I have this folder on my c drive named a and it uses 7GB so i would like to know if i can delete it.
I've recently been changing the target locations of some user folder (documents, pictures, videos, music) and seem to have messed something up during the process.
My 'Pictures' folder is now called 'Videos' and I can't rename it back to Pictures again. This is because its a user folder or 'shell' folder I've read. How to change it back?

There is alot of empty space to the right of my start group and I can't seem to resize it or delete it, the only way I can interact with that area is if I drag something in it and only can I rename the group.
View 1 RepliesOn my Start Menu, the All Apps doesn't always include the items I want (I solved that problem) but MS added a bunch of garbage/stuff that I do not want. If I want them, I'll add them myself. I don't need all the clutter.
Examples are Java; Get Office; Calculator; Get Skype, etc. Some aren't even installed. I don't need this stress in my life. I'm a simple man that only runs a few programs.
Any way to allow folder access through the start menu in Windows 10? By folder access, I mean like in Windows 7 you could open the start menu, then start typing C: and it would display the contents of the folder, or just type the folder path and hit enter to open it. I can't seem to do that now, and I'm not sure if I'm doing it incorrectly, it needs to be configured, or just isn't there.
View 9 RepliesI am looking for the location of the Start Menu Folder in File Explorer. I searched the internet, found it, and did some quick rearranging to the All Apps menu a few weeks back. I want to make some more changes and rearrangements and cannot seem to find this location again.
View 6 RepliesI can't seem to find a way to access my start menu folder in windows 10. I would like to remove some of the folders and programs from the "All Apps" list but I can't seem to find a way to do it. It is filling up with uninstall files inside of folders for programs that have been uninstalled along with some programs I would prefer not be shown. (Nothing bad, just nothing I would ever need to click on nor need to see). I also need to modify which programs start with windows. This was so much easier in windows 7, and I skipped windows 8 so I am not sure what to do.

I booted from USB (WinPE/Paragon) and accessed command prompt from there. Deleting the folder: invalid folder name.I can rename the folder, but not move it.
As far as I can see I am the owner/administrator and having full control on the folder...?

View 4 RepliesIs it possible to add this kind of Control Panel shortcut (like in screenshot below), with subfolder/subitem list, to windows 10, without installing Classic Shell or similar programs?
View 6 RepliesWhen I try to delete the remaining folder after uninstalling a software in Program Files I get a message: "You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder", although I'm the administrator.
View 9 RepliesI did an in place W10 upgrade on my W8.1 machine and all seems well with the update-I haven't run into any major issues at all. However, I'm aware of the new 'windows.old' folder allowing me to roll back for 30 days since the W10 upgrade and in my case its large..very large..at 172gb.
My PC, which has a 250gb HD was almost full prior to the upgrade and I chose to 'keep nothing' during the process. As I understand it I can choose to delete this now, or indeed wait until the 30 day expiration.. so would this in effect be my 'clean install' ?
I don't remember this being quite the same with the 8/8.1 process where I DID start fresh with that install. If I delete the Windows.old file then that's a clean install really right? How close to 'clean' is it?
Okay like the title says I cant delete this damn folder. The folder is Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy, this is the cortana folder that is taking up my memory usage in task manager. When I try to delete is with right click delete or "shift, delete" I click okay then it deletes kinda then pauses, then it says You need permission to perform this action, but I go to the folder properties and change my permission and still it happens like what the actual **** Microsoft.
View 1 RepliesI recently upgraded from Windows 7 to 10. My upgrade has been fairly buggy, but I am slowly working things out. One thing I can't seem to solve is my office apps are not showing up in the start menu folder. I had office 2010 before the upgrade, and that is when I first had the problem. I then uninstalled 2010 and upgraded to office 2013, and the problem persists.
After a few restarts and such I noticed the folder for office 2013 did show up in the start menu, but the only thing inside that folder is infopath. You can see what I mean in the attached screen shot. Also you will notice another folder beneath the first title Microsoft Office 2013. That folder was pinned to the start menu so that I could still access my office apps. I just did that as a quick fix. But not when I right click on that folder there is no option to unpin from the start menu. It only says pin to start menu.
I have the problem below.
1. Yesterday, I have changed Windows Apps Installation Drive to E:
-> Windows 10 created WindowsApps on E:
-> I have changed back to C: but WindowsApps folder still exist on E:
-> I can not deleted that folder.
2. I reset the Windows but I still can not delete that WindowsApps folder.
Tried manyways: Takeownership, Unlocker but It always said I must have Administrators right to delete. Of cources I am on Administrator account.
I just upgraded my Windows 8 OS to Windows 10 and it has left.Old.windows folder.with many included files on my Harddrive. I have already backed up and transferred all the files I wanted to keep from that old version and wish to delete that file and all that is in it. But it seems not to allow me to do that. I have tried numerous times with Admin privileges and it still will not allow be to delete.
View 4 RepliesI have folder which said it deleted, but remained....it had zero size....I trid adding some sub folders in the home it may trigger a proper deletion, these sub folders are now behaving in the same way....I loaded up a live Linux cd, it refused to let me delete the folders as they were not empty, or so it said.. tried the portable HDD on a laptop but after trying to delete it and changing permissions to full, it now says the lowest au folder is corrupt or unreadable..
I assume there is way to do this in DOS, but not too familiar with that....
PS I also trid unlocked, chose delete and it said success....but still the folder(s) remain
Since a while i build my own computer, and i put some of my old hard drives in here, one of these drives contains a copy of Windows that i no longer use, But i cant remove it, and it is taking up quite a bit of space, i'm not talking about a Windows.old folder, but an actual Windows folder, now i was wondering if there is a way to remove this unused copy of Windows, i tried changing the owner to myself, and removing the read only tag, without much luck ...

View 1 RepliesI ran the upgrade and now have a Windows.old folder taking up 31GBs. If you are not planning on rolling back to 8.1, you can remove this folder following these steps: Windows.old Folder - Delete in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
View 1 RepliesI am trying to delete a folder on an external hard disk that was created on another computer. First it tells me that I need administrator permissions to modify it, which I grant. Then it tells me that I need permission from dougal obert to do so, dougal obert being my own user account on the machine I am using. I have given full control in the security settings both to administrators and myself, but nothing will enable me to delete this folder.
