This inability to pin a url to the desktop started 4 days ago. What I have done so far. Ran sfc/scannow 4 times, scanned with Norton Security and Malwarebytes and searched in vain on the web. I called Microsoft and they did a remote connection and Would not research the problem because it works in IE and would not persue the issue further in Firefox and Chrome.

View 1 RepliesI spend most of my time in Linux && am just recently becoming a regular user of windows 10. The Problem: I like OR would like to use the pinned shortcuts accessed on my taskbars folder icon by right-clicking. The pictures, music, videos, and recorded tv work as expected. The Downloads and Documents return a message, 'the item you selected is unavailable etcetera etcetera' I would like to use them. Here are some images to explain.
The only oddity if there is one is I run 2ssd's and 1hdd. One Arch Linux, one Windows 10, and a 4tb storage drive that contains the account folders for windows 10 (Documents, Videos, etc). All works well except shortcutting to open the Downloads && Documents folders from the taskbar the others respond as expected. If you can see in the above images the paths shown are correct mappings to targets.
I'd been using this method on Windows 7: Windows Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target And I take it that this is how it's done in 8: File Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target.Will the latter tutorial also work here in 10?
View 2 RepliesI have a site that was pointed to shopify, and then closed the store. Now when I try to load the new site, it always directs to the closed shopify site. If I do a dns reset using ipconfig /flushdns it will work for a while, but then always reverts back. So I have to reset many times per day.

View 8 RepliesI found that one can shorten the steps of shutting down windows by creating a shortcut on the desktop. by using this command "%windir%System32shutdown.exe /s /t 0" The shutdown exe file can be found in the directory above. I thought I may be able to create a similar shortcut but there is no 'reboot.exe' file in this directory so I assume it must have a different name. There are 4 files with the word 'boot' in it perhaps it is one of those.

Then rolling the wheel allowed selection of the desired active application, and a second click of the wheel selected that application.after upgrading to Windows 10, the "Task Switcher" shortcut no longer works. Also on eightforums.com, I discovered a method of creating this shortcut manually (i.e. referencing the appropriate GUID shell action ( Shortcut - Create in Windows 8)
However, this has stopped working in Windows 10.Is there any way to recover this functionality in Windows 10?Also, as an added bonus, is there any way to bring up Task View in the same way? Task view shows all virtual desktops and may be a more efficient way of navigating open programs than the Task Switcher.

View 2 RepliesWhen I create a shortcut to file in Program Files, the target path for that shortcut will be to Program Files (x86), even though the start in path will be correct. Furthermore, even though the target path is incorrect and no icon is displayed for the shortcut, the shortcut still works.Shortcuts to items placed in the Program Files folder by an installer do not have this problem. It is only for files that are manually placed in the Programs Files folder by me the user, i.e. copy and pasted there.

View 17 RepliesI have an issue i can easily fix when using windows 7 IE but this edge is another issue but anyways here it goes.
With windows 7 when i have an issue with a web page that a pop up locks me into that screen and I cannot close that web window I can easily open task manager and end that 1 window without closing any other open web sites i was currently on but I can't figure out how to do the same with windows 10 edge.
With windows 10 edge i have to reboot the pc because even when ending the microsoft edge process then re openeing edge all the opened web sites are still there including the one that prevents me from doing anything as i am unable to close any of the web windows unless i reboot
With win 8.1 all I had to do was right click the page and I was shown a small dialogue box asking me if I wanted to put the site on the desktop. Why did they change this?
View 1 RepliesWhen I go to one of those sites that tells you weather the site is up or down, it states its up, so the problem must be at my end. Ran virus scan. Did one of those ip / dns flush. All other sites work just fine. No other issues. Windows 10. Generally use Firefox, but I tried IE also, same result.

when open IE11 in win 10 Pro 32 bit ver.1511, it wont open all site but when i open IE11 run as admin... then works prefect. Chrome and mozilla works like a charm. I am creating prefect image from dreams for my company but IE11 is tough.

I have a maximus vi hero mobo and for the management interface driver the mobo's site has v11.0.0.1155 but windows already has it installed for v11.0.0.1157 Should I use the latest version that has auto installed or is the one on the asus website better for me? Is it more specific to my board since its from the mobo's site?
