View 1 RepliesI have just installed windows 10 and I am listed as the administrator. However, if I try to save a newly written document in a folder that I have always previously used for that purpose, I get a message which says:- You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?
I have also noticed that many folders in my C: drive have a small icon attached (a tiny box with a blue top and right facing arrow head). If I try to access any of these folders I am refused permission with the message "access denied". For example, if I try to enter a folder shown as C:/users/all users/documents I get this message. There are dozens of places where this 'blue arrowhead' occurs.
Impossible to get local printer to link to windows 10.

View 4 RepliesI am in the UK. I have changed the region, language, keyboard and system locale all to US English and it still flippin doesn't work. Says Cortana is not available for your market. What am I doing wrong? Am on latest build on Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet.
View 1 RepliesUSB flash drive works fine, printer works fine, just any mouse. The laptop is a Compaq C500. Tried updating driver in Device Manager but I get an error: windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The driver installation file for this driver is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the inf was written for windows 95 or later. I went to the Intel(R) N10/ICH7 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 27Ca and downloaded the most recent driver but when it tries to install it just says error encounter setup will cancel.
View 1 RepliesSo I had Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 10 now my mouse won't move . I can't click on any options I can only bring up task manager. One tech support guy told me I'd have to bring my computer in to reinstall Windows 8 because it doesn't show up as an option when I tried to reset it. But ive noticed a lot of people had this problem should I take It in or do any of you have something that works so I don't have to pay.
View 1 RepliesMy 2 USB 2.0 hubs on my case won't work, while the 3.0 works just fine. I've tried updating drivers, reinstalling them, and even uninstalling every USB driver and updating all of them. I finally went to:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryusbstor.inf_amd64_b9f7cf2be3ee13d5 a
And there are only 2 files in the folder: usbstor.inf and USBSTOR.SYS. I'm missing usbstor.pnf, could this be why my USB 2.0 ports won't work? If so, where can I get this file at? I can't find it anywhere.
So after I updated to windows 10, all my settings went back to default (custom resolution, monitor icc profiles etc). That was fine, I changed it all back but one thing I cant get fixed is the fact that my mic from my iphone headphones will not work as they did prior to this install). The problem is 100% with realtek audio manager and i cant seem to find the settings that would fix it. I know its realtek because after I uninstall realtek and restart, my default sound card goes to HD audio manager instead of realtek and then my mic works perfectly fine right after.
How I can get realtek to make my mic work? or to uninstall realtek as a whole? Every time I uninstall realtek, it automatically installs its way back to my computer.
Also, my webcam that is connected to a usb in the rear works perfectly fine, however, the quality of it isnt as good as my iphone headphones so i'd still like to get that fixed.
I don't use cortana, and I was expecting the search bar in start to function like Windows 7. I don't understand the point of the search bar, all it seems to be able to do is show apps and search the web. Even the list "all apps" in start seems to be a random selection of programs that are actually installed.
Steam has a shortcut on the desktop and takes up most of my HDD, but when i type "steam" into the search bar it couln't find anything. Why can't it search files/folders/programs?I know it's easy to use windows explorer, but it's frustrating having a nicely layed out search bar on the desktop that can't search properly.
cannot get the webcam to work. Device Manager does not show any problems, but I see that there is no imaging device for the webcam! It worked under Windows 8.1 fine.
View 1 Repliesmy start button wont work, i cannot restart my computer and even from the sign on screen the only option i ave it to shut down. my icons are still on the taskbar but i cannot view them and when i open my browsers its deleting my last sessions even when i have them saved to appear each time i open the browser. my time and date is gone as well as any viable option to get to my drivers and computer settings. the only thing ive been able to get to is the actio of using the windows button and pressing r but each seach i get an error message that anything i type cant be found.
View 3 RepliesJust did a clean install on 10 and was researching another problem that required the run box but mine doesn't seem to work.
I get a response that 'it didn't open in a timely manner'.
I have updated my laptop to windows 10 and since then the app wont work, I have also tried loading it on the internet and chrome but it still doesn't work. Every time I go on it works but when I press what I want to watch it loads and then comes up with the message "There is a problem with this system's configuration that prevents Windows from playing protected video. Please make sue you have the latest Windows Updates {which I think I do but don't know how to check} as well as Windows 8 certified video and audio drivers installed".
View 9 Repliesi keep some rdp windows open for work all day and at some point the keyboard just stops working on the remote desktops, only the mouse works, to get it working again i have to close the rdp session and reopen it many times, sometimes even this doesn't work, so i have to reboot my win 10 and then it normally works. I must say that in all my years of windows 7 i have never had a similar issue.
View 1 RepliesI've this weird issue with my Start bar, search bar and various Windows related things.
Start Menu - It won't appear at all, can't left click it.
Search Bar - Does nothing at all.
Shortcuts - They function and I can rearrange them but I cannot right click them.
Various windows related things are also being extremely slow or unresponsive, The task manager for example takes ages to appear. Navigating the control panel is fine but the Windows 10 settings area is odd, I can't create a new user(clicking it does nothing) and when I explore the "Start" part of personalization, checking any of the options takes about 30 seconds to register.
I have 4 laptops and 1 tablet eligible for Windows 10 upgrade and I upgraded them all.
On one system (Windows 10 Home, upgraded from a Windows 8.1 Home laptop I bought 6 months ago), Search in "Settings" never returned anything, I always got "No results for ...". For example, when I searched for "update", it showed:
On my other 4 systems, they correctly found some items:
At first I thought Windows 10 might have been building index for search, but 4 days after I upgraded to Windows 10 (and I use this computer everyday) it still does not work.
when i click on the start button, either right or left click, there is absolutelyno kind of response. i cannot get to the control panel, nor turn off the laptop, nor anything else. the stupid thing is only two months old
View 3 RepliesMy desktop has a MS account and my portable is a local account. I have set my desktop with a Homegroup PW and have chosen what I would like to share with my portable (following the forum's instructional video). However, I do not know how to proceed from here in order to get the two computers to communicate. Do I have to go to my portable and enter the PW, and if so, how is this done? If not, what do I have to do? Also, I would imagine that once things are set up right, in order to communicate, both computers would have to be on?
View 3 RepliesI have an HP Officejet 6700 All-In-One printer which is connected online, no USB. The unit has been printing and scanning up I until I upgraded to Windows 10. The printer still works but I can not scan. I tried doing the command prompt "SFC /scannow" but the system could not find any problems.

View 16 RepliesI can't seem to get Netflix or Hulu plus to work via the apps. I've gone through all the windows updates, tried to figure out the video players. Sometimes, when I play Netflix, it says system configuration error, and to check my windows update and my video player. I've done all of that. Sometimes, it plays sound, but there's no visual.
