Change Audio Playback Device And Change Active Window In Cmd?
Dec 2, 2015
Basically what the title says. I need to be able to:
1. Change the audio playback device to a specific device.
2. Change the active window.
Both need to be able to be done in cmd. How would I be able to do that?

Laptop Samsung NP300V5A. Sound stops working about a month after Win 10 upgrade. No changes done at the time.Audio devices show up under Device Manager, but not under Playback/Recording Devices. Same for Realtek Sound Manager - it doesn't see the devices. I can install, delete and update drivers under Device manager but it doesn't make any difference. It is not a physical problem, tested on Linux live CD.
Solutions tried:
-Installing various versions of HD Realtek Drivers (including windows update version)
-Installing/Removing Realtek software.
-Enabling/Disabling devices under Device Manager
-Called spirits of ancestors. Seemed like it worked for a while, but ended up being a joke.
-Did system restore to various dates.
-Restarted in safe mode
-Restarted various services such as Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Plug'n'Pray, Power, etc.
-Checked system, application and driver even logs.
-Tried a couple of registry fixes. Angered spirits of ancestors. Turning gray..
-Reinstalled chipset drivers
-Rebooted about 30 times
-Sound Device Troubleshooting finds no issues
-Display Disabled Devices is enabled

When I change the input language, it is changed for the whole system, i.e. all apps, Office, browsers, etc. In Windows 7 it used to change only for the specific app which is active on the display, i.e. the language for the rest remained the same. Is there a way for Windows 10 to behave like Windows 7 in this respect?

When I look to the properties of the stick I see as name 'TDK16GB' (that's the name I want). In explorer though I see the stick as 'Fix it portable (F: )'. Even if I change the name by right-clicking - change name, explorer always shows 'Fix it portable' as the name.

I want to change the title bar color from white, as I have a white desktop.
In win 7 personalization there was an option to change every part of a window individually.
This seems to have gone and the only choice left is for the high contrast options which are awful.

Just got Win 10 and if I have many windows open there is no distinction between which are active and which aren't. Before the active window would have a colored toolbar at the top while the inactive windows would be colorless or white. I've went into settings, personalization and color...turned the first one off and the other two on then selected yellow but still the active windows aren't getting the yellow across the top to show they are active.

I am using Windows 10. Am having problem with Active Windows changed to other window automatically. For eg. Lets say am using Microsoft Word and Micro Excel and I am working on Microsoft Word. Then suddenly application changes itself to excel.
I then have to press alt+tab or mouse to change application again. It's bloody annoying. Just writing this much small threat, 3 time active windows changed. So practically it is impossible to type long letters or any typing work.
Also am browsing and reading something and then windows changed automatically. it's bloody annoying.
Also if suppose there is only 1 active window, for eg word then it tried to change itself to desktop but since word is in full screen format, word kept open itself but become non-active. So suppose am typing anything then nothing will type and i have to retype everything again.

New Windows 10 user migrating (returning) from OSX.
So far only two issues found on 10130:
Orange active window border: I have this horrible orange colour around the active window. I have changed all the colour settings but both seems to change the active window border.. how to get rid of it. It is really obvious on Firefox for instance with a thicker part at the top tabs section and thinner elsewhere.
TaskBar locking: Occasionally the taskbar will lock and not autohide - even though there are no alerts. Need to sleep/retart to get the autohide to work again...

Ever since I updated to Windows 10, I've been having this issue. On computer start up with the TV on and set to the computer source, it works fine. As soon as we switch the TV source or turn the TV off we lose the audio when we go back to the computer source. The Philips TV I use as my monitor disappears from the available sound sources, and I have a red x in the volume setting on the task bar.
Rebooting the computer is the only way I've found to bring the sound back. This is the exact same computer and TV I used with no issues for over a year before upgrading to Windows 10.
I have installed the latest realtek audio driver listed on this site. I have used the ACER care centre to look for updates, but it says there are none. I've also tried switch out from the realtek to the standard windows driver, but nothing has solved the problem.
I have an ACER XC-605 media PC.

I'm using the Aerolite theme. I would like to have a distinct difference in colour between active and inactive windows (i.e. the window border and the window bar). In Windows 7 I was able to set the active window colour to blue and the inactive windows' colour to grey (similar to Windows Classic). Is there a way to do that in Windows 10? Simply having a darker and a lighter shade of the same colour won't be good enough -- I'd like to have two distinct colours.

I just bought an ssd. i installed it then windows didn't detect it so i format it and everything now its working. So I decided to go into the bios to make my win10 boot off of the ssd then the hard drive as a secondary then i save and exit and turn my pc off to test the boot. i get a message saying change the boot device and when i kept restarting it it kept popping up. so i had to unplug the sata data on my ssd. not since its connected, win10 will boot off of the hdd. then i notice after i unplug it and turn it on it wont even give me an opportunity to enter the bios windows automatically starts up; there is no logo of my mobo brand with controls on how to enter the bios under it. i still press the button that would let me enter but nothing happens but win10 starts up. so after that i plug in the ssd and now its not detected and it wont let me format it as if its not even installed in my system! NOW I CANT ENTER THE BIOS AND A USELESS BRAND NEW 250GB SSD...

I can chose what sound device to use in a game and can switch between them. Head set or five way surround sound - room speakers. But I don't seem to be able to get anyplace on a consistent basis in edge. Right now I can't get anything to play. First time I opened it played over my speakers. Some time later suddenly it would only play over my head set. The other day I had success opening Realtek audio manager. I actually got sound coming out of my speakers.
Now I cannot repeat it. I have never consciously changed anything to do with the setting for sound. In fact I can't find one in edge.
Opening up system I can find no way to set a default play back device... I'm lost. Some how I now have it playing out of my speakers again. But a gremlin did it.

Any video that I playback that is on one of my HD/SSD pauses but the audio continues, then after 10-15 seconds the video cuts to where audio is or fast forwards. Does not happen with short clips but with movies or tv episodes.

For whatever reason ever since I switched to windows 10. Opening my playback device literally takes 2-5 minutes to open. Even if it was just opened. If I go to re open it seconds later. It takes another 2-5 minutes. This is also running off of an SSD. When I was on windows 7 it opened instantly the second I clicked "Playback Devices" always. So why would windows 10 be any different? I use the playback device menu a lot since I switch between different audio devices constantly all the time.

i have my ASUS X555LD for almost a year now, so as far as date is concerned my laptop shouldn't be too old to suffer such illness. So it came with Win8.1 x64 of course and just recently, as soon as Windows 10 was released, i upgraded quickly.
but right after i upgraded to Windows 10, my laptop became ill and had this errors:
1. i got BSoD Most of the Time, one would say CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED or UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION. there are times my laptop would freeze in the BSoD, not even the 0% would move to 100%. so i had no other choice but to force shutdown it, and sometimes after turning my laptop on again i end up at my BIOS with no HDD nor BOOT ENTRY listed. as i experimented, i had to press slightly hard on the right side of my Laptop where my HDD is Located just for my Laptop to re-read my HDD once again, as soon as i got back to Windows 10, i ran an HDD Check and nothing was wrong, no bad sectors or anything. this is confusing me as to how it is happening. so i somehow got used to BSoD since my Laptop frequently experience it. sometimes just a simple movement that would shake my laptop would turn into BSoD again, i suspect something like my HDD or loose or the likes. i dont really know.
2. after the BSoD Case, a week or three i guess. i started to loose Audio Ability. it was just this morning, the Volume Icon has a "RED X" on its icon and states "No Audio Output Device is installed.". and after checking my Device Manager, to my surprise the Built-in Audio Device (Realtek) is not there. i don't know how or why it happened but i can't get it back.
even checking the sound tab on the control panel doesn't bring out Audio Devices.
i was wondering if ASUS or the PC Store where i bought my Laptop would fix it for me as per warranty is involved ?

Clicked on my built-in speakers.
Clicked on "Properties."
Clicked on "Disable."
However this removed my speakers entirely from the menu and I can no longer use them! How do I restore them?I went to my Device Manager and the drivers are still loaded.

My main system doubles as a HTPC right now. One monitor on desk and a long HDMI cable to a HDTV, the displays are set to duplicate (mirror) Thinking of adding a second monitor on my desk for dual display when working, probably in extend desktop mode. Does Windows have an easy mechanism to quickly choose which 2 displays are active?
I know Win Key + P allows me to quickly choose how to manage 2 displays. Is there a similar way to quickly choose which 2 of 3 displays are active?
FYI: GPU is a R9 270x

so before I wiped my entire PC the sound was working flawlessly - I would use the audio inputs for the Razer Blackwidow Chroma and it would work perfectly.Since the reset however, no sound has been discoverable, I get a red x on my speaker, and it says "No audio drivers installed" on "Playback Devices" I have tried putting my headphones in every audio jack on my PC (front, back and keyboard) and it still isn't picking my headphones up, I have installed the latest drivers and still no joy.

Since upgrading from Windows 7, I have not been able to find an easy way to switch between audio devices easily on Windows 10. What I'm trying to do is switch between my system speakers and headphones. The only way I can find to do this is to right-click the speakers icon in the taskbar, select playback devices, right-click either "speakers" or "headphones" and select "Set As Default Device."
From then on, all sounds are routed to that device. But I have to do this every time I want to switch between headphones and speakers. I think on Windows 7 there was a way to route all sounds through BOTH speakers AND headphones. I could then just use the physical device's switches to control where the sound comes from. I haven't found a way to do this on Windows 10.
