View 9 RepliesI recently upgraded my W8.1 system to W10. I'm assuming my administrator password is the same as it was - I don't recall being prompted to change and save it - but, I'm never prompted for it. Instead, everytime I try to do something that requires administrative privilege (Manage my computer, install an .exe, run a CMD as administrator, etc.), my cursor goes to a spinning disk next to the arrow for 4-5 minutes or so - and then, I get this pop-up:
I'm not sure if get the same complaint when I attempt to change my UAC setting, or whether it's simply ignored; but I never get the opportunity to change it here:
I'm tempted to revert back to 8.1 - it's been less than a month - but I don't know for sure that I won't have the same problems when I get there. I'd like to press on and stay with W10, if I can - but, I'll try to revert before I do a complete wipe and install.
When ever i hold a key down for 10 seconds the pc beeps, then the key repeats till i click that key twice. i have been trying to turn this off so i can play some games.
I have tried turning off filter keys and sticky keys in both the ease of access screen from settings and "Control PanelEase of AccessEase of Access CenterMake the keyboard easier to use".
How to make my keyboard normal again
I recently upgraded to win10 and reformatted everything, since then all I have installed is this [URL] ..... (And of course chrome) ...
Now around a week after the install, this friday, what i thought was my keyboard holding down +, but even after unplugging it, it still kept going. After a restart it was gone, but only to come back after a couple of hours. Then saturday and today it has been delete thats being held randomly. I have ran Malwarebytes, Malwarebytes anti-rootkit, avast and avast anti-rootkit which all found nothing, I have also tried removing all my mouse and keyboard drivers, but it just keeps going. My keyboard is a Razer Black widow ultimate (2012) And my mouse is a Zowie FK1.
I am having an issue where the left click on my mouse does not work while I hold down a key on my keyboard. I have looked through all the settings

View 6 Repliesall I have is 'desktop'. Everything else is under that. But all the pics I've seen of windows 10 show 'this PC' as the top level link. I would much prefer that. "desktop' ends up being twice in the tree, and removable media twice as well. Well, actually desktop is right inside my user folder too!
View 5 RepliesI have about 100 files that start with the { character and end with the } character. Inside these two characters are a series of numbers and letters. The file sizes vary from 2-3K. Some of the earliest files are from 2012 and were from prior Windows operating systems.
This is typical of the file name.

I would like to delete these files to clean up my root folder. Why these files were created? Can they safety be deleted?
I'm having a bit of trouble with my Lenovo x220 laptop.
At first I had installed the RTM 10240 version and then updated it to Build 10586. Once I updated I noticed the computer started to behave erratic random freezes at boot up, forcing me to hold the power key down to turn off and reset, would do this a couple of times until it would boot.
Finally I couldn't figure out the problem so on DEC 9, I said "f-it" and formatted the machine with clean build of 10586 using the Microsoft official tool and media creation. Everything seemed to be working fine, drivers and files downloaded and installed automatically. Installed all my programs and customized it the way I like it. Everything seemed to be running fine, last time I used the machine was DEC 13th.
No new programs or software has been installed since that time. At the time I last used it I was just surfing the web and using firefox, and watching youtube. No games, no installs, no new programs, nothing. I double checked program manager, and last time any programs were installed was on DEC 9, but like I said it was working fine since. Today when I booted, Windows installed updates and now on every reset I am getting this particular error on boot,
An attempt to add the root certificate to all known browsers on your computer failed.
I did already run an /sfc scannow as admin command prompt and everything came back A-OK ....
This is the 2nd time W10 has gone flaky on me on this machine. I'm trying to give this OS a "chance" and work my way through it, but common this is the 2nd error already since using W10 on this laptop that it's going screwy. I am keeping all programs to a minimum on here in case I have any compatibility issues.
I tried to do a search but it didn't come up with much. where the Save/SaveAs/Open dialogs don't open and instead the app crashes? I've seen it in Notepad, Paint and Word. If I kill all explorer.exe processes, and then launch for example Notepad from Task Manager, the issue goes away, but as soon as I reboot, it returns.
View 1 RepliesI'm running Office 2003 in Windows 10 (upgraded from Windows 7) with no visible issues.
Except that when I want to save a Word document using "Save As" it prompts me for all sorts of unsuitable locations...My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, and some random programs which somehow landed up in the "Documents" folder. None of the shortcuts I'd like to see there (and which are in the folder, because I put them there!) show up. What to do?
How do I get the NFS client on Windows 10 Pro?
View 2 RepliesHave set up a VPN server connection on my Windows 10 Pro desktop. Clients can connect to the VPN server but can't access the internet through the VPN connection.
