Can't See NAS In Explorer?
Jul 19, 2015
I have a WD My Cloud NAS and it has worked fine on all Win10 builds up till now. Today I have Win10 10240 RTM and after a clean install, file explorer shows a device on my Network called something like WIN-T687HM07IAL but not the normal WD device or its folders.
The WD device is accessible via the WD Cloud software so the connection (ethernet/router) is correct. There must be something in my Win10 setup I'm missing.

In Windows 7 when I open Windows Explorer it comes up with a very simple window that has very basic tabs, Organise, Share With Burn, New Folder. Organise then has a very basic drop down menu.
When I use File Explorer in Windows 10 it comes up with a much more detailed menu that offers four menus, File, Home, Share, View.
Is there any way I can use a window similar to Windows 7? I'm sure it is there somewhere as when you attempt to open a file in an application a window identical to what I want comes up to allow the selection.

When I open certain folders, Windows Explorer just restarts itself. There is no "explorer has stopped working" message and the screen doesn't fade as if it's hanging.
Sometimes, it just closes the explorer window instantly when opening a folder and reloads the taskbar, but sometimes it opens the folder, shows no files and says "Working on it..." for about 5 seconds and the entire PC freezes before closing the folder and reloading the taskbar (essentially restarting explorer).
I can't access files on a certain folder that I need, and I even tried copying the folder I need to access and pasting it onto my desktop to see if I could work around it that way, but that just causes the same thing to happen and doesn't paste the folder.
It only seems to happen in folders with certain files in them. I program multiplayer game servers and have quite a few different folders containing the files for these different servers and it only seems to happen with these folders. It's like explorer has a problem with showing a particular file type or something.

I am experiencing random freezing of a Windows Explorer (file manager) window. What this means, is that I cannot click on a file, I cannot minimize, close the window etc.
However, I can open another instance (or more) of Windows explorer, that I can open files, copy & paste, drag & drop, close the window, etc
The only way I can get rid of the frozen window is going to task manager & telling Explorer.exe to restart

why some of my folders are missing now from explorer and all windows apps/file manager...BUT I can see them from Command Line and also some of the folders include for instance videos and I can see the videos there...and in the file properties I can see the real folder too...but it can't be accessed anywhere else.I have a V:Home Videos folder. It doesn't show anywhere in Windows EXCEPT when I go to 'Videos' and pick a video file and see in properties: V:Home Videos. And the video plays fine and all; just can't access it from anywhere else! (Except command line).I have checked the folder permissions and all, don't seem to have a problem there. Show hidden files is on and such.

I set up a "shutdown" shortcut on my desktop that calls "shutdown.exe" and almost every time after I click on the shortcut I see a message dialog box that saying explorer is not responding and it takes a while for that dialog box to close and then finish shutting off the computer.
I've noticed this also happens when using the start menu->power->shutdown.

After I experienced crash, which was caused I thing due to bad RAM which I replaced then,I couldn't repair windows to the state it was.I have problems with windows explorer,it reopens, almost every time I open WE and then closed it, it reopens again to the same folder. For example if I click in utorrent 'open containing folder' it will open it and then refresh it to the begining of the file list. When I close the window, it will reopen again.
Also, I cant force WE to remember settings for each folder, (like I used to before crash). In all folders, files are listed as 'date modified' if I try to change to different settings it will not remember, even if I click back and return to folder, it already change to default 'date modified'.Another thing, icons on desktop are largest, I can decrease the size of icons, but they resset to largest every time I reboot.
I tried SFC /SCANNOW, doesnt find any errors. Also scanned with kaspersky boot CD, no problems found.I was thinking to recover some files from old backup, and to replace existing files, but which files should I recover? What would be the registry keys that I should look for in order to fix this?

I think I have some registry conflicts. The battery/audio systray icons are no longer appearing, and the screen keeps flickering which causes applications to hang. Sometimes programs will even switch on their own.
If I use the browsers in full screen I don't have unresponsive issues. Though explorer still restarts periodically.

After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, my file explorer simply keeps crashing when navigating in folders.
Example: I go to "This PC" and the window that pops up show all my drives but not how much storage they have/have left. When I try open a drive or folder the window and taskbar closes down and reopen after a few seconds. I haven't had this problem even a single time before I upgraded to Windows 10 but now it happens almost every time I try open a folder.

This is the second time I have posted about the same problem. I can't move file explorer to the task bar. I tried to move it by right clicking on start, then left click on file explorer the menu I get that way just says "pin to start" and more, when I click on more all that is there is don't show with this list, if I left click the start button and then left click file explorer the menu only says "pin to start". I am at a loss, I have had one problem after another with Windows 10 and considering going back to Windows 7. I have tried to revert back to windows 7 from windows 10 but that failed, the only other option I have is to format the hard drive and reload Windows 7. I understand by doing that I will get the Windows 10 10 upgrade icon in the right hand corner of the task bar. How do I get rid of that?

