I often see in the notification tray that something is accessing location even though I am not actively using any apps. Can anything other than "apps" access location? The only app I have that has permission to access location in the "Location and Privacy Settings" menu is Cortana.

View 7 RepliesI have just installed windows 10 and I am listed as the administrator. However, if I try to save a newly written document in a folder that I have always previously used for that purpose, I get a message which says:- You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead? I can not create folders or save files in existing folders. This occurs when I try to save in Documents folder or the OneDrive. I am able to save on network places though. Is there an EASY permissions fix that does not require changing permissions for all the folders.

1. I can click the 'Change' button in Privacy, Location, but nothing happens. ('Location is off' is displayed)
2. 'Location' is greyed out in the Action Centre

(I've tried stopping, starting it, restarting the PC).
then I discovered
4. Cortana does not appear in Toolbars (rt click taskbar)
5. The response to clicking Cortana in the start menu is to go to Store, Downloads and updates.
(Cortana was working a while back- I thin I turned it off at some point)
I have changed some things in Privacy, and tried to undo those. Everything else seems fine. I'm guessing I've turned sthg off or changed an option somewhere.
I have a small SSD holding my OS, and a large HDD for everything else. I am trying to change the default install path to my storage drive, but when I go to settings, system, storage, I am unable to change the default install path to my storage drive (F:). Everything else (pictures, documents, music, etc.) can be changed to F:, but app install can't. I am able to manually change it while installing programs, but I would like to set it as the default.

She has asked me to enter my City for weather locations.
But, I want her to automatically detect my location instead of me having to do it by putting in my city.

View 4 RepliesWhen opening my address book in Word 2007 to copy in an address, I get the message "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.."
This has worked repeatedly in the past. I have no problem using the address book in Outlook and Outlook is the default mail client.
I recently installed the free upgrade from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10, but cannot remember if the last time my address book worked correctly was before or after I upgraded.
I have a desktop PC at home, shared with the whole family, parents, sister and I. In win7, We have 3 separate account, one for me, one for sister, these two accounts have password. And also a third account for my parents to do simple things, like net surfing or watching youtube.
However, since win8, MS encourage us to use microsoft account, which must be protected by password. There is no problem for me and sister, as we are using win8 laptop. But my parents are not good to remember password, and it is even not necessary to use password.
I already googled it and every tutorial is the same. When I go to do it, it doesn't work. I don't have a Microsoft account. I specified a local account user name. This is what I'm selecting as owner. The computer is not transferring access to the user im selecting.
I want to gain access to this folder, because this folder is on my friggin data drive!?!? I have a 1Tb drive partitioned into 3. The OS is installed on one partition, I install all my programs on the second partition, and I save all my crap on the 3rd partition. Well, I found the windows apps folder on my data partition and I want it out of here. I want it to go back to where ever it came from. I think when I was messing around with all the windows settings, under storage I specified that everything is saved to my data drive, even apps. I dont use apps. I dont want this folder on my data drive.
I'm facing a problem when Enabling Cortana, It asks me to give permissions to read Contacts but when I click on settings, there is no Cortana to give permissions, any solution ?
View 2 RepliesI followed this guide to gain access for WindowsApps folder, and it worked.Now, I changed default drive for WindowsApps, to install Gears of War and Quantum Break(in future) in a larger drive. But the method to gain access to the WindowsApps folder, seem to not work if the drive isn't C, the default one.

I have downloaded him some games to play but it seems he can only access these when he is logged in as me. Is there anyway that i can give him access to all of his games etc when logged in as himself. Then I tried the windows 10 scan app. It saves by default to the pictures folder. It, too, could not save to the default location. but I discovered that I can set it to save to desktop, and that works. But it forgets my choice as soon as I close the app.
I am the owner of these folders. Why can't my apps access them? I checked documents properties, and I have full permissions.
For some reason; itunes keeps giving me the message "itunes can not sync your phone because you do not have enough access privileges" or something to that extent. And the odd thing is for some reason it just started happening today. The syncing had been working fine up until today.
View 6 RepliesI upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7. All was working fine. Now, I can't access the modern start screen, cortana or apps. The following things might have cause this: I changed my PCs name, I installed more ram, I created a local log in and there was an update just before this happened. I tried to use a restore point but the laptop said it failed. I have tried the powershell solution with no luck. I have tried creating a new user but it won't let me add a new user.
View 2 RepliesI noticed a folder named" Windows.migrated" and I deleted in error thinking it wasn't necessary anymore. This was after i upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 to 10. Unfortunately it caused ALL my store apps including the default ones to be deleted. I'm a bit lost of what to do now. I don't have a restore point to access.
