Cannot Install MSI Files - Installation Already Running
Sep 11, 2015
So I've recently discovered that I cannot install any MSI files on my Windows 10 system. I originally had this issue with Razer Synapse 2.0 which threw an Error 1500: There is another Installation in progress. I kind of gave up and forgot about it a few weeks ago, until I came across another MSI file that I have to install for school. Its a secure downloader for a Dreamspark program. Same issue. Throws a "There's another installation currently in progress" error. So it seems like the Windows installer service is corrupted, but of course on windows 10 I cant change anything about it from the services panel. Tried a bunch of solutions that seemed to work on previous OS's, but haven't had any success.

Windows 10 downloaded to my laptop, and stated that it's ready for installation, etc. As I reboot my laptop, it just goes back into Windows 7. I can't seem to figure out why either. I also tried downloading the stand alone installer with no success either. It will just say installation failed.

I have Aspire V5-573G, which has all hardware requirements for Windows 10. The problem is when I tried to upgrade from windows 8.1 to 10 after 30%, the installation stops and roll backs to windows 8.1, I tried this 3 times and fed up. It gave me error "The installion failed in the FIRST_BOOT phrase with an error during BEGIN_FIRST_BOOT operation".
So I tried to do a clean install, I have booted to USB key, formatted hard drive, but it gave me error "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x800701E3". Both the way I couldn't install windows 10.

I have made several attempts to upgrade my desktop from 8.1 to 10. Each time the install freezes at the "copying files = 3%" point. When I reboot the system returns to my 8.1 setup and shows the above code with this explanation. "Installation failed in SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation"

My PC has downloaded all of the Windows 10 installation files in the $Windows.~BT folder, but I have not had any installation notices. How to initiate the installation?
I've read not to click the setup application in the $Windows.~BT folder as this will apparently make the files disappear.

Just a curiosity of mine - Is there a difference between a clean install and performing an upgrade while keeping only the files? In other words, is this sort of upgrade the same as a clean install, only with the files restored to 'documents', desktop, etc.? Or, does the new windows folder contain remnants of the previous install.

Successfully upgraded to Windows 10, all applications and settings works perfectly and all previous problems are gone.
I've been facing a collection of annoying problems with my Windows 8.1, specifically setting saving problem, for example can't save settings like default app, folder and icon size, i didn't update to Win10 yet because i am working on very important projects.
My question is, do you think this kind of problems will be fixed after updating to Win10 by keeping all my files, programs, etc... ?Or should i do a clean installation of Win10 so my computer will be "system-new".

I checked and all of my drivers are 32 bit and under some utilities there are a lot of files that aren't found as in not on my computer. I have also found that I seem to be booting through a virtual device through PXE to a Linux Ubuntu server...I know my drive is a shadow copy and that the files I see are for my viewing pleasure and the actual files are set up like an XP directory with documents and setting separate from the user folder. I am also running a dummy bios that is protected. It reacts differently in different brands of laptops. There are common references among all my pcs as in what they want running...print and fax, backup and sync, sound recorder and video as well.
They also track me. I traced the software to a site on facebook called freeware sys and dilshad sys who I have found out is or was a social worker in NewYork city and a game programmer as well. They have not stolen a penny from be but they are running keystroke loggers. The use the log files to counter what I do to rid f them. I have last many laptops to them and I have also seen through a utility boot program that they transfer data to my pc through facebook...call me paranoid but I can back all of this up.

I just upgraded my Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 using the Windows free upgrade. The upgrade completed successfully and I am able to boot into Windows 10.
I am not able to open any applications pinned to the taskbar. Even the windows menu is not launching! Hence I am stuck with only limited set of applications which have shortcuts on the desktop.