New on here a just taken plunge with w10. Not bad at all on this Surface Pro 3.
In windows explorer there is an option what folders to show and synchronise. It used to be that the file 'impression' was there but the actual file on the cloud. It now seems that to have them visible they have to synchronise and this means they actually download to local HDD. All I want is to see the files and when I click on them they come down from cloud and attach to email etc. This particularly important for pictures. Because these and medic are huge I don't 'synchronise as they would all come down locally.
So, how do I see the available files in OneDrive via Explorer without actually having them on hard drive locally.

What I don't understand is why with administrator rights, I can't access or delete files or even save files to the Windows folder.
I also don't have the option if I right click to run File Explorer with Administrator rights.
If I Right Click on another Application I get to run as Administrator
Here are File Explorer properties; as you can see the olption to run as Administrator is grayed out

As the title says I am unable to "see" my NAS in windows explorer. I was able to use explorer to view/add/delete files on my NAS a few weeks ago but now now cannot even see the NAS in the network section. Funny thing is that I am able to ping the server and even login to the GUI via IE and firefox. But i can't get the media files.
I am currently running the evaluation copy of Windows 10: Details:
- Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview
- version 1511
- OS build 10565.41737
- 64Bit
- Intel i&-2600 CPU with 24GB of RAM
I have tried the follow to correct the issue with no success:
- Rebooted windows 10 machine (several times)
- Rebooted Router (Actiontec V2000H)
- Rebooted NAS (FreeNAS 9.3)
- ipconfig /flushdns
- change from using PIN to password
- Change from password to PIN
- using regedit added the AllowInsecureGuestAuth = 1 to the registry.
Notes on NAS: using Freenas 9.3, ZFS volume, enabled CIFS shares. do not require login to access media files (or any files). The server only has media files on it so no password required or enabled.
Notes on Network:
- The network is hardwired with Cat 5e cable (except for wireless printer)
- Windows 10 explorer is able to "see" other windows machines (windows 7 and 8), an Linus Ubuntu 14.04 machine, router (Actiontec V2000H, printer (wireless), AV receiver,
- the windows 7/8 machines are able to access the media files on the NAS with no issues and are able to see the windows 10 machine.
- the ubuntu 14.04 machine is able to access the media files on the NAS with no issues and is able to see the windows 10//8/7 machines on the network.
I like windows 10 but it will be a show stopper if I cannot access my NAS from this Windows 10 machine.

I've had windows 10 since November and just today it's been playing up. None of the apps open - they display a message "element not found" for explorer exe or for other things like chrome, ms word you click on it and nothing happens. Can't even turn off the computer (start > turn off just does nothing) I've tried pressing the power button on my PC but that just seems to put it into sleep mode and not properly restart it.

Usually, when you right-clock the "file explorer" all the last used folders are showing on-top of it (right circle on image/attachment), I thought ihe bug would just go away but after 1 week it's annoying as ever

Hardware: Dlink DNS-320 Nas, running most current firmware, Acer Iconia W700i running the most upto date Windows 10 Home x64 (problem is also mirrored on wife's laptop).
The problem: When I go to mount my NAS drive I get the error message: "NASVolume_1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. .... The local security authority database contains an internal inconsistency" If I then go to mount it anyway (using different credentials) the credentials box pops up for a second time with no error, then the third time gives me: "The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password .... disconnect any existing mappings to this network share".
I can't remember which commands I used in cmd (as administrator) but I was able to see, access, even mount the NAS drive, but once I had mounted it to a specific drive letter, it was still not accessible through windows explorer.
If I type 192.168.0.100 (ip of my NAS) in the run prompt, I can see the shares but get the same error when I click on them.
The NAS shows up as a media device (DLNA) in windows explorer and I can access my music through it.
Attempted solutions: I have tried all the following solutions which give me the same errors shown above:
Logged on using a local account rather than microsoft accountTurned off Windows firewallUnder TCP/IP V4 on adapter properties, set Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IPChanged the MTU of my adapter to a lower setting
Other information:
I can log on using the web interfaceMy phone can map, and connect to it, using android's file commanderWhen I was running Windows 7 on other machines, they mapped fineWhen I was running 8.1 on this machine it ran fineWe've recently got a new router, although this did work through it and I am accessing it locally so shouldn't make a difference

When in file explorer, I sometimes want to print out the list of names of the folders and files for reference or to bump against another list of names of folders and files. The "share" option lists 'printer' but does not work properly. It only wants to print photos.
