anytime I have IE up the taskbar stays visible and will not hide, I went to properties to reset it, tried this a few times, uncheck the box>apply, then check the box>apply, after I click apply the taskbar momentarily hides and immediately pops back into view.
I know others (Jimbo) were having an issue with this on earlier builds. It didn't happen every time for me, just every once in awhile but on 10240 it's every time.
It's not a huge thing but I've always hid the taskbar and would like to do it on W10 too.
It usually takes a little while, but at some point this little gap in the taskbar appears and the only way I've ever managed to get rid of it is doing a full reinstall of Windows. Then its usually gone for little while (weeks to months) but then will come back again. Sometimes its not a gap and its a second arrow, but one that cannot be clicked. I've done an SFC and disabled some of the programs that load on startup. No change. Sometimes restarting explorer.exe works, and sometimes it doesn't.
Its there as soon as the desktop appears. This is an issue I also had in Windows 7 before I upgraded to Windows 10 (clean install)
My taskbar is gone. What should I do? More info: not start, no Win+E, no Win+R & restarting explorer doesn't work.
Also, no virtual desktop either. How can I get outa this?
i'm starting the computer like everyday and then can't click the taskbar or anything what i do to fix is CTRL+ALT+DEL and then when i see the system options i can't click anything with my mouse i only can click TAB until it gets to the Cencel tab and then enter. and after i do that fix (so called) when i click right click of something in the taskbar for example Skype i can't do anything i can't close it from there i can't unpin or pin it to the taskbar i can't do anything there
View 1 RepliesMy PC has decided to not show up my taskbar items today! The only icons are: Start button, cortana, task view and the notification center. The thing is that none of these will open and all my other icons are gone, even the date and time. I have tried to restart my pc and explorer.exe with no luck, and when i try customizing the taskbar i get an error saying there is no default control panel.
View 3 RepliesI have noticed this for a while. I have the task bar set to auto hide - this works most of the time, but, occasionally it stays up on screen and won't hide. Not the end of the world, but, it would be good have this niggle solved.
View 2 RepliesThis is an issue that has bugged me for years. Windows still cover autohidden taskbar!
When the taskbar is hidden, and any window is maximized or snapped, the mouse is sometimes unable to trigger the taskbar. I have to shrink the window before the mouse can touch the taskbar.
Wonder if this will work in 10?
Configure Shortcut thusly:
====================================
Target: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Office 15
ootoffice15WINWORD.EXE" C:
UsersPamDocumentsPHONE.DOC
Start In: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Office 15
ootoffice15"
==================================
Drag/pin to the Taskbar??? Click to open???
The new task bar calendar is off by one day. At the top of the calendar, where the time is shown, the date (day month, day and year) are correct. But the calendar below showing all the days of the month is off by one day. For example, it says today is Tuesday, August 17, 2015 rather than Monday...etc.
View 9 RepliesRecently my taskbar has decided it will not slide out of the way when I am using a program. How can I make it do as it as told again? This is not on my Pryon PC but on my HP Touchscreen PC. In the setup screen the autohide button is ticked.
View 2 RepliesHP Envy desktop came with Windows 10 Home already loaded. Set it up with my program shorcut icons in the taskbar. Everything working just fine for days, and then all of a sudden (well maybe not as I had just installed updates from MS) the taskbar no longer shows those icons and the Windows Start/Search/taskview icons on the left and the HP Support/Notification icons on the right show but all are inactive.
View 7 RepliesI have an HP Pavillion laptop that came with windows 8.1, but I have upgraded to windows 10. I upgraded on launch day and everything was fine. I went out and left my computer on, when I came back, my computer was updating in a cool sci-fi looking gui, big percentage sign, categories with their own percentages, etc. Now my taskbar doesn't work.
When I look at my taskbar as I write this, I see (From left to right). My Windows Logo, Cortana's "Ask my anything" and microphone. Task View, giant gap, my steam task menu icon, and my touch keyboard. Nothing but the steam and touch keyboard icons are interactive, and I have several things pinned on my taskbar, like my clock and google chrome. That aren't visible.
I have created a shortcut on my Desktop that will take me to a specific url - is it possible to pin this shortcut to the taskbar?
