Can't Edit Current Documents
Jan 31, 2016Windows 10 downloaded and can't edit my current documents, why?
View 1 RepliesWindows 10 downloaded and can't edit my current documents, why?
View 1 Replieswhy my Office Word 2013 automatically makes copies of the documents I edit? These copies are numbered: *(1).docx, *(2).docx, etc. I am working on an essay and now I have ten copies of the same file.
View 9 RepliesI am using Word 2013 on my laptop. Windows 8 was operating system. Recently upgraded to Windows 10. When I save Word documents now, they are saved as Wordpad documents. (.xml files) Wordpad does not recommend some of the Word formatting and alters the documents.
How do I correct this? I want the save as Word documents, as I did in the past.
I've trying out the new preview, 10240. Everything works fine except for the default documents folder (and the same for Images). As my screenshots reveal, by default the documents and images folder are the ones with OneDrive. (My system is in Spanish, but it seems self-explanatory, I believe)
After some examination, I located the "Storage" section in the new settings window and I see that the default folder for Documents is OneDrive. However, after I set to "This PC (Drive C)" it doesn't do anything, as as soon as I close the window, the option reverts back to OneDrive.
I actually like and use OneDrive, and I had no problems with it with Win8.1. So I don't want to disable it.
So i currently have windows 10, build 10162, and i like the OS X, especially since i do video editing, and i love the workflow. The problem is, everything on my PC is optimized for windows, and some things wouldnt work on a mac, and i didnt want to spend the money on a mac. I know its possible to dualboot some OS's so i want to know if theres a way i can just add an OS to my current pc. I have an extra HDD that i could put it on. And i want to put Yosemite on it, and i also have an intel CPU, nvidia card, which i believe is necessary for a hackintosh.
View 1 RepliesI no longer have the Insider app on my build of Windows 10.
I tried going to Settings, system, apps & features, manage optional features, but the Insider app is not listed as a reinstall option.
I am planning on installing Windows 10, and I'am thinking of doing a clean install. So my question is if I create a system image of my current OS i.e. Win 8.1 will I be able to restore it on Windows 10? Because I do not want to install every software again.
View 2 RepliesI am in the process of moving from Europe to Canada and because of the ridiculous cost of shipping a PC across the ocean I will only move some parts (leaving mobo, case, power supply). I thought I could carelessly put my old hard drive in a new mobo but after some research it's apparently not so simple.
Any way to escape buying windows again (and maybe even a new hard drive).
Relevant information?
current HDD: (1tb 7200rpm... seagate possibly?)
cpu: i7 4770
gpu: gtx 770 (2gb evga)
ram: (currently 2x4gb, will add two more 4gb)
possible new mobo: Asus Z87-Pro ATX LGA1150
possible new SSD: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

