Can't Login Anymore - Box Is Greyed Out And No Cursor
Sep 17, 2015
I can't do anything about it anymore because I can't even get past the blue login screen. This all happened when I decided I was going to download a game I used to play called Mabibogi, silly me, I should have checked if it was Windows 10 compatible, it's not. So now when I try to login, the bar to enter my password is greyed out, as well as the switch user and shut down buttons, I used to have a cursor showing up, and I have a Dell Inspiron 620.
I set a pin on my surface during technical preview. It worked until windows 10 went live and I updated my desktop. PIN works on my desktop, but it requires my password on the surface?
I tried to reset the security policies, but the option does not exist on the surface. I do however see red text saying "some policies on this PC are preventing some options from being shown." What policies is this referring to?
So i tried updating my computer from windows 8 to 10 and last night and it froze at 75% and configuration settings 1%, i let it sit there all night but it still was at 75%. I had read that people where having the same problem and that itll revert to windows 8.1 after you reset it so i did. To my surprise it booted as windows 10 and allowed me to log in but after i logged in my computer black screened without a cursor. I reset it several times but the same problem kept occuring.
I upgraded a desktop computer from Windows 7 ultimate to Windows 10 and there seems to be an annoying black screen issue which happens before the login screen.
After the Windows loading logo, the screen stays black for about 60-80 seconds (and all I can see is the mouse cursor). After 60-80 seconds, the login screen pops up and everything works fine and I can login.
I already tried the following:
- Updated NVIDIA drivers - Completely removed NVIDIA drivers to see if it was a drivers problem - Booted into safe mode, still happens - Checked event viewer, nothing weird in the logs - Made the PCIE slot the default slot for the primary monitor in the BIOS - Ran the sfc /scannow command, no violations found - Ran all Windows updates - Took a look at the services and startup processes, nothing weird here - Turned fast boot off/on, no change - Full Malwarebytes scan, no infections found
I ran a xbootmgr trace log, here's the summary XML file: processSummary numProces - Pastebin.com
I'd like to keep the fresh installation option as a last resort.
Just upgraded my bro-in-law's HP Pavilion desktop from 8.1 to 10. It's got an AMD processor, but I don't know which one exactly...probably one of the lower level ones. It was a refurb from Fry's, purchased a couple of months ago. It was running 8.1 just fine.
The upgrade process to win 10 went smoothly, got the pretty picture and the standard login screen, entered login info and got a series of messages welcoming me to win 10 and that the system was being configured. Then a message that said the install was "taking a bit longer than usual" and to wait a while longer. Stayed on this for about 10 minutes, and then screen went black with a cursor. And it's been that way for the past two hours. Just leaving it for now hoping it will magically come up with the win 10 desktop, but so far no love.
I had Win 8.1 started 2h ago updating to Win 10. After update log in(first log in) was really long, but that is no problem. The problem is after the log in only black screen and cursors appears. I tried ctrl+alt+delete it works but wen i click on task manager it sends me back with message. Task Manager Stopped Responding.
I tried Restart,Safe Mode with internet connection,Safe Mode(it fails even in safe mode). I will now even try delete all my personal documents and setting maybe that will work (clean install). *Clean install worked* (hour 2 later)
Upgrading now video card driver i guess different drivers because diff. OS and DirectX( DirectX 12 i think ). But with clean installed Win 10 did not activated by it self (6 hours later). Went to activated manually by press of a button but failed for some reason have to now wait for tomorrow to talk to microsoft people.
I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
I don't know how it happened, but for some reason the wi-fi icon on my Acer laptop is now greyed out and when I click on the internet icon to display available connections, there's nothing there.
Using Win 10 Pro 64-bit. Under Windows Update advanced options --> Choose how updates are installed, the options drop down box is greyed out. I've tried all three (enable, disable, not configured) local group policy options for windows updates (with reboot each time) but the option I mentioned above stays grayed out. I'd like to know how it can be un-greyed out. It also says "some settings are managed by your organization" in red font under the wind update advanced options.
I have been unable to find anything. It's quite simple, the Remote Desktop options have both become greyed out. The 'allow remote requests' is still available. I have seen posts saying to check group policy, but I have done that and I have no group policy settings set.
In attempting to set up Cortana, I get the requirement that location services must be turned on. That is greyed out (which makes sense on a desktop with no location capability). But it is then impossible to proceed with Cortana.
So my C: Drive has been acting up lately, with barely enough space to stay alive. I tried to take some space off the D: Drive, which has 240 GB of unused space, and add it to the C: Drive using Disk Management. But when I shrink the D: Drive and Right Click on C: Drive the Extend Volume button is Greyed Out! I think this is happening because the Free Space is not adjacent to the C: Drive.
