Button for new folder exists but does nothing. This is a new problem and system restore to oldest restore point did not work. Have run scf scan without errors. Have confirmed permission to modify parent file folder. I can rename existing folders. Have run Bitdefender & CCleaner registery cleaners.
View 14 RepliesIt works fine, but suddenly today the New menu disappeared from my click menu when I click on any blank place in a folder. What's worse, if I click the New Folder button under the File Explorer top menu, there is no response. In the end, I can only create new folders using command lines but not by the usual shortcuts.
View 3 RepliesAbout a week after Clean Installing Windows 10 from an upgraded version on my laptop, I noticed that i wasn't able to Create a New Folder anywhere, from Desktop to File Explorer Directories. Nothing! Even when i try clicking the "New Folder" Button in the Ribbon or pressing Ctrl+Shift+N it still won't work. In the Context Menu (Right Click), I can't find the "New" Button too. Is this normal for Windows 10 after being installed? Do i have to install something (maybe an update) for the "New" to appear in the Context Menu?

I bought a new Microsoft surface pro 3 It originally had windows 8 installed on it.From the instant that I unboxed it, turned it on, and accessed Wi-Fi connection, there were almost ALWAYS errors when installing certain plugins or programs from the internet. Instead the errors always came with the message can not create temp folder archive etc. or something of the like.
I downloaded Window 10 because it looked comfortable. No change; none of the programs that I download from internet explorer, edge, or google chrome work. I looked into the internet for answers and there weren't that many. One video on youtube seemed to have a solution. It advised that I go into some advanced settings under the properties of my pc and click on environment settings and... do something I don't really understand. The instructions were:
User variables for {userName} and change the TEMP and TMP vars values to "c:/temp or something like that...
This PC was brand new, and yet these errors surfaced from the beginning and I still can't fix it.
I have Windows 10 Home 10240 build upgraded from Windows 8.1 Core. I have a inconvenient problem, if i create a new folder on the desktop. Right-Click -> New -> Folder, seems that explorer.exe crashes. Everything disappears desktop icon, taskbar. After 1 or 2 seconds everything comes back to normal and folder is created.

I'm getting two similar error messages when I try to open both Outlook and Word....
(Outlook / Word) could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable.
Outlook is not opening at all, and Word will open at the second or third "OK" click on the error message.
I've spent the last 24 hours editing the registry, for both programs based on advice found online, but nothing has worked.
I'm using the Office 2013 versions of both programs (version 15 Outlook). How the registry should look for both programs, as this is preventing em from working (I'm self employed and use both programs all the time).
I saw that there's a workaround using IE, but it's not on my computer (only Edge). This keeps crashing when I try to open it, and I can't seem to get a download of IE, as Microsoft assume I have it already.
I tried a system restore several times but for some reason it won't work - I was even so desperate to fix it. I tried resetting the OS, but this also failed.
Add this to the problems of saving files in Word caused by Windows 10, and I have to say that for me, it wasn't a good choice to upgrade.

Prior to the Windows 10 install I had problems accessing the D drive drive so I booted from a Linux Mint disc in order to access my stuff on D, all went well and I created two folders with my stuff in them ready to access once I had upgraded to Windows 10.
Installed Windows 10 on C drive, all working great, I can see both HDD, I can see and access both drives, I can access one folder on the D drive and see all my files inside but i can't access the other folder on the D drive named "documents" Windows 10 says it's a system (.sys file) and asks for an app to open it.
Have I lost all my stuff in that folder ...
Can a file folder open it it's own window all by itself without any of the drive's other folder structure showing?
I have certain folders I must refer to frequently and I'd like to create a shortcut which would pop one open in a new window without having to wade through the whole drive's folder structure. This was normal on my last pc running XP but I can't seem to duplicate in Win10.
I just upgraded my Windows 8 OS to Windows 10 and it has left.Old.windows folder.with many included files on my Harddrive. I have already backed up and transferred all the files I wanted to keep from that old version and wish to delete that file and all that is in it. But it seems not to allow me to do that. I have tried numerous times with Admin privileges and it still will not allow be to delete.

"This file does not have a program associated . Please install a program or , if one is already installed , create an association in the Default Programs control panel "
The only way to open the folder is to use right mouse button click and choose open, very annoying to work like this. The only strange thing I see is that when I klick right mousebutton on top it seems windows wants to open my folder with "cmd"...

In File Explorer I right-click a folder and select Properties. In the Customise tab, under Choose a file to show on this folder icon, I select Choose file. I navigate to my Pictures folder and select an image and then click on Apply and OK. And nothing happens, the folder is unchanged and has no picture on it.
