Cannot Import Registry File - Invalid Key

Apr 14, 2016

For some reason, I cannot import this registry script I made. Syntax seems to be correct. I'm thinking it's most likely an invalid key somewhere. Look at the attachment, what is causing this error: "The specified file is not a registry script."

Invalid Value For Registry - Icons Invisible

Mar 27, 2015

I'm having a big time issue in Windows10, build 10041. Nothing works. Icons of Windows related things get "invisible".

Here's some screenshots:

When clicking Cortana, this happens: [URL]. She doesn't open.

When clicking the start menu: [URL]. It only gets highlighted on mouse over. Doesn't work. Right clicking it though, work with the menu as expected.

Store button: [URL]. Looks invisible. Clicking it, gives this: [URL]. Same thing for calculator. No modern apps work!

Onedrive: attempting to start it gives this: [URL]. Attempting to debug it:[URL]. Opening VS: [URL]. Result: [URL]
Trying scannow: [URL]

Start Menu Not Opening - Invalid Value For Registry

Oct 16, 2015

Where the start menu doesn't open when its clicked on. I have seen other posts with this issue where its an issue with personalization settings under ms-settings. I am unable to open Ms-settings because I receive the error "Invalid value for registry". I tried opening it from the notifications button but that doesn't launch at all. I am trying to avoid reinstalling the system.

I have tried dism /online /cleanup-image:
/restorehealth sfc /scannow
Ran multiple different virus scanners.

This computer is running Build 10240
AMD Phenom II 1045T Processor
8Gb of Ram

I get the same message regardless of whether it's a new photo I've just uploaded or photos that have been on my PC for a long time.

Import Or Merge Registry Key Not Working?

Aug 28, 2015

I exported a key (ieshims) to document folder. I made corrections using Notepad++ to some paths and saved it. I imported the key back and everything went fine.

The problem is that when I go back to look at my corrections in the registry, nothing is updated. The old key is shown.

The reason I exported/imported the key is that regedit doesn't allow me to make correction of a path on the left side of the key i.e. paths.

Apps :: Photos App No Longer Launches - Invalid Value For Registry

Dec 5, 2015

Apparently it is my turn: Photos app no longer launches (clicking on the icon does nothing; no error report in Event Log). Trying to double-click image files associated with Photos results in "Invalid Value for Registry" message box. No explanation as to for what value is "invalid" and why it is "invalid".

It appears that the damage is user-account-specific, meaning that Photos typically continue to work fine under different (undamaged) user accounts. So, the only known solution appears to be to create a new user account and set it up from scratch.

Considering that setting up a new account requires quite an effort, this is not a real solution but more of a last resort "loser's way out" kind of measure. Hence the question: any additional information/research about this error? What specific "registry value" is responsible for this problem? I see quite a few reports about this error on the Net, but most of them seem to settle with creating a new account.

Adding File Extensions Using Registry Entries?

I've recently upgraded from Windows XP to 10 (64-bit), and the .reg files I've crafted for adding custom file associations don't work anymore. What's changed? How do I make them work again? Sample:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClasses.pdf]@="user.sumatra.pdf"[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdf]@="PDF Document"[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdfDefaultIcon]@="F:BINSumatraPDFSumatraPDF.exe,1"[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdfshell][HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdfshellopen][HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdfshellopencommand]@=""F:BINSumatraPDFSumatraPDF.exe" "%1""

I've backed up my registry twice recently, and I noticed a huge difference in the size of the backup file. Two days ago, the backup I created was 18,066 KB. The one I created this morning is 247,691 KB. Should I be concerned about this, and, if so, what can I do about it?

E The Directory Name Is Invalid

Sep 6, 2015

I am running Windows 10. I had a USB stick in the computer. After an update-restart, I ejected the USB drive, and now my computer is slow after idling and there was a nagging message that asserts itself. First it was something about what do you want me with removable drive E.

I finally clicked on that message, now i get the message "E: the directory name is invalid" Now that pops up before I do any clicking on anything.

I'm not sure if I inadvertantly indexed the E drive, or if its just that the E drive must be there.

Can't Erase Photos After Import

Nov 26, 2015

I have the iPhone 6s plus. I am using windows 10 pro. I am having an access denied error when trying to erase the photos-videos after import. I can't find the answer anywhere.

To get the import started you have to plug in the phone via USB. Then in file explorer you right click the icon and select the importing option. Setup the options etc. and select import. Everything works great up until it starts to erase the files off the device and then I get that error displayed in the image below.