View 1 RepliesI'd like to get a 256gb SSD this week for my Win 10 install but keep all my games and large rendering files on my 1tb HDD. My games are all in their own folder C:/Games, can I simply move that folder onto the HDD (D:/Games) and be ok or will that cause problems (with registry entries perhaps?).
What's the best way of moving my OS from a 1TB HDD and splitting it up between that and the new, smaller SSD?
After using powershell to run a system scan and having it hang, I restarted my computer to sort it out and now I'm left with this info stuck on my screen.
View 4 RepliesI've got a new computer and I want to clone my old OS(windows 10) from my old hardrive to my new hardrive. I've read that it doesn't always work! Is this true? And is there any other ways round it?
View 1 RepliesI downloaded a .lua file and it asked me what do i want it to open with. I exited out and it still made all my .lua files a photoshop file. I have tried alot from setting default to trying to revert my pc 2 day backs still nothing. I know the default program is suppose to be called "Unknown application" but cant get it back. View 3 RepliesI got an error message. saying "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client". I check the outlook option and it is set to outlook as a default program. I also went to default program in the control panel and that is also set to outlook. When I open a saved mail on m computer with an extension .msg it will get that error message.
View 2 RepliesIs there any way to find out what the current version number of Windows Mail and Calendar app is? I don't think mine is the most current and I have a bug that sometimes makes a New Event post to the previous day. How would I go about updating this app as I can't find a check for updates button or anything like that. BTW, I have version no. 17.6525.42271.0.
View 3 RepliesOn my HDD i have a Dual boot with Kali Linux and Windows 7, it boots with Grub boot loader. If i upgrade to windows 10 will it only effect my Windows 7 partition or my entire HDD(loosing my Linux partition)?
View 1 RepliesI have the following entries in my system start up:
Windows 10
Windows 10
Windows 7
How do I remove the last two entries so startup just shows one Windows 10 only or just boots right into Windows 10 without a start screen ?
Now the calendar just displays Microsoft's ugly icon in the calendar square. Used to be it would just have a number there. Like today it would have a 6 for Nov 6. I don't know how to do anything with the Start screen except Pin to it, remove items from it, rearrange items. I opened the calendar and looked at settings and saw nothing.
View 2 RepliesI am loving Windows 10 and I want to remove Windows XP from my dual-boot configuration (and remove the whole dual-boot thing completely) but it also acts as the system partition, so I guess it's not as straight-forward as I had hoped. Is there a way to make my Windows 10 partition the system partition?
View 1 RepliesCan you set the screen saver bubbles to draw over current background?, now when it comes on it has a solid background color? If you preview it shows over current background which is a picture.
View 9 RepliesI just got a new computer with Windows 10 (Jury's still out) and am trying to access my Buffalo external hard drive from it (i believe it is a NAS. It lists on my desktop as LS-CHLD2F). I disabled windows media player cause I don't want to access it through that (screws everything up). I also installed the Buffalo disc on the new computer but that didn't seem to solve anything. I would like it to show up in my network but just don't know how to get it there and obviously don't want to reformat my hard drive. I just want it to be seen. All of my work is on there and need to access it as is.
Update: I am now able to access it from the desktop but still isn't showing up when I go to File Explorer then Network. It is a Linkstation.
I have PhotoShop which runs fine under win10 bty BUT I really like the little Photos app for quick editing however. It doesn't work all the time.
The app itself never fails to launch but with about half of the pictures that I try to edit give me the error that says "Can't edit" YOU CAN SEE A SCREEN CAP OF THIS EXACT ERROR.
Now, I have checked permissions of the files and even with photos with identical sets some will edit with no issues and the others get that same exact error message!
I have done everything I can think of including uninstalling the Photos app and then reinstalling it from the store. DID not change anything.
Yes, all of the jpg default programs are set to the Photos app (triple checked all those).
I downloaded Windows 10 manually using the official tool from Microsoft's website (MediaCreationTool). It installed ok but then once it finally booted thats when problems started.Windows 10 doesn't recognize my gpu (Asus GTX 960 Strix 2GB) and I cannot edit or open the control panel/settings application! This means I cannot edit any settings.Windows 10 looks like a brilliant OS but seems to be failing compared to Windows 7 (my old OS).
View 1 RepliesYesterday I decided to download WIN 10 Pro 64 bit with the media creation tool to generate an ISO file as I needed to do a fresh install on several machines. I had assumed that I would get the current 1511 version but I got the previous 10240 version . Now I know that MS pulled this November update after a dew days of release but then re-instated again on the 24th Nov. My broadband speed is "pathetic" so I had to download the 1511 upgrade once the initial installation was finished. This meant 18 hours had to elapse and I will still have to download the TH2 upgrade on every machine--will stick with Win 7 !
why I got the old version of Win 10 ?
I want to do a fresh install of Windows on my new SSD and wipe everything off my current hard-drive. The reason why I want to do this is because my new SSD arrived and my drivers are a little bugged and I want to start over.

That's the thing I'm going to be using^. I already have it on a CD.
So do I just plug in the SSD, then set the primary boot device to the CD? Then install Windows 10 64-bit to the SSD? That's it?
Also, how am I going to wipe my current hard drive?
I have been working with windows 10 X64 PRO for a little bit now. I can still not figure out why my scripts (.vbs) or .exe that I push to or use on my domain machines will not edit or create keys in the registry. The only way i can do it is to full kill UAC then reboot then make changes then turn it back on then reboot again. Listed below our the UAC settings we have set for our select few windows 10 machines. We have UAC fully off in windows 7, but it is needed in windows 10 to have apps run.

What I need to do so i can make registry change on the fly. This going to be a big deal breaker for us to move to Windows 10 if i can not change values.