I have the identical set up on a Windows 7 VPN server and client can connect through to the internet using that machine.
Everything seems identical in the set up, however the RAS Interface on the Win 10 shows "no internet access," where the Win 7 server does. This seems to be the issue, but can't figure out how to change the settings on the Windows 10 server to make this work...
I was recently reading this article on ShieldsUp [URL] .... about disabling the client for Microsoft networks. Are there any real security benefits for doing this and if so what would happen if I did? e.g. would I still be able to receive updates from Windows? I've already unchecked file and printer sharing and not bothered about any file sharing.
I'm using Win 10 btw ..
I cant find anything online what "WP sync client" is, but it is draining battery on my Venue 8 Pro. I have already tried to disable all tiles, and all background tasks. I dont have any phone sync app installed or anything. But still "powercfg sleepstudy" shows "WP sync client" as the main drain source.
View 1 RepliesOn 9/12/2015 I was able to log into my non-administrator (user) account. Today, 9/14/2015, I get the message: "Windows couldn't connect to the Group Policy Client service..." How can I fix this so I can log into my user account?
View 19 RepliesAlso searched this forum and have replied to similar posts - But here is a thread of my own.
I Setup a new PC for a friend on Saturday 28/11/15
Brand new desktop with Windows 10
Setup using a local Admin Account
2 days later - message appears on starting up (after the login prompt)
"Windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system."The the PC is slow to respond , would not open WLM or Chrome And takes 10mins to shutdown
Choose to hold the Shift Key and restart - Then Continue
Which fixes the issue - for a few reboots !!!!
Windows 10 has also updated to 1511 Threshold 2
Still occurs
I have tried - and with MS Chat assistance - and all have failed
1) New profile
2) SFC /Scannow
3) Clean Boot
I then read about and was also advised by MS of a registry change for grpsvc.I notice the issue is that Group Policy Client - does not have a status of "running".I checked a couple of windows 10 PCs and they all have the Status "running" although none had the registry entries recommended and all have worked fine for months. However, MS - updated and changed the registry and now we have the status of "running" next day it gave the message and problems returned This time I notice that the GPC status is blank again.Despite the registry changes - still having the issue - every day for 10days now with a reboot using the shift key fixes the issue and GPC is running again
I'm at a loss what to do next MS have said its not a windows problem and refused to further assist - and advised to go back to the OEM HP have said its a windows issue windows couldn't connect to group policy - Windows 10 Forums Which I may try and see if there is a space - but I have checked the registry now and it is now setup as the various GPC articles of course , if i do a clean factory reset - that will be removed
Since upgrading to Windows 10 a while back I receive the following message on start up:
Failed to connect to a Windows Service:
Windows couldn't connect to the Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents standard users from signing in.
Is this a major problem which I need to get rectified and if so how ?
Currently I have installed Windows 10 Home on my PC. The issue is that the File uploading software Filezilla FTP Client is not uploading files in this Operating System. After upgrading from W8 to W10 and then doing clean install of W10 my Ethernet connection is randomly popping alerts and losing connection (event viewer reports this as event 1014), card also is randomly being reset.
troubleshooting just resets Ethernet card (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) saying there was an issue with DNS.
I've never used Cisco VPN
Issue did not occurred on W8.1
Tried both drivers (Windows 10 update and Realtek for win8.1 using both compatibility and normal install)
Installed Win 10 on network client. I have 8 mapped drives from the server and on a regular basis 1 or more of drive are lost. They come back on their own usually a short time later. This causes major headaches when programs using files on the drives lose the connection while files are in use.
View 1 RepliesOne drive has not signed in at all or properly from desktop sync client this morning. No official info, status or ETA ....
View 2 RepliesNot sure whether this is related to the recent upgrade (yesterday jan 28 2016), but I restarted my PC after after the upgrade, all was OK, I switched it off and went home. Today after I swithed my PC on the following appeared: "The Group Policy Client Service failed the sign-in. The universal unique identifier (UUID) type is not supported" Wow, this frightened me as hell. The logon screen reappeared and I managed to log-in on the second attempt.
View 3 RepliesI'm having the "Failed to connect to a Windows service. Windows couldn't connect to the Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents standard users from signing in" message in my laptop. It was updated from Windows 8 to 10 when we purchased it. At the beginning the laptop works well but now i'm having this message. I saw the a video and the GPC status is not running and in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL/SERVICES/GPSVC in the Image Path is netsvcs instead gpsvdGroup.
The problem is that when i went to SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS NT/CURRENT VERSION/SVCHOST And then to the netsvcs I did'n t have to add it because it is already there, it was not missing. I verified Dword values and all of them have the same values as recommended in the video.