Background: I was dual-booting Widnows 8.1 (came pre-installed on ACER laptop I recently purchased) and Ubuntu. This worked fine until I decided to take the free upgrade to windows 10 being offered. During the upgrade process, it deleted a partition for Ubuntu and ended up killing both OS. I was stuck with BIOS and how to restore my computer, particularly with both OS being able to co-exist peacefully.
I only needed to access Ubuntu for work purposes and my boss gave me a copy of both windows 8.1 and windows 10 (stand alone clean install). I did successfully install windows 10 but was not able to dual-boot to Ubuntu. Because I needed to prioritize work, I scrapped windows 10 and currently only run Ubuntu.
Good news, I quit my job and no longer need or want Ubuntu! I simply want to go back to the way things were meant to be and have my functioning windows 10- no dual booting. My questions are these: How do I restore my system to its original condition (with windows 8.1, if it still exists somewhere in my motherboard that is)? Considering that I am currently running Ubuntu, what do I have to do to make this successful (with the intention of getting rid of Uubuntu all together)? If I am unable to restore my system, then I will fall back to installing windows 10 (or 8.1 if that fails) clean; how do I extract my product license key from my system? It is not written down anywhere and windows will prompt me for it if I install from a CD.

MacBook late 2009 running parallels. Originally upgraded when Win 8 was installed. Win 10 upgrade loaded Home. Removed Win 10, upgraded to Win 8.1. Now when I try to reload Win 10, it will not install Pro, only Home.
When I go to change product key under activation, it will not let me change serial number. (Old Win 8.0 Serial Number)
Clarification: Cannot even select change product key. I only get a "ding".

I ended up using an extra 2 GB or so of hard drive space after the windows 10 install. I ran desk cleanup and removed the old windows files which was a lot. But wasn't Windows 10 supposed to free up space?
Prior to install the computer showed 241GB of 297GB used. Now it says 256GB of 297 used. And this is after windows 10 disk cleanup removed the old OS files which was something like 20GB.
Under storage use it shows
System and Reserved - 49.7 GB inside of which 42.1 GB is system files. Isn't this a lot? The rest of the 7GB under system and reserved is 3GB Virtual Memory, 3GB System Restore and 1.5GB Hibernation file
Apps and Games - 6.83 GB (I have no games and besides the stock apps, I might have just 5 apps installed chrome, vlc player, ytd, ccleaner and iTunes
Temp files - 3.98 GB and I always kept this clean with ccleaner prior to win 10 install but been scared to run it after the update because I'm waiting on more ccleaner updates to save from issues (heard some horror stories using ccleaner on win 10)
One Drive - 51 GB used - I saved movies now this is saved in the cloud not on my hard drive right?
Background. This computer I just got a week ago. I was restored back to factory 8.0 and I than updated to 8.1 and than updated to Windows 10.

My computer is trying to install Update to Windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586, but can't. It claims there is no system reserved partition, but there is. This computer was upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, and immediately after doing that I installed a Samsung SSD and migrated the system to it using the software that came with the SSD. The migration went well and I've been using Windows 10 for months.
All of a sudden, when trying to do some updates it claims it cannot update the system reserved partition. The partition is there, it's 100MB in size. So I tried booting from the install CD, which I burned to do the upgrade (so I know it's a good disc). My computer recognizes there's a disc in the DVD drive, but no matter how I set the bios boot order it will not boot from the DVD, so I can't do a repair on the SSD.

i'm having an issue with my laptop, i think it's something called a memory leak because my RAM won't go below 80% even when my laptop is idle. I've been searching the internet for answers on how to fix this problem but didn't find any luck. I've already wasted an entire day trying to figure out how to fix this, I even tried to do a system restore but i forgot to save any restore points. I'm hoping Resetting/Refreshing would be the answer but i'm facing another problem; My media installation tool or USB Bootable Drive (I don't know if they're the same. It's what i used when i installed Windows 10) is that of a previous Windows 10 version & build. Would it work If i use it to Reset my laptop? I'm currently using the latest version, build 10586.36.