During Windows 10 clean installation from bootable USB drive - using Users Folder - Move Location in Windows 10 - I've relocated Users folder into D: directory.
Operation went smooth but now I've encountered a problem mentioned in topic's title and presented on the screenshot: Start Menu
Basically, all Apps are not turning on for all current and future accounts. On the other hand, Search and Settings are working properly.
To get rid of the problem I've followed steps listed in this thread: [URL] ...but it didn't work out. Instead, PowerShell returned error HRESULT: 0x80073CF3 for all reinstallation attempts.
Following error applies for all Apps:
Code: Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CF3, Pakiet nie przeszedł weryfikacji aktualizacji, zależności lub konfliktw.Windows cannot install package Microsoft.3DBuilder because this package depends on another package that could not be found. This package requires minimum version 14.0.0.0 of framework Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00 published by CN=Microsoft Corporation,

As for relocationg Users folder back to default location - I don't want to do that because I want my system partition as clean as possible. This is current situation, I've done nothing more to impede poor Windows' performance.
At the moment I have a Local login and I am considering changing to a Microsoft login. If I do, does this mean that when my PC starts from a boot, that instead of the pin that I use to login to my account on the PC, I will be asked to login with both my Microsoft account username and password? If I make a mistake will I be locked out of my PC?
Not sure if I've done this in the course of hacking the registry but I can no longer pin anything to Start Menu by right clicking on an .exe in the File Explorer and choosing 'Pin to Start' from the context menu. I don't get an error message but nothing happens.
Also, when I install a program it will create a folder in the Start Menu, as normal, but any shortcuts to an .exe are not shown, only links to the manual, notes, etc. However, the shortcuts to the .exe are actually being created in
C:UsersNusAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms or C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms
Turned on 'Most used' and can pin programs that appear on the list. However, not all programs used are appearing on list. It seems like only programs that were installed before this behaviour started are showing up.
After resetting my laptop (specs below) from within Windows 10, it cannot boot anymore. It just displays the hp logo and after that it's a black screen with my mouse pointer, indicating that something is loading (the spinning circle). But how long I wait doesn't matter, because it doesn't boot ever. I have tried booting in safe mode, and that worked. But I'm not able to figure out how to boot normally.
my specs: HP Envy 15-j190nb Intel i7 M 4700MQ Intel HD 4600 graphics + nVidia gforce 840m 12 gigs ram
Yesterday while looking thro' my computer i saw an upgrade your facebook to Win 10 sticker,I pressed it and now I cant get any response from the start button the edge button and the store button, the notification button does not respond any more as well. What do I do if I need to install Win 10 again.
I installed build 10041 on my PC and since then none of the modern applications start up. I click on them, there is a small flicker and thats it. No modern app launches. I cant even launch the insider app
I'm experiencing sound issues in Windows 10. What happens is my laptop speakers work fine, I plug headphones in and they work fine, then I unplug the headphones and I don't get audio anymore - it used to seemlessly switch back to my laptop speakers. I've been having no trouble with this in windows 10 since upgrading until today. I tried reinstalling the sound card driver - that didn't work. Once it gets stuck on the headphones all I can do to reset it to my speakers is to go to the device and properties > advanced > reset to default (I noticed all this does is change the bitrate in the dropdown).
i am using Windows 10 Pro since release as an upgrade from Windows 7 Prof., and most things including the new action center worked fine. But since three days now the action center is totally empty, shows only the "no new notifications"-message. All of my settings are still correct, my accounts in Mail App e.g. are still active (and showing my new mails if i open it), the action center settings to show banner+sound for Apps and programs are all ON, and every single piece of software i am using is working as intended, except the action center
I don't really know what's suddenly wrong? I did not install any new software or made a driver update. The only thing last days was an automatic update for Windows Defender, but i don't think that's causing the issue.
how i can get the action center back to work? Perhaps soem Windows services aren't running but i don't know which one could be responsible for the noticifations. I checked the installation with "sfc /scannow", no error. Would be nice to get the action center back, it's very annyoing if i need to have every program always open.
I am using windows 10 since a few weeks now and already encountered a startmenu bug earlier on. This was because of the Teamspeak Overlay which caused the startmenu to be completely unuseable. Ive removed this plugin and ever since everything worked perfectly, until a few days ago.
I received a complete system update which brought me from the RTM version of Win10 to the Build 10532. Apparently im back to the insider preview. This time for windows 10 Professional.
Ever since ms forced me to install this update my startmenu is completely unresponsive and doesnt work anymore.
I also uninstalled avast already and tried to disable dev mode in PS with this:
