I'm getting so frustrated trying to set up windows 10 for parental control, i've decided to delete the child account and start again.Ive decided to take this action, because, whatever I did, on the "settings/manage family settings online",the child account kept the adult in the family, but when i went to the adult, account "settings/manage family settings online", the child was gone.I also cannot seem to get rid of the child in the settings/ your family (Local settings) even though ive deleted the child account on my machine.
I recently upgraded a HP computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 pro using the Windows update/free Upgrade.
How can I change my childs admin account to a child account? The account is registered With a Microsoft account and I have added my Microsoft account as a second admin on the computer.
Now that there are no parental controls on local user accounts, I set up a Microsoft account for each of my children so that I can limit screen time and accessibility to websites. I am now trying to merge their old local accounts to the new Microsoft accounts. I can log in to their local accounts and I can log in to their new Microsoft accounts, however, I cannot sign in to the Microsoft account from their local account (I'm only assuming this is how to do it). I go to settings, accounts, Sign in with Microsoft Account instead, enter email and password, enter old password, click Next and get the message "Oops, something went wrong Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."
My goal is to save everything they have on their local accounts (Minecraft files especially) and get it over to the Microsoft account so that I take advantage of the parental controls. So, deleting profiles is not an option, but if there is a way to get everything moved over, then I can delete the local account, but how to move everything over.
I am running build 10158 on my Surface 3, and I have a few adult and child accounts. I noticed that when the children log into their accounts the start menu and action center do not open. I looked around and saw some articles about folks going into Family Safety to configure settings to allow "Windows Experience"...the problem is that Family Safety has been removed a few builds ago and everything point to the accountfamily website. I do not see any settings there to allow any apps or unblock anything. I would hate to not be able to monitor my kids accounts but for now I do not see any other options.
Does the time warning that used to appear on screen for a child's account - two minute remaining... - is still present in windows 10? It seems like when my kid gets to the end of his allotted time for the day the computer just goes blank without any warning - often in the middle of an 'all important' game. Am I missing something or is this feature gone?
I've been using Windows 10 for weeks. Until today, it started up just fine by displaying my name and no email address. This is exactly how I want it to be.
Today when Win 10 would not recognize a printer, in order to download an "app" to work with this, I was required to provide a Microsoft email account, which I did (an old Hotmail account I rarely use). Now when I restart or wake up the computer, that old Hotmail account appears as "Administrator". However, I do NOT want that old Hotmail email address associated with this computer.
How can I remove it and get back to logging in with NO associated email address?
NOTE: I do not want to delete the old Hotmail account; just want to remove it from my Windows 10 "Account" menu (My name + Hotmail address + "Administrator").
In case it's required to associate Win 10 with an email address, I use Windows Live Essentials with a company email address. I tried adding it via the "Other Account" option, but Win 10 said it did not recognize the email address I entered, sigh.
I signed in with a microsoft account in windows 10 because I wanted to try minecraft windows 10 edition. Now I want to remove it but I am unable to. To remove the account I go click the start menu, click my name, click change account settings, scroll down to accounts used by other apps, click my email, click remove, but nothing happens. I did switch to a local account. When I click remove, the settings window just disappears without anything happening. I also ran the SFC Command but it found nothing. In Mail I have two accounts. One is my personal MSN account and the other is a Exchange account with my former employer. Obviously the former employer has deactivated my account.
I want to remove the Exchange account. It currently is giving "attention required" I looked at the post to remove an account. When I go to settings under this mail account I only have two (links)options:
1 Fix account
2 Change settings
Neither of these are active. I do not have a option to delete the account.
I'm looking for a way to block internet connection of a child. So no more servers in minecraft, no more browsing the web, only the local stuff should be available.
This hasn't been confirmed yet bet many people that had child accounts on their PC that upgraded to 10061 have gotten locked out of all modern apps including the start menu, windows update and settings.
So far a clean install or rollback seems to be the only fix.
I would like to use some of the features that require you to log in with a Microsoft account rather than my own local administrator account. But when I did that, it totally changed my settings for my local account including desktop, etc. So I deleted the Microsoft account. how to keep my local account settings when signing in with a Microsoft account.
Using a LOCAL account I have no problem with Shares -- how do I set these now using an Ms account.
Samba just times out trying to access Windows machine where I'm logged on with an Ms account. Also I can't access other Windows machines from the Ms account. The other Windows machines can't access the Windows machine where I'm logged on with an Ms account.
All these problems DISAPPEAR when using a LOCAL account.
I think my future strategy will be just keep a MINIMAL Windows VM with an Ms account to GET the insider builds and then revert back to Local accounts.
I upgraded my windows 7 to windows 10 my dell insperion computer. the original conversion to windows 10 seemed to go OK for a few days. The about 2 days ago, I created a MS user account to access some of the MS store apps. Now the original Windows 7/10 user accounts - local accounts i guess - 3 of them - that we signed in with have been replaced with 1 account - I believe to be the Microsoft account (different name and password).