I am a noob when it comes to backup and restore. After many years and many iterations of Windows, I finally tried to backup my files and folders. They have been stored to an external HDD.
I ran into an issue with Win 10 that required a complete clean install of 7 and then upgrade to 10 again. The drive was completely cleaned.
Upon install, I can only see the backup I created after the new install.
From the backup drive, I can see many files when clicking on the drive to view content. The laptop has been renamed. How then can I restore the files from the old setup?

I just installed Win 10 and had backed up everything to a USB hard drive before doing so. Well it seems for some reason Win 10 removed my folder with all my work in it and also changed the folder and file permissions on that drive during installation. I talked to customer support and after spending an hour with tech support and not finding them, the person said it was impossible for Win 10 to do that and I was basically called a liar. So I'm having problem of win 10 altering or removing files on a drive it shouldn't even have been touching?

First time running into issues with my SP3. Was able to download the latest build without any issues. Restarted and the overall install is 18% (blue ring has disappeared) and the Copying Files step is stuck on 63%. Been like that for 15-20 minutes or so. Should I wait it out or try to shut my Surface off?

I have a screen saver that was a bonus feature of a Hidden Object Game I played. After I removed the game I still had the screen saver files in the game's program directory however it no longer worked. I looked up online somewhere that there are three directories that are used for screen savers on windows 10 (just to make life complicated! as far as I know in previous windows version there was on directory for them!). The directories I found are as follows:
C:WindowsC:Windowssystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64 (on 64-bit versions of Windows. So I copied and pasted all the files for the screen saver into each of these directories. In the screensaver settings window it lists the screen saver I am trying to use and shows it in the little monitor preview box. however when I actually click the preview button to see if it is working I get a black screen and nothing else. When I click the mouse I get the chime error sound. So I alt+tab to get out of it and there is an error window. I saved the error log and this is what it contained (never mind the times at the beginning of each line, that's just reflective of when the error occurred and when I saved the log):
12:49:26 PM: Cannot enumerate files in directory 'C:/WINDOWS/system32/Com/dmp' (error 5: access is denied.)
12:49:26 PM: Cannot enumerate files in directory 'C:/WINDOWS/system32/config' (error 5: access is denied.)
12:49:26 PM: Cannot enumerate files in directory 'C:/WINDOWS/system32/inetsrv/Config' (error 5: access is denied.)
12:49:26 PM: Cannot enumerate files in directory 'C:/WINDOWS/system32/LogFiles/Fax/Incoming' (error 5: access is denied.)
[code]....
how to fix it so my screen saver will work properly? I realize that screen savers are a relic of the past but in my case it's actually useful because it keeps my monitor from turning off and my pc from going into standby when I am in the middle of doing something but have to step away for a moment to answer the phone, or door or whatever.

I have been trying for hours to install windows 10 home on my newly built PC but i can't because there is a problem. I bought the usb version since i don't have an optical drive bay.
The problem: I can start the setup, but when i launch the installation my pc suddenly restarts and boots the usb again, so i get back at the 32/64 bit selection screen. This happens when i click "next" after choosing my drive (see included video). The drive i'm using is a Samsung 850 EVO SSD.
I have tried numerous things to fix it including: removing the ram (2x8GB) and putting it back, trying with one ram stick, removing the graphics card and use the integrated graphics card, use different usb ports, use different sata ports, removing the hdd (i can't even start the setup with the hdd plugged in).
I also downloaded Windows 10 from the official website and put it on an other usb stick, the same problem occurs.
I even tried with Ubuntu and the same problem happens!! When i launch the installation my pc reboots and the setup restarts!
I have made a video showing what happens (win 10): OS installation problem - YouTube
I also made a video that shows my BIOS: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 BIOS - YouTube

Whenever I try to do anything, like install a program, open some files, I get an UAC warning saying: :"To continue, type an administrator password", but there's no textbox where I can type the password and Yes button is disabled. I found a solution on the forum [URL]..., but I can't enter Safe mode whatever I try, I never get an option to enter safe mode and I can't use msconfig cause UAC blocked it. What can I do?