When we sign in with that MS account and get in to the computer, we have a pop up box that says "Critical Error - Start Menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try ti fix it the next time you sign in." We can't do anything but select the pop-up box option of "sign out now". When we sign in again, it is the same thing.
I'm not sure if this is 1 problem or 2 different ones.
1. How do I get back my initial local user accounts, so I can access all of my programs and files? 2. How do I fix the Critical error?
How can I create an admin account on a system that only has a standard user account? I suspect that the answer is that I can't, but I live in hope.
I can't provide specific details of the PC in question because it's my son's, and he lives 35+ miles away. He was running Win 8.1 but recently (in the past couple of days) upgraded to 10 and has run into a driver issue. He can't upgrade the driver because he doesn't have admin rights. I think he has an admin account on his system because I put it there, but it doesn't show up as a log-in option.
I've tried to enable the hidden admin account from a standard user acc on my system by running the command prompt as admin but am always to verify as admin - catch 22..
I have installed Windows 10 recently (previously Win7). I used to have two local accounts, both administrators. I have forgotten the password for one of the accounts.
Is it possible to reset the other account's password from the other account?
I had hoped Windows 10 corrected the "rename user account" function but nope. I renamed a User Account due to conflict on the LAN [same name, same spelling] and sure enough, now I have two names for the account, one a slightly hidden original name, and permissions issues. To rid it, I will create an all new Administrator account, move everything over, and demolish the old. How to do? the docs/files are easy... the settings for apps etc are not as I recall
I run my W10 computer using a local account. I want to avoid using a MS account and don't have one set up one the computer at this time. My local account is the only account.
That being said, I was interested in installing a couple of apps from the app store. However, it is requiring that I log in with my MS account to download and install them.
My question is if I log into the MS account to download and install the apps, will that create a new user account of any kind or otherwise mess with my computer settings or user accounts?
I upgraded my kids' computer to Windows 10. It had an administrator account (for me to set things) and two separate user accounts for my daughter and my son.
I made the *mistake* of logging into Chrome with my Gmail acct ID while on my Daughter's user account.
Now, it's no longer her account. It has a password (It never had a password before). And instead of her name, it's literally my gmail account name.
I need to take some time to clean out the user account settings, but she has her steam, minecraft and other settings on her account. I don't really want to trash it and make a new one.

I couldn't fit it all in the title. Basically what I'm trying to ask for is if there is a way to remove the folders from "This PC" so I'm just displaying my hard drives like before. I'd like to keep the folders under quick access, and I would like to keep the folders in general, but they simply do not belong right by the drives under "This PC". I like change, but this one, I do not like at all.

what I installed or accepted any firewall configuration but every time I try to get on the internet via the chrome it blocks and the notice of proxy, I disable the proxy that is active (127.0. 0.1: 8080) and then to use the chrome for a while, until the proxy returns to be activated. Already excludes via regedi also but nothing worked.
Additionally avast blocked and no longer opens and the windows security center is disabled and can not enable. The firewall also disables alone.
So I recently got an HP Stream 7. I removed office of course and it seemed to work. BUT I've updated it to Windows 10. And low and behold office 365 returns flashing a offer to try a 1month trial. And no matter what I do it will NOT go away from my start-screen. I clicked the uninstall and it seemed to be uninstalling, but now it's still there only the uninstall button is gone.
I tried unpinning, but all the tiles just go transparent and then it returns to normal after a few minutes, and the tile is STILL there.
Is this really how Microsoft wants to push their office software?
I'm pretty sure I'll be upgrading my desktop this week while I'm on vacation. I've done my laptop with no problems at all, it's a Dell Latitude E6400 with Win7 Pro bought refurbished from Newegg. The laptop was a mid 2008 model and W10 works great on it.
My question is about my desktop drives, my OS drive is an SSD and my backup drive is an HDD. There is nothing but the backups and system image on the HDD, it is an inside the box drive connected to the second SATA on the MB. Is there a chance the W10 upgrade will put it's boot loader/manager on the backup drive?
I have seen posts where for best results, all drives except the one being upgraded/clean installed on should be disconnected to avoid the boot loader/manager showing up on another drive. I can do this but it's sort of a PIA due to pulling the tower out, disconnecting cables, and opening it up. Then repeating after the upgrade to put things back.
My backup drive is an HDD with nothing on it other than backups which are done every Sunday night. There is no OS on the backup HDD.
Background is, I created another partition on my 120G SSD (30G) where I've been dual booting 7 and the W10 TP's, the plan is to delete that partition and recover the space for the W10 upgrade. Then have a single partition with W10 on my 120G SSD C drive and to continue to use the WD 500G for backup and system image. I will create another partition on the backup HDD for the W10 backups (right now I'm using a 100G partition on the HDD for Win7) and keep the Win7 backup and image until I'm fully on and comfortable with W10.
